[Q] Issue with ROM Manager... - EVO 4G General

I am not sure where the fault lies, but I am having issues with ROM Manager and clockworkmod. They run fine and can be useful, but I find more often than not that I get errors when using them. I am thankful for the ability to flash RA from the manager because more often than not I end up switching.
My errors are:
Usually get the droid with the exclamation when trying to flash roms. I have tried via Warm Updater, ROM Manager and Clockwork Recovery. As soon as I flash RA, I am gold...
Today I tried to switch to Kings Unleashed R3 via ROM Manager and it got me stuck at splash screen... annoying but a backup is a savior!
For now I am going to stick to RA, but anyone else having these issues?

I had/have the same issues. Started out of nowhere. So, now I just d/l everything to my memory card and boot into recovery and manage everything manually. I also switched to RA, but, on my wife's EVO, it works fine. Very strange, but, that has always been one of the knocks on Clockwork Mod.

Personally, I've had no issues with clockworkmod. Its been very solid for me, but I have read many people who have had similar issues as you. I've also read that it doesn't do a very good job of whiping.

I dropped ROM Manager a LONG time ago. It's useless for my needs.
I'd rather use AR and flash anything in recovery

what version of cwm do you have installed?
newest rom manager also?
maybe there is a connection with the people having issues, I'm having no issues with 3.0.0.5 and newest rom manager

no issues With RA 2.3 gives you total control

You are having issues because you are trying to load certain roms that use amend scripting which don't work with the 3.0+ recoveries of cwm. Try downgrading your recovery to an older recovery like 2.5 at the bottom of rom manager and give it a shot.

clockwork mod not flashing recovery

I used ODIN to revert back to stock kernel, rooted my vibrant, then I installed rom manager from the market.
However, when I start rom manager and click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery", nothing actually happens! I don't get prompted to select a phone model or anything. Upon rebooting into recovery, I don't even get to the clockwork mod recovery screen. What gives?
it's driving me nuts and i'm going to set dev's on fire, esp since i just downloaded nero. samsung doesn't seem to be supported with the new update as of the last 24 hours and now i need a new method for getting into clockwork without using terminal or adb of any of that stuff. im not a total noob, but trying to work with that is like trying to read spanish. no comprehendo'
the weird thing is that I was able to use rom manager in the past to go from samsung's stock firmware to Onyx, and again when I went to Nero Beta. I don't understand why it would stop working now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9869448#post9869448
BAM!!!!! clockwork backdoor confirmed.
installing nero as i type.
^ thanks for sharing the fix. Fyi though, koush has fixed the server issue. All is well.

recovery crashes and roms not loading?

ive been trying to back up my current rom with rom manager and everytime its backs up the rom and when it goes to start up again it crashes and the screen goes hay wire. also when i tried to boot the gingerbread roms on my phone it says "installation aborted" then the screen goes hay wire and it just loads up the phone as if nothing happened.
so im not really sure what to do, i was able to load a beta gingerbread the other day and it worked fine but when i went to sample the others i started having problems. hope i didnt break my phone
Having same issue
evo, It's the poop!
Same problem here..but I don't think the evo is poop lol
Its not the evo, its the new clockwork and rom manager. It is seriously screwing up everybody's phone that is using it. If your phone doesn't have the new partitions that are coming out with the latest phones then clockwork won't work properly. The developer needs to pull it from the market before there is revolt. Try to flash aman ra 1.8 and hopefully you will be able to flash again. If you have the hboot 2.02 or 2.10 you need to find the modified aman ra recovery to properly flash.
damn i had a feeling there was something fishy goin on with the plethora of updates they recently had -____- well hopefully they get it fixed cuz this is seriously tickin me off haha. hopefully this doesnt do any damage to my phone tho. i love this thing to death
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894331
how do i get amon_ra on my phone?
I have the new hboot and the new clockwork and it wont flash a lot of zips. Just aborts them. What is the easiest way to get modified amonra and flash it without a computer lol.
evo, It's the poop!
I went up to CWM 3.0.0.0 and ran into tons of issues similar to what you said. I mostly had bootloops and force closes in both AOSP and Sense roms.
I got back to CWM 2.5.1.2 and all is good. Get back to an older version if you can till this gets sorted out.

