I've been using mine since December with no problems. I'm using T-Mobile as a carrier and been pleased with both my cell signal and GPRS coverage. However, as of about a week and a half ago I suddenly stopped receiving a carrier signal 100% of the time. I simply get the No Service indicator on my phone. The interesting thing is that when I know I'm in an area where I previously had coverage I can go into settings/phone and click the option to manually select a network and after the phone polls for a few seconds it will connect to the network and provide a list of carriers, in my case I see Cingular and ATT Wireless show up. So I know the hardware is working.
I've done soft resets, hard resets, even let the battery backup run dry and still no luck. I have a secondary cheapy Samsung GSM phone that confirms that my SIM is working as well as how strong the signal is, my XDAII just seems to be not wanting to connect.
Any ideas?
*Oh yes, I'm using the default ROM image that shipped with the unit as it's been working fine and I haven't wanted to risk any complications etc.
Thanks for your time,
-Graah
I'm curious to know if anyone with a non t-mobile g1 experienced the same.
My phone was working fine this morning until it stop being able to register on the network with the above error. The only thing I did with it this morning was to put on a screen protector. I doubt it's related
A reboot in recovery mode and a wipe fixed the network registration issue so I guess some data were corrupted.
Hi.

Just get a new sim card
I have the same problem now - but it is extremely frustrating and I have tried, since I first wrote what is below to downgrade - but cupcake will not let me.
I have an unlocked - but also unrooted G1. I use it in Europe and in the US. While in Europe I got the message to upgrade and without thinking I did. Then while in Europe I could no longer use the phone as a phone. The update went fine and I had ‘cupcake’ but any SIM I put in (T-mobile, BASE etc) there was no signal and when I went to do it manually I got the message “your SIM does not allow a connection to this network”
So I did a hard reset, but then I could not get pas the start screen since I had no data connection (but I did seem to have phone connection again.
In a layover in Atlanta I tried again - I was able to log in and set up and all was great and good. I should note that I have an old data plan and use an alternative APN to access data. This worked fine in Atlanata where there is 3g connection.
Back home no win Florida… no phone service - same as in Brussels. same message. Worth noting - there is no T-mobile 3G service where I live.
After thinking about this for a while I am wondering if somehow I did not get the correct or full radio update…
if this is true - do you have any idea how to remedy the situation or how I would know if this is the problem?
I appreciate any help.
I have the same problem, any news about this?
I had this issue randomly about a week ago. Reboots didn't work, and I really didn't want to go through a wipe/re-flash. I called T-Mobile, they had me reboot [after I told them I had already done it] --- they ended up deleting me from the network and reboot my phone again, which apparently re-registered me on their network.
This is on T-Mobile US (SW Ohio to be specific)
Does anyone has any news about that? I was told that this might be a radio issue, so I tried to downgrade my celphone to version 62.33.20.0H_1.22.12.29, (using fw 1.0 too), it worked for some time then suddenly it gave me the same error that my sim card it's does not allow to this network, so I forced, again, to my network and the same message appear, I tried this sim in another celphone and worked, I tried another sim on my G1 and it didn't worked, this celphone was working when I lived in the US, but here in Brazil it's not working just like there.. my guess is that the Radio in other countries has any bug, does anyone here was able to fix that? any further advice?
thanks.
weird, i have this issue tonight on one of my unlocked g1's that would normally be working on ATT.
I'll update this post if/when I find a cure.

I've been having the same issue of and on for a couple of months now with a G1 on Dutch T-mobile with dutch T-mobile SIM card, which is odd. Running CM mods so maybe the fact that i'm runnig non stock fw causes this?
I get this problem from time to time. Almost never around town where coverage is good, but when I'm on the road in a lot of places where coverage from any provider is poor this happens, especially if it keeps having to switch back and forth between roaming and not roaming. I even get this on T-Mobile and they are my provider. Usually a reboot fixes it, but not always. I've never had it last more than an hour though.
Try reflashing the radio on your phone. Sometimes this helps solve odd connection issues.

according to my tries, this isn't related at all. i'd like to check in on this thread and see a known fix instead of maybes.
Had the same problem
I had this problem about a month ago, apparently simcards can go bad after a while; I had the same simcard for 5 years and it became unreadable. I went to a t-mobile dealer, bought a new simcard for $20, and I was finally able to get my connection back. It's a bit of an expensive route, but at least I didn't have to replace the entire phone.

