I don't have one but maybe you can let me help you grab accurate informations from your devices, that we will share here on this thread with everyone.
Also, exploring a device is always a fun process, so.. lets do that

the audio on sgs 2 is not at all but i still prefer sgs. they both have a bit different sound signature. i felt mids and highs better on sgs.i have only tested these on a daft punk flac so its my first impression.
THIS IS MY PERSONAL opinion.

yeah its crappy. its the worst phone ever made.
but on a serious note the font does not look look as smooth as i thought it would. may be i expected too much of this device. what i am really pleased with device is that it does not have the blueish ting that we saw on first sgs. the audio on sgs2 is much better compared to the sgs stock. the FM in sgs2 has bass unlike the original sgs. yesterday evening i did notice a slight 'Hiss' sound when i was using few apps to connect to web but i tried to recreate the 'Hiss' sound again today but i couldn't(no hiss). the sgs 2 is has very good audio but its just i prefer sound signature from voodoo(you may prefer sgs2 its all down to individual ).
again its my FIRST impression
*bump*
I'd really like to know what the SGS2's audio specs are. The measured specs of the stock setup and the theoretical ones, i. e. those on the chip's datasheet, would both be very interesting.

The chip in there is this one, with a standard ALSA driver:
Code:
<6>[ 1.117629] ALSA device list:
<6>[ 1.117642] #0: C1-YMU823 (mc1n2)
I didn't find datasheet for it. It's probably a new design specifically done for Samsung.
Still interested by help for audio measurements though!

Hi all,
As I just said its been released in Spain and I was wandering if I should get it over the desire hd its in same price range so money ain't a problem but people seem to have major issues with the galaxy .
4" screen is more than enough for me but I saw the samoled in action and is amazing the camera I hear its good too, so what should I do?
I have a really hard time recommending the Galaxy S. I could really use a working gps and a cached map navigation. The lag is really frustrating as well but as you can see with the xda app it's still usable and games run smoothly. So to answer your question: it depends what you plan to do with the phone.
Also don't forget that the desires already have 2.2 and don't put your hopes up that samsung fixes current issues.

GPS accuracy improvements are on the way, and for map caching on sd card you can use this:

To OP: No phone is perfect.
If you don't want to flash or root your phone, you would have to wait until 2.2 comes to fix the majority of the various bugs / improvements needed. Samsung is apparently working on it 24/7, hopefully we'll get a release by the end of October.
Compared to the Desire HD, the immediate difference is the screen quality.
Cached maps navigation sure seems like heaven especially with compas integration, im directionally challenged so it could help me a lot, the 2.2 out of the box and first probable phone to get 3.0 is definetly a plus...
I really like the screen and video format integration it always pissed me off that i have to convert videos to watch on my phone. and I use my phone to listen to music how is the SGS in that regard?
What is youre experience with the phone (i know sammy isnt the best manefacturer but whats the problem beside the gps?)

Nope, I've had a Hero and the sound quality is much better. The original earphones that come with the SGS are bull****, from this comes the bad sound quality. If you have or buy good earphones the sound quality is great.

Interesting... the earbuds that came with mine are actually pretty good. Not as good as my £40 Sennheiser earbuds, but very close! Good bass response, uncoloured midrange. The trebble is a little harsh sometimes at max volume but that's to be expected.
Makes me wonder if perhaps mine weren't manufactured by Samsung.
If you don't care flashing, then the Galaxy S is ok.
I think the Desire HD will be better out of the box though.
I don't mind flashing...if its a resonable amount.
I can buy either just have a hard time deciding which one.

You should try them out!
The HD is quite heavy compared to the Galaxy (I held it briefly) but feels much more robust. That being said, I have the Galaxy S since August and nothing has happened to it yet.
I have used the normal desire (non HD) and it seems to be much snappier than the galaxy s. That of course doesn't mean that the HD will be as snappy. The Sense GUI seems to be better than touchwiz.
With JM6 and the voodoo lagfix, the Galaxy is doing ok. I am really happy with it.
If I were you I would wait a little bit to see what's going to happen with Froyo and hear first real impressions about the HD.
wasnt froyo realeased for the SGS? at least unofficialy?

