i know
but
we need enable it @ home screen
you mean that you want a widget or shortcut on your home screen to enable and disable it? try using any cut.

I think what the OP means is that he wants the Bravia engine to run all the time on games, home screen, in the messages etc etc, not just in the photos and the videos
No, what he's asking is whether the Bravia Engine can be tweaked to function all the time, not just when viewing pictures and videos.
edit: should really press refresh before using the quick reply box...
I wonder what would be the impact on battery life if BE was enabled all the time.
that would be awesome, but I wonder what it'd do to the battery life :/
I wouldn't give the battery more than half a day with a function like this... also, I wonder how it would look on things other than pics and videos, since there it's more or less for color correction and so on...

My homescreen doesn't need noise-reduction
1: It wouldn't work. It's hardcoded image enhancement code completely integrated in the gallery.
2: It'd look bad. It treats everything as images, so text could get blurry/oversharpened, antialiasing would get partially undone, everything would just look worse.
I agree with Step666... homescreen doesn't/ shouldn't need enhancing this way. There's no value in it.
my home screen doesn't need bravia engine and why would u want it to run on home screen or any other programs? does it make u feel better? i'm happy with how SE-BE works

Hello every one,
i know, there are a lot of flashlight apps out there. But none of them fitted my needs.
My requirement for a flashlight was, that i can switch the device to standby while i use it as a torch. But unfortunately if the device goes into standby it also disabled the led on the apps i tested.
So i scratched my own itch and wrote this little widget called MyBeam. It has no preferences pane and no activity screen. It's just a widget which you can put on your home screen and touch it if you need a flashlight. If you put your device into standby, then the led will shortly go off and then back on again. So you can use the led also when the device sleeping.
Maybe you find it as helpful as me
You can find the GPL'ed source code on htt*://github.com/chris-tau/MyBeam
You don't need to have a rooted device. But i only tested it on the desire.
Attached you'll find some screens and the apk.

Nice app idea... very cool to have alterations. TBH, I was after this myself so thanks!
You haven't placed a beam_on in res/drawable-hdpi so it uses the icon.png for the widget on instead
I quickly modded your on/off icons and icon size for the widgets on my apk. I use Executive Assistant as the screen on my phone after the lockscreen. The widget fits on there nicely ->

I don't see it missing. It's in the repository.
But i just checked the apk and found out that the icon is named 'beam_onm.png'. Wonder how that came? I'll replace the apk with a fixed one.

There is a beam_on icon in the apk, but it is mislabelled as "beam_onm"! However, I do like your icons - fancy sharing?!
EDIT: Hmm, took too long typing, you beat me to it Chris!
They're a 2 second hack job from Flashlight which I was modifying and testing around the time you posted this app (and a bad job ). Others could do far better.
They're in PNG. I set them to display at 146/146 dip for myself. The two lights on rather than three was an intentional visual cue (as that's not the brightest).
Great app!!
Just what I was looking for. Awesome!
true, this was always a annoyance for me too, great app!
Has anyone noticed what happens when you try to set a wallpaper?? It only lets you use a portion of the picture, WTF. I went and got some wallpapers from the "show your homescreen" thread only to find out that I couldn't set them properly. Was it like this before 3.1? Also does anyone know a way around this problem??
Yea.. it is annoying.some say it is possible.
Tried and failed.

It *does* let you set the whole picture as your wallpaper -- it just doesn't show the entire wallpaper at once. That's by design, and for good reason.
Think about it for a second. When you rotate the tablet, you don't want your wallpaper sideways, so it has to rotate too. Unless the wallpaper gets stretched when it is rotated or has black bars at the edges (neither of which you would want), then there's no way around the fact that the tablet has to crop the wallpaper to fit it to the screen.
It's slightly complicated further by the fact that when you swipe between home pages, Android moves the "window" into the wallpaper slightly to give a sense of motion, thereby visually reinforcing the change between home pages. There's a setting to disable visual effects that *might* change that; I've not done so because I quite like it, so I can't say for sure whether it can be disabled.
It's easy-peasy to make good wallpapers for the TF, though. All you need to do is confirm the overall size, choose an image that works well for both landscape and portrait modes, and size it appropriately. (I don't remember the size offhand, but it's been mentioned in these forums before, so a search will find it.)

I have the same problem. I have tried it on the Xoom and the New Sammy 10.1 at the store...same thing. If your trying to use a picture from the gallery that you downloaded no matter the resolution it won't display the whole pic. To get a picture in the larger resolution I find one on the internet and long press and choose set as wallpaper. That's about the only way that works. I think it's a bug in Honeycomb..if it's not then its a poor way to do wallpaper from the gallery. I'm a photographer mostly for fun but it's not hard to see that it's only able to expand to a part of any resolution and then it is grainy looking because it's zoomed up too large on screen. I've even had it show the smaller crop as a smaller picture at the correct resolution on the screen with the black background around it...still not the whole picture. Sorry IMO ...BUG.