my att sim is 4+ years old, but works fine in all but one phone in question, with the above error. also, I have a brand new tmo sim that throws the same error, only on that one phone- which leads me to believe its not a sim CARD problem at all.
all my phones are unlocked, in case of weird problems with any gsm carrier.
Looking at your sig, is this one of the phones with gnav? Because some of the earlier techniques of installing gnav have resulted in a "no service" signal. If it is one of the phones with gnav, try pushing the old build.prop files back into the phone.

gave it a shot, used the normal build.trout... and same results. surely someone at tmobile is familiar with this problem ?
Same issue.
I am running cyanogenMod-4.2.12.2 with radio v. 2.22.19.26I on a t-mobile mytouch. I will lose service and the phone will not automatically reconnect to the network. When I manually select my network (wind mobile) it sometimes connects fine and sometimes I get a "your sim card does not allow a
connection to this network" error and must reset. I found this thread code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2845 where dozens of people running all different hardware (G1-hero) and all different software (stock cupcake, cyanogen, etc) all experiencing same problem. It seems this problem is happening regardless of the network (T-mobile, vodafone, orange & wind mobile). The problem seems to be happening through all different variables. Changing sims does not seem to fix it. Anyone have any ideas, this is very frustrating.
I've seen this issue as well, with the new Canadian provider Wind Mobile.
The issue seems to coincide with new towers being added onto the network. There are minor service disruptions that result in the network being temporarily screwed up. Going into and out of airplane mode seems to fix it every time.
Also note: These minor service disruptions do NOT ONLY affect my phone, but others (different brands) as well.
They've gotten better at adding towers without blowing up the whole network. It started out happening a few times every day. In the last week it happened only once.
Funny observation: When this happens, the DATA SERVICE recovers automatically, even though the signal gauge remains in X-no service mode. This part is probably android and/or dream related.
It is related with network
I've started to have the same issue tonight. I've rebooted several times and changed the SIM card with another from another operator but nothing helped.
Then i remembered that since I bring this phone from Belgium to Turkey, the regulations in Turkey requires the phone to be registered with its IMEI number to the telecomunications supreme board.
Altough i had initiated the registration process months ago, i thought that there may have been a problem with the registration, so i checked the boards web page.
It turned out that my IMEI is not registered and this most probably is the reason for the not allowed connection.
Tomorrow i will try to reach the board officials and i hope it solves the issue.
do you know what happened? i having the same issue right now and cant seem to find a way to solve it..
I have a mytouch currently running TheOfficial TMO US v1.7.1. It's been reflashed with the latest 32B radio. I've been having problems with the mobile network connection randomly dropping out, meaning it shows an "x" instead of any bars at the top. While in this state, it won't receive or make calls at all. I've tried unroooting, had the phone replaced by tmobile, gotten a new sim card, and still get this problem.
The most common time I see it is when I unplug the phone in the morning after leaving it charging all night. I'll glance at the screen, see it disconnected, and turn airplane mode on then off to reconnect. A few days ago, it happened in the evening and I'm guessing remained disconnected for about an hour, since I got a voicemail and didn't receive the notification until I did the airplane mode toggle later.
I don't know if this is a problem with the T-Mobile towers, but I don't think so since other phones don't seem to be running into this problem. Reception in this area is generally very good and I've never had this disconnection issue before over several different phones.
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? Any suggestions?
ETA: Sometimes I've tried going into the mobile network settings and running the carriers search, and it gives me the message saying the SIM cannot be registered on the network, then the message stops appearing after a minute and the phone connects just fine.

Most of these guys seem to be describing exactly the same problem I'm having. Are any other US T-Mobile users seeing anything like this? According to their coverage map I'm in a very solid voice + 3g data area.
In the meantime, I'm gonna turn off 3g for 3 or 4 days and see if these outages continue. I'll post an update in case other people run into this issue.
Another update:
After two days of trying "use only 2G networks" my phone didn't do this disconnection thing even once.
Something similar also seems to be posted as an android bugreport, although he doesn't go into the problem of "your sim card does not allow a connection to this network": http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2845
Another data point: a family member just purchased a mytouch today, on the same T-mobile plan but different line, and to try it out I set it up and watched it, and within 2 hours of being connected to the 3g network, it switched into the disconnected mode, and refused to register the sim card on the network.
So far, 3 phones, two different SIM Cards on two separate lines, and identical symptoms on each...
I will be trying an ./adb logcat at some point to see if I can catch the problem and complete that bug report.
For the record, I'm having this exact issue. Phone was fine for about 5 weeks, now I'm getting the same problem you describe. Any news or ideas?

