I made my own site of official animated National Weather Service doppler radar images because I couldn't find any.

For the last year or more I've been unable to find 'official' animated National Weather Service doppler radar that runs on our low memory devices (gifs don't work and if you've upgraded past SenseUI, flash lite doesn't work either). Substitues applications are OK, but I prefer the real deal.
I just uploaded this a few minutes ago and there may be some bugs (both functional as well as interface, please let me know).
The long list of doppler sites can be avoided by bookmarking your frequently visited sites.
I also have a mobile site for new tv show air times from TVRage.com (also because there was no app at the time I created the page)
http://wap.pdxvr.com/t.php
Credits:
I should have given some credit where it is due here.
I used this for the javascript animation http://goo.gl/4baVi
I used this http://goo.gl/ejMju for deconstructing the gif (although I'm going to rewrite it from scratch I think)
I just put them all together onto what I already had as a site.
As a flight instructor this is very useful to me, thanks for your work.

I had noticed a need for NWS radar for pilots, I think there are maybe 2 apps out there. You are welcome!
This stuff is awesome!!!! How did you do it?

edit: So I didn't write that much of the guts of it, just sort of made other people's scripts work and integrated it onto what I already had going.
I found that the NWS was using this http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~billb/jsani/ for some of the satellite images but not for the large doppler gif images.
Then I found this php class that splits the gif into separate images
http://www.phpclasses.org/package/3234-PHP-Split-GIF-animations-into-multiple-images.html
Put them together and voila!
I'll be adding all the other radar eventually, visible, infrared, water vapor, fog, etc.
Only thing I don't like is that jsani doesn't really scale with the screen (I had to fix it at 320px wide) but it zooms in ok it seems.
*whistles* Outstanding! Now that's what I'm talking about. Resourcefulness and ingenuity. Love it! Keep up the excellent work!
Just found this (thanks to the link in your sig). Good stuff aiwetir. Now I can get rid of that clunky weather channel app that usually didn't work anyhow.
Nice. Why not turn it into an app?
Another great app would be a simple GIF viewer. Great work!

Anyone know if there is a small app to allow you to toggle from a display with menu and task bars to full screen in any app?
TIA
Ed

I'm working on a new interface and possibly combined version of Fullscreen anything and VJToggleToday II. Hopefully this will allow fullscreen anything...

thanks mate!
but what is "fullscreen anything" - i couldnt find it!!!
ed
"Fullscreen anything" isn't a program I've released (for now).
I was asked in another thread if I can make an app like VJToggleToday II but for all apps. I said that I made such an app once, but didn't release it because the OS sometimes doesn't know how to deal with "enlarged" apps.
However, since the code for VJToggleToday is nearly finished, but I now need to put an interface around it, I had the idea to combine it with that old unreleased app, to make a combined version.

Lovely job!
I can't wait!
it'll be very good if it helps me have more screen space for apps like flexmail and pocketinformant! I tried the VGA method but it hurts my eyes to much!!!
Hopefully, and this is theoretical right now because I don't use Pocket Informant, it should work on just about any app. Good thing I wasted so many gazillions of hours writing VJSmallIcons II! Some apps need some "jiggery pokery" (that's a technical expression) to make them fullscreen. However, some apps just don't like to go fullscreen, although the worst that'll happen is you may get some graphical glitches (which is why I didn't release before). I like NewsReader in fullscreen mode, which it doesn't natively offer.

cheers vijay.
I looked at buttonmax but there is no wm5 version yet. Im sure your job will be smaller, slicker & better anyway. (schlurp schlurp, sucking up!!!)

Need some recommendations for a good RSS app. i am trying Egress out but i dont like the today plugin as it wont allow me to customise which channels are displayed on the today screen.
so what do people around here recommend then (i dont mind not having a today plugin if the app itself is really good)?
pRSSreader has worked well for me
If you own marsware weatherpanel, you can download newspanel for free (in beta) it nicely displays rss with pics on your today screen!

I used to use pRSSreader. It's very good - and free.
Newsbreak, from Ilium Software, isn't free, but is my current fave.
I have tried many but currenty using A6.Times News... The interface is very nice and easy to use. It is young in the market but many enhancements are coming soon and the support has been stellar from the developers. Here is the link:
http://www.alien6tech.com/TimesScreenshots.aspx
Developers are very open to suggestions and respond in a timely fashion. ONe main feautre it is missing for me is a Today screen plug-in but I am told this is coming soon.

