I'm just sayin' I could use a heaping helping of froyo
i can smell it now
hopefully froyo drops soon with the gps fix. just picked up my vibrant yesterday and the gps is a little wonky, but it has been very accurate at times too. usually only locks onto 1 sat, with about 11 in view. don't really use it enough to worry about the fix, and i'm too busy playing with the rest of the phone.
seems like a keeper, but thankfully i bought the handset outright so i have 30 days to make my final decision. hopefully froyo drops sometime soon

Let's hope not... Froyo is frozen yogurt.
^lol, i cant wait!
Is there any news on whether the Samsung update for 2.2 will include a performance fix for their use of RFS for their filesystems? I can't see the abandoning the technology, and I'm holding off on applying the ext[2-4] fix for myself until after the OTS update.
I know I could use some frozen yogurt in this texas heat, haha.
After being told September for so long I am growing anxious now that we are in September.
someone call tmo and ask!!!
Not really looking to update right away. Im preatty happy having Vibrant7 rom, 1.2 oced kernel and mobileap tethering.

I second that - 2.2 may restore everything back as before Lag Fix. Right now, I am happy at 3Mbps download speed, and Wireless Mobile AP feature with around 2Mbps download speed. Also, i don't count on expecting the upgrade from Tmobile, unless u got an HTC phone like Nexus One (my son got one, and constantly got OTA updates). Samsung and Tmobile are famous for false promise and tons of BS answers from CSR. Don't call and waste your time. In the mean time, do learn and bring your Vibrant up to speed so you can enjoy it.
I have Ryans lag fix and a bunch of deleted bloat ware apps. Once froyo comes out will all that be erased?

Wow, people are still stuck in the past? Behold != Vibrant.
Oh, Nexus One is a developer phone. OF COURSE, it's going to get the updates first and fast.
I just hope Froyo gets the ring to Mordor sometime this month...har har =D

It's only 18 hours into the month (CST), give it some time people. Even if it were released today, right now, this exact second, it would still take some time to get rolled out OTA - you can't push a large update like that to ALL your subs at the same time. That's a great way to crash your network.

i have been wondering the exact same thing. I asked it several times here in this thread, but cannot get an answer... let me know if you hear anything. Here is where I have asked it 2 or 3 times without much response

Hey,
Just ordered mine from Orange for £79.99 a bargain if you ask me!
Sorry to start yet another thread but I have a few questions!
Anyone unlocked this to 3?
Any major issues with it once rooted with CM7?
Does it have wifi hotspot option?
Can the CPU be clocked?
Anyone tried removing the Orange branding on the back?

Anyone unlocked this to 3? "Yes"
Any major issues with it once rooted with CM7? "Best bet is to flash and try i'm still using 2.2 as don't find CM7 stable enough for everday use"
Does it have wifi hotspot option? "Yes on 2.2 is available and using now over 3 network"
Can the CPU be clocked? "Yes and running @ 690Mhz some people can go higher"
Anyone tried removing the Orange branding on the back? "Get an android sticker form ebay search android sticker will see the one as says covers SF"
Have fun with new device for the price there very good handset
Personally I've found CM7 almost ready for everyday use, few niggly bugs but try it out. Also if you need unlock code and guides to rooting check www.orangesanfrancisco.co.uk

Yes I have unlocked and using my wife's on a 3 contract. just use the ZTE Black Unlock APK really really easy
Any major issues with it once rooted with CM7?
No issues at all works great I would not recommend installing apps to the SD that comes with the phone as it seems to slow everything up. (We were use S2E from the market), oh only issue is the wifi wake issue but intstall Blade WiFi fix from the market and you will have no issues
Does it have wifi hotspot option?
Yes CM7 has this by default
Can the CPU be clocked?
Yes don't expect miracles, we managed 710mhz max stable what ever you do don't set it to boot at the speed until you are sure its stable as you will have to reinstall from a backup if you do
Anyone tried removing the Orange branding on the back?
No, to be honest you kind of forget its there, it does feel slightly raised I wouldn't risk trying to get it off
This is the really nice guide I followed to root and unlock the phone really easy
www.chrislowthian.co.uk/how-to-unlock-de-brand-and-root-the-zte-blade-orange-san-francisco/1824/
Ok done all the above, no problems at all, my blade does feel somewhat laggy though, not much diff to Orange branded OS, I didn't expect the smoothness of my DHD though, not sure if pumping my CPU to 750mhz and locking up the OS might have affected it? Rebooted back to normal but it just feels like its dying a slow death, how smooth is everyone else's? Cheers.

