Calls now route through normal headphones on Gingerbread! - Galaxy S I9000 General

Has anyone else tried this? I'm not sure if this is the consequence of Voodoo7 with Fugu mod, or if it is contained in the stock kernel. My Sennheiser headphones route calls through the headphone now with no issues.
EDIT: Oh yeah, headphone to speaker switching works just fine as well

what a good news ! A very good reason to switch to gingerbread !

If they could also add support for different controls on the headphones (play, pause, next song, volume up, down). I would like to use my remote controls adapter I got with nokia 5800xm because with it I can connect my sennheiser headphones that don't have play/pause buton built in.
Also since ginger likes having led lights on. They could program them to light the right one when we have a missed call (looks like a missed call arrow) and the left one when we have a missed message (looks like some txt). That would make ginger perfect
Both things are simple and can be solved through software! I hope Google/Samsung or some coder is listening

Well, I know voodoo 7 on froyo lets you receive calls on headphones with no issues..

It's been included in the stock firmware since gingerbread

My Siemens Bluetooth headset does all the above wirelessly. Media controls, play, volume. skip etc. and call controls. Also can be paired to multiple devices. Cost me £7.50 on eBay I bought two so I could use one with the line in on the car using a double male lead rather than have a connecting lead.

Any chance for a link to that Siemens bluetooth headset?

AFAIK speedmod includes the HPCall patch that does this in froyo. Voodoo 7 in darky or voodoo kernels didn't get this working for me, contrary to the above post.

Froyo 2.2.1 (XWJS3) does this as well.
With headphones, calls go thorugh headphones.
With speakers (high impedance), music goes through the speakers, but calls come on the phone.
Don't remember what the 'speaker' button does in the last case; I think it sends to the connected speakers and not the internal speaker, but I am not so sure.

WHICH AD2p Headset?

Ok guys, so I patch the firmware to get AD2p....
What headset(s) do you guys like? Being able to use them for both audio AND phone calls is a must..... seamlessly is even better.
Recommendations?
I have an Atom and I have the motorola ht820s.
When I'm not driving, they are excellent for music/speech and answering calls seamlessly. Mini-usb charger(same as atom) is an added bonus for me.
Highly recommend.
(reason for not driving is that in cali, you can't wear headphones while driving, so I use regular BT hands free for when i'm in car)
Motorola HT820 headphones work great with my T-Mobile MDA. Here is my review at pocketnow.com. At the time of the review the A2DP fix for the MDA was not available, but once I installed A2DP, it worked like a charm.
The motos are good if you want a well integrated phone/stereo headset that has no issues with the wizard, but I sent mine back for replacement because they didn't compare to the HP FA303s (Logitech is the same thing) when it came to hifi sound and max volume. The motos exhibited a real noticable distortion in the high end frequencies when compared to the FA303s. I'm hoping I got a defective pair because I really liked how comfortable they were too.
Stay away from the IOgear stereo/phone headset. A friend of mine let me try his and while the fidelity and volume was even better than the HPs, there were serious bluetooth connection issues. I had to refresh the device in bluetooth settings every time I wanted to use it just to get it to pair up, and the phone headset never worked properly.
Do the HP/Logitech ones have full PHONE functionality as well? I want to be able to make/receive a phone call while listening to stereo music without having to dork around with taking off the phones, etc.
No, that is their downfall: no phone headset capability. That in a nutshell is why there's no perfect solution out there IMO...
G-SAT BTH 820
I just got the G-SAT BTH 820. They has a small bluetooth until which the headphones plug into (allowing any headphones with a 3.5mm jack) to work. The bluetooth unit has the media player controls and the mic and is quite small (think of a shorter IPOD shuffle). Volume is really good; sound quality good, though slight background noise. While there is a wire from the headphones to the bluetooth unit, you are still untethered from your PPC..and i prefer being able to use the really light headphones (since the bluetooth unit and controls are not in the headphone). A great value since they are only around $60.
BES102 + BES103
I have the BES102 bluetooth stereo headset. It's great value for money since, aside from the headset, it also comes with the BES103 bluetooth transmitter dongle which can be used with any audio source. The headset also comes with a detachable mic attachment to enable you to receive calls while listening to music on your phone-enabled PDA (though I have not been able to make it work; I think it's an A2DP flaw). It also comes with a power adaptor, a USB cable and a splitter power cable that lets you charge both headset and dongle at the same time.
I got it for less than S$100 at Trendsmobile.
Sleuth255, im thinking if i should get the HP or Motos...which one do you think is best for my Vario...i dont want something big on my ears...which is why i looked at the HP ones
im considering on the basis of sound quality and the comfort when warn..
If my replacement motos have the same high end distortion then I'll return them. I'm keeping the HP's for sure unless the fidelity and volume of the replacements is much better.
It's a tough choice for sure. The motos have stellar integration with the Wizard and work pretty much flawlessly when switching from phone to stereo mode. They always pair right up too. Great bluetooth implementation.
fair enough mate...but if a phone call comes while your listening to music via the HP headphones will the voice go through the headphones....and do you have to hold the Vario close to ur head to speak...
or can you just use the phone normally....
because theirs no point in buying them if you gotta listen to the voice through the headphones and hold the phone near ur lips.....(thats like walkie talkies) lol
My problem exactly. You can hear the phone ringing through the headset but when you pick up it goes dead. I wonder if speakerphone works though. I'll check that in a few...
By comparison, the motos are awsome for this... they automatically pause the music when you pick up the phone then resume after you disconnect. The phone actually rings in the background while the music continues to play too so you can check the caller-id and keep listening if its not somebody you want to talk to.
I've got my fingers crossed that the problem with my first headset was actually a defect and that my next ones will be better. It'll be a few weeks before I can determine this though because it's 3 business days one way for UPS and I shipped out the old headset last Friday.
I just tested this: The HPs cut out completely when a phone call either comes in or is initiated from my 8125. Speakerphone mode merely sends the phonecall to my 8125's built in speakers.
hmmmmm thanks for the test mate...
I'd rather not buy the headphones then, considering the hands free are still good enough....
£50 of mine can be spent elsewhere (driving lesson etc)
Hopefully someone may write a hack for that problem then...
Thank you guys for pointing out the HT820 headphones. I'm tempted top buy a pair, there's some good prices on ebay too. Well i was looking for other options and notices the Plantronics Pulsar 590A. I like the look of the motorola's more but the plantronics... well its plantronics. Anyone had experience with the both of them?
Hmmmm... guess I'll wait for more reports...
Nokia HS12w Rocks....with FM
I have the Moto HT820 and the jabra BT620. When I first put the Jabras on my head I was going to throw them in the trash until I figured out the sound was ampliifed in TCMP. I turned th esound down on my phone and headset and away we go. I like both but think the Motos may have a farther range. Next for me is the Nextlinks Spider when it comes out that one is going to be sick. BTW both work well with Windows Media Player.