this is the best phone available on the market right now!
if you can wait, then wait for better stuff comming out on 2011
if you need a new phone now get the Galaxy S
strong, good for protection out of the box, see the videos on the wiki
great reception
GPS works good contrary to what you have read here in the forum, it just depends on the firmware
the Camera is amazing, Video recording as well
Audio is the finest quality on both the 3.5 and via Bluetooth 3.0
if you have a car with BT stereo support, you'll love it!
the LAGs that you read about is not real, it all comes down to maintaining your phone with the autorun killers and task managers to optimize the phone.
WiFi N is very fast, i get up to 87 Mbps on it, not as fast as PC but fast enough to transfer large files, without using the USB
SAMOLED screen is amazing.
Well don't mind installing the lagfixes and if I keep waiting for a better phone il never have one T-T but I do want a tegra2

DesireHD delayed in spain should i just get the sgs?
Hey,
I'm from the Netherlands, and bought my Galaxy S 2 weeks ago. I knew full well that the Desire HD was coming, but chose for the Galaxy S anyway...
I couldn't be happier with my choice, this is why:
-The Galaxy S screen is superior. No match, S-Amoled rocks.
-Xvid support is lovely.
-There already is a lot of documentation and a big user base for the Galaxy S (and stuff like Galaxy S specific apps), which gives you a community to fall back on.
-The Galaxy S has a pretty good battery (1500 mAh), in contrary to the DesireHD (1200 mAh).
-The Galaxy S is available NOW (there's always something on the horizon).
-Bluetooth 3.0
-The best processor in smartphone world.
-A LOT more memory; up to 48gb (16 internal and 32 microsd).
-It is light.
-There's a front facing camera for video calls and such.
In all honesty, the Desire HD has some pros too:
-The screen, although it sucks in comparison, is pretty big.
-The build quality seems to be pretty good.
-HTC support, probably until android 3.0.
-It has more RAM.
-8MP camera with flash.
-Maybe device design and HTC Sense, depends on taste. I like the Galaxy S and Touchwiz just fine, personally.
To me, the Galaxy S was better on paper and I am very satisfied with the experience it is giving me up to now.
It does need some tweaks, but the good news is all of those tweaks are available due to the huge user base (>1 mil!). It has lag, use a lagfix. It doesn't properly manage RAM, use AutoKiller Memory. Etc.
Fact is that, if the DesireHD runs into these issues, you won't have a fix ready right away simply because the user base will need to grow and the device hasn't been tested by over a million people for half a year. With the Galaxy S, you know what you will be getting, and you know it's awesome.
So, there you go; get the Galaxy S.
Greets,
MM
Really? Awesome havent noticed the front camera xD
Well the main pull the desireHd has over me is that htc phones are better supported (xda etc..) And kinda like the new sense(The site, cached map nav are really awesome )I dont like the battery, i dont care how much more optimised the proccesor is at 1200mAh with its huge screen its gonna die quickly.
4 inch screen is plenty of space.
everybody says the camera is awesome

I guess samsung galaxy S2 is coming soon !!!
Well in theory its a good swap, in terms of hardware the Galaxy S is lightly better than the X10i, the GPU in the Galaxy S is unmatched but the camera is a lot better in the X10i cos soon it will have HD recording with Continuous Autofocus which is brill, plus that beautiful screen is to die for in the Galaxy S, X10i beats the Galaxy S in terms of design, cos Galaxy S jus Looks like an iPhone wannabe, im stickin to my X10i even though i got offered a HTC Desire HD. Once it gets the 2.1 Update il be fully happy.

if you don't mind to get GPS issues and lag within the core chip of the galaxy S go for it, the Amoled display is brighter and the photo camera is better, also there is no flashlight on the samsung
also, the amoled consumes more battery displaying the white color, keep that in mind.

no that is not the case. She is not aware of the power of android and wants to sell it along with her blackberry to buy an Iphone 4. An ignorant decision according to me and probably many of you, but for the common phone user who dont quite know how to use android it looks appealing. Therefore she accepted a swap because she is selling it either way.

