[Q] Reverting back from 1.8.3 to 1.5.7 : possible? - Atrix 4G General

I remember I read somewhere in the forum that it is not possible to revert back from 1.8.3 to any lower firmware. Can anyone who has updated already to 1.8.3 and tried to revert back, confirm this?

I'm stuck on Bell. If you don't mind me asking, what's wrong with the new update for AT&T?...

Yes it is possible. I soft bricked my 1.83 modifying it and successfully flashed back to 1.26 via RSD.

Which file did you use to update to 1.83? there are two files out there. One is an update.zip only about 30 MB and another is a sbf file around 1.5 GB.

Is there something wrong with the update itself, or is it that you can't modify it?...

You need to use the SBF to restore back to stock. Can't restore back to 1.5.7, but you can to 1.2.6

HELP!! stuck after sbf

I've used rsd lite several times before and have not had any problems. I just recently ran it on my phone but i accidentally used the old .sbf file instead of the one for the updated firmware. I tried using the new .sbf file afterwords and its stuck and wont boot. what do i do?!?! please help
what is says on my screen is:
Bootloader
30.04
err:A5,70,70,00,1f
mew_map blank
service req'd
battery ok
ok to program
transfer mode:
usb
Which "old" sbf did you use and which "new" sbf did you use? Also what system version were you on prior to using either of the sbf files?
i was on the latest official ota update from verizon and ran the VRZ_MB810_2.3.15_1FF_01.sbf which is the old .sbf and the i ran the SHADO_X6_2.3.34_SYSTEM-ONLY.sbf which is what i thought to be the latest one
System only will do you no good at this point. You need to flash the FULL 2.3.32 sbf and yes it will work with the OTA.

[HOW TO] Get back to stock Bell rom!

These are the steps i took to get back to the Stock bell rom. I take no credit for this method, NFHimself made the scripts, and mods for deodexing.
This takes an hour at least.. Make sure your battery is FULLY charged, Do a backup first as well to save your sd card contents.. You have to do a factory reset after the process is complete.
1)reinstall a fresh sbf of the french 2.1.1 and login to motoblur. French sbf can be found in this thread, Close to the bottom of the page.
2) enable usb debugging.. menu, settings, applications, development, then check usb debugging
3) go to NFHimselfs deodex/mod thread here
4)download Version 9, and extract it to your computer
5)Run the menu.bat file
6) choose the root option. and follow the instructions. If it doesn't complete successfully, unroot and try again. Took me a couple times to get my phone rooted properly.
7) once root is complete, choose restore phone. This will automatically download the files needed to get you back to the stock rom. It will take a little bit of time to download, so have a drink or smoke or something.
The restore will take an hour or so to complete. Be patient.
I got to the point where it said waiting for phone to shutdown, so i pulled the battery and did it manually. Once my phone booted back up again, it was on the stock bell rom.
Thanks to all who helped me! Y2whisper and kieller from the support.motorola forums.
Don't forget to thank NFHimself.
NOTE: I had to do a factory reset to get the Market app back.
I managed to get the bell update with no problems!
right on I was wondering how I would get back to the stock Bell.....I'm running the French 2.1.1, so when the time comes I can sit back for an hour or so and bring the phone back to stock...........yaaaahoooo......
nate_benji were you on the french 2.1.1 before you did this?? cause I'm on 2.1.1 and I am rooted, just wondering if I have to do all over... flashing 2.1.1 again and root??? but I guess it can't hurt with a fresh install......guess I'm getting lazy in my old age...lol

Yes, i was on the french 2.1.1. The only reason i did a fresh install of the french 2.1.1 sbf is because the rooting method is a little different than using gingerbreak. I tried with a normal root, but it didn't work. NFHimself's mod/deodex application has the root option built in. That's what I used, and it worked well.

If I get bored between now and an international release or leak of GB then perhaps I'll give this a shot too. Thanks for sharing it, guys! Great work as always.

The benefit is you get the bell updates, who knows when the other carriers will release the gingerbread updates. Mind you bell is slow at releasing anything..

Thanks nate, then when the time comes that's exactly what I shall do......
The biggest benefit of this would probably be that when you do this it would be really hard to tell if you ever modded the phone. Also Bell is likely to get the Gingerbread update before people in Europe.

I don't think so. i did it from a fresh flash of 2.1.1 and it worked fine. you just have to make sure you rooted using his scripts. that was a problem i was having using his app before i used these scripts.

I updated the original post, with a link to another thread that has a list of all known atrix sbf's. The french one is close to the bottom of the list.
Is this the one you are referring to...
Branding: Retail France
Version: 2.1.1 Full
Android Version: 2.2.2
Bootloader Version: N/A
Webtop version: N/A
Requires RSD Lite 5.0.0
Requires Moto Android (De)packer 1.3 to edit.
As you opening post says french 2.2.1 and I cannot find that on the page you linked to.

Hi,
I removed partition 3 from the backup, it's your Motorola pds partition, it's not necessary to get back to stock, there are no sbf files that overwrite it. I also updated the atrix mods app to not reference partition 3.
Cheers!

MS2 reboot only in Bootloader!

