Softkeys stuck on dim - Nexus S General

Sorry if theres a thread on this already but all I have is my phone so bear with me.
For some reason my nexus s softkeys are stock on dim, they don't change with the brightness of the screen so its really hard to see them outside...any suggestions?

noone?....

They are that dim by design, AFAIK.

So when you go outside, you can barely see your keys?

Can someone please confirm or deny how the keys are supposed to act before I send this in to samsung

I have never seen them more brighter or dim, always just the same. However, on the G2 for example it was possible via kernel tweaks to make them more brighter or dimmer. I'm not sure if its possible for the Nexus S though.

A picture would help.

As far as I've seen they have only one brightness setting.

I am pretty sure, that that the dim keys where mentioned in some review, too.

Compared to a Galaxy S, they are indeed dim. Personally, i prefer it this way, makes it much less distracting when using it in the dark, and on bright days, i have no problems with finding the buttons.

Nexus 4 display and speaker

I usually keep my phones on full brightness. I'll deal with the battery draining because I love how it looks with full brightness. Has anyone noticed the display on the n4 kind of adjusting sometimes. I have noticed sometimes it changes to a little darker or a little brighter while using the phone.
I also noticed when I am talking on the phone with the speaker on sometimes it shuts when opening an application or sometimes even without opening an app and switches to regular ear piece. Sometimes it will stay on speaker but go lower.
Anyone having these issues? Its not a deal breaker or anything I still love it. I know phones will always have their issues, I've had ever nexus and the g1. I just want to know if other people are having this issue.

Its not auto brightness, my phone does the same thing. Its hardly noticeable but I find it strange too

My guess is glitch hardware. Lg is known for making inconsistent quality. Terrible QA. Just because its made in Korea doesn't means its better than in China.

I don't know how you can use this display on full brightness it's too damn bright! Strains my eyes. lol I tend to keep mine around the 25% mark
It's adaptive contrast, runs independent of your brightness settings and there's not an option to disable it. You probably notice it most when moving from a largely black screen to a white one.
I think I remember first hearing about it's use in a Galaxy S2 review, my TV does the same thing on its dynamic setting.

I didn't know this. Can you show me somewhere, where this is stated about the phone? It makes sense.

Dim notification light

My notification light is quite dim, is this normal? Seen a YouTube video and their green light looks much brighter than mine.

sounds like a personal problem
Yeah I think it is normal.
Yes, I am pretty sure it is normal. If you look closely you can see that the light is under a pattern that sort of matches the Google Now launch pattern.
I think its because of the glass being polarized. It actually creates a nice glow effect for the notification light in my opinion.

I actually prefer the dimmer light on the N4. Notifications were way too bright in my GNex IMHO.

Zero brightness.

Just got a Nexus 4, works perfectly except for when i slide brightness down to minimum the screen goes off. Like complete black. Is this supposed to happen or a hardware defect? I'm running rooted stock. The only way to fix it was to do a factory reset.

How Black is black. If this screen is completely black ie you cant read anything, in a dark room, then its a hardware defect. However the nexus 4 can really get dim and coming fro a gnex like you, it struck me too at first.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
It's dim, but you should still be able to read it in an entirely dark room.
Please provide a snapshot.
Plus, set auto brightness that to on the most minimal level and you are good to go.
Its pitch black. Ill show a picture soon.

It looks exactly like it does when off.

Nexus 7 Screen Calibration?

I'm sure this has been asked plenty of times but I figured I'd ask to get an up to date answer. Any news on possible color calibratin for the Nexus 7? I just got mine and while I'm really enjoying it the screen is badly calibrated. I'm not bother by the washed our colors as much as I am bothered but the high gamma/contrast. Anything bright seems over exposed and it hurts my eyes to set the screen brightness higher than 50%. Thanks in advanced.
Asked already and the answer is no. Calibration is apparently not supported by the GPU.

How can something so simple be so hard to obtain lol. Even my Nexus S had calibration capabilities through VooDoo sound. So disappointing lol. Ah well. Guess I'll kiss my retinas good bye!

[Q] Auto-Brightness Confusion

Can someone please explain how the auto-brightness works on this phone it seems to act a lot weirder than my galaxy nexus did. What does it mean when it talks about setting the baseline brightness and in what context? Do you use it? If so what brightness do you have it set to?
This phone has the worst auto-brightness of any device I've used.
I need to read the manual. I'm assuming the baseline is the minimum brightness, but it never seems to change when expected.
I chose to use a 3rd party app to manage it. Lux auto brightness works really well, and you can calibrate it any way you'd like.

I have mine set to 40% on auto. I found the best way to decide the minimum brightness was to set it at a comfortable level in a dark environment.
To test this, set up your minimum brightness, then point the screen (ambient light sensor) at a light source, keep your eye on the screen and it'll gradually brighten. I've found mine to work pretty well and rarely have to manually override it, but the change is a lot slower than my note 2.

Get lux lite from the play store. It works great

Comfortable in a dark room for me is about 5%, unfortunately even in the brightest of sun it seems like the phone never turns its brightness up at all when on auto like this. Anything less than 50% seems to break auto brightness for my device and that is just sad. Even when it works when set above 50%, it takes 5 seconds or so to adjust which is just terrible and the brightness seems to still act funny about how and when it decides to change. It really is the worst auto brightness ever.
Whoops!

Thanks for the recommendation guys that app seems to work sooooo much better than the stock auto brightness so far. The stock auto-brightness is garbage on this phone. Seems like the stock setting either doesn't get bright enough or doesn't get dark enough.
I don't agree, either I have a working phone or others are broke, but this is the best autobright performing phone I've every used, after the hd2, galaxy nexus, note 1 and note 2. Its perfect according to the ambient light situation and is really fast acting