Since I had my phone replaced for a faulty back plate, and the replacement phone having 0007 hboot fw - I haven't had this issue at all. Two weeks and counting.
Wife returned her phone under warranty for continuosly dropping signal and got supposedly reconditioned replacement handset back with 0007 hboot. This would seem to confirm this is the new default rom version.
Folks in U.S. on 0005 have confirmed they get the dropped signal issue, so I would also presume that between 0004 / 5 and 0007 a fix has been made.
See SPL thread.

2-3 Days ago the 3G on my HD2 stopped working. Since I've added a fair number of apps and mods I spent a couple days trying to fix the problem and finally did a factory reset. Still no 3G. I upgraded the newly released upgrade, no 3g. I called T-Mobile and a rep told me that this is a problem all across the US that started several days ago that effected only HD2 phones. Further she said that it was not all HD2s, just some of them. Specifically, she said, many HD2s stopped connecting to the internet and that my problem of no 3g is probably related to it.
I came to the forum to read about others having this issue, but I can't find a thread. Is anyone having the issue the T-Mobile rep described?
My HD2 has been having trouble connecting to the t-mo network after it has been on my wifi network overnight. I am prompted for credentials once outside the wifi. I've been able to get past this by using start menu/settings/connections/autodata config on the energy ROM i have running now.
I talked to two different reps about connection problems 5/26 and 5/27. Neither mentioned the outage you are talking about. The second rep told me I had to do a factory reset as my next trouble shooting step. Shortly after that I found the autodata config so I didn't do it.
Huh?
I don't encounter a single internet problem with my HD2 though mine has custom ROM installed.
Where are you located?
I wouldn't say there is a National outage at all
I am located in Little Rock, AR. However, the rep was very clear to me that people all over the US were encountering connection problems, that, it was specific to HD2, that it started 2-4 days ago and that did not affect all HD2s.
If you do not have any connection problems at all, then according the the Tmobile rep, your HD2 is not affected by the outage. As I said in my original post, my HD2 connected fine up to 3 or so days ago, when it abruptly stopped connecting. Honestly, I think the Tmobile rep did not know what she was talking about. The Tmobile rep is suppose to call me back today (5/29) to check if I was still having connection problems, so I am trying to validate whethter anyone else is having that same issue.
So, is there anyone who has these issues:
2-4 Days ago (May 25-27) your connection to edge and 3g abruptly stopped working.
Or, 2-4 days ago (May 25-27) your connection to 3g abruptly stopped working
There were not software changes that could have caused the issue.
Their may be short intermittent periods since the problem started where the connection to edge or 3d works (emphasis on the short and intermittent part).
Uprading to the newest ROM update from the Tmobile web site does not help.
Thanks,
John
I'm in Socal and have had not issues with data.
No problems here in Phoenix, AZ
No problems here in Salt Lake City - actually I've been having some decent speed today...
I'm in Utah and I had problems with the data connection on the 25th. It wouldn't turn on. I went through a long process with the tmobile rep, but when he told me I needed to factory reset my phone, I decided to wait until I had more time. The next day it was working again. Since then, my data has shut off several times, but I a able to turn it back on through the settings.
I haven't changed anything on my phone other then to add a couple of programs. No changes or additions within a few days of when the problem started.
I'm in NorCal with a 100% factory stock HD2 (with the newest updates.. or whatever).. my 3G is working fine (spotty as usual).
I am in Salt Lake City as well, and I always have problems connecting to the internet. What is really strange is when I woke up this morning, I was having troubles logging into windows mobile facebook. Half of my contacts had lost their pictures that are linked to the facebook account. Could this be the same thing?
Edit, I was connecting to the internet through my wifi at home. I turned it off and turned on the data connection and got 3G just fine. But it was weird because I was signed out of facebook and windows marketplace. I had to log back into those. I don't know what else might be affected. I also have 3G connection problems mainly at work. I went to a baseball game last night and couldn't connect to 3G while sitting on the grass behind the outfield. The whole baseball field is sits down in a little valley.

