Hi!
So I bought this phone to replace my ATT tilt 2 so my wife can finally plays some games for Android she likes but right now I am confused as to why some rather simple games are running so slow.
Crush the Castle for example is very slow and kinda of glitchy.
Angry birds is better though.
Blow up is a bit sluggish too.
I know this is not going to match my Galaxy S but I was expecting a lot more from it. Is it the Cyanogen 6 slowing it down.
I installed Autokiller and noticed that there is only 30MB free...thats horrible.
Any recommendations amigos...I am completely new to this phone and currently have not even done the unlocking thing in case I have to sell it again.
I hope there is something like a faster Rom still compatible with games etc...my Eclair instead of Froyo..anything
Thanks!
You can try Cyanogen 5.0.8 and swe if its any better. Its most likely due to CM 6 as I was also having issues with it running slow but it may not. I've never played any of he mentioned games so I can't for sure say. Make a nandroid backup and try a different ROM. If you have the same issue you can go back to CM 6.

Is there a stickie anywhere on how to flash roms here? I now know how to do my Tilt2 and a little on my Galaxy S but I am clueless with this one.
Basically you download the ROM you want to use and copy it to your SD card without putting it in any folders. Turn your phone off and boot into recovery by holding home+power. There's a section called wipe, go in there and wipe system/data, dalvik-cache, and your cache. Go back to the main menu where another section is called flash zip from SD. Go there and you should see the .zip file for the ROM that you copied to your SD card. Just hit it and foplow the on screen directions. Some ROM require that you flash more than one zip file so read carefully. It example, CM 5.0.8 requires that you flash one zip for the ROM and then another for Google apps (like the market).

Thanks a ton...I will read on some more.
Though I've experienced problems with CM6, I don't think it's the cause of problems with Crush the Castle. I ran the app on the stock sense ROM and it was still very slow.
It could be that the At&t Tilt doesn't have enough memory to play the game at an ideal pace. Such simple games in our opinions could be games that take up way more memory than your phone has. So I'm guessing it's the phone's amount of memory that is the problem.

Actually the question is about the My Touch 3G...I feel that this ROM is something messed up with this installation I mean, this phone barely has 30MB or Ram when it boots... I am still trying to flash but having issues with the nandroid back up process.
Whats wrong with running Nandroid?
Did you went threw 'performance options' in cyanogenmod 6.0?
Try to enable "JIT". It was off in my standard settings.
You can read some more on it there: android-developers.blogspot.com/2010/05/dalvik-jit.html
Cyanogen 6.0 with JIT is an outstanding speed improvement for my HTC Magic.
I will try that tonight...thanks guys!
Gzames like Asphalt 6 are totally screwed up in a way that the car just cannot be controlled! It seems like the game is not able to be controlled by the gyroscope? Even a few other apps are working erratically bbecause of the acc.meter! I am running taboonay 2.2 with the 3.7 honeyvillain kernel.

I just love it when people mix, and match ROMs, and kernels, have problems, then (amazingly) complain about issues.
Try the thread where you downloaded the ROM or the kernel, as the authors of either might be nice enough to help you.
Just a suggestion?
I just realised that the apk is for some lg phone and then definitely the game isnt goihg to behave normally!
Hi all,
for the last couple of days i've been thinking about giving CM7 a try. i've only ever used stock based roms so far and just wanted to hear peoples thoughts on the comparisons between CM7 and stock SE roms and what sort of experiences people have had with CM7.
many thanks
tom
basically both are ok but if you want the most gamepad compatibility stick with the stock SE firmware as CM7 tends to have more issues

CM7 basically removes the playstation from your playstation phone, i've tried CM7 a few times, but always gone back to stock.

I really like cm7 but not being able to play ea games or gameloft games with touchpads on cm7 was a deal breaker for me.

I don't know what your talking about. I can play EA and Gameloft games on CM7 just fine. Feels no different than stock.

So would you reckon that its not worth putting on given that i'll lose the features of the phone that were the main reason for me getting it in the first place mate?

Yeah thats the conclution i came too, on the other hand, if you don't game that much, CM7 is super fast and has some great features!

