Administrator accounts - Acer Iconia A500

Anyone know how to set this up I will be letting my girlfriend and kids use my tab so I need to be able to login an out of my accounts to keep mainly my girlfriend out of my accounts like Facebook email thanks for any help

You could try an app called Invisible Protector. You can use it to lock your apps, but instead of the app showing up as locked it will show up w/ a FC error, and you can then use several different ways to access the locked app. And the only place the Protector app shows up is in the Widgets list. They also have one (Invisible Protector II) that doesn't show up at all. You have to dial a command to get to the settings.
For example I have mine setup so that when the error pops up it gives me an option to send an error report and in the next field I just enter my password and the app loads.

But there is administrator under settings but I can't get it setup
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

That administrator option under settings I believe is to enable administrator features to certain apps - for instance allow a find my phone app to enable the GPS without going through the warning dialog, or enable a wipe app to remotely wipe the entire device's memory without confirmations if you lose it.

Ok thanks that's to bad I would love to have a guest account

Thee is a developer asking for testers for just what you are asking for look in the bottom forum section for apps and themes
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478321
I think this is the thread
Use this with a app lock program.

That being said, there is no 'non-hackish' way to do that. While the kernel supports true multiuser, the rest of the OS doesn't. The Admin stuff in the settings is for locked-down devices integrated into corporate networks (i. e. you're only allowed to use apps approved by your boss and installed by your admin and your device gets wiped if you try to get around it... though it can be made less strict)

I also use an app to lock thing down. Only I know of
Sent from my AT100 using Tapatalk

The lockdown works via certain apps that install security hooks in your device -- basically giving them the ability to remote-wipe the device or do other funny stuff without your consent. The only app I know of that acually uses this is Junos Pulse, used to access Juniper SSL VPN networks (mostly in corporate or university settings), though I guess some of the 'remote admin' capabilities of antivirus tools use the same mechanisms.
The bottom line: Your app may actually use the mechanisms I described in my earlier post. If you want to check, see settings -> location & security -> device administrators.

I noticed this post on the Gtablet site. It looks to do what you are asking for. Read down the the last post on page 1. I have not tried it yet so cant verify whether it works or not.

Select device administrators???

I am curios what this is? Under location and security there is a tab called select device administrators. When I click on it it shows email and a box for me to check. What does this do? This is only on 2.2 thanks.
Im wondering the same thing...help?

I have seen this on my wife's phone running CM6.1. She has her work e-mail going to the phone, but part of their requirements to allow employees have the mail on their phone is that their IT dept has to be a phone admin so they can wipe sensitive data remotely in case the is lost or stolen.
Yeah I read some other threads about it when I googles it but I didn't understand what they were saying. The only thing I got was it adds security to the app thru wave secure. Don't know if I'm completely right. I checked the email app that was under it and activated it but I didn't notice anything.

SOLUTION: Facebook account internal server error

SOLUTION FOUND: LOOK AT MY 2ND POST, or 3rd POST IN THE THREAD.
Hi All,
New to the forum, apologies ahead of time for any n00bness. I am trying to connect my Facebook account (not using the android for Facebook app found in the marketplace) through the motorblur "add account" short cut, but I receive an error that states "An internal server error has occurred."
Thanks ahead of time.
I am also having this exact same issue.
Solution found
Hey, just going to respond here because I found a solution.
It looks as if i was really anal retentive about what applications facebook talked to and disallowed the use of any applications to interact with facebook. This lead to the the "Internal server error" when trying to add the facebook account to motoblur. This can be fixed using the following:
Account-> Privacy Settings-> Apps & Websites -> Edit Settings-> Turn on platform apps
This should allow you to connect to facebook. It worked for me.
Thank you! Worked perfectly.
not working seems like an issue with https which is now mandatory for using facebook! :-/

Android Password Vulnerability

So I was bored today and started digging around and happen to find something that is particularly disturbing IMO. Most settings for apps and system are stored in databases of course. Not going to name which particular files contain this but the passwords for pretty much all my accounts and various things are stored in plain text. With that said one could easily create script to drop on someone phone and pull all of their user names and passwords. This is a huge security flaw that could expose everyone's account information easily. Does anyone know if there is way we can get this information encrypted?

1) If you're out and about set a password
2) With the password set, turn off usb debuging
I'm confused. Please elaborate

Bravo: i think what he's trying to say is that if someone somehow made an app that also for some strange reason had access to that file... anyone installing that app would basically be voluntarily handing out their account details.
Wouldnt this be more of a MotoBlur issue? Since MotoBlur is the one that handles all that Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Picasa, Photobucket, Email Accounts. I mean it is build into the phones custom UI.
Ok I must confirmed that also aosp email app does the same thing. I froze blur email and loaded gingerbread email and out shows the login info for my gmail and work exchange account

well to be honest you need root to get this files, and yes use sqlite in market version and you can see ALL apps and password , you can even edit it so maybe i will worry when you can have access to this without root. this isnt new, even you can check wpa_suplicant and check wifi password if you dont remember

Would like to know this too. In the meantime search for an xposed mod. Notification mod. This one allows you to use the notification pulldown.
Helps a lot.

Did you try new Google KitKat email app? Make sure that you install both Email and Exchange 2 email apk.

the easy answer is to use enhanced email, can be found in Google Play. I am using that myself

I think the OP like me wants to bypass the security set by the rules, not the app itself.

Best most money on an app spent!.... NOT...DOESN'T WORK IN MY CASE...
And you know 15 minutes are not enough to even try it due to the options and testing and hoping. Bought it long ago. In my case it didn't work...
Company has its own app. And another 2 apps checking if the app is admin etc.
Only thing that could be done is either to input the pass automatically when I unlock the phone. Maybe something via xposed. And add a second screen unlock option.
Somewhat like the iPhone jailbreak has it...loved the security bypass plus android pattern unlock....

