G'day. I hate to be posting, especially after that intro video However, I have searched thru the related posts, (everything that has kernel + dalingrin in the title/subject etc) and I can't seem to find anything related to specifically what I need.
Background: Bought nook on ebay from a nice guy who included instructions on how to register and re-root. Took me a hour or two because he didn't include a step. Got it figured out without his help - so I'm not a complete idiot, but I'm out of my realm on this one. I don't do this kind, so please be kind and patient.
I want to install the dalingrin‘s Nook Color Tweak App as I find the volume on my nook repulsing. I need a hearing aid to read their lips, it's that quiet =\ So I am asking for a tutorial basically. I read that it needs a kernel, how do I find the right one, I found threads that had a few kernel downloads but not the one I need from what the red text says. Where do I install it? (is that information included in the download, once I find where it is?) and lastly, once the kernel is installed, do I run the app like I did manual nooter, installing zip, choosing zip, etc?
Thanks for your time.
I haven't played much with kernel yet but do suggest, since the OC (overclocked) kernel created by Daringlin, do search for his name.
AFAIK, the 063011 is his latest work with 5 cpu clock stepping up to 1200MHz along with voltage adjustments and audio tune.
Make sure you get the corresponding for your running ROM, i.e. running off eMMC or booting from uSD.
If I find the link, I'll post.
Other members surely will help you out.
Update: just to clear up a bit, you need to install his apps (NookColorTweak) in order to adjust voltage and audio

Most of the posts I've come across are people complaining they can't get it to work in general or their kernel doesn't work. I need to know how to install it before I can utilize the "I broke it" posts lmao. Thank you though.

If you read the whole post, that is the link I provided to ask my questions on. I want to know the info on how to install THAT app, including which kernel I need ( it has a few listed in red at the bottom) and how I go about doing that. As I mentioned, I am not incompetent, but I am not familiar with this kind of stuff either. A simple how-to is all I'm looking for from someone who has actually went thru the steps to install this app.
As I mentioned above, you need to identify which category you are falling in.
I believe each version of his (dalingrin's) work, there are 4 different kernels which associate with each of the running ROM.
1. Rooted NC which runs stock ROM (Froyo 2.2)
a. Running off internal eMMC
b. Booting from external uSD
2. CM7 ROM (Gingerbread 2.3.x)
a. Running off internal eMMC
b. Booting from external uSD
The latest version would be the "06302011"
Again, firstly, identify and download the correct file.
Secondly, i do not root my NC but install CM7 ROM on it, so
a. for running off eMMC, put the correct file in the flashable CwM, insert into the NC, power it up, "install zip file from SD card" -> "choose zip file from SD card", then flash it.
b. for booting from uSD, put the correct file into the root folder of the bootable CM7, insert into the NC, power it up, it will automatically detect and install the OC's zip file.

I hope I get this right: When I got the NC, I had to reset it to default settings. Registered under my account, then restored it to 1.1, then to 1.2 (which I think is Froyo 2.2 from what I read here. Then I used manual nooter 4.6.16
its not running a boot disk, it was installed straight into the NC, if that makes sense.
So I guess I fall into:
"1. Rooted NC which runs stock ROM (Froyo 2.2)"
And is this the correct link/kernel? http://coachz.inetpro.org/~dalingrin/nook/kernels/063011/
So just install to a boot disk, put it in, install like nooter. Then install the tweak app the same way and all I'm done? Coming from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925451 it says " Must be set with an app like SetCPU unless running CM7" Is this an app I download from the market, correct?
I'm sorry, just trying to make sense of all this, and I appreciate your help.
I guess you would need the third one from your link (Froyo 1.2 ... emmc)
Create a flashable uSD, drag the zip file on, put the uSD in the NC, then install/choose zip from SD card.
Keep all of your fingers crossed.
I wish you luck.
P.S. the app is Dalingrin NookColorTweak.
P.S. since you rooted the NC, you should get full access on the Market, do search for the NookcolorTweak app first and see if you can find it before flash the kernel.

If your'e running cm7 the correct kernel has been appearing in the last few nightlies, though I recommend you wait until tonight to install it.
If it's stock you're using.. well... why?
Using Verygreens size agnostic cm7 sd card bootable.
Installed mobo to watch movies and would like to increase the audio .
Have installed Danlingrins color tweaks and would appreciate the correct dalingrin overclock kernel link please
I would post a link but it looks like they are down. Anyways for cm7.0.3 the latest kernel for that would be the 4242011 sd kernel. Make sure its the sd version.
I did answer this in one of the post, sorry, can't remember the post, left alone the link.
Basically, the latest of Dalingrin work is 063001
Deleted Post--Bad info!
Misinformation
Guys he says he is on cm7.0.3. Dals latest kernels only work on nightlies and cm7.1 when is released that use the new uboot. The latest build that works for 7.0.3 is the 04242011 kernel which is based on the 2.6.29. Dals latest kernels are based on 2.6.32 which needs the new uboot to work. Read his post it says this on op.

