Just thought I'd share and show what we may get in the future. So far the port has been made for the Galaxy S i9000 and Vibrant.
I saw that thread and meant to post it earlier, got caught up with something and forgot.
Sent from my QWERTY-ified, Gingerbreadless Nexus S 4g.
looks pretty sweet, there a few themes out that appear to be stable.
Galaxy S II... Sprint =(

Hi all, i am planning to sell mt my galaxy and get a htc android phone. Reason is the development is reall its slow for the galaxy s i9000. The vibrant has a lot of progress compared to the international version. Do you think galaxy s has a broght development future?

I wouldn't say the development really differs much.. The only real development I know that's being prioritised on the Vibrant is Cyanogenmod, and we'll get that soon after. There's also plenty of stuff that was developed for the i9000 first..
I can't find a froyo release for vibrant....
And for htc they are not any faster http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&...=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=72d3e32b142a26fd
Just read this : http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/15/...get+(Engadget)&utm_content=Google+Feedfetcher
Hoping our tab's will be getting something sooooooon.
Samung UK announced the SGS2 will be getting ICS in January. Hopefully the Tab won't be far behind.
Hopefully we'll see a port soon in the ROM's.
That would be amazing
I would love to see this touchwiz ICS ported
that is just what i am looking for
So this means.......We may be expecting a port for SGSII T-Mo / Hercules
They took the sexy out of ics....

Samsung has cemented its plans for the roll-out of Ice Cream Sandwich, and it looks likely to land on most of its top drawer Android devices. This (unsurprisingly) includes the Galaxy S II, its LTE variant, the Galaxy Note, the Galaxy R and whole range of Samsung tabs, from the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus to the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The update is penned to arrive first on both the Galaxy S II and Note in Q1 2012, with other devices following, although the Korean giant says that separate announcements will be made on the finer points -- depending on the "market situation and carriers' requirements". I for one, cannot wait for this - BUT to be honest, I am actually looking forward for a pure AOSP ROM of ICS on the Tab 10.1

From what they've implied, Touchwiz will mainly be support software for better hardware. It will fade as a UI.
waiting for it badly
I hope they roll out OTA a bit quicker than they've managed with 3.2.. Sure, we are many who know how to download a release to flash with odin, but that's still kind of a bother compared to just accepting an OTA ;-)
Honestly, with CM9 coming to the GT10.1, I really don't care about what Samsung is pushing (except, of course, the improvements it may bring to custom ROMs...).
As someone who owned two Samsung supported phones before my Nexus S (Moment and Epic 4G) how is Samsung with tablet support? My experience with them for phone support is that they have no clue what they are doing with software, always late with deadlines, and what they do send out is lackluster. Hence I grabbed a Nexus S since Google supports that.. I took a gamble with the tab..

They're getting the hang of the software thing, but they also add quite a bit of good stuff to their devices that you can't see. (codecs, drivers, etc...)
Hopefully what that guy ^ said is true and they don't focus on the UI at all this time.
So we will be getting ics after march as galaxy s2 and galaxy note will get it the first 3 months and only after that to the other devices ie galaxy tab
So my bet is still with cm9

I am completely with you on this one ! I am more excited about the AOSP ROM rather than the Samsung TouchWiz stuff !
Well the promise is up to q1 let see...

I would agree. We all know that wee gonna be running custom roms on it anyway.

I'm with you here. The support on the Galaxy S I had was lackluster, if it wasn't for custom roms I never would have kept that phone long.
Im waiting for the ICS ROMS for our tabs. I just got a beta ICS on my Mytouch and I'm in love.
Samsung just officially announced that there will be no ICS update for various android based phone from Samsung EXCEPT GS2, GS2 LTE, GS2 HD, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9.
Samsung also said that GS1 specially optimized for Gingerbread, so they can not update GS1 to ICS.
Some Korean users are in rage due to the fact that GS1 is strong enough for ICS.
And rightly so. no one's buying that, ever. Not only google got it running on nexus s which is pretty much the same phone as we all seen ports running great.
If they don't want to update an old phone its their prerogative but at least be honest about it.
Edit: just realized they never said sgs wasn't powerful enough, they just won't update it. I can understand the raging but can't help it if they aren't willing to do it...
I will never buy samsung phone again
why do not update galaxy s to ICS with have as more spec with Nexus S
Official? Source?
Besides that:
Nexus S = Google
Galaxy S = Samsung
It's in Korean. I will post a new post with translation.
Pretty much rules out any chance of us getting the update ever.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's because of the retarded filesystem Samsung locked stock users into. Regardless, it's a ****ty move by Samsung nontheless.

Because then you wouldn't buy a new phone. I suspect the file system was also a way for them to force you into buying a new phone. Planned obsolescence.
You have to wonder though, Samsung release a few phones with similar/lower specs to our phone such as the SGS+, and the Galaxy W, and their releases haven't had one year behind them. Will they really not update them?
I currently own a Verizon Galaxy Nexus and I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.1. I understand that it's easy to develop for Nexus phones because their drivers are open sourced or something along the lines of that. Throughout the year I've owned it, I've had next to no bugs running CM. With that being said, I'm in the market for a new phone and I was thinking about the S4. I know that it hasn't been confirmed whether or not the S4 will get CM but running touchwiz is not an option for me.
Assuming that it does get CM, can it be expected to run as well as a Nexus phone? I've ran CM on other phones like an HTC Incredible 2 and Droid 4, and they were plagued with bugs. I don't know if anyone had any experience with the S3, but I heard CM10 didn't run any better on that than it did on the Galaxy nexus.

Since you are Verizon you would be getting the 9505 with the Snapdragon chip, According to CM founder who recently left Samsung CM should run perfectly well on it:
http://www.sammobile.com/2013/03/25/founder-cyanogenmod-steve-kondik-leaves-samsung/
Whether we get full support for all the extra sensors in the S4 in CM is a different matter, but only time will tell on that front.
I am also a Galaxy nexus owner upgrading to S4 which hopefully arrives tomorrow.
CM on Galaxy device < CM on Nexus device.
You already answered your own question. Samsung keeps some of the drivers closed, the camera driver for example. If you are absolutely against touchwiz I would wait for the N5, or pick up a N4 on craigslist for cheap.
I came from 2 years on a Nexus S. Adjusting to Touchwiz is interesting, but I am embracing it. AOSP was getting boring. Touchwiz has improved quite a bit even from ICS...