Can someone try this? Saw it in company forums. But might be completely unrelated https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.chunky.AutoKeystore&hl=en
I use touchdown so the policy is applied to the app and not the device.

It depends obviously then on how the exchange server is configured. In my case e-email bypasses the security demands from the exchange server completely. When I had my HTC sensation, I used a mod you can find in the HTC sensation development, search for exchange - there is also something about using it with other phones.
see this post for files/kudos: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47063058&postcount=406
however, you don't need to push via ADB or anything:
1) uninstall your current email and exchange apks (via titanium backup or something similar)
2) either wipe dalvik cache or delete the associated email and exchange odex files in /data/dalvik-cache
3) install the 2 APKs (i usually install exchange first, then email)
4) setup your email
been working perfectly for me for the past week.
EDIT: this is the new 4.4 email/exchange, btw, with the gmail-style interface. it's fantastic.
I would really like to find a way to dodge the lockscreen and other policies that are enforced by Exchange. I don't want to use the KK email.
I use an app called Keystore Unlocker from the play store...must be rooted. You can skip the step adding a VPN and it will still work.

Can you explain the process? I've got the app and have it set up but I'm not entirely sure that I understand what it's doing...
The policies are still in place.

If you are just trying to get past the pin/password requirement this app stores it so you don't have to enter it when unlocking your phone. Not sure if it works for PIN security but it works for PASSWORD security.
Follow these steps:
1. Open app and click on Credentials store password (enter your lockscreen password)
2. Click Try to unlock
3. Check Auto Unlock
4. Click VPN w/o password for >=4.0
5. On the next screen click on # 3. Press Here (to remove phone lock)
That should do it and remove the lockscreen password that exchange forces you to use.

Have you tried simply increasing the lock timer to, say, 30 min?
I find I don't often have to enter the PIN with it set high like this.

I still want it to lock. I just want to use the pattern instead of the pin and that's not possible with the Exchange policy.

real quick- you do realize that the kitkat email that i posted is in fact modded to dodge those policies, yes? that was why i posted it. install them, set up your account - it will still tell you "your account needs some extra settings" blah, but it won't actually enforce them.
if you're talking about wanting to use the LG email app, well, i don't believe anyone has made a mod for that. i find the new kitkat email app superior anyways, so if you're willing to try it, that is a solution.

You technically shouldn't need to in order to set it up, but it's not a bad idea to make a nandroid. And it'll make the dalvik wipe/odex removal easier. That part may not even be necessary, but I had some issues the first time installing it where Exchange Services started force closing repeatedly.

[Q] Help a dead guy's family

I was recently asked from a coworker to see if I could retrieve any and all media off of an LG G2 that belongs to a family member of his that has recently passed away. I've got some considerable experience with getting what i want out of all my previous android phones so I was confident it wouldn't be an issue. What i wasn't aware of is the fact that the LG G2 does not have a removable storage slot. Being said I'm entirely stumped given the lockout situation. The phone's currently locked by gmail account sign in from them trying to guess the lockcode incorrectly too many times. Now I do already know how to stock reset the phone, and as nice as that is it doesn't help me get these pictures off the phone before a complete wipe. Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks in advance.
Well... you could try to enter download mode, flash the same firmware again over the current one, not CSE flash, not doing any resets etc..
It might remove the login..might..
If it's only gmail acc..you should still be able to connect it to pc and browser photos etc.
I've tried to connect to pc, unfortunately the phone wasn't set to mtp mode and I'm unable to change that. Therefore I can't browse the files.

Is it rooted?
I have no way to tell if it's rooted, but if I had to guess I'd say no it was an elderly persons phone. Odds are someone that age doesn't tamper with such things
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
Power it off
hold volume up and connect to pc.
It should display download mode and rooted or unrooted.
Also get more info about adb pull
Depending on the age of the person, interests etc you can predict if he rooted it or installed recovery.
Not rooted, and I have no way to enable usb debugging to use adb.
Can you please take a picture of the current situation ?
Are you sure it's the gmail pass it's asking ?
oh..I see..you typed 5-6 times the wrong pin, then it asks the gmail pass.
Get to the persons firefox or other browser and let it show all passwords.
Upon boot phone is locked requesting Gmail info. No action is possible until that is provided.

Do they access gmail on a home pc? If so, see if you can request a new password be sent to the account in question using the forgot my pwd option.
Also, I know it says it's locked, but what happens if you call the device or send it a text? Can you answer the call? Sometimes, after the call ends, it will land on the home screen.

That would be difficult considering he stole a phone and now is trying to break into it. I don't think the original owner is going to give him that info.
If I stole it I'd just wipe it and sell it. I'm concerned with reclaiming the pictures on it for the family. Not everyone is a scumbag with no job.

We here do believe you. But regarding google policies his family may provide some evidence or try to recover the password with google help, online of course. Everything else would be considered hacking. Hm..what does lg official software say?
I've already perused the policy for acquiring ownership of a deceased persons Google account. Unfortunately it stays that after a couple months time and even with supreme court approval they don't guarantee anything. They need to establish some law that makes this easier for relatives. I have not looked for any lg policies I didn't think it would apply being locked via Google account.
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
Ok. Here is what I'm gonna do for you. I will flash stock kdz, with password protect, will enter wrong pass until it asks me for gmail acc. Then I'm gonna flash the very same firmware without wipe in order to see if it removes the lock. 99% it wont remove it but 1% it will.
Much appreciated, must be nice to have extra devices to experiment with.
