Hi!
Last night, I wrote a list of the in my opinion top Android 3D games: Raging Thunder 2, Armageddon Squadron, SpeedX and Homerun Battle 3D. I also included a bunch of other games that I think are worthy representatives of 3D gaming on Android at the moment.
Are there any more games that I should now of? As you may know, Gameloft has released a whole bunch of Android 3D games. They got some backlash for not making them available in the Market, and for their DRM policy. But soon purchased games can be redownloaded from their own online store. Has anyone tried any of them and if so, how do they perform on the HTC Desire? I think a couple of them look very promising indeed
Cheers
you can add to the list RealFootball, Let's Golf, asphalt 5 (i can't believe that you've missed this ), iron sight, hero of sparta. wonderful 3D games.
Do you know if there is 3D chess? on windows mobile i had one, it was so nice!!!
Asphalt 5 could be an amazing game but the code is really awfull resulting in a lot of framedrops when more then 2 cars are on screen
i'm agree with you @pina_
Check out Crusade of Destiny, very nice RPG (although the save games doesn't work for me )
I bought Dungeon Hunter from the Gameloft website, and I love it!
Awesome Diablo-like hack'n'slay!
The 3D graphics could be better, but theyre OK, and there are some cool combat and magic effects.
I hope they will make more games available in the Android Market. That would be a much better solution than their company website, which is not really great to use... and you would be sure to get your refund if the game just sucks, like Asphalt 5 (horrible performance).
any other racing game that I should check out? I really like Raging Thunder 2, fast paced, excellent
Game loft games
Gameloft also realsed 10 3D android games:
http://www.gameloft.co.uk/download-games/android/
All the games look pretty good and you can only get it from there website.
has anyone tried them?
A few of those 10 games have been mentioned in this thread. Apparently some work well and others not so well. Be careful as Gameloft seems a little dodgy to deal with at times (not through personal experience, only things I have read).

Thanks
Can't wait to try it out..
H.A.W.X for android is great too, smooth on desire, a few freezes but I got all the missions completed - Good fun (and time waste for my exams lol)
yep. both of them are really nice
@ady_uaic
how long are you here on xda? U should already know that its forbiden to post warez.
It's ok the gameloft drm stopped you using it anyway
All you get is error this game is not original...
No it does work, you just need the game data which is about 90mb lol

No you cannot. That game (As well as NOVA and Gangstarr) ONLY work on the Moto Droid and no other Android phone.

Em, yes it is.
That's called sharing something that you don't own. You don't own the game, you own a single user licence to play the game and nothing more.
When I was buying the HD 2 I wondered about great games on it because of hw( snapdragon, 448 MB RAM etc.) but the game support and offer is very poor. I was searching the gameloft main site and i´m very angry, that there isnt any game like Iphone or Android as well. Why dont they develope also some good game with Open GL support?
Does exist any programm, which allows to install for example .apk games on my HD2??
I´ve recently read about developping "Android emulator" for HD 2, but I am not able to find some informations ´bout that.
THX for any answer.
there are some very good 3d games like nfs, experiment 13 and xtrakt
its a long way off but : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651632

Because Windows Mobile 6.5 is a pretty much dead operating system now. It's being phased out, and companys are making little to no programes for it anymore.
Ok 2 questions.
1) Is there any way to save and load state of game on Tiger Mame?
It's a dam awesome emulator, but quite useless as a mobile game emulator without save states !
2) Are there any decent Android MAME emulators that enable to play arcade games other than cps1/2/neo geo?
I want to play arcade versions of outrun/double dragon/golden axe. Stuff like that.
Thank in advance for replies.
Honestly, I think it's really funny that he's calling his app "Tiger MAME" because I don't think his app is actually MAME whatsoever. Judging from the specific games that are supported and those which are not, it matches up almost perfectly with the Final Burn series of emulators.
1) Nope.
2) Nope, not until we get an actual REAL port of MAME.
Agreed about the name, but I think he renamed to TigerArcade (MAME), so people would relate more to what it plays. It really should have been called TigerRaine or TigerFinalBurn, since those are the rom sets it works best with.
MAME rom sets are moving targets to work, due to platform updates of the MAME app.
This app is better for just emulating what it does, since that is why it plays EVERY rom full speed with sound, even on the Incredible. Far less overhead than MAME, since only supporting a few platforms.
There are/were a few that played some, but not all of MAME4All rom sets (played about half). Jironi Arcade is the name and is still in market, but has issues with Gingerbread (the dev knows and is working on it).
It doesn't matter how many ROMs a build of MAME supports, it doesn't speed things up any by removing them.
want to play more roms on my xperia play like splatterhouse , Ghost n Goblins and Bionic Commnd and More Games
yes please can some devs make a mame port that would be brilliant
just think of all those games that mame supports
damn i would need a 64gb card lol
Get to work then.
If TigerArcade had save states it would be a great emu.
Surely not too hard to do from the Dev considering he has done it in all his other emus?
I agree about the save states thing...the only other problems I've noticed is that some Capcom games have sound issues (Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Strider). The music is total static with those.
We really need a proper port of MAME to Android.
Just curious. Since open source emulators exist for MAME, is it an easy matter (for someone in the know) to just compile the code for the Android platform? I only know a bit of programming, but I'd be willing to learn how to port to get a Mame emulator on my android device. But since there is none currently for Android, I'm assuming it's not too easy a task.