Ruñning cm 7.0.0 stable release working great no problems
Sent from my Blade using XDA Premium App
I wouldn't go over 650MHz. Are you using Apps2Sd (EXT version) if so is your SD card a class 2 card? Mines smooth on CM7 with Live Wallpapers. Maybe it just feels slower since you're coming from a Desire HD?
Well One Problem With The "Stable" Release Is that it reboots when you charge it.
Also Make Sure You Have A GEN 1 phone or CM7 Will brick it unless you install the special rom addon
It won't brick it, just won't boot up. This is due to incorrect Lib files.
I am on CM 7.0 stable also. Everything works perfect, except when I charge it reboots 1 time and then is ok. For first 5 chargings or so it did not restart at all. Could be when I use GPS?
Today I decrease min frequency to 122 Mhz instead of 2xx. Should this extend my battery life?

hi, i got one stupid q: if i install custom rom /CM will i loose aftermarket warranty?
thanks.
If u modify your phone in anyway u void warranty but you can always revert to stock for warranty.

ok, i will consider it... i think i would wait month longer and if orange wont do anything so i will..

Can't see Orange doing an update to 2.2 christ they don't even sell screen protectors for the device still to which when the UK network distributor you'd expect.
Took mine out of the shop and within about 3 hours was rooted debranded 2 hours of that was foot up in pub
I'm about to give my friend my GT540. He has never had a smartphone before, and knows next to little about computers. If he has a problem, he is going to come ask me about it. I'd rather he didn't have a problem.
With that being said, I want to give him the best performance as possible.
Should I return it to stock or is there a 2.1 custom rom that is extremely stable and idiot proof?
I will leave it rooted, repartitioned, and maybe overclocked to 700 or 800MHz.
I'm also looking for a good set of toggles/switches to put on the homescreen, and anything else that will keep him out of the settings menu. Any ideas?

A custom or official 2.1 would work best (custom for overclocking), as it has no CM7 settings that can mess up your phone. I recommended Widgetsoid from the market (free version) for a toggle widget for EVERYTHING.

I dont know if it was my area <gotta account for variable change, movie 21 voice> but every since i switched to ACS ICS, Legendary Rom, and currently the Thunderhawk Rom E122 version, my 3g speeds has been ultra slow in my area. I like all 3 roms but cant deal with the modem, which i believe controls 3g speeds. I guess what im asking is..can i keep an ice cream rom or an e122 based rom but change my modem? If i do..does it has to be one like eh17 or can can it be ec05? What do i risk if anything? Would i lose features such as overscroll glow? Thanks in advance guys!!!!

you can change to any modem you want really. I was running EG22 modem on EC05.
Check out this thread to get whichever modem you want and flash it via odin. There are some videos in the thread if you are unfamiliar with the process

No differences in speed here between any of the modems except for way back on that first eclair upgrade they did that fixed the upload speeds.
ultra slow 3g speed. below 100kb/sec used to be 1.5M

I have the same 3g speed problem and noticed my 4g is about half of what it used to be. Can't believe more people haven't mentioned it. I'm not sure what to do. wipe and reinstall. or an easier solution to this ultraslow speed especially in 3g.
UPDATE: Assumed all night that the recent drop in speedtest results of 150kb/s 3g or 3M/s 4g were due to a change in the kernel or ACS ICS V5 rom. I used to get 1M+/s on 3g. Although I am not 100% sure. I believe that it's not the phone at all. The recent speed drops just coincides with reports of other sprint customers getting poor 3g speeds. Many threads from iphone users who are stuck without 4g can be found online. Their reported 3g speeds are about the same as what I have been getting for the past few days.
I wonder if it's the increased # of iphone and other users overall on the same towers causing this? any ideas? should I be frustrated at he rom or at sprint for successfully signign up more more 3g hogging iphones to my community? Anaheim, CA btw.