Rom Manager

Ok guys so here is a little something i have been working on for yall. some of you may know rom manager and all its abilities (download roms and flash them without needing a computer, aka "OTA custom roms") well its done. only one team has the roms up and listed right now. now here is for the issues;
-rom manager does not recognize anything but 2.5.1.0 which is the first version of cwm we had going. afaik there are no plans to let it see cwm3 on teh epic
-any roms put on the list will be under premium, sorry ive tried talking to koush but this means you would need to have rom manager premium
now i am hoping we can get more rom devs up on the list and push for cwm3 to be recognized so that users of a certain rom can get notifications of updates and download them via wifi/4g/3g whenever they want. obviously i dont expect people to pay for the premium rom manager when they cant get the free one working.
if any rom devs wish to have their roms added to the list i will not do it for you but after a couple of hours of screwing with the lists (they are javascript.... >.<) i can offer some help on what may not be working. i am in the irc channels almost all the time, if you cant reach me there then shoot me a pm..
P.S. you may be wondering why i posted this in general eh? because this is partially for devs, but its for the users of the epic.. if this is a feature you want then yall need to speak up cuz as it stands now its pretty useless, im hoping by putting this out there that there will be enough of a cry for it that the situation gets handled and then everyone can use koush's awesome program

I thought this app was a cool idea when I first saw it..... then I realized it didn't work, and I never installed it anymore. if you can get it going, that would be awesome.... you've got my vote!

No no no. I'm a moron disregard what I said haha.
All thats happened is ROM Manager thinks I'm running 2.5.1.0 when I'm not.
But; shouldn't this just be a redirector issue?
right but even with it thinking you have 2.5.1.0, what version of cwm do you have? does it pop up and ask you to install cwm version x.x.x.x???
I'm running cwm 3 running ext4.
Rom manager works on the phone; but anytime it needs to go into cwm it fails.
It'll hang at the sammy logo. Pulling the battery and powering the phone up normally does the same.
However..doing the three button recovery boot it attempts to load cwm and fails then gives me the Triangle with an Exclamation point inside it..along with the green android.
so how do you get into recovery? also is it 3.0.0.5 or 3.0.0.6?

3.0.0.6
I'm unable to get into recovery through the manager it self. Once I do the three finger salute..it attempts to load and fails; I pull battery and just hold the power button and it loads into cwm.
ok so sounds like 3.0.0.6 is sorta working but we just need to be able to get into recovery normally now....
3.0.0.5 is confirmed to not be working at all
I would love this... had premium on my hero, but sadly I cannot use it on my epic.

Seems to me like it's just a redirector issue; but I've yet to dig into this too deeply so I could be wrong.
It seems to work fine..it just has issues loading directly into cwm.
Hey peeps hopefully someone here can help with almost similar problem.
I used one click root with cwm recovery 2.5.5 in both 2.1 DI18 and EB13. The recovery installed just fine on both.
When I download Rom manager from clockworkmod it doesnt detect that the recovery is installed. I cant do anything without installing the recovery according to ROM manager.
BUT it is installed! Why doesnt it detect it??
How can I get the rom manager to see that I do have clockworkmod recovery 2.5.5 installed?
Or is it not possible yet? I too am a suckered premium owner.

I don't think that ROM Manager can detect recoveries on the phones partitions. I believe it downloads and installs recovery to the sd card.
I some how managed to get an older recovery installed 2.5.1 But still get "an error occured while downloading your recovery." when I click any option and select samsung epic from the prompted list. In an attempt to install the recovery.
If it doesn't install to the fixed partitions how does it install the recovery to boot from? I thought thats where it had to be? That would mean the current recovery I have is in the SD card? then a simple edit of a file would allow it to be detected?

I believe ROM Manager uses the stock recovery to redirect to a zip file on the sd. If the redirector isn't set up right it won't work. The One-Clicks we use to install CWM install it to fixed partition.
I do see that the ACS team is on board with this, hope to see more support soon. On my buddies Fastinate there is quite a bit to work with in Rom Manager, it is a very cool option.
Thanks to all the Dev's

Learn to flash manually!

