Was wondering if there are any different txt messaging apps, besides the default?
which also has the ability for attatchments.?
Thanks
I haven't used it myself, but a lot of people swear by Handcent SMS.
GOsms is what i use pretty nice
I have tried handsent not too bad but too much "bubbles" for me.
Are there any txt messaging apps that don't screwup the order in which messages are sent? What I mean by that is this:
When I send a txt to someone saying "hi, how are you" at 9:40am and I receive a reply a few seconds later, it shows up before my original message. Because both timestamps are at 9:40am, it displays them in alphabetical order (which is wrong)...
Allie - 9:40am - "good, u?"
Rob - 9:40am - "hi, how are you?"
I use Handcent SMS and I'm happy with it. No issues with the time stamps being out of order. You can customize the appearance, too.
How do u get rid of the bubble messages and have just a normal "list" type.
Settings - custom style - bubble settings - conversation style
Switch it to android.

I use handcent. It's pretty good. One thing that bugs me about handcent is that everytime I flash between different roms. I can never restore it. I've used tianium and astro and it would force close. What works for the best recovery when using handcent? For those of you who are using hc. Sorry, little of topic.
I've never had a problem between ROMS. Are you doing a full reset between? I just wipe the cache.

GoSms is what I recommend. I use the pro version, which is free in the market. Visually it looks like hanscent, But has more features. You can tailor it to performance or set it up with all the features/settings you want.

Go SMS
Go SMS is the best! They update a lot, too! Plus lots of personalization!

Does it have that feature to wake up the when you receive a new sms? If so, I might switch from Handcent
Handcent hands-down

Is there a way to have the new text messages move to to top on the list of text messages instead of scrolling threw all of the messages and looking for the ones with dots next to them
that is actually a Froyo 2.2 issue on the x after the move to froyo "supposedly" an OTA fix update is on its way out soon to adress the issues the X has after the 2.2 OTA update
only way i've found around it (until its fixed by moto) is to use a diff sms app. I use handcent and set the recieved message offset to -4.
I used to use Handcent, but there's so much overhead for that app that it runs so slow. I used it for months...then one day accidentally opened my native text app to find it was blazing fast! Never used Handcent again...

My stock messaging app stutters visually, and takes a good grip before it does anything. Handcent has never given me an issue.

When did this happen? Handcent use to be HORRIBLY slow for my X but in the last 2 months all the updates have made it alot faster.
Is there any way to go back to the way it looked before? (text in bubbles)

Gingerblur deletes the Moto messaging app and replaces it with the stock android one. The two ways to get back to bubbles that I know of are to go into the .zip bloatware file and find what you're looking for, or you can download a third party messaging app (I recommend Handcent) that will do it for you.
That's great app, thanks.
Go SMS Plus is a great alternative as well.

+1 for Go SMS
YUP -- I tried both Handcent and GO Sms based on the referrals in this thread. I must asy.. GO SMS PRO was the handsdown winner... very customizable, fancy transitions, ease of set-up, no lag, and fast sync with my facebook contacts. Good stuff.
So I've spent the past week flashing different roms trying to figure out the issue and the only thing I can figure is sense based roms cause my text order to be out of order. The incoming texts show up before the sent text in the thread. I've tried stock messaging app as well as alternate sms apps and still the same thing. My wife is on stock non root and has the same issue.
Put CM7 on my phone yesterday and ran it all day and all my texts showed right..I first thought it was maybe a carrier issue in my area but why would CM7 work right when sense doesn't....
I'm at a loss on a fix and my wife wants a fix too lol...anyone have any ideas?
Fixed my issue...finally hit me on what I could try and it actually worked...so stinking happy!

I had the same issue with an AOSP rom. weird. I believe it might be one of the 3rd party widgets (not messaging apps) such as the sense widget or the launcher pro sms widget. first I thought it was my theme, reflashed still no go. so I wiped and reflashed then found out that if I clicked on a friends name from the launcher pro sms widget and sent a message it would be out of order for instance when he texts and I reply my reply would go BEFORE his message...
If not the widgets my second theory could be the kernels...
quick fix. just restart your messaging app and delete all the threads.
I tried everything and the only thing that worked for me was putting the vanilla android mms.apk on instead of sense mms.apk
Although the vanilla messaging app likes to force close on composing mms
I'm running CM 7.0.2, and my MMS messages still don't send. I've tried using the stock messaging app as well has Handcent. Any ideas? I don't send many, but when I do I'd like it to work
Try uninstalling handcent, when I first flashed CM7 that what I had to do.

looks like that might have fixed it. thanks!
I seem to have the same issue but I've never installed handset or any other 3rd party messaging app.
Edit: omg still cant get used to autocomplete... didn't realize my post was riddled with typos to the point of nonsensicalness.
Currently on 54.zip (or maybe 55), I forget. To scared to update to the newer ones due to bootloop issues.

Cool, seems like the stock messaging app is almost like handcent anyway except you cant customize it like handcent.

I too have been using HANDCENT since my HEROC days and i never have any problem whatsoever.
I am currently on CM7, the latest version and I could say that sending and receiving MMS works just fine. I have to say though that the sending part takes longer than usual at times. I am thinking that it could just be your network signal being weak, thus the taking forever to send happens...
When in doubt, clear cache and force close manually...
Have you guys tried the gestures in stock messaging? Very cool and useful.

I use GoSMS Pro as my default SMS app. Works great, looks great, is great.
Except for one issue:
People are receiving my messages twice.
I use the Quick Reply function very, very often (and I know that most people have this issue solely while using this feature.)
Does anyone have a fix? I'd like to continue using the app and the Quick Reply feature, but it's a little embarrassing to have people receive my messages twice.
Thank you.
You need to uninstall the stock messaging app using titanium backup text messaging is the name of the apk. Then uninstall Go SMS Pro, and reinstall it. Done
Won't that get in the way of future updates?
Can I freeze the stock messaging app instead?
Sorry, new to android here lol.
try it and see what happens (freezing) worst case you defrost it.

Don't uninstall the stock app as it may prevent you updating in future. Freeze instead so you can thaw when a new update comes out.
I think the latest update said they fixed that issue. Are you running the latest one?
mine works fine
Mine works fine I'm using it on top of ginger blur 3.1

I had the same issue (GingerBlur 3.1) got to the point where I had to just go back to stock. Though handcent worked quite well.

I can't say I'm a big fan of handcent, and I am running the newest version.
The people who complain about this problem are saying that it's a hit or miss. Sometimes they come in twice (but often, multiple times a day), and sometimes they don't.
It's gotta be a problem with the popup window.
