Bricked my streak already ? Help ! - Streak 5 General

Just got my streak yesterday, only had it a few hours and i've somehow managed to brick it already !
Started on the official 1.6, upgraded to official 2.2, rooted it, installed clockwork recovery. All was fine up until this point, i then went to install the performance fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848487 but after doing so my streak stopped booting, since then its just hanging at the dell logo.
First thing i tried was restoring to the default recovery rom by holding power + volume buttons and option 2. This didnt work so i then tried this http://android.modaco.com/content/d...2-1-downloads-how-tos-rom-superboot-recovery/ and still no luck.
I've been at it for hours and its late so im giving up for now, i just hope the xda community can help me out.
Edit: I should add that the recovery image (option 2) is going through fine without errors, its only that when it boots it hangs at the dell logo. Also, fastboot is working so hopefully its not completely bricked. Is there anything i can do ?

get qdl tool and see if u can get to 305 stock
GET QDL TOOL HERE
Turn phone completely off, hold volume up and plug phone to computer
Open QDL Tool
if you have the correct driver, it will recognize ur phone
if not, the driver is included but u have to search how to install it
Hit Run and wait about 3-5 minutes
When its done it will reboot and be on stock 305 and then u can try again with ur update

Thanks just had a go at QDL but cant seem to get it to work. I got it to detect my phone as the Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9002 but after clicking run it just errors.

After countless hours of going insane i have managed to get my streak working again using the o2 package (build 8105) found here http://android.modaco.com/content/d...2-1-downloads-how-tos-rom-superboot-recovery/
I couldnt get QDL to work for some reason so in the end i just downloaded the above package, copied to sd, renamed to update.pkg, powered on with volume buttons and chose option 2.
Its working now so thats the main thing, i was worried i might have bricked it for good ! Now i just need to get back to the official dell rom

If I wre doing this, I would get the multi_recovery tool. I would put the 351 package on your SD card
Flash the 351 recovery with the tool. Do not boot up go right into the recovery and point it to the 351 package. Make sure the 351 package has been renamed to the proper name. Either update.pkg or update.zip.
Worked like a champ for me.

Sorry but bug in but I'm having the same issue. I finally got QDL to work but after it finishes, the phone shows a screen with "Andriod system recovery utility
Press the shutter button to start emergency software recovery
Warning all data will be erased
Press the Volume up button to power off without recovering".
After I press shutter the it loads the update.pkg and then sits on the dell logo, and sits, and sits.

I'm now back on the official dell 2.2, in the end i had to flash the 351 recovery image to get the rom pkg to work.
I flashed the above recovery in fastboot mode since i cant get QDL to work, checked my drivers countless times, tried windows 7 64 bit and 32 bit, aswell as windows xp 32 bit. 64 bit always gives me the d14 error and 32 bit is the d2 error so i just cant understand why it wont work, surely it cant be a driver issue since fastboot works flawlessly and i've spent hours checking the driver now. Also i've followed the guide on streakdroid to the book so im pretty certain my setup is perfect.
Anyway, im happy with the official 2.2 for a while now but at some point i would like to try a custom rom through qdl, etc.

That's it? WHen I installed the recovery from your link, after it said recovery install done(something along those lines) the phone didn't restart like it has with my previous recovery installs. I waited a few minutes, pulled the battery, and restarted into recovery, hit update and it has been a blank screen since.
I think I'm out of luck. I had the phone plugged into the charger all night and I'm trying to flash it now and the battery is at 0%. Can't charge it or anything. Time to call dell.

Factory reset loop, please help

Im in trouble here. Was on ota 319 and decided to go back to us 1.6 since i was having issues with force close on incoming calls. Got all the way back to us1.6 then tried to load QDLTool and drivers. Once i got the driver installed by following the video, the phone went into a resetting loop and i cant get it out. I cant get into fastboot without using QDLTool.
I would like to load 309 recovery and 318pkg.
Im getting an error at the end on the run in QDLTool that says
ERROR[D2]: wait ADB fastboot mode timeout!
Please check that device is exist and driver is properly installed.

