How do i alternate between this two intents on a surfaceview and create the graphical effect seen in youtube during start/pause when recording a video?
-->stopService(new Intent(getApplicationContext(), ServiceRecording.class));
-->startService(new Intent(getApplicationContext(), ServiceRecording.class);
Code:
public void onClick(View v)
{
}
Can someone reply to my question?

Hi i'm new to android so that's why i come to find help... Hi an introduction to the app i'm doing here, i'm actually doing an car blackbox app..
I had my service run the video recording processes in the background so i should be able to leave the app for a while and come back to the Video recording GUI with the surfaceview but my application was force to close when i return to the app. So is the problem related to onResume() method or something else? If its yes what i should do in order to get my application GUI to return to the video recording surfaceview and still running the background recording using the service rather than giving me an error? Can someone help please...

This is like the third time you've posted this. Convention dictates that you "bump" the existing thread rather than start a new one.
That said, I've considered replying each time, but I don't even know where to start. You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of OOP and java in general, and Android extensions specifically.
You can't use your CameraTest class the way you are in your service. You seem to be operating under the assumption that you can just declare some objects "static" (I'm assuming to get around compiler errors) and be able to access them as if they were some kind of global variables. You'll need to use bindings (AIDL) between your service and activity to properly synchronize calls between the two. This is a rather advanced topic and can't really be addressed in a reply.
Sorry i'm rather new to forums... By the way after your explanation i seems to get even more confused in a way, ya i'm rather confused/misunderstood OOP and java because i never really studied java before yet my lecturer still force me to do android for my project... Wow you're really good in spotting my problem.
Either way, i still don't seems to be able to return to my GUI recording preview homepage after i leaves the page, how should this problem be solve? Sorry if i'm rather slow/stupid to understand your "technical" descriptions...
I wanted to know is there any easy way to retrieve video resolution on the actual phone? Because different phone has different phone resolution's compatibility, so i wanted to retrieve the phone's resolution string data and display the different resolutions dynamically into my ListPreference for user selection...
Does it have to do with extracting the string from log.d, substituting the appropriate resolution values and populate into my ListPreference, does it have to do with some Split method? If so how should i do it i'm a newbie in java/android can someone guide me on how should i do that?

I know it has to do with split something but i'm kinna stuck here can someone guide me on this?? Even after i get the appropriate height and width how should i use the values to be used in ListPreferences?
Code:

Maybe you should use PackageManager to query the installed applications for you.
For example, when you want the list of launchable activities. You can do like this:
Code:
// create a intent for the query below
Intent mainIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MAIN, null);
// add the intent category you want, if need
mainIntent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_LAUNCHER);
// get the instance of the package manager
PackageManager packageManager = context.getPackageManager();
// these are the activies you want
List<ResolveInfo> activities = packageManager.queryIntentActivities(mainIntent, 0);
Hope can help you

You dont have startActivity in your launcher button
Can you please give me a code example fairly new to this
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Well, if you just want a activity list and launches when clicked, you can simply create a LauncherActivity.
Can you please show me using my code example where I would place that at? Thank you so much

1. create new class MyLauncherActivity
2. override the method "getTargetIntent()" in LauncherActivity
Code:
...
import android.app.LauncherActivity;
public class MyLauncherActivity extends LauncherActivity {
[user=439709]@override[/user]
protected Intent getTargetIntent () {
// just a example, you should replace the method yourself
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_MAIN);
intent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_LAUNCHER);
intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
return intent;
}
}
3. replace the code inside your onClick method to the R.id.all_apps button :
Code:
Intent intent = new Intent(this, MyLauncherActivity.class);
startActivity(intent);
4. don't forget to declare MyLauncherActivity in your AndroidMenifest.xml
5. try to do it yourself with others' experience, but not just ask for the code, that's not good for a coder. Wish you can understand this.
<b>First of all: I am bigger in Android programming </b>
I have created simple TCP Socket using Service.
The client connects to server when the button in `MainActivity` is triggered.
Now i want to create `PrintWriter` object in `MainActivity` using `Socket` object of Service.
I got to know it is possible to pass objects from `Service` to `Activity` using JSON.
I searched over Internet but couldn't get an idea how I can pass it.
Please give me simple code example to pass the object.
MyService.java
public class MyService extends Service{
public static Socket clientsocket;
public static PrintWriter printer;
SendMessage sender;
@override
public void onCreate() {
Toast.makeText(this, "Created", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
super.onCreate();
}
@override
public void onDestroy() {
Toast.makeText(this, "Stoped", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
if(clientsocket!=null){
try{
clientsocket.close();
Toast.makeText(this, "Socket Closed", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}catch(IOException e){
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
@override
public int onStartCommand(Intent intent, int flags, int startId) {
Toast.makeText(this, "Running", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
SendMessage sender=new SendMessage();
sender.execute();
return super.onStartCommand(intent, flags, startId);
}
@override
public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0) {
return null;
}
class SendMessage extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void>{
@override
protected Void doInBackground(Void... params) {
try {
clientsocket = new Socket("192.168.237.1", 6666);
} catch (UnknownHostException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
return null;
}
@override
protected void onPostExecute(Void result) {
if(clientsocket!=null){
Toast.makeText(MyService.this, "Connected", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}else{
Toast.makeText(MyService.this, "Lost Connection", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
super.onPostExecute(result);
}
}}
MainActivity.java
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
@override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
}
public void start(View v){
startService(new Intent(this,MyService.class));
}
@override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu);
return true;
}
class PrintMessage extends AsyncTask<Void, Void, Void>{
@override
protected Void doInBackground(Void... arg0) {
return null;
}
}
@override
protected void onDestroy() {
stopService(new Intent(this,MyService.class));
super.onDestroy();
}}
<b><u>Now I need a clear & complete code for both MyService.java (how to pass object I.e. in this case `Socket` object `clientsocket` )and MainActivity.java (how to retreive passed object I.e. `clientsocket` and use it to create `PrintWriter` object) </u></b>
Hi guys. When i am writing code, i wondered something
Which OnClickListener type is more CPU and power friendly ?
A: Implementing OnClickListener to the Acitivity.
for example:
Code:
cpu_freq_limit.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
@Override
public void onClick(View v) {
//something
}
});
B: Setting OnClickListener to a object. (like button)
for example:
Code:
@Override
public void onClick(View v) {
if(cpu_freq_limit==read) {
//something
}
}