If you make it the right size, it *will* work. I know it will, because I made my own wallpaper and it fits perfectly.
If you set a picture as wallpaper using gallery it will ask you which part of the pic you want as the homescreen background and such. If you're thinking of stretching the picture, forget about it.

Something is causing it and this isn't the only thread I've seen that people are having problems with it
Here is a example of what I'm talking about.. The first is the original pic. The second is a pic from another thread where you can see it set to full screen. The third is my attempt to set that pic to full screen.

I have used like 10 different ones some that were like 1280 x 1000 to 2500 x 1500, or something like that.
I've tried all possible resolution of my pics and none fit the full screen without crop or loosing a quality.
But this works for me perfect
All u need is this app MultiPicture Live Wallpaper and its free
So how to ?
-long press on homescreen
-than go to Wallpaper->Live Wallpaper and select MultiPicture Live Wallpaper
-select Setting and set your folder with your wallpapers
Done
This app actually changing the wallpapers in particular time but u can also sett it to use only one picture if u don't like changing
There is a lot more settings what u can play with if u like
So enjoy
There are apps out there that allow you to use the full image.
thats what I mean
but not all apps works as it should or as u want it

It works great.
I wonder if you can make a system folder that lets you add wallpapers to it so that they show up along side the stock wallpapers. I did this with notifications I made three folders on my SD card each inside of the next media/audio/notifications and that let me add sounds so that they showed up along side the stock ones. Another way would be to use the app Rings Extended.

Yeah, I load it into paint shop pro and increase the canvas to much larger. Ie, say the picture is 1280x800 i expand it to say 4000x4000 - then i can pick the area i want when cropping on the tablet

At first I will say that at first I wanted to do a quick reply, but as the ideas came to my mind i started thinking about full topic xD
The topic was created to give devs ideas for some smaller tweaks/upgrades/features. I made this topic after I saw that the topic where dev asked what do you want for new rom, peoples only idea was "MIUI". I was little bit disappointed by that.
As I have many ideas I will sort them in groups.
General use tweaks and functions:
- A player in lock screen (only visible when playing music)
- Changing songs by long press volume button (Old SE function implemented in very old phones ages ago)
- Auto air plane mode on selected by user hours (I mean turning off gsm/3g at night)
- Turning the led for buttons in pre-defined light conditions. (For example: in direct sunlight the buttons are very visible and i don't think that anyone has got problem in finding them. They are wasting battery at that time and no one can even see them. But at night it might be helpful for some users)
- Motion-blured launcher (and if it is possible - other apps also)
- Any wifi signal tweak is great also
- I use default x10 launcher because I love the music widget and timescape. Rest is only a bonus. I really don't like that we don't have feature that our x8 friends has got by default - up/down gesture that enables app drawer and goes back.
- Equalizer in default music app
- Faster wifi connecting (huh I know that we have a really bad wifi controller but any tweak here would be great)
- Using some other keyboard than default one
- Already updated versions of programs on roms (like latests maps instead of older ones - I know that you want to make your roms ultra light weight but it would save some time for users, and we really don't look so much if the file size of our room is 3 or 4 mb bigger)(of course you should make rom as lightweight as possible )
- Panorama app by default would be ok
- AdBlock (these is also a battery tweak - reduces the number of connections)
- By default power save widget doesn't work, why is it still implemented?
- Making more free ram by disabling setup wizard service (does anyone need it??)
- XDA app should be in ROM by default (with option to remove it of course)
- Increased call volume
- Some audio quality enchantments using headphones
Picture/camera/video related things:
- Improving bitrate/fps of videos and improving pics (but that isn't anything genius I think)
- 16mln colors (but that is also obvious)
- Control of exposure time and ISO [would be soo really great that i would start thinking about donation]
- Something that would look good and be same useful as androids gallery, but would provide normal zoom (I mean full resolution zoom)
- Making photo app start faster
- Auto flash in poor light
- A flash instead of non stop shining (it is also great battery tweak)
- Making RAW (Dreams xD)
- Option to adjust and/or turn off default denoise/sharpen algorithm (sometimes I hate the edges wrrr)
Battery saving:
- As I wrote - turning network at night
- Improving bravia engine to do more - in tv's the back-light is adjusted to the picture it is viewing. If the image that is on our phone is pure black the phone would reduce backlight to minimum. If half of the screen would be gray and the other half also the backlight would be also reduced to minimum but the gray pixels would be shown in the hardware as pure white. For us we would have more battery juice, better blacks and there wouldn't be anything missing from image. It there would be elements that would need 100% white the screen backlight would be also set to 100%. I don't know how hard it is to implement, it could need bootloader unlock but it would be a milestone for our x10, not a simple tweak
- Calibration notification - once 2 months or some pre-defined amount of charging cycles
- Some app that would automatically adjust voltages. It would check every freq with some voltage. If it didn't have restarted it continues making the voltage lower if not it would use higher V
- Enabling lower freq than 128mhz (but not like doomlord's that the voltage was 1000mv and you couldn't change that [Of course it is very good that he proved that it is possible])
- A flash instead of non stop shining (it is also great camera tweak)
- If 3g is enabled in settings, the phone would turn it off if the screen is also off (we don't need 3g when we don't use the phone so lets use edge to save battery and still be able to answer the phone)
- Make media server as individual zip. It uses power (I always have in battery usage that it "ate" about 2% to 5% of battery. Not everybody use it so it might be helpful)
- Adblock - Reduces number of connections (these is also general tweak)
Appearance:
- Making puzzle lock default lock screen
- Making gray battery circle default
- Making colorful/green icons
- Transparent bar of launcher
- Wallpapers specially for our x10 (in few weeks I'll start doing some)
- Replacing the clock on lock screen
- weather on lock screen
Note that Appearance is my own opinion and some people might not like it
I'm not posting some obvious things like bootloader/better multitouch. Every dev knows the basic things to do.
Ok, I think thats enough for now. If you have ANY ideas for our x10 please comment below so I can add them to our list
I know that some of ideas are already implemented in some roms. But they are extremely rare.
If some devs would like to talk about some ideas, they can do that here also.

