2.3 rom force closing issues - EVO 4G General

All 2.3. ROMs I download when I use the calendar and a few other programs force close. I have wiped using format all and tried a few different ones. This just started recently. I have older ones that I have nand backup that work perfectly. Its just any new ones I try.

Forgot to mention I did fix permissions

Forgot to mention these roms are in BETA.
So let us know how it works out for you when the official stable release comes knocking.

This market issue is annoying already, is there a fix for it?

Ok I know im not the only one to experience this but it happens ALL THE TIME NOW. Whenever I get an update or want to download a new app. It downloads then when it gets to 100% it just stays there!! Then I have to click cancel and keep trying till it finally installs. And all those downloads that didn't install the apk goes into your downloads folder on your SD card. This seems to only happen with ALL the extra kernels. Im just wondering if there is an easy fix that I've overlooked cuz I have checked everywhere and just can't find one. Thanks ahead of time for any help with this.

I've experienced this a few times but not consistently. Has this happened on multiple roms or just one? If you haven't already, I would go into Applications and force stop the Market, Clear Cache then reboot. You could also try flashing the latest gapps found in the CM 6 RC 2 thread.

Yes this has happened on multiple roms, ONLY after a flash a oc kernal though. But thx I will try that.

Acore force close

Everytime my contacts try to sync with SNS I get android.process.acore to force close. What would be a good fix? I am running Blackhole 2.4 with the voodoo lag fix. I would like to upgrade to 3.0 but I haven't flashed the dl09 modem since I currently do not have computer access. Can I upgrade to 3.0 while on the lagfix and if so how? I believe that using rom manager doesn't work. Thanks for all the help.

Not sure about the blackhole rom, but on my stock rom, something similar happened when I disabled the Touchwiz launcher by renaming the apk file. Did you remove Touchwiz?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I was getting process.acore FC's on almost any rom/kernel/modem I tried that was aftermarket, when I had the phone setup to sync facebook/twitter/myspace automatically. I got rid of them finally by setting facebook to once a day, and twitter/myspace to never automatically do it. Now it never happens.
I talked to some devs re: this, and they think it's because all the aftermarket ROM's use the mesmerize's contacts list and have parts of touchwiz removed. It's likely to not work right on any aftermarket ROM as a result since they're all based on jt's original clean ROM that did this.
Personally I found the above work around to be "ok" for me, and will likely try sync again once I switch over to CM 2.2.1 or Gingerbread 2.3, which I have a feeling won't have the issue since they're AOSP based.
if you remove tw acore will fc put tw back in to fix
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
when you went through to choose what you want on the "build your own rom" you must have forgotten to include one of the choices that were "Required for SNS".... I found that when you leave one of those things out, you get acore force closes. Hope this helped

major lag (very annoying)

I love my galaxy s but have one annoying problem with it...
When I click on the home button, it takes about a second for the screen to turn on. This is extremely annoying as you can imagine. I expect the screen to turn on from standby immediately... When it is on charge it will turn on immediately.
This problem is very noticeable... is anyone else experiencing this?
Are you running stock rom? The Samsung 2.1 and 2.2 are notoriously laggy. Get lagfix or flash a custom rom and your system will zip along
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i'm on a custom rom and i've got the same problem...
I found darkys really sped my phone up that runs voodoo lagfix. Currently running CyanogenMod 7 which is still beta but I've been running it for a week with few probs (just dont install the 0312 version it unmounts your SD cards) the 0311 nightly with the bilboa kernel of the same date is good, flashed the 0317 CM7 today and that runs well.
Cm7 is super smooth and fast, try it
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i'm now on miui, the fact is that this is still beta, but with CM7 it should be working really smooth and fast... maybe it's because of some wrong kernel or something, i don't know, i've got his problem since i moved on to 2.3, even when returned to 2.2.1, the lag was still there :/
Really? I've never had that problem. When things go wrong for me I usually flash stock froyo with Odin then reflash custom and all is well. You using mambos MIUI? That's not even alpha is it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
beta 4 right now when i moved back to stock froyo it was even more laggy than bofore, i flashed miui on this froyo and the problem is still there, of course it's not as laggy as on stock JPY but i hate the fact that it is there, no matter how small it was
Seriously mate I don't think that MIUI ROM is even close. They don't have any of the source so its a bodge. Try flashing stock then flashing back to Cm7 and I'm sure you'll be fixed
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Thanks for the replies guys.
I used to run Darky's all the way up to 9.3. I was happy but saw someone else's galaxy s which seemed to switch on immediately and I wanted that. So in attempt to fix it I went to the Ultimate rom... At the start it seemed to have done the trick, but now back to normal. Laggy standby turn on
yea, i know you're right, but when i first flashed miui i fell in love with that rom, for me it's perfect even with so many bugs i hope they'll deal with them soon and then i will have the most perfect of all perfect roms ever
hm that's weird for me, when i had ultimate everything was ok, but maybe if i would have it little bit longer it would be the same situation as you had
I've not tried ultimate. Darkys is solid but Cm7 feels right somehow, real gingerbread smooth and fast. I loved the MIUI music player on Darky s and would like it back on CM 7 but at present its stable enough for me. Preferred the stock Samsung camera app though. Wish we could get that in cm7
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
can't you take the camera.apk from stock and put it into the cm7? i'm not sure if it can be done but i think i might work
No I don't think cm7 will run any Samsung apps as its based on aosp and all the Samsung apps are tied to ****wiz. The devs could tell you more but I think that's why

