[Q]Custom Recovery? - Acer Iconia A500

So having never been an early adopter I'm not usually part of this process. What needs to be done to get a custom recovery for the A500?

I'm already trying to set one up. Don't know yet when it will be done.
Regards,
Tim

Anything I can do to help? Would rather experiment within the first 30 days of buying my A500 so I can swap it in store if it's bricked.

Easy way to flash roms

Not sure if everyone else knows but there is a easy way to load a rom on the vibrant.
In rom manager:
1. Select install rom from sd
2. Select your rom from the list
3. Select wype
4. And press ok
I've don't it and it works! No more going into CWM.

Not really.
Rom Manager has issues still, CWM doesn't.
CWM has more features and its safe, because the phone's UI and everything is off.
CWM is the most used, because well, its on every rooted phone.
I prefer using CWM because its safer with more options
Not tryin to be an ass but fear676 you have 4 threads in the front page right now.. Is that really necessary?

I see it like the difference between flashing a BIOS update from the command prompt compared to doing it within windows. While the windows version is usually safe, the odds of things getting messed up is greater.
Just figured out how to use the app. Plus don't we have to have 10 posts to start commenting on otherwise threads in here? Correct me if im wrong!

Android Anonymous XDA Discussion Thread

This thread is for discussing all themes, mods and rom's made by Android Anonymous.
Our rom was not locked due to safety issues. It is perfectly fine to.flash.
I never accepted donations... I don't do it for money... and it is a pain to find and put all of that together with no issues manually if someone didn't put it in a 'rom'. There are alot if other rom development that do the same thing. I didn't bring any 'wonders' to the epic. People like the people you listed. I didn't know the kernel was part of a payed rom and neither did b-reezy. Someone else (unnamed) sent us a link to the rom without informing us it was donate ware. On a side fact, requiring money of a firmware based on a free os by Samsung and Google without proper permission would be illigal and since it is just a modified Samsung kernel without permissions to require money for the rom that contains it, it is technically free. But it wasnt do to anything about being donate-ware, it was due to with it cantaining a part of bonsai. Stop spamming the thread with this crap. I won't switch to a different kernel until ext4 is made by someone other than bonsai... Hopefully that clarifies it all.

You would assume wrong. I refer you to the lmgtfy link; pretty much the first post has confirmation that even though the apk is there, it won't do anything, and nor has copying it over from another device worked. Asus has disabled it for whatever reason.

That seems more likely, but until somebody tries it, we don't know if Asus disabled it for a good reason.
Maybe it's relevant to the issue, but I have a Nexus S on stock ICS, and the Face Unlock feature isn't available as well.
Maybe it's only available to the Galaxy Nexus as of right now.
I have it on my Galaxy Nexus and it is kind of fun to show off but not that great unless you are always sitting in a well lit area. Not worried about it at all.

Because the tools involved are dangerous and cause permanent damage to the emmc, the method isn't especially difficult, but the tools are just to dangerous to let loose.
So a guide can be done up, but without the tools available to everyone its kind of pointless lol

[Q] Typically how long for root to be developed?

Just updated to 4.4.2 from a rooted 4.2.2 and lost root when I accepted the OTA update.
Being new to android I am wondering how long it typically take for a new root to be released?
I moved to android from iPhone because I was tired of waiting months for a jailbreak every time an updated ios was released.
Depends on how difficult lg made the firmware to root

Sorry, no not you. It was meant for gunnyman.
Being a newbie I'm just wondering typically how long it takes to get a working root after an update. I don't expect anyone to be able to tell me the exact date when a root program will be available for the G2 on kit Kat.

There's honestly no way of telling how long. Seriously... it can be a few days or even months. It all depends how long it takes to figure out.
Your best bet is to check the xda LG G2 forum for your specific carrier. Check it daily and someone will post about the progress. But don't post on the forum yourself.

There IS no typical it's not like there's a timer or anything. The HTC One X on At&T went 6 MONTHS without Root.
Root will happen when it happens or maybe not at all.
Kingoapp wrote me back, this is what they said:
As to 4.4 firmware, the known root methods are all via flashing custom recovery, which requires a lot manual operations and involves huge risks. So, I am sorry, it is not supported.
So it looks like a no go there....

You should not be commenting if you don't understand the process and efforts needed to figure it out, you can throw all the ROM cooks at it you want, will still take however long it will take to figure out, so sit down, chill the F out and wait, or learn Android ROM cooking and do it yourself, you aren't going to rush those that are doing this on their own time for free