Can change rom, error message

Hi all!
Ive just got mine Dell Streak working with the QDLTool.
Now i found out that the original 2.2 dosent support rebelsim (or the other way)
So im gonna downgrade to 2.1 or change to Stephen Hydes 1.5.3 rom.
All goes well with fastboot but when im choosing the "Upgrade from sdcard" option in recovery mode i get this message:
""Android system recovery utility - GAUSB1A110421. To perform an emergency software recovery, you will need to insert a microSD card containing an update file. (/sdcard/update.pkg). To download an update file, and for further instructions, visit support.dell.com. Press the Volume down button to power off. "
When i now boot up the phone and look in Settings> About phone> Baseband version it says Unknown.
Ive googled it but cant find a solution.
Anyone?
/Robin
ok, just to confirm, you havent managed to flash the 2.1/1.5.3 rom? if so, then you need to copy the 2.1 rom(build 8105) to the sdcard, and rename it update.pkg
If you want to go to steves 1.5.3, then you need to flash a new recovery (streakdroid works nicely), flash the 2.1 baseband via fastboot, and then flash the 1.5.3 rom(which you would rename update.zip). For further, fuller details, have a browse of the link posted below. When i first got the streak, it helped me immensely. Step-by-step.

The problem seems to be that the phone cant find any sdcard Ive tried 3 of them, my computer and my SE X10 finds and reads the cards.
Any new ideas?

I tried a factory reset but now i only se a white background that say factoryreset and sometimes the dell logo apperas. The phone is now unusable
I cant even enter fastboot

[Q] how to backGT540 2.3 SwiftDroid CM7 Project Mur4ik and clean 2.3.1 to normal 2.1

hey frnd can any one plz help me....
i have ported GT540 2.3 SwiftDroid CM7 Project Mur4ik and clean 2.3.1 in my lg gt540.
how can i back in normal 2.1?
plz help me...
bcoz i want to sell my phone early....
thanks.....
Downgrade from 2.2.1 (2.3) to 2.1
1. We go in and write FastBoot:
- Fastboot.exe-w (This command does XP)
- Fastboot.exe erase system (cleaning section System)
- Fastboot.exe erase boot (clean partition boot)
- Fastboot.exe-w (To be sure)
2. Flash a rom with kdz updater
got it from 4pda, it should work.
It will not work: many have problems after first time use fastboot roms. It looks like that only small percent of owners can flash GT540 with stock ROM and in that case phone work. Many can flash but phone stuck at boot logo. If you use fastboot 2.1 it will work normally
^^
so i cant downgrade my phone with ROM that have no fastboot?
Try, you cannot loose anything. Maybee you will be in that few pwercent of users that downgrade works.
Just use a fastboot rom, I sold my silver GT540 with a fastboot rom on it then got a White one, to be honest, Most phones from other manufacturers have fastboot enabled anyway, so I don't see it as a problem
Jack
Well i'd recommend using your backup you made using clockwork recovery
I hope you made one
ohh u m not take backup of orignal 2.1..
have any one backup
plz give me link of bakup 2.1

It does not cause a problem to downgrade to 2.1 without fastboot, I have done that several times. All you have to focus on is the following:
after doing "fastboot -w" turn the phone off. And DO NOT TURN IT ON AGAIN. Remove the battery, sim and SD. Hold the camera + power and then plug the phone to usb it will run into download mode. Run the KDZ updater with CS Emergency mode and flash whatever 20A rom you can have. Before the update ends, it will reboot and ask you to insert the battery. Do not unplug the phone until the KDZ updater gives you the ======= finished ====== message.
I hope this helps.
first, try restore with clockworkmod the backup of the 2.1 rom and after flash the original rom with kdz
guide here
i have followed all the steps but when i connect phone to the computer and try to run the kdz updater i get phone not found and ideas whats wrong
The king
You are the man, thank you sooooooo much, two weeks on getting the downgrade working and this works a treat.
After downgrade I was able to get into the unlock menu and was able to enter the unlock code, I am so happy for your post.

yeah just turn your phone off and plug in your usb, hold camera and power for a bit and it should connect. It may still be black screen but do not worry, then run kdz. I can tell when it connects by have my computer open on windows 7 and you will see it flash up on the left hand side. Other times I hold power and home key? The trouble I had was just horrible but just be patient.