Try going into Settings and wireless control. Click on the Data Connection on the let to set it up....
Then just ok through all of the prompts and see if that brings it back. Happened to me more than once. That Rep has no clue. How could it only effect certain HD2's? Or any specific phone? It's just a glitch. You are using the 2.10 ROM right?
Yes, thankfully I'm not the only with the same problem, another coworker of mine has the same issue as well. I reside on Miami Beach, FL and for the last two days my phone has been unable to connect to the internet at all. My icon constantly stays on 3g and never switches to H. All my apps display the error message that they were unable to connect to the internet.
At first I thought it was my radio malfunctioning, but my coworker spoke to a TMOUS rep and he told him to update his phone to the latest version, but he is still unable to connect. I decided to update mine to the latest touch-extreme version and still nothing. My phone still brinks maybe for a second or two to H but then it comes back down to 3g.

Intermittent Data Outage on HD2
I and another friend are also experiencing the same issue here in Michigan constant up and down data connection on the HD2 I'm at the current ROM version that was released on their website actually the unit already had this version installed my unit is on only a week old during the second day of usage I contacted Tmobile a few times because of the data connection issue I finally got a rep who has an HD2 and was told it was affecting only the HD2 and some Android units I'm hoping it's not a bad chipset the only fix seems to power off then back on at some point I get my data connect back this issue does not affect my HTC PRO 2 another issue is the custom app Tmobile placed on the unit when calling 611 it pops up and displays info about your account etc.. the only problem is that it shuts down your speakerphone feature to fix this you have to soft reset the unit the Rep was aware of this issue also It seems the recent firmware upgrade does not address many issue yet. Seem like Tmobile is being to quiet with these problems. I have a few days left under the buyer’s remorse to return.
im in philadelphia pa this is the testing grounds for the hspa system and my hd2 devices jusmps between hspa and 3g depending on my enviroment havnt had any issuses with 3g but also i live a few blocks away from a tower ...
Tampa, FL - Me Too!
Problems with signal drops constantly on 2 brand new HD2's bought 1 week ago. Latest T-mobile rom and radio. I have not tried other roms/radio's yet, but will. It is very upsetting. I've tried a couple of setting configs found on some posts, but to no avail. Will be flashing roms & radios this week and see how things go from there.
New to T-mobile in my area so dunno if just coverage issue or HD2/T-mobile network connection issues. However, I live smack in downtown area where coverage is usually strong for any carrier and still have signal drops and fluctiations. Had no problems connecting to 3G in same areas with at&t. Also consistent drops around town as well on both my HD2's.
What radio are you all of you that are having good results using?
Maybe we should take a poll of what radio # people are having the most luck with?
I have had no issues here in Colorado Springs. I am still on stock firmware (2.13).
searched the forums with little info about my situation, other than that it seems to be happening to a handful of others.
havnt changed any settings or added apps or anything to my phone for several weeks if not months. i am using the cell evo v1 rom. 2.11.50.20 radio. i dont have a proxy server running.
for the last 2-3 days my location has only updated itself once. google maps cant find me, as well as bing. manual update does nothing. soft reset does nothing. wifi connect does nothing. i can get on the internet, sms, mms, etc etc.
i read on tmonews.com that tmobile was turning on HSPA+ in my region in the last couple days, along with 18 or so cities around the US, can this have something to do with my problem?
not sure what else to do...cant find any info.
thanks
I'm having this problem now as well. Been working on it for a couple days. T-Mo has had HSPDA+ here in St. Louis since before I got my HD2, so I don't think it's due to them adding it to your region.
Strange things I've noticed so far:
It works if Wifi is on, but not connected to a network.
It works if you are connected through EDGE, but not 3G or H.
The AGPS server IP address in the registry is a private network address: 10.something. If someone with a stock TMOUS rom can look in /HKLM/HTC/SUPD AGPS/ for the Server IP key and post the contents, I'd like to know if it's the same.
These issues are the same as everyone with different devices has been having for a while now, but the older phones with the issue seem to work in some areas without the wifi and edge workarounds, and not others. Mine so far works nowhere without the workarounds.
Try going into the manila slider and on the weather tab press menu > Enable my location
^ that isn't even an option for me on the manila slider anymore for some reason. I disabled the gsm and ran on edge and it was able to locate. as soon as turned gsm back on it wouldn't do it again.
bump, anyone?
Smartass answer in 3...2...1...
Maybe you should move to Denver. Colorado is beautiful this time of year.
Kidding aside, how about trying a hard reset?
from what i've seen on threads somewhat related to this, hard reset is a 50/50 shot. if i'm going do a hard reset where i would have to redo all of my settings and such, i'm just going to wait until the new version of the cell evo rom comes out. which is supposed to be soon.
i really dont understand what would cause this to suddenly happen. especially since it still works on edge. i tried wifi once and it didnt work, but i think i had my network connection still on. but regardless, this is pretty rediculous.
If you've traveled anywhere, your radio may be 'stuck' on a distant tower. This has happened on a couple of our phones and the tmo folks had to do a push/release/unstick type of signal to the phone. May be worth a try.
^ok, i called tmo tech support. mentioned about the possibility of sending me a reset signal, she said that was a possible scenario, but she was pretty confident that it was because my sim card is an older model sim card. claims that the sim card in my phone wasnt designed for 3g services, and any sort of change in the network (like them adding HSPA+ like i mentioned above) could interfere with the connections. she said the fact that i could do this on edge and not 3g is a dead giveaway that the sim card is the problem.
she said they are in the process of trying to get people to go to the corporate stores and switch to the latest sims. apparently this is happening to a lot of people, but the sim should be the fix.
i guess i'll shoot up there later on after work, or tomorrow, and i will give you guys a follow up on this.