My Samsung Captivate is my first android phone and I've never handled an x10, so I can't make a direct comparison. But I'm very pleased with it and I doubt you would be disappointed. It is ridiculously simple to mod. I had mine rooted & Froyo'd the same day I got it. The xda SGS forums are *very* active, so if you are interested in trying different hacks/ROMs, the SGS is a good choice

My phone was slow getting a sat lock (sometimes >20 secs) while it had Eclair, but now it consistently gets a lock within 5 seconds. Lag is noticeable only when there are multiple apps still running in background. This is easily remedied by killing unneeded apps. If you think it's still laggy, you can install One Click Lag Fix (OCLF) and lag disappears automagically
Yes, the screen consumes juice to show colors & white, but it uses *no* battery to show black. That is also why the contrast is awesome (black is black, not dark grey)
My phone's camera isn't the best and there's no LED flash, but it's good enough for quick shots of everyday stuff
Dropped from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
No.
The only thing I like about the Galaxy S is the screen, it really is better than the X10's. That's about it though -- I wouldn't be wanting to hold that - as someone already mentioned - horribly tacky looking phone. It's embarassing. Samsung's TouchWiz UI is comical. Seemingly they targeted the 8-12 year old crowd and by the looks of it, they've succeeded. The X10's UI is FAR more profesional looking.
The X10's build quality and looks are to die for, I wouldn't even dream about swapping it for anything else. I've also demonstrated the X10 to many inquisitive people, definitely much more than when I had the iPhone previously. Currently it can be modded to a decent level as you can see from the Homescreen screenshots thread -- and with 2.1 coming, I'm confident it'll address few other shortcomings the X10 initially had when it launched. Personally I don't care about 16 million colors, it doesn't seem to hinder my media experience one bit.
Ultimately, it's your choice -- all the best

According to anandtech there are two different camera sensors being used just like other manufacturers and it makes sense that some are experiencing the color issue and there are two different firmware updates

I agree with your assumption.
On another note, the review didn't conclude with the audio being "crap", but that it had it's flaws. I have read the original thread by supercurio concerning the audio, and I understand (and hear) that the yamaha chip is an underachiever, but it's still the best sounding smartphone i have owned. Unfortunatly it's not as high end as we'd like it to be (and i understand coming from the original SGS it has to be quite the disappointment) but it doesn't suck either. Samsung has probably learned from this (i hope) and the next SGS iterations has this sorted.
I just hope i don't break this one as fast as I did my HD2. Touch wood.
A little disappointed by the audio in that review. Sad to see that they couldn't even match the iPhone 4 (which I came from). That being said, I am not listening to the device on $100+ headphones ($50-70 range) and it sounds good for what I need it. I got my better quality audio gear on my PC.
Awesome review.

I definitely do not have the yellow tint issue, never have. As for the colour banding/gradients, I have had this on HTC Desire and Xperia X10, so do not see this as an issue.
I think the sound is fine on this phone. It enables me to listen to music on the bus to work with good quality (through poweramp), and sounds better than any ipod i've ever used, but then I guess thats personal opinion.

Sound quality?
As an iPhone and Westone UM3x i'm having a hard time avoiding the purchase of a Note fearing that it could sound as bad as the Galaxy S2 (RF & CPU noise bleeding and sky high output impedance) thus if somebody with multidriver iems and discernimg ear could chime in it would help me an awful lot since the screen of the Note is so damn tempting that the iPhone looks like a cheap toy when i see them side by side at the store.

Commented on another audio discussion thread already (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323764 - after page 7 approx, since the 1st few pages were just speculation and drivel), but I'm fairly happy with the Note, Neutron MP and a pair of Earsonics SM3's (v1). No RF/CPU noise with the Note at all. Not as detailed/rounded vs Galaxy Tab with Voodoo and Neutron MP, but overall quite good imo. As someone mentioned in the other Note audio discussion thread, audio output is tight and clean.

Yes that certainly needs work. On that test image I made the shades below 4 just cut off completely, no ramp. This causes black blotches in shadow detail in video. I don't know what the hell Samsung was thinking there, so dumb.
Also there needs to be an RGB slider color adjust tool. As we know some screens are greenish, some reddish etc. The screen needs to be calibrated. I know I would bump down the green on mine a few notches to get accurate grayscales.