Hello,
I have a big problem. I misplaced my MS2 with a customrom Droid 2 installed. after which the phone is stuck at Moto logo, I wanted to flash it with RSD Lite again. But unfortunately it has made all the worse. The screen then remained always black. By accident I found out that the master is always handy in the bootloader if I make the battery clean. the RSD Lite detects it again and then when I want to flash an SBF file he does it without problems. only then if he should make a reboot it ends up back in the bootloader. but i can´t see the bootloader. I know not what to do yet.
can anyone help me?
thank you
greeting
I didn't get quite right the situation but tell me which sbf are you using?
Is it the same android version that was before?
Have you tried pulling off the battery, waited 10 seconds, hold vol + and vol - (or X and arrow up, depending on android version) and powering up to enter the recovery and do a full data wipe? Does it starts normally after that?
Yes, it is the same as before sbf. I've been on it before GB and GB have also flashed.
at the first flash of sbf I'm also in the recovery menu and have a full wipe made but which has unfortunately not have shown anything.
I thought that maybe Customrom a different bootloader has been on it so I downloaded the 70.13 bootloader and flashed.
Since then I have the problem that it only comes into the bootloader, and here again but I have only a black screen.
greeting
sir my advice is redownload your SBF.. maybe it got corrupted. and make sure you choose the right SBF.

Original .sbf

Hi,today I have flashed original Motorola .sbf ,I downloaded it from here. It is 3.4.2_179-002, Retail Central Europe version. Now,after flashing it with RSD Lite the phone does not boot. There is no even Motorola logo at the start, nothing, its dead. How can I start the phone with this original .sbf? I want to have original froyo on the phone, and I know how to get back to CM10 but im not interesting in that now.
Thanks.

markos807, did the SBF flashing process complete successfully and did u get the message "Please manually reboot phone" in RDSLite window?
Did u verify the MD5sum of the downloaded SBF against the MD5sum given in the download page to check if the downloaded SBF file is not corrupted?
Are u still able to go to the Bootloader by pressing VOL UP+POWER button when the phone is switched off?
Only if u provide the above information, I can suggest what can be done next.
1.I dont remember what was the message, but I think it wasnt "Please manually reboot phone",but it was done, some other message saying its done
2.How to do that?
3.I cannot go into bootloader and when I connect a phone via usb to the PC the RSD Lite recognizes it so I can flash some other verified sbf.
Thanks for trying

Might I suggest, pull your Defy battery, replace it, do not attempt to get into bootloader, Leave it off. Just plug it in with usb after booting up RSD lite and see if connects on it's own. Sounds like a bad flash. I've connected that way numerous times.

1. Even I dont remember the exact message But I remember that it asks us to reboot the phone manually.
2. If the SBF which u are using is corrupted while downloading, it may lead to bad flash. U can google and download and use any of the md5sum checking tools. I use winmd5 application(I'm using Windows in my laptop), which is easy to use and it has UI unlike some other md5sum tools which have to be run through command line.
3. If RSD Lite recognizes ur phone, then try flashing the SBF once again. But ensure that the SBF is not corrupted as mentioned in point 2. If ur SBF is corrupted, try downloading it again. There are chances for a file to get corrupted while downloading. That is the reason why md5sum is mentioned in the download page to verify the file after download.
Winmd5 app says "Matched!". That means it is good?
Yes, if the MD5sum matches it means that the SBF file is not corrupted. U try flashing the same SBF again and see if it works.
@ markos807: Were u able to flash SBF successfully? I would like to know if ur defy is working fine now
Gingerbread (BL7) back to Froyo?
Did you already flash a Defy+ ROM with Gingerbread?
From a BL7 ROM there is no way back to Froyo. BL7 doesn't support that.
When I wanted to go back to froyo, I was flashing this sbf: JDGC_U6_2.13.0 China Unicom Thread/Download !!!BL6 kernel !!!
And that broke my flashlight! And because of that I want to go back to other official froyo sbf to see will the flashlight work. Do you know any other fix for the flashlight? Anything please?
Also, I am flashing same sbf second time now, will post the results.
Edit: Cannot boot the phone with any .sbf downloaded from here. The only .sbf that I can flash and boot the phone is JDGC_U6_2.13.0 China Unicom and that one broke my flashlight.

Mate, as you flashed BL6 sbf then you are stuck with BL6 and no way back to froyo other than chinese one.
Your flashlight could be burnt out - in such a case only moto service can help
What do you mean you cannot boot with any sbf from walter79 thread? Have you tried all of them? (You shouldn't). Or only froyo ones?
If you tried only froyos, then you can flash gingerbread BL6 to check your flashlight
And have you tried wiping data and cache from stock recovery? Is it accessible with power + volume down?
No, I cannot acess stock recovery. I have tried only froyo ones. Can you give me the link for that BL6 GB, I`ll flash it tomorrow because I really want to fix my flashlight.

Try any from a range 4.5.1-134_DFP-125 up to DFP-161. Higher are usually BL7, lower are BL5, so no use to flash

Your camera will not work with GB ROMS. It's normal. but it was you who flashed BL6 ROM on your green defy