I'm a noob, but I've done my research on rooting and flashing before I rooted. This post is simply to stress how much of a crutch clockworkmod is to rooted users unnecessarily. Its surprising how many topics on these forums come from users dependent on clockworkmod. Clockworkmod is an awesome app as long as you don't use it for ALL of the heavy lifting. Amon Ra is a great recovery tool as well.

Rom Manager and Clockwork recovery would be awesome... if they worked reliably. I've been flashing manually using Amon Ra and have had a lot less problems than I did trying to do it the "easy way".
Rom manager is what I meant by clockworkmod. I am still a noob ;-)
It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.

I agree. I won't use anything other than Amon Ra recovery. Too many issues with Clockwork.
a lot of people simply use rom manager to download the rom then flash it manually through recovery. rom manager is just a nice easy way to get access to a **** ton of roms without scouring the net for download links and dealing with file hosting sites and such. same can now be said about kernel manager.

Exactly. Ease of use. Don't deny that some 'less experienced' users take advantage of such services and put off actually learning the 'long form' methods, but doesn't mean they're entirely bad. I've seen experienced users condemning anyone that uses them and I find it kinda lame. Besides, no ones fault but the end user when they mess something up. We will forever see posts about simple issues, so this won't stop it.

Rom manager gives you easy access to Rom downloads & reviews, but a lot of times the roms listed are few and outdated. In my opinion, forums will give more insight on roms & kernels. As for resources, here's my main two:
Roms - http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs
Kernels - http://ttechnology.home.comcast.net/~ttechnology/downloads.html

Gimme a couple a days to come up with a new sig that is cool.

You can't as far as I know. Rom manager disables features if clockwork mod isn't set as your recovery.

Thank you for this post!
Some good info here.
I haven't used Rom Manager or ClockworkMod since my first flash months ago, but I read in a guide someone gave someone about "manual flash override" or something like that. I understood that to mean you could enable that setting, use Amon Ra, and still use Rom Manager for certain things - like downloading.
Can someone confirm this? I'm just curious, I prefer Amon Ra for many reasons & like to do everything manually to avoid errors, but it would be neat if there was that feature... just so people have options.

what type of problems are we having with clockwork? ive used it to flash a cm7 rom with no problem at all.
I have never used rom manager to install a rom.
I use clockwork recovery to flash roms and I don't have any issues.

Yes you can! I use AmonRa for all of my flashing and wiping, but I still use rom manager for downloads and reviews. You can accomplish this by installing AmonRa directly in hboot. The AmonRa thread will give you instructions and required files.
It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.
You don't want to flash AmonRa through rom manager because it disables most of the app features. Simply install AmonRa in hboot and rom manager is unaffected. This does disable the flashing capability of rom manager, but that's the purpose of this topic.

I use Amon Ra too. I'm new to Android, but did a **** ton of research on the whole process. A lot of people would agree that Amon Ra is better than Clockwork, but each have their strengths and weaknesses.
I find Amon Ra's UI better organized, easier to use, and more responsive.
When I tried to flash SavagedZen or Baked Snack with clockwork it just wouldn't work. Switch to AmonRa and no problems since.
It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.
You can flash both clockwork and amon ra from rom manager.my evo works great with rom manager new update of rm is cool which gives u option for dalvic and other things.
I've had so many less issues using AmonRa such as boot loop & difficulty restoring backups.

Need help with rom manager

Hello all, I've successfully rooted my phone, I get the yellow triangle when I boot, and I can run root apps. My kernel is cyanogenmod #4, and running 2.3.3 standard rom. I have rom manger installed and have clockwork mod 4.0.1.4 installed. My question is however that I can only sometimes boot into recovery, I occasionally get a white triangle with an ! in the middle with a little green droid. When I do get the phone to boot into recovery, and say try to back up my rom, it freezes at backing up system, progress bar never moves. Also tried custom roms, same thing, no joy, progress bar is the same, doesn't even start to move. I have had a number of android phones and have always ran custom roms, so do have a little idea about installing them, but I'm totally stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated, dying to try the new cyanogenmod rom.

Rom Manager isnt compatible with the SII, use the standard CMW via the 3keys/Jig/app and not
Rom Managers recovery.

ROMManager most certainly does work with SGS2, it is even the recommended way for installing CM7 on the SGS2.
I've also never seen the problem OP says, even though I use rommanager a fair bit.
