[Q] 1.8.3 - Atrix 4G General

Is the hsupa update available from AT&T or motorola for non beta testers yet?
I don't want the sdk, only the official news.

I got the update from the motorola software updater software. Some people can't even seem to get it from there, I messed up root 3 times and updated from. 53 to. 83 three times.

It's rolling out, which is to say AT&T is not sending the update out to every Atrix owner at once. That would load up servers pretty heavily and you wouldn't want your update to end up stalling because everyone was trying to update at once. It'll get to all of us in time, I think I got the last update about three days after they started rolling that one out.
Be patient, Grasshopper.

The updates go by your phones IMEI number.
Also, they are still rolling out to testers, so I don't know why some non-testers are getting the update. There is nothing in the beta forums about this update rolling out live already.

Funny, I got the 57 update 6 hours before it was officially released and I am was not on beta list, so this wait is killing me. I am a child

Stuck on DI18

Hey all. I am curious, are you guys all getting Froyo by doing a manual update??? I am trying the UPDATE FIRMWARE option (currently on DI18) and getting a message that I am on the latest version.
If you search the forums a bit you will find your answer.

Milkman, I'm in the same boat - been searching forums, seems like folks who want OTA will have to wait.

dude above is hinting for the manual update of the OTA released update. I am on 18 also waiting for OTA. If I didn't have hw id go for it. I just dont have time if i brick my phone in the process.
Thanks Big. I wish the other reply was more helpful, like maybe a link or something. I love how people tell you to search when you already did...
I may just do the update using clockwork, but was hoping to do OTA.
I will holdout a little longer to see if it magically appears on OTA.
The comment was referring to the fact that this has been extensively covered already in the forum. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861213 has the instructions on how to apply the OTA update to a stock Epic.
The official OTA hasn't been released by Sprint/Samsung yet, DK28 is just the most likely final release.
The instructions above will show you how to update, I updated my wife's stock Epic last night with no issues.
thank you elite, as a new android user this isn't really apparent, even from the bulk of that thread - that this isn't an official OTA sprint release.
There are folks that are reporting they got froyo from an OTA update, which counters your information. I wonder how true or untrue that is.
If sprint hasnt released the official froyo then why are users getting it OTA. I call bs on your statement.
yep, I second that call mbkowns.
The OTA was being pushed to specific test phones, with the Hardware version D700.0.4
No one has determined how those got in the wild, almost everyone has version .5
The update was only pushed to the .4 phones, again this is all in the dev section.
if that is the case, then how do folks know that its the 'official' froyo release? I can see that the dl link is from an authoritative source, but its not telling.
i.e. if its not available to all subscribers then its not a release, right?
It is not the official release, just a possible release candidate that was sent to the .4 phones only.
Basically, a guy last night noticed that Di18 updated to DK28 and posted it here. after several hundred posts, we all realized that it was only for .4 phones. Those are supposedly developmental phones that got released with the mainstream .5 phones. How? We do not know.
But since it was an OTA for those phones, a ton of folks have assumed that it was the final official release.
Either way, I ODINed my old DG27, got gps fix in Maps, then ODINed the latest. It's not a bad process, just touchy, and since then I've enjoyed the best Froyo ROM yet.
I hope this helps.

It is not the official release from sprint to the general public, it is a release candidate that they will let devs test for a few days. If devs report no issues they will start the official OTA release.
Sent from my Epic using XDA App.
thats great info, I fear however that due to the reportings of xda and engadget, etc.. that most folks will or have interpreted this event as an official sprint release of froyo. I am in no particular hurry for froyo on my epic but as this news has panned out it has caught my and others attention in an apparent dubious way - surely due the reportings and not in any way of the xda members.
if this is true, this is an important point that folks should be aware of *before* doing their own joyous upgrade - meaning that if sprint didn't bless this code they shouldn't expect it to be the final real thing.

Has anyone in EU received the 3.1 update yet?