Sigh.. I just bricked my Streak (Resolved. Streak Resurrected)

I was running streakdroid 1.8.1, and was having the wifi/3g problem, and after trying the below suggestion (which was posted in the dev section of the 1.8.1 thread post#367 link=http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11869560&postcount=367):

Dumb question, anyone know if it's possible to lose your carrier unlock when doing such things?

Now my streak doesn't boot, can't get to fastboot (pwr+camera), or recovery (vol+,vol-, pwr). Sometimes all three led's light up, and stay on and nothing happens, and sometimes the LED's stay off and nothing happens.
I tried using qdltool (vol+, usb connection to PC) , and it timesout after reboot ok message after I click RUN in qdltool. I installed both the qualcomm and dell fastboot drivers as per instructions, and I don't have a yellow ! in device manager.
Would appreciate any suggestions on what I should try next.

search for the QDL tool, follow instructions and you will be in business again.
I tried QDL tool, and it fails with a fastboot timeout error:
"wait ADB fastboot mode timeout!"
That means you dont have the fastboot driver loaded right.
First is the qualcom driver which you made through... after the small stuff loads. It then pops over to fastboot driver.
Try another driver or pc

Is there some other driver that works better?
i would remove fastboot drivers... reboot, use reinstall drivers and use a different usb...

It may be the drivers or it may be the Streak. I have a Streak that isnt recognized as a USB device when plugged in and will not boot into fastboot mode (black screen) with the camera+power buttons. I have tried on 3 PC's(2 windows 7, 1 linux) and none will talk to it via ADB. However they will talk to my other working Streak so I know it isnt the driver.
I suspect it is corrupt NAND memory and have come to the conclusion that the only way to fix it is to get someone to JTAG reprogram it or swap out the mainboard. I would love it if someone can prove me wrong though...
BTW i bought this Streak in this condition so I dont know for sure how it got in this state.
your missing something.. def a driver issue says so itself.
do you get fastboot to work at all outside the qdl tool? if so can you follow the following guide?
http://forum.pocketables.net/showthread.php?t=8285
That's just it, the streak won't power up (pwr+camera), which would allow me to do fastboot outside of qdl tool.
Before I bricked it, I was able to run fastboot outside of qdltool all the time without any problems.
its not bricked... there is an issue with the timing of the driver kicking in or something driver related.. try another pc.
this is a pc issue.. not a streak issue. This part was always the biggest pain in my ass.. took me hours to get my system working right for this stuff.. the streak.. no issues....
i think the streak is unbrickable like the galaxy s phones.
I've tried both my PC's (desktop Win7 64, laptop WinVista 32), and both get the same error.
I've also tried different usb ports. When I first tried fastboot a couple of months ago, I was able to install the correct driver because I was able to start the streak in fastboot mode which then allowed me to install the driver on the desktop ( called android something if I recall correctly).
The problem I had with the QDL tool was the ADB driver also. The instructions I watched didn't include installing it, but did include downloading the folder that had it. If you are following the visual tutorial from the streakdroid website, go into all the folders you downloaded in the process. Somewhere in there is your specifc ADB driver. I was getting the ADB fail also until I found my driver and it installed. Good luck.

I agree with the above post. You havent updated the correct driver. I noticed that when i searched through the recovery folders i notoced that the qcuser driver or whatever it was called, was in multiple folders....i experienced the same ADB error you did but i just kept switching with qcuser driver until i found the correct one. Go have a second look or third look....im sure ull find the right one.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I've tried all three qcser, qcusb and qcmdm in the repairtool (qdltool) driver subdirectory for 32bit windows in winvista and wnet, with no luck.
Did any of you have problems putting the streak in fastboot mode independent of the PC, because that's not working for me. It used to work for me by pressing pwr + camera buttons.
I believe the ADB drivers were in the other folder you downloaded per the directions.
Also, I was able to get into fastboot prior to the QDL tool, but I don't believe that matters at all. The QDL tool is halfway there at the point it errors on you. You just need that correct ADB driver. You are so close, don't give up. Try the faq section of streakdroid.com
Furthermore, if you have access to an XP machine use it. You are almost back to Streakville.