You are right sir. I forgot about the new uboot being added for the RC1 and newer nightly's! It's all a blur really........................
Don't worry I forget a lot of things lol just trying to prevent problems for others
Finally found a link
Is this the correct download for the cm7 3.0.1
update-CM7-dalingrin-OC-sd-042411ext4.zip 22-May-2011 19:57 4.3M
But its not suitable for what I want to do I think
I read through the linked post how far away is the stable cm7.1
Also the nook color tweaks state for audio settings you will need a newer 2.6.32 kernel found in cm7 nightly 88+ or my darlingrins6/9/11 overclock kernel for B and N froyo and cm7 from 6/9/11 . So the above 042411 wont do the job ?
Sorry I was focusing on the overclocking and forgot that the audio was your main concern. Anyways then yes you will need newer kernel version I believe to get the results you want. The lastest nightlies have been pretty good lately and have dals kernel preinstalled. There is already a release candidate for 7.1 so it shouldn't be too much longer for a stable release.
So inshort, to achieve your goal you can flash the release candidate for 7.1 or try the latest nightlies. Just make a back up of your current setup and give it a go. If you experience any problems you can always go back.
Thanks I backed up the cm7.03 to my computer, I downloaded the latest cm7.1 and copied to the sd card , I have gone into recovery but the new update hasnt installed. Not sure what I have done wrong . The cm7.0.3 didnt have a multi boot , I dont know whether I read somewhere that I have to upgrade the u boot file first ?
Any help would be appreciated thanks
Hmm idk but if you have a non rooted Nook Color and just run cm7 off the sd card your Nook should already have the new u-boot, assuming your Nook is already on B&N software 1.2. Is it?
"I have gone into recovery but the new update hasnt installed."
Any error message displayed?
This is the file I downloaded update-cm-7.1.0-RCO-encore-2.6.32beta3.1zip
however on some thread searchs this file comes up update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip
perhaps I have the wrong file ?
A link to the correct file would be appreciated .
When I go into menu amd down to tablet it sayes that it is version 7.0.3 on my nook .
The only error message I got was on the home screen above my icons and it had problem loading widget .
Yes I have got stock on the internal, it is only runnning off sd card . I only purchased the nook a month ago so I am assuming it is the latest B&N os
Thank you for any help it is appreciated I apologise in advance for the late replies ( Its 1 am here in Australia and I have too get the kids off to school in the morning so I probably wont reply for another 8 hours . )
Make sure to really read verygreens post. He has an updated installer for the newer versions(I think 1.3 is correct)

Yes you will need both files. Verygreen says that you can place both the updated image and the cm7 files in your boot partition and it will update your image and cyanogenmod together. You have to boot into recovery with the hard buttons though cuz the reboot into recovery option isn't supported.
Thank you dabiddabird I will try now.
Hi guys,
I installed the CyanoGenMod 7.1.0.2 and I have to say that the logo is really interesting but, u know, 10 minutes watching the same circle while trying to "touch the android to begin" are sufficient...
Like ever, I didn't make a copy of backup before follow the procedure to install this rom (yes I'm stupid)...
Now, I'm downloading the 7.1.0.1 but i can't copy it into the SD card because windows doesn't see my xperia (because I can't skip this loop)
same old question: what can I do?
maybe insert the sd card in another phone and copy the 7.1.0.1 version of cyanogenmod and install through clockworkmod?
or there are any other solutions? (because at the moment i haven't another phone to try this way)
thanks for your answers
EDIT: sorry, I posted in the wrong section (I was sleepy and sure that I was posting on Q&A)... could anyone move this thread in the correct section? thanks