Just wondering if anyone has got the update yet? I checked mine this morning and it said up to date.
Source from official Xoom Forum :
The 3.1 update for the Motorola XOOM™ outside the U.S. has started. Owners in Japan started receiving the update today (June 21). Owners in other regions can expect updates to start over the next several weeks until the roll out is complete.
Motorola has responded to the widely-expressed desire to have the SD card activated on Motorola XOOM. The 3.1 update for non-U.S. devices, in addition to many other improvements, also includes an SD card activation solution. Release notes for this update will be made available in each region. Please note that functionality varies by region.

The standard Android update release time schedule
several weeks could equal anything from a few days to a few months.

It could end up being that (few months)...proper English would indicate that several or a few weeks would be more than two weeks but less than 5 weeks. Two weeks would be a "couple of weeks" and "three to four would be several or a few" more than 5weeks would be more than a month (if more than 4 weeks were planned then they should use months or an actual number of weeks as a qualifier).
P.S. this was written with humor (writing work scopes today) in mind. We all know that they have a hard number in mind and a date to start roll out, but are being cagey for business reasons.
The information is somewhat misleading, I saw they were rolling out but not that it was only in Japan so far until later. Not sure why they bothered posting on the Moto Europe FB account when in fact the EU rollout hasn't started. It's pretty crap that none of these companies deploying Android updates can manage to do it at a faster pace!
I am quite sure that the rollout has not started yet and that Motorola is just trying to calm down their customers.
Why do i believe that?
I was among the first to buy the german version of the Motorola Xoom (offered by T-Mobile) and i am checking for updates on a daily basis.
Up to now the message is always the same: Your system is up to date (should be better named: There is no update for you, as the system is definitely not up to date).
Besides that there is no updated image that can be downloaded offline and applied to the device via adb.
When the Motorola Milestone received its update, at the same time the announcement has been made, the offline image update was available for download.
So go and figure yourself .....
Kind regards,
BrowsingMan
Just got my Xoom today, be nice to use it to its full capacity..

Lollipop update thread!

Hey! Just wondering, but has anyone recieved the 5.0 update yet?
Yes, i'm kinda anxious.
I'm looking forward to lollipop on the shield but I may not allow it to install when it's first released.
There are a few of my commonly used apps that either crash on start or have problems in lollipop (on the nexus 7), so I have a feeling that there are a significant number of apps that still need updating.
My shield runs so flawlessly right now that I'd really hate to mess it up.

All the sites reporting that it has started to roll out are wrong, they're all reporting this on the basis of one screenshot from one user a couple of days ago. We'd be seeing more reports here if the roll out was really underway. Hopefully we should start seeing those reports very soon.

No update yet in the UK on LTE version
No update here in The Netherlands (Lte) yet.
Is it worth pre-optimising apps to use the ART runtime (via developer options), while awaiting the update?
I'm told by my colleague who has a Nexus 4, that received the lollipop update, that it took about 50 minutes to apply the update. But he hadn't set his runtime to ART, I have.
I'm waiting to see which of my devices gets lollipop first out of my Nvidia Shield Tablet and my Nexus 4.
Still nothing
Nothing in Poland.... LTE version.
Does anyone think that we'll get double tap to wake with the update? Here's hoping that it's not an N9 kernel feature ??
No Lollipop here in the U.S. yet. Hopefully, it'll hit soon! Definitely getting exciting for this update.
No Lollipop in France yet
I've been compulsively checking for OS updates and not gotten one yet

ATT XT1097 lollipop discussion.

figured i would start a thread for this since theres a verizon one.
Get mine tomorrow
Seems like the wait for lollipop will be longer than I thought. Hopefully we get a good build!

Overall my AT&T Moto X works very well minus a few small bugs. I'd rather wait a few more weeks to get a very stable and solid 5.0 update than be first in line and have some bugs to deal with for the next 2-3 months while I have to wait for another update to resolve them. I am looking forward though to 5.0 and being able to then root my phone.
Maybe they're just going in numerical order. Lol xt1096, 1097..maybe someone's just extremely ocd at Motorola
Patiently waiting impatiently.