If you're into a "hubs" style look for your tab, using Tasker with Minimalistic Text provides an easy way for links to navigate the various screens set up.
I'm no tasker wizz, but I find it useful to have the screen remain on when AC power is connected. I take my tab to work and this lets me to see incoming messages, change songs, etc., while I use my PC.

I'm curious about these hubs. I've seen the minimalistic text, but I hadn't really had time to solidify a use for it.
Hubs are great until you realize how much extra resources these additional widgets take up to suppor them. Depending on number of home screens and images used multipicture livewallpaper can take up a bunch of memory. Minimalistic text takes some too. It can all add up culminating in pauses and stutters jumping from app to app or screen to screen as the OS tries to shift resources around. With some work though things can be optimized to minimize impact.
Sent from my SCH-I905 using Tapatalk
Check out this link for more details on hubs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232357
There are some great ideas, examples, and instructions in there.
I suppose if someone goes overboard with widgets on homescreens it could impact battery life, whether using hubs or not. I haven't noticed any difference, personally.
i got really annoyed with minimalist text because you could only make icons that are really small
so what ive done is just find my wallpaper images and on photoshop overlay the hubs then use multipic to make a differenT wallpaper for each homescreen then make transparent icons that swich between homescreens and put them ontop of the writing i have overlayed in photoshop kinda confusing but it works !
look at any of my themes and all of them in the screenshots have my homescreen with this setup
I set my tasker to change my wifi settings to off when screen is off and always on when I am listening to pandora or streaming radio so that I can save some power by not having to have the screen on all of the time while streaming, but that is all.
Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
it is a fine and quick device. But after using a custom rom on my z3 compact, i am just missing a few things that i find essential.
1) missing the data traffic monitor 2)missing the option to switch recents and back buttons.
3) missing the 2 extra buttons on the navigation bar.
(yes, they are from gravity box in xposed module)
the standard file explorer is also very bad. it always goes to download map standard, when you want to move or copy a file.
and it has facebook, avg and amazon apps that you can't delete and facebook even has an facebook app manager app that doesn't show up and you need to disable it through the apps menu.

Well that is something new to me. Didn't know that system ui tuner was actually an option. Made the wrong assumption that you meant changing things through the normal menu's. System ui tuner only has options for do not disturb and status bar. No navigation bar . I do have to say that I just updated the software today to a version with the security patches from 1 April.

thanks for the answer, what a pity! so we will probably have to wait for root also to be able to re-arrange navbar buttons :crying: or maybe that is also possible via adb and someone comes out with a solution earlier? :fingers-crossed: what do you think master @serajr?

hello, all
i'm newbee in android phone
but i love this phone for basic (but importants) points
- good autonomie
- compact size
- good apn
- a full 5" screen in a small formfactor
So far I really like this device. It's my smallest device yet and I love it. Performance is great and battery life is outstanding. Low light performance with the stock camera app is my only gripe as it seems to add artifacts. Hoping gcam will be available before too long. Decent case selection especially when compared to the Essential.
