Just received a notification from ASUS that a new update is available.
I currently do not know what the changelog is and as I installed the previous update without rooting, have decided to update, will let you know any differences/improvements noticed.
Further to the above, just went back to my transformer to check the progress and not sure if anything has changed. When I went back to see if the update had completed, there were no notifications to say anything has completed.
I have tried to run an update check again and it says there are no available updates, however I have noticed that the Build number reads :
HR166.WW_epad-8.2.3.9-20110423
Can someone let me know what their build number reads and if its the same, the above number suggests to me that it has changed because fo teh date at the end.
there is already a changelog thread, it's right below yours, please post there instead.
Thank you.
Sorry did not realise, Mod, please delete.

I noticed that there is an SE update that was made available mid to late February. as far as I can tell (but running the update software utility from SE) I do no have the update on my phone purchased in late February. Questions are:
1. How can I be sure if I have the update or not (version numbers somewhere, etc)?
2. What is the benefit of the update?
3. If I update, is it a "flash" requiring me to reinstall everything and redo all my settings?
Thanks for helping a noob,
Ian
1. How can I be sure if I have the update or not (version numbers somewhere, etc)?
check version number, the new version number is A2***
2. What is the benefit of the update?
It's faster, a google today plugin is available and some other little new things
3. If I update, is it a "flash" requiring me to reinstall everything and redo all my settings?
yes
Well, i tried to update it using the SE utility, but it keeps hanging on "detection in progress" for 20 minutes +. I've done it two times with the same result. I'm using vista, if that makes a difference. I'll try to find some instructions on how to do it mannually, using a card or something.
any suggestions?
well,
I've not had any luck finding out how to manually update to newer firmware release from SE.
anyone care to share the secrets?
Please read the stickied threads.
After spending quite a bit of time reading through the stickies, i read through pages and pages of these threads:

I didn't find a clear answer, but I followed a hunch and disabled "connects via usb" for my device in the Windows mobile device center" and then the update was able to process correctly.
Just figured I'd put it here in case someone else is on a similar hunt, maybe i could save them the time.
I tried different machines before I sorted the connectivity problem to establish connection to my device until finally my PC can recognise my device.
Now comes the next headache, after getting the connection established I clicked on firmware upgrade - it came up and displays some updates are available -
it shows my current version as:
(PDA)JE9/(Phone)JE9
available update as:
(PDA)JF4/(Phone)JF4
When clicked on 'proceed' - it brings up some warning for me to make sure they are fixed before I proceed further like power cables connected and some warning of not removing or doing anything during upgrade, after I check 'agree' it starts the download by letting me know that the binary files for the new firmware is being downloaded and after the dowload there seems to be a wait creating impatience for us as to what next...after a few seconds I can see the message above the progress bar saying that the upgrade process has begun..
I can see the screen on my SGS display come with the android logo on some work (like road construction work) and the message telling upgrade in progress do not disconnect...it stays in that state for around a minute...no progress in the progress bar....Now suddenly the PC says 'failed to convert to upgrade mode, try later' and even after stopping my phone continues to show the frozen screen with 'upgrade in progress' (getting us confused and scared and dont know if I can unplug - will this brick my device all sorts of question) until I shut down my SGS and reboot to see it is normal as before but whenever I connect for the firmware upgrade all that I know is I am pending new upgrade.
I am stuck and can't proceed further - I tried it many times with many machines no luck. Please anybody suggest a way out.
Some info on my device: Bought in UK, sim free phone from Singapore Singtel as I see the operator's animation in the startup screen.
Other details on firmware:
PDA:I9000DXJE9
Phone:I9000DXJE9
CSC:I9000OLBJE9
In the settings 'About Phone' carries details:
Version: DXJE9
Kernel: [email protected]# (does this mean the device is rooted already?)
I have another question since I saw somebody mention in another thread that whether he/she should do a european firmware upgrade or asian firmware upgrade - I still confused by this question as well, which upgrade will be pushed to you if you are using Kies as it is just one same application made available for download globally.
somebody please help me with the upgrade issue.
isn't there any dev who can help me on this, it looks like i am the only one experiencing this!!!
I don't think many people are getting the upgrade options via kies at the moment.
I'm not seeing it on UK JF3
so hope, there isn't an issue with my device. I am weary because this was purchased from an online site but purchased the device after checking it personally.
One more question, will an unlocked phone get locked after any new firmware updates?
Are sim free and unlocked phones follow different philosophy ie., after unlocking a phone does that become a sim free phone forever.
Second question, how does the OTA update work - if you are not tied to a service provider - does samsung send these directly to all sim free phones automatically, looking and searching for IMEI numbers? and will a rooted phone be allowed to upate to froyo or any official update (for example) via the official Kies?
thanks
There isn't any offical firmware updates, via Kies, and or any other method.