How's the range? Any background noise?
the best in my Opinion with an incredible sound is the logitech. I have the HT820(Headset,Headphone Combo), Sharper Image and the Logitech (Headphone Only)
The Logitech is the Best. Usually Headsets lack Bass and this Headsets is best in that area. It misses the Highs a little but that you can fix with little EQ'ing. The Headset fits nice and is not so bulky then HT820. The Smallest is the Sharper Image. But only 4h batt life.
So out of all these 3 i have i use the logitech the most because of the Sound.

[Q] Can't take a call with headphones through 3.5 mm stereo jack

Anybody verify that when headphones are plugged in to the 3.5mm stereo jack and a call is either placed or picked up that you can hear the person on the other end through the headphones but the person on the other end cannot hear you?
The mic is essentially disabled when the headphones are connected.
I have confirmed with Blackberry, HTC HD2, & Mytouch Headphones that you can indeed talk to the person. I did have a problem with pushing in the headphones in all the way, & when they weren't in all the way they couldn't hear me so make sure it is fully contacted with the jack.
Well it definitely looks like this is a proprietary issue. I took my phone back to verizon to check whether or not the phone was defective. Brought my handsfree (both Ifrogz and V-moda) to test on in-store fascinate. Made a phone call and the sales guy couldn't hear me. Put it in his storm2 and it worked just fine.
Went back and used a co-workers samsung's handsfree, and it worked perfectly. I wish they would've included the handsfree in verizon package. Unless somebody has tested out another handsfree brand to let us know, I'm thinking the 3.5mm jack is customized to samsung accessories only.
Interesting find!
Keep in mind I'm not trying to use a handsfree headset - I'm attempting to use my Bose In-Ear headphones.
I used to be able to take calls on my Incredible (and other phones) with them if I was out trail running, walking, just listening to music, etc.
You have an excellent good point with regards to a proprietary 3.5 mm port due to the fact that it also supports video out.
get a cheap nokia headset controller ad-54 on ebay.. the changes the wiring so calls can work through headphones.. ie one of these
http://cgi.ebay.com/AD-54-HS-45-Han...464602?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a0a6bd19a
I also can confirm that this doesn't work with the Fascinate. On numerous occasions, I have been walking to class on campus while listening to music. I assumed I could just answer the call and speak, because I could do that on my Droid X, but the caller wasn't able to hear me.
I'm assuming Bose headphones do not have a microphone, so how do you plan on using those for calls?
You need to use headphones with a 4 prong jack, which has a mic, such as the OEM ones

Plugging in the headphones disables the main microphone on the phone though, even if there is not a mic on the headset. Normally on other phones I've had, I could answer while on the headphones and just speak into the phone's mic, but that us not possible with this phone. I don't know if there is a remedy for this that doesn't involve using a special set of headphones...