What is "the bit"? I don't see what you are talking about.
well I tried Newsbreak and thought it was completely crap. not anywhere near as good as prssreader. no today plugin either, which is what I want it for. but the fact that I can't seem to get it auto update is frustating. any fellow users got any idea's?
I lack the prgramming skill to make this happen, but this idea is way to revolutionary to WM imo.
If someone could look into making this happen i would be more then grateful. It goes like this - A multiple homescreen switcher,
scrollable by flicking horizontally on the screen. Like touch cube or something totally different?,
customizable anims, etc. etc. Different plugins allowed on each homescreen.

Could we live without his ??!
Any ideas welcome !!
something sismilar can be achieved with wisbar desktop, also a software likt that one you suggesting will eat a lot of resources in switching the today screens and to support a lot of today plugins...
it is not impossible, but it is hard to achieve
As you mentioned "homescreen", I would presume that you are using a smartphone rather than PDA-phone (i.e. with touch screen). There is a software out there that supports multiple Today screen (not freeware though). However, I heard from many that the software isn't that well written or just the fact that WM5/6+HTC stuff aren't powerful enough to run too many Today plugins.
rlToday and MortScripts
Actually you can do what you are asking using rlToday and MortScripts, By Creating MortScripts that Change Which Today PlugIns are enabled per "Page" and even which rlToday Skin is used. One Example of how to do this can be found here.
You can always look Here
V2R Multidesk is very neat piece of software, but it is a lil heavy
idea is as old as WAD is.
and it is BEST idea - since author made WAD standalone - without WA2, which is just ridiculous hog.

,
WAD "todays" are not prefetched, so memory requirements are LOW(i said LOW).
of course, there's always POCKETAGE, which is best freeware thing i ever seen(and i've seen MANY things).
it takes more mem(preloading of today plugs and icons), but on other hand it uses png's with transparency for icons, WAD uses tga's which are 4x bigger.
if you are able to beat these, you are god.
any good links to Pocketage in english?
I was thinking of the cube always set to active, to act as your today screen. With your wallpaper on it,
with different icons/anims and ability to change size of icons and placement on the today screen .

Hi there. I saw in this forum many good programmers. Can any of you make a RSS program with embeded photos like newspanel???
RSS Hub is my choice of reader, and will probably always be. Even supports podcasts, and auto updates.
The New Viigo beta, for SURE! Has TONS of features, at least give it a look:
http://viigo.com/beta

I like BeyondPod. It works well for me.
pRSSReader. does its job simply and perfect
I know there are a ton of free ones but I've always gone bake to SPB Insight because it actually downloads the whole article and not just a link. Does anyone know of a free one which also has this feature? Basically in the morning before I set off to work I connect to my wireless network and update all my channels, there is no 3G available in my area, nor where I work, no wifi at work either, which is why I like to have whole pages downloaded. I have HTC RSS hub built into my rom but it only gives me brief headlines wanting to connect to the internet to view the whole article. Seems like a waste of time to me.

pRSSreader does that too AFAIK

I really like the Egress 4.0.0 interface however it has horrible memory leaks (Once I uninstalled Egress the memory leaks stopped). I have yet to try 3.3.0.
I really like pRSSreader which you can find at the below URL. The new 1.4.x release really improved the UI. However, there are a few small bugs that the author David Andrš is really working hard to fix.
http://code.google.com/p/prssr/
all this programms are good but not any can show pictures in today screen like new spanel.
It seems that any wallpaper with a gradient or any shading or glowing is displayed like in 8-bit style. What I mean by that is this.

Its really making alot of wallpapers look hideous and would like to know what I can do to make it look the way it should. Thanks in advance.
Seems like a little help and a little research does wonders these days.
Just so this can be used as a reference, i'm gonna go a little in dept here.

might try adding some noise to the pic. just a little bit. I used to have to do this on my touch pro 1+2 on some walls

a quick google turned out this:Say Goodbye To Gradient Banding | Planet Photoshop

These methods work in getting rid of the banding lines but what I figured out was to keep the quality, you need to do alot of tweaking and messing around. What I found out was adding a gaussian blur on a new layer thats slightly transparent and adding a little noise on a overlay layer thats slightly transparent is the trick.
This took me 2 mins to do. (Its 6:22am on fourth of July, I'll put up better examples later)
Before
After
What got me thinking was some of my camera pictures and other pictures in the gallery look stunning but anything I transfer via pc had horrible banding. Didnt make any sense at all. I'm no expert but adding a little blur and noise almost tricks the evo's screen.
great idea! thanks, now i can finally get some good wallpapers onto my evo.
How about sharing the exact settings you used? Or even better would be to post a PSD template that only requires people to paste their wallpaper (or possibly copy a layer style)
Download wallpaper set and save from the market. It fixes this problem.