Pls dont give wrong information. If you are suggesting something make it elaborate and clear.
I have clearly mentioned that I can see my current version as: (PDA)JE9/(Phone) JE9
Update available version:
(PDA) JF4/(Phone) JF4
thats what is displayed via Kies. I am also aware from this forum that some people can see the update whilst others dont see any.
Having said that, I was asking a techy questions as to whether a OTA upgrade or a upgrade via Kies from Samsung still happen if the phone is rooted and also if the phone is sim free and not attached to any service providers will the OTA upgrade will happen if so, is it based on IMEI number that will automatically be tracked OTA.

I was wondering if anyone found a solution to this problem? I am having the same problem.
I'm looking at this also.
after following this: (oh great, can't post links)
I had a problem updating to the official Foyo via Kies.
Finally got my PC to recognise the phone then started the update.
Phone screen went all green part way through and nothing was happening for about 20 mins so unplugged.
Phone would switch on but came up with a little picture on the screen and thats it.
so got it updated to JPM by booting into download mode and using odin. Took 5 mins once I downloaded all the files.
Hi sorry running into some problem once again
Device is not rooted, trying to update it seem
keep downloading the 387mb and give me "invalid update "the system update is invalid and has been canceled.
the cycle repeat itself, getting pretty annoying.
Model number A500
android version 3.0.1
Knerl version 26.36.3
build number: Acer_A500_1.139.05_COM_GEN1
Country:Ontario, Canada
trying to system update 4.010.38
I am not technical at all, don't want to root nor manual update.
Also i keep getting lock up whenever after i wall charged, once i use the open power to pop the screen up, the multi-touch fail to respond i can't unlock the screen until i force reset but it will rotate as normal.
Is it me or this thing is already broken ?
Thanks.

I had the same problem tonight.
Fixing the "Invalid Update" Problem .......
I recently had exactly this problem when the 3.2 OTA upgrade was released. After two failed attempts at downloading and installing the 3.2 update, I gave in and contacted Acer Telephone Support. The support person kindly emailed me the following instructions. My A500 was using a standard 3.1 ROm, but had been rooted. I did not need to un-root it to install the 3.2 OTA update - however, I did of course loose root access after the upgrade.
Invalid Update Problem solved !!!!
Dear Customer,
Please try to download the update again after performing the following:
1. Please go to Settings > Application > Development > enable Stay Awake.
2. Please go to Settings > Screen > Timeout > set the value to 30 Minutes.
3. Plug in your charger.
4. Proceed to download the update either via restarting the tablet or check System Update under About Tablet.
Please also ensure the tablet has more than enough power and good wifi signal strength during the updating process.
This should enable you to download and install the patch as normal.
If you are still unable to install the update after the steps above, please provide all the following details so I can assist you further
1. The SNID of the tablet.
2. The build number of the tablet(you can find this in the About Tablet Section)
3. The size of the update file.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter, I look forward to your reply.

Thank you for sharing this! I had the same problem with updates, but following these instructions I updated my honeycomb 3.0 Iconia tab a500 to Honeycomb 3.2.1
In order to update to ICS, you need to install an updater app from official Acer website. Then simply run update check and you will see your ICS update.
Downloading right now, hope everything will work fine
People don't seem to realise, you need to have the acer tab attached to the wall charger or it won't do the OTA updates...
I bet the few who have the updates fail and brick their device have had them plugged in and disconnect them part way through the flash...
Not sure why Acer requires the power plugged in as the tabs aren't(or so I've been told) actually charging...
Just a quirk of Acer perhaps...

Setting - about phone - check for updates
Hello,
Lately my Lg G2 received a software update, but the Android version remained the same.
I did get a pop-up window right after the installation but accidentally closed it.
Is there a way to view this message again? I want to know what updated.
Thanks