[PLEASE make sure to thank developer for the dedication to this ROM

FAQ
Q Why a special Q&T Thread for a specific ROM??
A The bigger a ROM development thread gets, the greater the chance that posts are being placed in this thread that are not related to the ROM development itself, e.g. problems with flashing, installation, bugs, things not working etc. However this is understandable, it's not according to the guidelines of XDA for Development sections. Therefore the main goals of the ROM specific Q&T threads is to avoid this cluttering of the original develpment thread with these OT posts by redirecting the posters to the ROM specific Q&T thread and also to relieve the developer from answering these post, so he can dedicate his time to developing.
Q How to move my post to the Q&A/T thread?
A Copy the text of your post in the dev's thread, got to the Q&A/T thread and paste it there. After having done that, go back to the dev's thread, edit your post and change the text into: moved to Q&A/T thread, preferably accompanied with a link to this thread.
Q When I'm asked to move my post to the Q#A/T thread, do I have to do that?
A When you're asked to move your post, there will always be given an explanation by the OP of the Q&A/T, e.g. your post is not development related (f.i. SD card problems, etc), so please be so kind to move your post. If you want to help the dev to keep his original thread as clean as possible from OT posts, then the answer is, of course, YES. Although we cannot force you to move your post, it's highly recommended to do so
Q Where can I download this ROM and How do I install?
A You can find the link to download and installation instructions HERE.. Pay close attention to this post, everything required for a successful flash is listed right here. If you fail to follow the instructions or meet the requirements for installation, you could run into some problems.
Q How’s battery life?
A see this question asked repeatedly across all ROMS. Honestly there is no way to give you an answer based on a ROM. There are too many variables in question and results vary from user to user and device to device. Battery life is going to depend on age and condition of your battery, your use habits with your device, installed apps, tweaks, settings, etc...
Q How do I...
A Ask your questions and report your issues in this thread. You will receive a response and hopefully get you back up and running this ROM to it's fullest

Hi my friend,
would you also be so kind to post this message at the end of your thread???
In addition to THAN's post:
This thread has been created, in accordance with the owner of the original development thread, to keep his thread clean from Off Topic, e.g. non-development related, posts. What are OT posts? Examples:
1. I want to install this ROM, how to do that?? This is a question you can find in the first post of the thread.
2. I want to use a specific app with this ROM, will this work with it. Not development related., etc . etc.
3. Posts about WiFi/BT that are working for you, while others have no problems with that.
4. SD Card related problems, etc

Running a second phone using a Samsung 32 GB, Class 10 and NexusHD2-JellyBean-CM10.1 V2.1 on Native SD with no problem.
At this point, I'm not certain whether the issue is related to the SD card, the build, or an incompatible app running in the background. Last evening, I went through all of the apps on the phone, starting using, and then closing. None triggered the freeze. It seems to occur after the phone has gone to sleep. It just won't wake-up, requiring pulling the battery and restarting.
I had been running the prior releases on NAND without issue other than the aforementioned memory problems. Any comments, suggestions appreciated.
Over the weekend, I replaced the SanDisk Ultra® microSDXC™ UHS-1, 64GB card with a Samsung Pro Extreme Speed 64GB and reinstalled. So far, the problem appears to be solved and was related to the SanDisk Card. Performed a second installation using a Microcenter store brand 32 GB, Class 10 card and it too seems to be running flawlessly. The SanDisk cards are headed back to the store. I may simply have had a bad card, but wanted to share my experience.

Need Help
Hi,
I really need some help to understand better the way of flashing this rom.
I may have been doing something wrong.
But first i need to say I LOVE MIUI ROM.
I have an HTC HD2 Leo (EU) 512MB
My SD Card is not of a good brand, it is 8gb class 6 card, that came with my first HTC HD. It has some years now.
I have installed this ROM via ClockMod 1.5 and created a FAT 32 and an EXT4 partition.
Everything runs excellant in the ROM, but after a few days, the phone starts to freez and in a point i start losing APPS.
It is really anoying to do it all again, all is backuped with Xiamomi Account and Google account, but it is really boring to put everything again on SD card, and flash it all over again.
Do you think it might be a problem with my SD Card?
Help is much apreciated.
I really want to use this ROM.
Thank you,

Hi,
1. for installing instructions for this ROM see page 1 of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2255056
2. IMJO you should buy a new SD Card cause that might be the cause of your problem(s). When was the last time you formatted your SD Card? I format it every two weeks to prevent the Card is the cause of problems, like freezes, instability, battery drainage, etc.

Hi all,
Some days ago I bought a HD2 with Windows Mobile and today I managed to flash MIUI on it. Everything seems to work flawlessly except for the internet connection. No data (H in the status bar is displayed) and no Wifi connection (it gets stuck at "obtaining IP address"). But I can receive and make calls and the SIM card works in my Xperia Z (I use it with an µSIM -> SIM adapter, but this works in my G1 ).
So what do I do wrong? APN is also correct...
Thanks in advance,
Lunch
PS: I have already tried #7 out of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10433749#post10433749 (7th)
And another SIM card shows exactly the same problem.
EDIT2: after this I flashed another ROM (NexusHD2) and all mobile data related issues are gone.