Yeah, I check for updates every couple days.
I think the above poster was correct when they said they're going in order. AT&T should roll this out before Thanksgiving.
wheres att ???? =/ just waiting
fingers crossed for an update tomorrow.
yea no update yet for me. verizon got it, no idea what the hold up is for att there slacking
Anyone got any updates on this or heard anything
Not even so much as a soak test yet, looks like it will be a while
Sent from my XT1097 using Tapatalk
Disappointed with att. At least a soak test for those who like to try beta versions.
Maybe its not ATT fault.
Here in Brazil we also have the XT1097, both as a carrier branded (with the usual bloatware) and with a contract/bloatware free version bought directly from the Motorola Brazilian Store. None of the XT1097 versions have seen a soak test, not even the Motorola version.
I have the xt1097 from TELUS carrier in Canada with absolutely no bloat or carrier branding. Still no news. I hope that they at least update all the xt1097s at once.
ATT and Verizon firmwares are in the same level of modification, i guess. So, if Verizon is already pushing Lollipop, why att is not? I can only think that the problem is with att.
I bought my moto directly from motorola and they sendt a XT1097 (i'm in México) so i'm still waiting, I don't care about the soak, i just want the real thing.
i'm in a hurry to root it, but i want my OTA first.
Guys, do you really prefer those buggy builds? Think about it: Those builds that leaked before (. 5 and. 6) are full of bugs... just check the lollipop bugs thread. Yeah I am extremely anxious about it too but we have to keep in mind that this is android's biggest update to date, I don't think it would be great to get just some build first instead of getting something that actually delivers a great experience.
Verizon already have .11 and less bugs. As i said, a soak test program is for those who want to test, even with bugs.
But never mind, we just need to wait patiently, its our only choise.

Monthly Security Updates

Hey all I have a purely stock unrooted nexus 6p that I am trying to figure out why I am getting the monthly update a week before the release of the next update ever time. I am thinking its ATT blocking the updates. Can you please post the carrier, date and time when you received the May update please?
VZW and mine showed update on the 13th. Was starting to wonder when I'd see it, but it finally hit.
Still waiting here on Sprint for the update. This is taking forever.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers mobile app
I have Project Fi and get my updates rather late too. It's not just you.
If you really want the update, then by all means flash it manually as soon as it comes out.
I don't think that the carrier can actually block the update, unless you somehow bought the 6P carrier-branded, and through the carrier. That being said, I've been on Tmo, Fi, VZW, and Straight Talk, and I have never actually received a monthly security update as soon as they are released. Usually I had to wait a couple of days. I think those updates roll out randomly, so I'd say just keep waiting, or flash it yourself.
Nexus updates are known to be pushed out in stages.
If you are desperate just flash the images via fastboot or sideload the ota via adb.
Yes I know I can side load the update. That is not the point of this post. Its to get an idea of timing of when people are getting the updates and what carriers they are on.
Google releases there updates in a phased approach. They first release it to 1% all the way up to 100%. 100% should be getting the update within 2 - 3 weeks. The 2 -3 week period I have yet to see!
What I was trying to determine is if this is the carriers blocking the updates till a specific time or its google just not pushing updates to the phones like they say they are.
Note ATT is notorious for blocking updates. And yes they can block the update as long as your using there network to check.
If Google is releasing security updates on a monthly bases and you don't get it before the next update is released, whats the use in a monthly update???

How do you side load. I just saw that google has released images to do that. I too have a 6p completely stock. I want to keep the bootloader locked. I have never had a nexus device before. So this is new to me I always used Samsung. The problem with Samsung is you have to mod the hell out of it. this phone just works like it is supposed to. but I do want to try to update manually. So I followed the instructions in the general section and I am installing the sdk as we speak. So what is the process for side loading and where do I get the update? My phone gets its updates really late in the month and I hate waiting. Also I booted this phone into recovery and tried to do a factory reset but it didn't do it and there were all these options I am not used to. How do I do a basic factory reset from recovery? I would like to know just in case. I am not wanting to go crazy with this phone but I do want to understand it so when I get the nexus 7 I can play with this one when I get spare time.