There is no Java version of MAME, so you'd have to port it to Java before you can think about porting it to Android.

Didn't even realize most Android programs were written in Java. There was this project called Jape, but it's unfinished and looks abandoned since 2006. The source is available though, with a paper titled, "How to port MAME from C to Java".
Lol. I took a few peeks at the code. This may take a while...
I guess there's also the NDK, which would allow you to avoid porting to Java, I believe.. but I know very little about it.

you can often found ports very close to the original in compilations for gameboy advance or PS1 which you can play with Gameboid or FPSe.
For example, for GBA, you have Out Run in Sega Arcade Gallery compilation, Double Dragon in Double Dragon Advance, Golden Axe in Sega Smash Pack.
Ghosts'n Goblin is found in Capcom Generations Vol.2 for the PS1.
I got a DOS port of mame working through aDOSbox, but not to a point where it's playable. The games launch, albeit incredibly slow. Controls are a ***** too. Details and pics on my blog, though there's not much to see. Still, it's the currently the only way to get MAME on the Android I've found.
Hey its jwhood again,it wont let me download that link in your blog for the dosmame says your not aloud can u fix it really appreciated bro, great work, its a start : )

Few performance games on Android are written in Java.
Big studios use a C/C++codebase hooked in via the NDK.
Smaller studios tend to use C# or Javacript with the brillant game engine Unity3D
Yeah, I mentioned the NDK already.
JRioni's emulators don't support the plays controls and if you manage to get any response from the guy, you should play the lottery that day. Haven't had much luck with tigermame on a number of devices a while back, and was extra frustrated by the way it searches for roms instead of letting you select a rom directory. Not everyone is a douchebag who throws roms on the root of their SD card. Anyway, since people seem to be having luck with it, maybe its been updated and resolved some of these issues.
How can i play PS1 Games?
do i need to root?

7 minutes and no response is too long? Yeesh.
Anyways like above. Buy FPSE off of market and supply your own ripped PSX/PS1 CDs (you'll likely need the SubChannel data when you rip it, because copy-protect stuff is there, also, include bad sectors).
Mind you, you need to legally own a copy of the game (I still have my Valkyrie Profile discs and a few others lying around, love those games). FPSE is made through community efforts from original PSX/PS1 emulation code, plus a TON of fricking changes and updates and fixes to make it work on ARM and/or specific CPUs and GPUs on different android platforms. The amount of work they are doing on that thing is a huge undertaking.
Alternatively you can buy stuff from Sony Computer Entertainment off the Android Market. I think they have a few games on the Android Market to buy. Crash Bandicoot, Syphon Filter, WipeOut (good futuristic racing game with great soundtrack, btw), and some others. These all use the native, Sony-Made PlayStation emulation.
Thirdly, there is currently dev work being done to reverse engineer the packages in order to be able to utilize the native Sony-Made emulator to run other self-ripped games. They are 80% of the way there and have it fully disassembled and understand it, but are having problems fitting it all back together with custom stuff. Check the dev section for progress threads.
If you are looking for a way to do it free and possibly get free stuff... not the place here.