Hi Lunch,
I met the same problem with a certain Android ROM. What I did to solve it, is remove every WiFi connection it detected and added them again manually which gave me the possibilty to enter the key of the Router. After that WiFi worked without any probs. Maybe this will work for you too!!
kindest regards, Kuzibri
Thank you, maybe I'll try MIUI once again and I'll look through it.

GPS problem and SOD on lock screen
I installed this rom (current ver 3.4.19) and all in all I think it is best HD2 Android ROM on JellyBean 4.1.2.
One problem exist since first 4.1.2 release of this rom (gtbluesky on miui.com). It is a GPS problem, that seems unsolved yet. It is difficult to search original forums on miui.com for solution, because of chinese, of which I dont understand any word.
Anyway, I'm sure that all freezes I have had are due to this particular gps isssue, because phone freezes with SOD only while in sleep (lock screen), and I think it is because one of the app (system or user) trying to get GPS data freezes the phone and lock screen is then locked for sure with famous black screen of death with only hard key's light on.
I came to this conclusion because I installed app "GPS status" from market and tried forceing gps just to test my phone GPS radio. After launching, app waited (as usual for gps apps depending on my location, satelites position, gps cacche etc) and finally when gps was captured with correct data, then freezed the phone leaving me with no other option but to reset the phone with pulling out the battery.
I repeated this several times and got freezed almost every time.
Google maps freezes phone also, as soon as location is fetched from satelites, not from AGPS.
If anyone noticed this, or had this same problem, please post some advice or solution how to fix this.
My HD2 is:

ext4 partition: 2048
Hey there guys. I recently installed this ROM and everything works fine, didn't have any major problems. The only thing that bothered me was the camera, as it was a bit buggy. So I then decieded to use the one from my Titanium Backup (from a previous rom installation). It worked just fine.
Yesterday I wanted to take a picture and the camera icon was gone. If anything both were gone, by that I mean that after the ROM install there were two camera icons (before the TB one). I retried to restore the one from TB, to no avail. I just wanna know what the problem is, or should I just install a camera from the Playstore? Thanks for a wonderful ROM!:good:
My Install details are as follows:
MIUI 3.5.3 with DataOnExt
Bootloader: MAGLDR
Recovery: CWM
Ext4 partition: 4GB
Swap size: 256mb
Memory: 512 (International)
SYS partition: 380 MB with 5mb cache
SD card: SanDisk 16GB Class 10
Hi Guys,
I am a noob at Android hacking / modding. I own a Nexus 4 and yesterday I rooted my phone and installed custom ROM. While trying to enable the USB OTG option I am facing certain issues. Kindly find below the steps I have followed till now :
1. Rooted and unlocked my phone.
2. Installed clockworkmod recovery
3. Installed Custom ROM (Beanstalk by He][razor) using the "Install from Zip on SD Card option"
4. After doing all the above I have tried installing the kernel zip files ("Install from Zip on SD Card option" in CWM) given for USB OTG in two different forums :
a. [fk r199] [fk r199-CM] in Ziddey thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/orig-development/usb-otg-externally-powered-usb-otg-t2181820
b. [hells-Core-b43] [hells-Core-b43-CM] in justvarshney thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/kernel-patch-hells-core-kernel-otg-t2586524
In both the cases after I bootup, android.media reported errors and my storage was un-mounted. I tried the above given 4 kernels till now. Either case the phone has ran into some problems.
Following is my phone info :
ROM : Beanstalk version 4.4.255-mako
Kernel version currently : 3.4.0-cyanogenmod-g72267ac [email protected] #1
Device - Nexus 4 16gb
Please help me out with the following questions as I cant post in the main thread by Ziddey :
1. Am I installing a kernel that doesn't match with the Android version / Rom Version / Rom type (deodexed / odexed) ?
2. Is this the right way to install a kernel - "Install from Zip on SD Card option" in CWM ?
3. Am I doing anything wrong?
Let me know if any more information is needed to answer my questions and sorry for my poor knowledge about Android.
Regards,
Amogh

I just read about the app on Play store it says
The Nexus 4 is not supported - this is an issue with the device, not with StickMount !

Why bother with this as you cannot use the USB stick without an external battery and a Y USB cable? I tried to do this at some point and it seamed too cumbersome to do for the benefit it provides.
If it were the case, that this would work by itself, as it would for a tablet, than it would be useful. But as you still have to carry additional hardware on you to make it work, you could use a PC and a Micro USB to USB cable to obtain the same effect.