Actually that does make perfect sense, and I suspect you'll find it clears up your problem. In fact, for anybody else that finds this thread, I suggest you try that step before other alternatives like hard-reset or ROM flashing.
yep, new sim card did it guys. i would recommend anybody having any connection issues to see if your sim cards are up to date.
edit: it was working before. now its only updating on edge again. not sure what to think or do. going to wait and see what happens when the new rom I use comes out.
any other ideas on this guys? new sim card only worked for a few hours. back to only updating 'my location' on EDGE and WIFI. pretty damn annoying. thinking about calling tmo support again to see if they'd send me a 'reset signal', but with having the new sim card you'd think that it wouldnt be a factor anymore, because i'd imagine it's already been reset.
the only other thing i could think of, and thats what tmo would probably tell me to do, is a hard reset. i'm sure they wouldnt be too happy with having a flashed rom on there either (not that i would tell them anyways).
if nobody has any other ideas but a hard reset, i'm going to wait for a couple days until the new release of the cell evo rom.
thanks
Yea. That weird problem hit my second HD2. I bought one 2 weeks ago and after your post paid more attention and of course noticed my location being Denver....
I deleted all preset locations and added custom one. It updated only once, right after location was activated....
However, wife's phone HD2 which was purchased on 3-24-2010 or original release date does not have that issue, ROM was updated to 2.13 a month ago or so...
Here you go...
Two of the same phones (supposedly), with the same stock ROM, with the SIM cards acquired about 5 years ago. One shows weather update without problem, second (newer one) has that dreaded nag....
I had a similar issue where the weather would only update once then freeze and never update again. All other 15 location updated but not my location. This was normal for stock and 2 roms, then I used energy rom and it now works. huh? Go figure.
Strange...I'm in St. Louis, as well...MO, that is...and it is working fine for me.
Try downloading the HTC connection wizard. This has fixed connection issues I've had before. I know Tmo has 3 networks to choose from MMS, Data, and Internet. I beleive you want data and may be your phone is selecting Internet.

ya that didnt work. either. still does it on edge though. the cell evo rom update will hopefully be here soon, if that doesnt fix it, the i'm not sure what to do.
I also have the problem of weather for my current location not updating (and the location not updating either). I have had the phone for almost a month and it updated regularly, although I noticed an occasional lapse for an hour or two. Following the suggestion by misticninja, I switched the band to Edge and I was able to update the location and weather. When I switched back to auto (3G), the update failed. It occurred to me that when I am in my basement office at home, I get Edge, not 3G. That may be why I got updates there. But I am sure it has updated in the past at my work location where I have very good 3G. Is this an HTC problem or a T-Mobile problem?

I'm having this problem ever since Tmo announced HSPA+ (4G speeds), but my sim is only 2mo. old! Is that an old sim?
You need to have your location enabled. Go to settings tab the location and then click on enable my location.