See this page - it is a version of QDLTool that only flashes some files. I believe that it is used to repair the boot.img.
From this page:
Q: I’m trying to flash my Streak with the QDLTool but it keeps coming up with Error D2 ADB Timeout
A: This can be for a number of reasons. Firstly, look at what is displayed on the screen of the Streak:
Nothing / Screen is blank: This could be a sign of a corrupted fastboot image. Download streakflash.zip from the Downloads section and use the version of QDLTool it contains to reinstall the base images. You can then retry using QDLTool from repairtool.zip
Black screen, says “DT is in FASTBOOT_MODE”: This can be the sign of a driver issue – Try reloading the Fastboot/ADB drivers
White screen, says “FASTBOOT_MODE”: Go through the process again, this time using a different USB port.

Nandroid restore of streakdroid 1.6.0 successful.
I've been trying to upgrade to the more recent versions, but none of them (at least in my case) are as stable as 1.6.0.
1.6.1 with it's builtin perfmod is unstable.
Both 1.7.x and 1.8.1 are stable, but they suffer from the wifi/3g problem. Both wifi and 3g work, but I usually have to reboot to switch from one to the other, which is a hassle.
Yes, I've tried factory resets on all of them, but eventually, I either have random reboots, or FC's galore.
I know other people have gotten 1.6.1, 1.7.x, and 1.8.x to run stable, but I've had no such luck.
So for now, I'm sticking with 1.6.0 ( I get quadrant scores in the 1600-1700 range, which is pretty good).
Anyway, thanks again for all your help.

Unable to install Recovery on streak..will not boot. completely lost.

Hi guys
Let me start off by saying..I should have never attempted this myself.
I'm hoping somebody could please help me with my somewhat-bricked device..bricked in the sense that I don't know what to do with it. (i'm a noob to this). I've tried installing a custom rom and completely screwed up my dell streak 5.
So the phone doesn't boot anymore and just takes me to the option to install update.pkg off the sd card. I added the file along with recovery.img to the sd card.
360 17397 00 May 31, 2011 PKG Recovery Hash Latest Retail rom
My problem is that I cannot for whatever reason get Flashboot to work in order to flash the recovery.img first. under device manager you see android phone/android adb interface but still can't manage the connection to use cmd prompt/fastboot.
Is there any other way of getting the recovery.img to work without fastboot..maybe thru the sd card. I have no idea what i'm doing anymore. I've tried installing the update.pkg but after installation it just stays on the dell logo loading screen forever.
PLEASE help if you can.
Well lets start off to get you back on a stock rom, as it sounds like that would be the easiest at this point. We can move on to a custom rom from there.
The pkg file you downloaded....did you rename it update.pkg ?
If not, rename it update.pkg and make sure it is on the root of your sd card. Get to the recovery menu where you have the option of upgrading from update.pkg and choose it. In about 5 minutes, you'll have a clean stock rom.
I tried installing the 360 rom listed on http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Streak
I did name it update.pkg
It went through the installation phase but on reboot it doesn't get past the Dell Logo loading screen. Any suggestions?
On the screen where you choose upgrade from update.pkg, choose factory reset and see if that helps
Tried both..unfortunately, same end.
Is flashing recovery a required step prior to doing this..because I was unable to do that.
Also, Thank you for taking an interest. I really appreciate it.
yes, you need to have the recovery for the rom you are flashing (at least when it comes to stock roms). My understanding is that the pkg file is encrypted and the recovery decrypts it.
I'm going to try to start from scratch here. I am also assuming you are using a Windows PC.

Install them and reboot your pc.
Download MultiRecoveryFlasher from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000455
Extract it to somewhere on you pc where you can find it.
Now this hasn't been updated to include 360's recovery, but that's ok. We don't have to run the utility. It's the support files that are included that we are going to use.
Download the recovery.img for 360 (which I think you have already done)
Put the recovery.img in the root folder of MultiRecoveryFlasher. There should be other files in there such as fastboot.exe, adb.exe, etc.
Power down your phone and restart it in fastboot mode (hold down camera and power button together until you get a white screen. When fastboot appears in upper right, select it and plug your phone into your pc)
Verify the phone displays fastboot ready
Open a command prompt on your PC
Type in the following command: fastboot.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
Once that is done type in the following command: fastboot.exe reboot
Get ready to hold down the Volume + and - as soon as the screen goes black.
Now choose Upgrade from update.pkg
It should work now. If not, someone else may have to help you with another method such as QDL tool. I've never had to use that.
This is a screenshot of the problem i keep running into. i installed the drivers just as you said and am at the step with fastboot.

