Gapps in Mytouch with CM7 - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm lookin, and looking and looking, ans as many newbies have to ask something that might sound stupid...
How do I install GAPPS in a mytouch4g that I just flashed with Cyanogen 7.0.2???
I just downloaded it 3 times and everytime I want to flash it, it says bad and aborted. I need this to finish installing things in my phone!!!!

Are you using ROM manager and clockworkmod?

Either you downloaded the wrong gapps version or the one you downloaded is currupt. Just redownload and make sure you're downloading the 20110307 gapps and reflash.

well, there is only one to download from cyanogen site. I know that there are even 4 different versions for cm6 but for cm7 there is only one, and I have downloaded 3 times from there and one from another site. There should be something else.

Yes to both.

Open rom manager. Click download rom. Click Google. Click the newest one. When its done let it restart and install.
If you want to do it manually... it will be on your SD card under
/sdcard/clockworkmod/download/goo-inside.me
To do it manually just flash the zip from recovery.

Hmm... as I stated in another thread, it seems it was an issue with the microSD... Installing other apps now...
But thanks to everyone... I'll keep posting my progress.

Rom Manager & clockwormod?

I installed rom manager from the market and when I selected download rom it says I need clockworkmod recovery which I already have installed. Will I have flash it through rom manager?
You can't use rom manager on the stock kernel. You have too boot into clockwork mod by turning the phone off and holding down power, camera and volume down all at the same time. If you change your kernel you can use rom manager.
Ok thanks.

I had the same question, but if you just go to flash recovery, it'll reflash cwm and it'll work like regular ol' rom manager. Real easy. I didn't think it would've worked cuz I already had cwm but it does

Its because none of the devs use rom manager as of yet but I'm sure now that we are up to date with cwm that some might start to use it.

You can't right now cause the developers aren't using rom manager. It might change in the future who knows.

GPC has released a clockwork mod version of his. Simply go into the APK folder and delete them all before you flash the rom! I agree they are a bit annoying.

ROM Manager downloads for HD2

Will all us HD2 users ever be able to download .zip ROMs straight from ROM Manager? And possibly even have Cyanogen nightly support for HD2?
I was just wondering as this would make installing new ROMs so much easier, instead of having to connect to my PC etc.
Replies welcome.

isnt that what CWM does? you download the zip to your phone and flash fromthe phone, no need to hook to a pc
Yes but so far there is no support for HD2
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
Just come on here through mobile and download that way, how easier could it get?
Yes but it would be much more practical, and we wouldn't be able to receive nightlies, and not all Roms are on here! If you look in rom manager in the desire sections there are lots of roms I have never seen mentioned on xda before

I can't download hyperdroid from rom manager it says file is corrupt
Also cyanogen 7.0 does download but. When its done it ask me to clear data and it then reboots
To my old Rom.

Youre right.
I use desire z, and has Rom Manager installed.
If I want to flash new rom, I just open the ROM Manager and let it download and run it. And it will reboot to the new rom (custom Rom, actually)
But, I usually cannot stay long, I always go back to stock rom because I really miss sense UI
Cheers

Flashing Gaap's Succesful but no changes - CM9 0.2 beta

I've succesfully flashed cm9 0.2 beta (from jokersax's site) and everything is working fine. However, after flashing the gaap's there is no change. I am not able to get the android marketplace app or any of the google app's in the package.
my CWM gives no errors and it says the package installs properly.
If anyone has any suggestions I'd be very greatful!
has anyone had an issue similar to this?
version 10? Did you install AFTER you flashed the Rom?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I've tried both v10 and v9. - and yes I flash them after already installing the rom. I've followed the procedure properly but nothing's showing up.
Have you tried re-downloading the gapps zip and flashing again? Try doing a system wipe, wipe all of your caches and whatnot, then re-flash 0.2 beta and gapps v10. My atrix has flashed everything properly, but then again this is still in beta so there's going to be problems somewhere.
I've literally done exactly that 3-4 times and it doesn't work. The rom installs perfectly but there are no google apps in it when I'm booted in.
these are my steps
- boot into recovery, perform wipe, including cache
- install 0.2 cm9
- flash gaaps v10 in the same way as 0.2 cm9
- turn on phone
the os is great but there is no market or any google apps. I was hoping to get face unlock going ><
Wipe dalvik too.

I do that as well every time, should have put that down.

Oh OK my bad. This has never happened to me. Gapps always includes atleast the market. Maybe try another cm9?
I've trued turl's aswell using his gaap's and it still doesn't work.
Geez. The only things I can suggest is a fasboot wipe or PM Turl or joker.
That's really odd.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
how do I perform a fastboot wipe? Also, is there a way to force app installation in fastboot?

What version of CWM are you using? If you're not using the latest, GAPPS may say it installs ok but will not actually install. I believe the latest is 5.0.2.7 or 5.8.1.8 if you're using Touch. Others have reported this same problem and updating worked for them.
Yea... that is quite odd. I've installed i believe at least 2 or 3 different versions of Joker's CM9, along with the Gapps kit, and have always gotten at least the Market, which is the general requirement for just about EVERYTHING.

Easiest thing to do would be to probably install Rom Manager and then update CWM through it.

The thing is, if he didn't flash Gapps, he also likely doesn't have the Google Framework files, on which the Play Store (and the rest of the Gapps) relies.

Flash GAPPS. If PlayStore still doesn't appear (had this problem with my I9100), just flash twice in a row.
CyanogenMod wipes /system and installs itself without GAPPS - you have to reflash GAPPS everytime if you're using an AOSP based ROM.

true, but if I'm not totally mistaken it should be pointed out that this definitely doesn't apply:

so as long as you don't flash a new/different ROM you don't need to flash GApps. But even with minor updates I always would recommend to do the following (at least) when flashing a new ROM or an updated version:
- format system
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik
- flash new ROM
- flash GApps
BTW this

hasn't to do with shortcomings of CM but with the license of GApps - pretty simple: GApps is not Open Source so devs shouldn't (aren't allowed to) include them with their ROMs