What are you ****tin on about? MIUI is stable enough to use as an everyday rom. Most bugs are share across CM7 and MIUI as MIUI uses CM7 base. It's a closed source meaning they don't openly share the code with the public and non-MIUI developers.
So anyone know why this lag is happening? A certain app maybe? I've had it with Darkys and Ultimate...
Really? I might give it a try - but do the MIUI apps work? Last I checked they didn't. No point having MIUI without their lovely apps, is there?

Have you tried entering 3-button recovery mode to format the SD card, clear cache etc etc. Installed a particular program right after you flash? Have you changed the animation speed from slow to fast?

Most of their apps (at least in the rom) work.
You can just install on top of CM7 and then uninstall if unhappy. Just make a backup first
Will clear cache delete any of my files?

Well I will give the MIUI a go over the weekend (not risking it now need phone for work tomorrow) and see for myself. I've tried several ROM s and keep flashing back to CM 7. Just wish that we could get a new bilboa voodoo kernel for this 0317 build because it seems the best yet. I was taking photos today for work on the 0311 build and the camera was glitching like hell, downloaded the latest build and the camera was fine, there's progress right there

[ROM]Blackhole Thunderbolt 2.0 Now on Rom Manager (6/8 Release)

*WARNING* The leaked Gingerbread Radio, which is required for this rom, has been known to brick some Thunderbolts. Be sure you're aware of the risks of flashing this software by visiting this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1096104 *WARNING*
*NOTE* There is a new GB radio out now at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115714 *NOTE*
Standard disclaimer:
While no Custom Rom can ever claim to be completely safe, and the very act of rooting your phone voids your warranty, I do my best to make sure that any Rom I release is fully tested. That said, if something does go wrong I am not responsible for loss of time/money/data/sanity/limbs/life that results directly or indirectly from the use of this Rom. Please enjoy responsibly.
This requires the leaked Gingerbread radio and a Gingerbread kernel, which can be found here:
Radio: http://www.multiupload.com/HU471CMQI0 (thanks Adrynalyn) Download this and rename it to PG05IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard, then reboot your phone to the bootloader and apply it.
Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1086518 (Thanks Imoseyon) Download your choice of kernel from the SENSE GB section.
First I'd like to say thanks to Adrynalyn, ThatDudeButch and Trident for making most of the following patches easily available, and a huge thanks to JCase (TeamANDIRC) for the leak:
Features:
Wake on Volume (thanks TeamBAMF)
Netflix Support (thanks rmk)
Removed recent apps from pulldown (thanks rbox)
Power options (thanks ThatDudeButch)
AOSP Lockscreen
Deodexed, Rooted, Mostly stock framework.
Very clean Rom (149MB base vs ~300MB for most others)
This is a stock experience rom, with all the bloat (and most of the stock apps) removed. If you haven't used Blackhole before the idea is to start with an almost blank slate (except for the stuff that's too intertwined to remove, or provides basic functionality) and add only the things that you want.
What apps I left in are stock (Browser, Gmail, Calendar, Phone, etc.) plus a few "essentials" (Superuser and Rom Manager).
Updates will begin being available in Rom Manager on Wednesday following the public release of the Rom, but in the meantime if you have apps you need added please let me know and I'll make an update.zip for you that will add whatever you need. Enjoy! And be glad that unlike some developers I didn't have the urge to put "Ginger" in the Rom name, or else you'd have ended up with "BlackGinger" or "GingerHole" neither of which is very appealing...
Download:
Available via Rom Manager, so you can choose your options while downloading.
Screenies ?
Any chance of AOSP contacts/dialer, MMS, gallery, and browser? Going to give this a go when I get home tonight. Heck, might even flash it at work.
EDIT: Nevermind....just saw that almost all of this is already included. Awesome work! I'm downloading now and going to try it out.
IRS421: I'll post some up later the afternoon/evening
litso: Dialer/contacts and Browser are a work in progress. When I find/make one that works I'll add it to the options.
sorry if i missed the screen shot links...
please make them more blatant?
+1 for AOSP Contacts, please