Any advice? Thanks again
im an idiot.
i got fastboot to run and send over the recovery.img
currently installing the update.pkg but its still stuck at the Dell Logo screen upon reboot. No idea what is going on.
FIXED. You're a miracle worker. Thank you so much.
Only problem I have now is an irritating sequence of flashing buttons every now and then. Have you had a similar issue in the past?
THANK YOU so much again!
Are you on a stock rom still? Or have you moved on to a custom rom? Typically the flashing led's happen when you are running a rom with an "incompatible" baseband, but that should be pretty near impossible if you are running a rom installed from an update.pkg rather than an update.zip.
running the update pkg off the wiki site.
Only other problem I've noticed is that I can't get it to root. I've tried gingerbreak and superoneclick..both of which worked flawlessly in the past.
Baseband GAUSB1A134700-US
KERNEL 2.6.32.9-PERF
BUILD 17397
I really want another crack at getting streakdroid, but the phone just isn't budging. Tempted to flash/install another rom but worried as heck that this same incident is going to come up. (the flashing lights started after i updated the AMSS and DSP last night--my first attempt at installing streakdroid 2.3).
Installing the stock rom via the update.pkg file will overwrite the amss and dsp1. That's the biggest difference to the end user on update.pkg vs update.zip. It's the actual recommended way to install a baseband. There are several firmwares, besides amss and dsp1, that get installed with a pkg.
Now that you have MultiRecoveryFlasher on your pc, installed StreakMod (custom recovery) should be a breeze for you. The only thing to watch out for is since you have a stock rom now, the first time it boots it will rewrite the recovery back to stock. Here is how to get around this:
Download the custom rom of your choice.
Place the zip file on the root of your sd card.
Get your phone back in fastboot mode
Using MultiRecoveryFlasher, flash StreakMod
As soon as the screen goes black for the reboot, hold the volume +/- keys.
Choose option 2 again, this time it should take you into StreakMod
Choose flash from update.zip
On the next screen, choose search for zip file (similar wording)
Choose the custom rom from earlier
Let it do it's thing.
Choose reboot system now
Again, as soon as the screen goes dark, hold Volume +/-
Now choose option 1 - Factory Rest
Let it do it's thing.
It should boot up now and your custom recovery will stay intact.
Let me give you some friendly advice: Streakdroid 2.3 is too much of a work in progress. Install one of the other Streakdroids, Longhorn, Simple Streak, or even my Streakin' 354. Play with it for a while and learn a little more before jumping into one that may not be as stable.
As far as rooting a stock rom, the preferred method is via superuser.zip. I'm not at home, so I don't have the file to upload for you, but its on these Dell Streak forums somewhere. You have to have a custom recovery to use it though. The custom roms are all rooted already.
Thank you for everything
No problem. Did you get it working?
Sent from my Dell Streak using xda premium
Absolutely and I couldn't have done it without you. If you had written out just one of the x number of tutorials out there, I don't think anyone would have run into the problems I did at first.
Streakdroid 191 runs like a charm---snappy and more responsive than stock ever was.
Glad to hear it...I was lost when I first started too. Someone helped me out and I just like to pay it forward. It's what makes this forum my favorite.

Hi again guys.. and mr lordmorphous!
im following what you told him (aaivazi)..
I'm going to try to start from scratch here. I am also assuming you are using a Windows PC.
Download the drivers from Dell. Here's the link:
http://support.euro.dell.com/support...&fileid=433681
Install them and reboot your pc.
Download MultiRecoveryFlasher from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1000455
Extract it to somewhere on you pc where you can find it.

Verify the phone displays fastboot ready
Open a command prompt on your PC
Type in the following command: fastboot.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
(im already here but this is what the command prompt says:
'fastboot.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.)
what should i do ?