So I figyred how to use my blackberry headset on my Fascinate. I had to unplug after making a call and then plug it back in.
Why does every cell phone with top notch hardware specs get released with all these tiny little software glitches.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I'm not sure if it was just me but I also had something odd happen. I used to use my iPhone for navigation and music in my car so, naturally, I use my new Fascinate the same way. I received a call while using my bluetooth headset and the phone routed audio to the car stereo instead of the bluetooth headset. I could hear the caller but they (obviously) couldn't hear me. The audio source on the screen was set to bluetooth too. Fairly annoying.
Anyone able to solve this?
Are you on a stock rom or a custom one? I believe this has been fixed with the Super Clean rom.

I'm using SC 2.9.2 and the receiving end couldn't hear anything.
I've run into this same issue. My wife's car has a bluetooth phone connection, so when in her car, I have my phone plugged into her stereo for music. When a phone call comes through, the call is picked up through the bluetooth, but the other end can't hear me unless I unplug the cable from the headphone jack.

[Q] Head phones with mic

Hey people. Thanks for all info, been reading about the defy here for some time. Got one now and I love it. I had a few smartphones before and this is by far the one I would stick to forever if I had to.
So, my question is: Are there any good head phones (in-ear plugs, with mic and maybe even music controlers) avaliable, and that I can be certain to be compatible with the Defy? Or could I just buy any that works fine with other Android or Motorola devices? Motorola is not sold in Sweden where I live, so it's not like I can check out any stores IRL here...
With my Xperia x20 mini, exacly what I described came along with the phone. Too bad that you just got these normal plugs with the defy. Cos there is just no way I would use those. As of now I stick to my old head phones but I'd love the mic function with my In-ear plugs.
Thanks for any help!
Ekholm
Ok, so I found this site:
thinkmotoroladefy.com/wiredheadsets.html
and it's all looking good, except for the part that they are a bit low-priced. I'm looking for high quality ones. I.e my current head phones was about 90 USD.
For information, iphone handsfree works fine
Thanks!
By chance, does anyone know if "Klipsch Image S4i" would work? they seams to be perfect! Volume, track fwd bwd and play...
I got one of these a few months ago, works fine with my HTC Desire. Not the best headphones in the world, but more than capable of handling a bus ride. You can unplug the headphones, clip on a small plastic hook and use it as an in-ear Bluetooth headset too. Two birds with one stone
I can get around 10 hours out of them between charges.
Thanks, it seams to be mono, right? Mono doesnt sound too thrilling...
If you use power amp you can set it up to use the controls on headphones to start and stop music, instead of calling the last number you called. It will work on the lock screen too.
This was the only way of getting it to work i found for the defy and i tried about 10 different headphones with in-line controls. Bluetooth stereo sets like the one above with controls seem to work fine for music however, ive got a sony bluetooth set and the controls worked right away on the standard media player.

3. Ring - Ground
4. Sleeve - Mic

I use Razer Moray+™ they have no remote function so you have to answer the call on the phone. But you have a mic and the work good for musik and phone calls.
anyone got an update for this, still looking for ear buds with a mic.
Klipsch Pro Media set(based on the S4i but a bit better build for traveling etc).
Awesome set up with defy. The S5i rugged set is also great as they are moisture proof and very overbuilt.

I've tried the iPhone standard headphones and sound works but Mic and controls don't. There is a pair of sennheiser mm50 Nokia. Which will work fine. Ordering one shortly.

[Q] Bluetooth Headset Audio?