I've been seeing some pretty crappy speeds myself lately. Maybe it's due tot he GB rollout? I'm sure that bogs down the network quite a bit when they do an OTA. I have noticed speeds gradually getting better over the past week.
I have tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346680
Don't really notice a difference but it's worth a shot.

I also tried that data speed increase zip file. At least for now, it didn't seem to help or hurt the speeds. Extremely sluggish 3g speeds today as well. 15kb/sec.. it's worse than 1X.
My 3g speeds are pretty crappy here in SLC too, really really bad, max I have got was 200 on 3g... 3g supercharger usually gets me up over 600 max over a Mb, but even with that turned on it is dismal at best. Tried this fix too, and it didn't do much better. I am pretty sure that it is Sprint...

Actually, it is not just me, I had my buddy test his 3g on his EVO 3D, and his was just as craptacular as mine, if not more so, and my 4g speed is also about half of where it should be, I get 1.5 MB when I used to get between 3 and 5...
3g speeds for me have always been horrible.. most times i can't even load a web page.. got the ACS ICS v5 and it was a step up from EC05, and uses a ton less battery, but still miserably slow compared to other carriers.
Usually the 3g supercharger helps, but not today. It might be location.

Well, as always, thanks for everyones response. Misery loves company..or at least conformation lol. Matter of fact..my speeds did slow down when GB started rolling out. Thats why i had to account for coincidence when i switched roms cause i figured other factors could have been involved. Im in a small city in Tx of 110,000 so its nice to see that other ppl countrywide are having the same problem. I was thinking goin ee03 for the first time but since i switched back to eco5 <thunderhawk rom semi official> unless im being positive..it seems faster 3g wise...hmmm
my 3g w/ ei22 has been really wild. i'll sometimes only get about 200kb...then sometimes over 1000bk...then back to 400kb. very inconsistent.
I myself noticed that my upload speed using the Airave has increased drastically.
Download is a noticeably slower (25% or so). WiFi is my go-to when at home now.
My buddy on Verizon LTE was pulling down a supposed consistent 37mbps a couple of months ago, only to be at a very inconsistent 20ish at the same exact spot and time of night.
My d/l and u/l speeds with EI22 are pretty much the same as with EC05 - nothing to write home about but acceptable (and 4G compensates - when I can connect to it). Am happier with GB because overall the phone performance has been snappier, which I attribute to better under-hood resource management of GB. FWIW, when I tested VZW network speeds at home with wifey's Droid 2 Global, they were slightly faster but very comparable to Sprint's. Staying with Sprint for a while longer.
No matter what rom I use or what kernal, I now for some reason can only get 1.19ghz. I do a full wipe and clean installs and wipe cache/dalvik amd get the same result.
Any ideas? I tried flashing Optimus 1.4.1and end up getting no nav bar too

Not yet, hoping that is a last resort.. to back up everything, reroot, etc would be a pain.
Well, before you go back to stock: make sure your device is cool, then test the cpu frequency with another app.
I had the same issue with 3ctoolbox and I immediately knew the app was the culprit.

Same issue with trickster, liquid smooth kernal utility Android tuner
One last thing to do before finally going back to stock:
Download and install dorimanx kernel and then synapse from play store and check with that.
Bad news. I wiped and went back to stock.. I rerooted and checked with android tuner.. it still only shows 1.19ghz
could this be a hardware issue?