Knowing that no RF/CPU noise bleeds is a great relief.
What i still fear though is that the output impedance is as high as it is in the Galaxy S II. You can try to offset the tonal skew by eqing but i hate equalizers or any DSP. I run all my audio hardware flat. If it's good it will stand but i'm not so sure that the Note will stand. I tried on store a couple of Samsung preloaded tunes with my UM3x and i noticed the sound was not as full and detailed as it's on my iPhone. But to assess the sound quality loss i'm afraid i'd need to buy one and try out a couple of good sounding albums (Steely Dan, Wilco or Sheryl Crow stuff).
Anyway i guess that i could always carry around my 7G 240 Gb modded iPod (and whenever i feel the need to visit audio nirvana amp it with the awesome ibasso T3).
But i'd end up carrying around two devices instead of just an iPhone.
It seems that i must choose whether to please my ears (iPhone) or my eyes (Note).
after just 2days of careful inspection, Note is marginally better than S2 in terms of SQ... not to brag but i have serious gears and ears to backup my findings...
(you can view my profile on head-fi and mobile-review)
About iPhone; its very sterile and flat; analytic per se... i prefer the more fun sound sig of the Note or N8...
and about SUPERCURIO jumping on our ship; its a breath... i wonder whats on his mind, but i prefer it to further improve the SQ... i love his screen tuning app on my S2 but i spoil more my ears than my eyes...
Sorry I am new to all this custom ROM stuff but who is this Superserio guy? Did he make some legendary rom/mod or something?
Hi guys,
I was a (very) happy Galaxy S2 user and wanted to do the bump with the S4. I've got it with a very expensive price plan from Vodafone (yeah, blame me on that) and now I'm having a hard lifetime concerning payments and all that nasty stuff nobody wants to know about. I'm just explaining this to add for the disappointment I'm having with this new phone.
First it was the poor audio quality (yeah, I do really think S2 sounded better even if it had a poorer DAC), then it was the greyish LCD look of the screen (AMOLED, right?), the purple smearing & the slow response of pixel drawing... So, Today I've received the MEA OTA update and the phone got worse: faster battery draining, 1s camera lag, Adapt Sound (ace utility if you ask me) stopped working and never came back, some UI mistakes... issues well long and discussed in here.
Thing is, this phone is brand new, just got it for 6 days and I was also thinking of buying HTC ONE at first because audio DAC quality and, why not, to taste another Android flavour.
So my question would be: Would you recommend to exchange/switch it with somebody else for the HTC ONE on secondhand market? Or is it just a matter of lazy samsung devs? Will it get better (ie issues resolved) in some time? I'm just asking for oppinions, certainly nobody can give us those answers for real, but for the sake of wellness...
Cheers,
Slit.

I am also one of the guys who upgraded from s2..so far i am very happy with it..if u r talking abt the music playback audio quality then its way better than s2..so either u got a faulty device or u should factory reset and then apply the update again..no lags here..

thanks for your thoughts guitarmafia.
about sound quality: yeah, it appears so, and I do believe this Qualcomm DAC is way better than the Yamaha one in S2, although I do really hear it worse. Sounds more nasal, more resonant than the S2 was. Maybe I need to get used to it?
lag: I do have lag now, sunday night I was making pictures with Zero Lag alright (very impressed coming from an S2) and today, after the OTA update, I've got the camera firmware update and started to have shutter lag. My girlfriend's S3 does pics almost instantly, way faster than this.
Perhaps you should do what everbody does, and root it with a good Romsuch as Cyanogenmod or a good touchwiz one and you'll appreciate it.
I'm also disappointed since i feel my S2 was just as fast and as good.
S2 with NeatROM 4.8 was just as fast and as good as this S4, indeed. I do appreciate the FullHD screen compared to these 480x800, but instead we've got a greyish screen... and I do expect a quality product when I buy the flagship of Samsung, tbh.
Try a MF8 rom. Might fix some issues. Using it and have no problems. Smooth and fast. Dont know about cam lag because I dont have a reference point.

Oh, I see. Don't worry. I'm more confident with this screen and its response, although this isn't the phone I was expecting... and getting a i9500 is out of the question.
About MF8 rom, well, changelog doesn't look more promising than this MEA I have now.
Thanks for your thoughts, though.
Had s2 and s3 now have s4 for playing music its way better than the previous phones, more warmth and bass and more equalizer room to tweak through for ex with poweramp

I see that you have the i9505, are you an audiophile by any means? Not asking rudely, just wondering about a fellow music addict and i9505 audio quality compared with HTC One