Hi All,
I have a 16GB TF .. and it's been very good so far. However, I'm having an issue that I think is probably simple .. but google & xda searches don't find anyone else with the same issue.
I want to use Skype over the tablet, but with a bluetooth headset. Using the TF with just the internal mic & speakers is pretty speakerphon-ish .. and I'd like to use a headset.
I have a couple of BT headsets (one of them 2.1 w/ EDR), and I can pair any / all of them to the TF. Problem is, the audio doesn't come through over the head set, and I don't know how to force it to.
The TF (now running 3.1) acknowledges that the headset is connected (to phone audio it says) .. but the only options in the configuration is to remove it.
What am I missing? I see reviews all over the place where folks are using the tablet to play movies in the car, and piping the audio out via BT? I think I must be missing a config step .. but can't find it.
Thanks for your help.
Im kind of in the same boat but I dont think honeycomb has a "phone audio" functionality. Only "media audio," which is what you would use when piping audio to external speakers.
its the same on the phone, those headsets only connect to mono phone audio so if I was playing a movie or music its silent. So for right now I think you are stuck until they figure out how to make specific apps recognize the phone audio device.
Makes some sense .. so it knows there's a "phone audio" aspect to things out there, but we don't have any way to force the Skype audio to be phone audio and not media.
So if I had a stereo headset, would the system work with it and pipe the audio out since it would recognize it as a media audio system?
Where does the mic fit in all of this?
I have a BT combination headset/headphones which I paired with the Transformer, and from testing it I can say the following:
1. The transformer paris with the device and recognizes both the "handsfree" and "media" profiles that the headphones support.
2. The "media" profile (also called A2DP, stereo bluetooth, etc) works fine. I have listened to music in stereo though them and all of the controls like play/pause and previous/next work properly. If you want to listen to movies, music, or whatever else you should be fine.
3. I can hear Skype through the headphones, but testing revealed that Skype is using the Transformer's build in microphone rather than the one in my headphoens. It also doesn't respond to the call button. Thus, it seems to be using the "media" profile to deliver sound.
So, even though the Transformer can clearly recognize handsfree profile, it either isn't passing it to apps or Skype isn't asking for it.
It looks like as long as you plan to be Skyping with the tablet infront of you, you can get almost the same functionality of a handsfree/headset by using a BT headphones instead. As long as you don't plan to leave the tablet in one room and talk in another you should be fine.
hey so i tried Super BT Mono Free Trial and it actually worked. thought it was Froyo only and reportedly broken with gingerbread.
using Samsung WEP450 paired "handsfree" profile, turned on Super BT Mono and to my surprise audio from music player routed to the BT headset. sound is crappy, and so far can't get audio from BeyondPod to the BT headset.
rooted 8.4.4.11 with netformer 1.5 OC 1.6 ghz and juwe11 ram profile.
...
try jabra... coz jabra headset supports a2dp i had the same issues until i bought a jabra

earphones headset issue

I have already tried 2 different headsets with my i9000.They were working fine in the beggining but now the left one works in a VERY low volume.I tried with voodoo but nothing changed. Can someone help me with Service Mode.I think there is the problem and the solution .thanks!

That's because the 3 way audio jack is meant for apple products, I had this problem before until I realised that you had to hold down the mic button. If you want these to work you can buy adapters on ebay on the cheap.
i have the same problem after installing cm 7.1 - earphones works with any other device, but not with my sgs. holding down mic button doesn't work. I tried to use adaptors added to my urbanears headset (dedicated for nokia / other devices) - still the same issue.
well isnt there any way the Service mode can alter to balance the speakers?I have used voodoo with great results in normal earphones 2way-jack,but on the 3way it becomes a little loud but not as the other speaker!Abput the adaptors i have noticed people who worked for them and people who didnt. What adapter is the most <trustworthy>?
If you are using headset (earphone+mic+remote) for Apple or HTC, get a 3.5mm male to female TRRS adapter.
This will solve your problem.
No i am using the original samsung headset and another headset to check if the samys if faulty!i am fooling around inside service mode but cant find anything. How do i revert any changes back to stock in the Service mode?
anyone get to the bottom of this - driving me mad !
original headset - v low volume - increases when you push mic button
very weird
Original Sammy-made headphones (3 way) work fine on sgs. I had problem like this because I was simply not plugging 'em down and now headphones work normally. Since 3-way female 3.5mm is unified for all devices, you have to try to blow out all dust out of the phone 'cuz audio port isn't covered like usb or this plug in as far as possible.
I am also facing same sort of problem, most of the headphones don't work during call but do work on music
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
I have tried everything - phones are definitely pushed in properly - port is clean , as asrafw says phone volume on headset is fine for music - just rubbish for calls . Asra does your mic key on headset being held increase volume ?
I have found the opposite - do not push them all the way down then they work fine !
Headphones
You have to buy an iPhone-Nokia adapter, or switch the ground and data pins on any other headphone, which is designed iPhone-style.
To verify that the headset is that kind, if you press the middle button, then you should hear the music clearly.
Or buy headphones made for Nokia or Sony (Ericsson) products.
Even Samsung have changed to the new style with Galaxy Tab, so no proof that if it works with newer Samsung products, then it will work with our phones.
Have you tried a neutral stereo adapter. I got one with my UrbanEars headphones and they work well with it attached.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Yes, the middle button (mic) does improve volume - so what you are saying is that these headsets never worked properly ever !
Do you have a photo of the adapters you 2 are using - just want to make sure I get it right ,
cheers
This is a pic of my cable. I noticed last night that the headphone plug itself is a little different than the neutral stereo plug in that the neutral plug on has two coloured bands whereas the headphone plug has 3. This must be the difference between I pods and earlier androids.