Seeing as he links to the new radio in the OP I'm guessing it's probably ok. Still subject to the same issues people are experiencing on other ROMs though.
Thanks for the reply litso, I didn't have time to get on last night. Yes, both leaked radio's work the same with Blackhole as with any other GB leak Rom. I'm uploading some screenshots now as well, don't expect too much tho, it's a vanilla theme. For the screenshots I'm running Launcherpro.
I vote ya call it BlackGingerHole
Getting FCs from Google Music (the new one).
I chose to have it installed with the ROM, but this morning when I went to play a track, I got an FC. I rebooted, still FC. I ".bak'd" the .apk from /system/app and installed the Market version. Now I'm getting periodic FCs on the music process, and instant FC if I try to open the app.
Sync Music was added to my Google Account settings.
Ideas?

Thanks for the report, I'll see what's up.
Also I've got my screenshots sorted, they're up in the OP. Like I said, nothing special about how it looks....
I installed it also after a clean wipe and used sense launcher and now my launcher looks ****ed up. Rebooted to see if that would fix but no luck

I've duplicated the sense issue, though i'm not sure what the issue is at the moment. I've removed it from the list of options until I get it fixed. Thank you for the report.
So far i've been unable to duplicate the issue with google music, could you please provide me with a logcat of the crash? Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
I've tried flashing several boot animations from ROM Manger, but I always end up with the AOSP Android animation. Any idea's why this might happen?
Sure the battery have percentages in the status bar icon?
also, its there a way to get r rid of the quick settings on the dropdown and have the power mod toggles?

I'll give it a whirl. Do you have the gmusic online service? I do, just wondering if that might be why you're not getting an FC.

[Q] Looking for a Swype-friendly ROM

After a year and a half of ownership, I finally rooted my DX today. (Well, I rooted it several months ago, too: the day before the Gingerbread OTA update...so I took that and lost root.)
I have CM7 on my rooted Nook Color, so I wanted to try something different on the DX; I chose Liquid (Gingerbread) 3.2. I like the ROM a lot, but no matter what I've tried (have spent the last 2 hours Googling and experimenting), I can't get the latest Swype Beta to actually function. It installs just fine, I can poke at it in the Keyboard option dialog, but it doesn't actually get selected.
So, first part of my question is, has anyone gotten Swype to work with Liquid 3.2?
Secondly, what Gingerbread ROMs do allow Swype Beta to actually work?
Thanks in advance!
Make sure the check mark is on the keyboard in
Settings>Language & Keyboard.
Then on any text-entry window...long press the window until "input method" comes up.
I've ran the Swype beta on liquid... No problem...
And you can get the beta to work on any rom...
If it's a rom with it already installed... All you have to do is uninstall Swype then reinstall your beta...
Maybe try clearing data for it if it's not selecting
We have nothing to feat but running out of beer
Yep, I have the beta. Nope, it would not work on Liquid 3.2, no matter where I selected it (there are at least 3 places you can enable it, and I tried all 3—several times!).
At any rate...got Vortex RC installed, Swype worked just great, and there are some things about it I prefer to Liquid, so I think I'll be sticking with it for awhile.
Thanks for the replies!
Depending on the ROM, you might need to follow the same procedures that are necessary to get the beta working on the stock ROM.

As I said above, I got it working fine in Vortex. If I hadn't, however, it would have been helpful to have provided at least a link to how to get the beta working on the stock ROM.
Tough to do through the xda app.
BTW, I got it working in Liquid.