I wish you could buy those games off the Market.
WipeOut, Destruction Derby, Syphon Filter and a few others are available but only outside the US...
One day SCEA will give us some PSX love off the market. I'd be more than willing to buy these games a third time... Until then, we have Yifanlu.
Could anyone list them please?
Just get the emulators from the ouya store. They all work great. N64 might have some minor issues on some roms but it's constantly improving. FPSe for PSone is the only one I didn't test yet.
PS emu is fine. SNES plays flawless. N64 plays better then on my MK808. Also started playing some GBA ROMs and work flawlessly too.

Currently using n64oid. Substantially better than the mupen64, at least for the moment
I'm going to try various ones over the weekend so I can let you know what I think are good.
Hope this helps

I loaded sarges hero's 2 on fpse and it would forceclose after the intro video so i switched it to experimental opengl in video settings and it ran albeit super choppy. I didn't check the rom on the emulator compatibility list though so i suspect that's the problem. Mupen runs surprisingly well and of course GBA and snes both have very smooth playback
Downloaded GenPlusDroid but it is kicking me out.
Probably need to try another version.

How'd you set up your controller with N64oid? It doesn't want to recognize my right analog stick when I try to map it to the C buttons, and recognizes the left analog stick as the same thing as the D-pad.

not a whole lot, but seems like it's running just as good as on my S3. The good news is they have said an official port is in the work.
Fpse
Mupen64+
Snes9x Ex+
Gba.emu
Md.emu
Nes.emu
Uae4all2-sdl
All the Roberto Broglia ones are great.
Fpse is really good and I believe epsxe is also good so for PS1 we are spoiled.
Uae4all2-sdl is for the Amiga - Hard to set up but once its configured its awesome.

Those using fpse. Are you buying the app again after buying it from Google play ? When I side loaded the current Google play version it crashes when I start a game. On the Ouya it actually said Ouya edition after it's installed, so I'm not sure if the apks are actually different?
As a side note the Ouya version from their store appears to play okay, but I'm constantly berated with the buy now spam.

All apk's on the OUYA store are exclusive to the OUYA, they are different APK's, so yes if you want to run fpse on both your phone and the OUYA, you have to buy it twice (or get the sideloaded one to work).
Complete b.s. this I see will be the down fall of ouya. Why do I need to repurchase the same app?

You have to understand the OUYA runs its own store with games optimized for the OUYA, hence making sideloading almost necessary if you want run non-OUYA apps.

Why would you expect to be able to use two different system's apps together? Saying you should, by default, be able to tranfer all your purchases from your Google based Phone to the OUYA based console is like saying you have 2 windows based computers, buy 1 copy of a program with a single use licence and think you should be "entitled" to use it on both.
Or even better, buying 2 Xbox's for 2 different rooms and expect to be able to get all your content without any work on both.
In both of these scenarios, you can and many people do, but it is technically against their terms of service. WIth Xbox its more like Android in that you can transfer your username, but what about the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One? NONE of your content transfers and there will be no way to get it! At least on the OUYA there are workarounds, much like with 2 PC's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Google play apps said it was okay to be used by the same individual on an unlimited number of devices. Hence why you can use the same app on your tablet and phone. Where as with Windows the license specially says only on one device at a time. I think this why why people would be upset about buying android apps again.
Let's be honest. When have you ever looked at an android based item and thought you would have to re buy the apps?
Personally, I'm going to just wait until there's a finished cm or other ROM and use that.

To the average user like myself. When I think of open "ANDROID" game console. I think of google android with all its standard google associated services rooted and unlocked. I think of ouya having their proprietary app store of course, but also including google services. That's why google allows you to login with your email and download the purchased game on multiple "ANDROID" devices.
Believe me Spock. When I tell you your logic is most sound. But I, like most people would love to be able to have access to already purchased "ANDROID" apps. Especially the apps that can use the ouya controller. For example an android minipc. Which I should have purchased instead of this. I only bought it for xbmc, which works great! So I don't feel as ripped off.
Again,
I know the business model, but as a consumer, I will not pay 15 bucks for final fantasy on several "ANDROID" devices.
Oh, and to stay on topic. I love the emulation on the ouya. Especially nds4"DROID". Great ds emulator.

Sideload RetroArch and you will never need another emu again
If you will need the BIOS from some systems... well, google is your friend
