Windows Live Problems

Hi guys, I installed the Windows Live Package from http://www.live-messenger.nl/download/WindowsLive.PPC2005_ARM.CAB. It worked perfect, now i wanted to know how much memory this app costed, so i uninstalled it again. But when i tried to install it again, it failed When i open the cab, it loads approx. 5 seconds in the installer, then the installer says Installation of WindowsLive.PPC2005_ARM.CAB has failed Anybody suggestions how i can get this work??
p.s. Without a hard reset

I have also done the same thing and get the same error. I had to uninstall Windows Live Mobile because I was getting an error everytime I tried to launch Live Messenger. Now I can't re-install it again.
I have 2 main ideas:
1st.: Microsoft is cutting the service from these "un-official" releases of their software, as they are trying now to sell Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Live can't be downloaded or installed let's say "legally".
2nd. (which doesn't affect the first one): Microsoft recognizes the WLM software as not pre-installed or being installed on a Windows Mobile 5 device and tells the client to get "blocked", I mean, it writes some values to the registry and prevents being launched or installed again showing the empty error message I had before unistalling it.
Someone can verify any of my ideas or bring a solution to have WLM working again on our WM5 devices?

Romero i've found the problem! I got my hands on an UNdated UNrestricted version. As you said mic. just cut the WLM off. I do not knowe why but here is the fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36364&d=1175459584

neither of those are correct, the reason is thats its a beta and expired at the beginning of the month. therefore you cant run the program or install it. just get a new beta version by signing up to Microsoft Connect or use the older version thats been extracted from wm6 thats floating around here.

The version The Dutchman posted was in English, but I find out that the Aserg's file was several kB bigger... That made me think and decided to install this bigger one and finally got Windows Live Mobile working in Spanish, just like before my beta had expired.

[Q]WP7 + Chevron connection issue

After following the normal guides, this is what I have completed so far using Windows XP SP3:
1) Install Zune
2) Install the certificate file on the phone + regedit the PC
3) Connect the phone to the PC
4) Zune finds the phone and is able to connect
5) Chevron opens, I tick the two boxes, but then errors with 'I am unable to communicate...'
To resolve I have tried:
Ensuring hosts file is not read-only
Delete any entries for windowsphone in hosts file
Put phone into airplane mode
Run chevron as administrator
Disable all A/V and F/W
Disable all network adapters / wireless etc
Can anyone suggest anything else to resolve?

You DEFINATELY need to install Windows phone 7 SDK- i had the same issue, i could resolve it by installing the SDK.

But that can only be installed on windows vista/7 right? Not on XP

That didn't work. YOu need the developer tools installed before you can install this and that needs windows vista/7 anyway.

Is the chevron7.exe working on 64bit WIN7 or only on 32bit version?

Have installed Zune and developer tools, spent all day on this and I'm no futher. Chevron does not work.

For me too.. Chevron doesn't work.

I have the same problem. I got it unlocked, locked it again and now i can't unlock it anymore

I finally managed to unlock!
This probably won't help the people who can't re-unlock, but the final issue at my end was that I was using a web proxy. The Zune service uses the domain defaults for proxy settings (which, for me, is set to automatic discovery). I noticed with Process Monitor that most http requests from Zune went through the Privoxy proxy on my server. (Which of course, does not know about how ChevronWP7 redirects developerservice.microsoftphone.com to the fake local service.)
After disabling the proxy and rebooting (to make sure the Zune *service* (not the app) picks up the change), ChevronWP7 worked as advertised. Note, however, that I needed to click "Unlock" twice - the first time I got the usual connection error.
I hope this helps someone!

I think that I´m going to have to give up on WP7. At least untill they come out with a better chevron. I´ve been working on this since WP7 first was announce on DFT´s website.

I´ve tried a thousand times.

I had the same problem. I closed all applications that used up the internet, including my web explorer. Then tried again and it worked fine.

I gave up.. however I then used another Windows Vista PC (instead of my windows XP SP3) and all worked fine.

please if someone knows what method could i use to work with live services and download free softwares from marketplace without failure.

2) activation code got from MS and added successfully.
3) when i am trying to start chevron it writes me that there is not usb connection and i have such kind of problem, but zune works perfectly.
4) operating system: Windows 7
please someone help me how to download and use marketplace apps to install without failure. I have done everything, as it was in instructions.

Just a Curious Question

I have a dev unlocked + interop unlocked LG quantum (did it with apphub through dreamspark for free) and in the MFG menu there are tons of options, I stumbled across one that is strange, can anyone tell me what the values here do: Factory Menu > Engineer Menu > Other Setting > Edit Security Policy. I was just curious, perhaps it has something to do with how secure your phone is, but does anyone know for sure?

Locked but Unlocked?
I had done the MFG Unlock form your post earlier today and completed it fine.
I m having a LG quantum running on Mango, 7.10.7720
I am also having an issue of getting system Crashed regularly (the phone restarts automatically).
Now coming to the case, i unlocked the Phone using MFG tools, and changed the Input data as said.

After the Unlock i installed XAPDeployX found on XDA,
and when i try to install a xap, (Filemanager)
i get this:

Updated 7.8 with SevenEighter, lost "jailbreak"

First of all, sorry if there's already threads explaining this, I couldn't find them.
I just updated my Samsung Focus to 7.8 using the SevenEighter, was so easy, just a click and it made all the 5 updates automatically to my phone, amazing :laugh:
Now the problem is, I lost my "jailbreak" or unlock, I dont how it's correctly called in WP. I suddenly got my unlocked apps revoked with little messages that appeared saying so. Is there any way to keep having the unlock in WP 7.8?

You should be able to simply redo the unlock. I followed the instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
In brief
1. Install Windows Phone SDK (I updated it to support WP7.8) - note that this is a big file from Microsoft
2. Download Interop Unlock by Heathcliff74 v2.xap
3. Connect phone and start Zune. Use the Deployment Tool from the SDK (mine is located in Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.1\Tools\XAP Deployment) to deploy the interop to your phone
4. Disconnect phone and start the unlock
5. Once successfully unlocked, use the Samsung Network Profile app to ensure everything works (e.g. MMS, data, etc)

I am trying to make 3rd step but the deployer gives me this error: 0x89740006. And if I try to do it with the screen unlocked it gives me 0x89740005
any ideas?