It's not that dramatic, you can keep playing emulators and many current games, without any issue. It's a bummer for Gameloft and EA games though.
i like stock more because touchpads are not fully working on cm7
thanks everyone, been reading thru some of the posts on the cm7 thread and people seem to have random glitches that, although they can also happen on stock, have swayed me towards sticking with stock firmwares. add to that the possibility that the touchpads will be iffy at best. again, thanks to everyone who took the time to reply and offer their views on the subject
tom
p.s. the leaked ics rom had nothing to do with what i decided on. honest guv
Interesting thread.
I was going to switch over to a custom rom but this has kind of put me off.
Is this just for CM7? (regarding controls)
I have this phone only because of the controls, but feel like I'm not getting the best out of it with the stock rom. What rom should I be looking at if any?
Thanks!
I got fed up with the amount of bloatware and things I never used running in the background, so I gave the FreeXperia PROJECT rom a go, so far I'm loving it.
The only issue is the touchpads BUT there are games that have that driver built in (Age of Zombies, THE DEAD: Chapter One), apart from GTA3 I've yet to find a game I like that uses them (Dead Space and Fifa not my cup of tea).
I mainly use FPse (touchpads not needed) and have truly fallen in love with my Play.
Each to there own though
I just got CM7 FXP054 fully working, and overclocked to 1.6GHz, on my r800x last night. The touchpads don't work on GTA III, but do work every other game I play. I'm loving it and I'm getting suprisingly great battery life. I still wish r800x users had more roms and kernels to choose from.
the touch pads in gta3, the left one changes the radio station and the right one moves your aiming when your zoomed in the sniper rifle, so they are pretty useless, would be nice if you could move the camera or look behind, maybe steer.
ive been thinking about flashing since i want to overclock to improve gta3 and just have a basic functions, never tried CM before, does doom kernel have working touchpads?

I tried GTA 3 while on CM7 and it didn't even recognise when the control pad was slid out thus forcing you to use on screen controls, may have been fixed in recent builds though, really hope that touchpads get fixed asap, as soon as they do, CM7 is my daily driver forever!
This is with FXP054
There are things about CM7 that I love: the non-sony themes throughout, customisation options built into the ROM, custom kernel (could NOT get custom kernel working on my stock ROM) AND MY BELOVED CRT LOCK ANIMATION
There were three issues for me though that stop me from using CM7:
1. Battery life is atrocious! I can actually see the battery percentage dropping during normal use, nothing out of the ordinary running and it just drains, from 15 minutes of facebook, 10 minutes of twitter, 1 hour of watching shows with Moboplayer the battery had 20% left from a full charge 4 hours ago. With stock ROM the battery will be about 65% after all that (daily routine)
2. Sound output just sucks. I plug the phone into my car stereo for my drive to/from work, no matter how much I play with the equaliser and all of the sound settings audio playback sounds bad. The bass is distorted and it's a lot quieter than stock ROM. I experienced this same sound output phenomenon with a different handset running CM7 so I think it's a CM issue
3. Automatic screen brightness doesn't seem to work at all

The only problem of these that I'm experiencing is the last one. The auto-brightness is all over the place. My battery life is a little bit less but not enough to bother me, and I'm guessing that's from my overclock.
I started using CyanogenMod7 in Febuary last year. When I got my Play, I messed around with Stock ROM, and while it was slick, bloatware free and fast, and I was impressed, it lacked CM's little tweaks I had to have. The dodgy touchpad support is a nuiscance, but a minor one.

Noone besides you is able to. I gave the ROM you claim works with these games a try, and it didn't work at all for me.
I choose CM7 over stock since I don't play any games that are broken on CM. Would be nice if GTAIII worked, but it doesn't work well with stock, so I can give up that ghost until Rockstar better supports our device.
I've a rooted KF with CM7 barebones and I've bought this device primarily for gaming, so I'm loving this ROM.
However, I do want to use other apps such as XDA forum app and browsing/reading apps. But some of these apps don't seem to be stable on CM. The irony especially is that the XDA app keeps crashing whenever I log in. So I can only browse the forum as a guest from my KF.
Now are there any gamers out there who are able to play games smoothly on a stock or stock rooted KF? I think especially games like Frontline Commando or Modern Combat 3 are heavy on the resources and if they play well on the Stock KF, then I should be happy with it.
Any inputs? Are there ones that really prefer the Stock ROM over CM7 for reasons other than stability - for reasons such as performance for instance?
Also, if I have a rooted stock KF and the anroid market, then are all the apps/games on the Market visible and installable? I am asking this since the CM7 spoofs Galaxy Tab to ensure compatibility.
I use MIUI 2.1.20 to play NOVA, Modern Combat, Shadow Gun, etc... I haven't found a single app that doesn't work (I've been using it for 6 days). Hope that helped! Feel free to send me a message if you wanna know more.
I'm running rooted stock and am able to play shadowgun without a hitch.

Have you tried GTA3 and Sonic CD?
well... xda isnt stable on stock either. on rooted, without modifying build.prop, it wont show 75% of the games you mentioned. cm7 is definetly a better option.

I've tried GTA III but not sonic CD
Just to throw in my two cents... while I do like the customizations that are possible with CM7 and ICS I find that modified stock is more stable and, for my usage, better battery life.
You should try a Xbox 360 or a PS3 for actual gaming. Just saying...

Because the PS3 and Xbox fit great in your coat pocket for on-the-go.... (rolls eyes).
I've had pretty good luck with the MoDaCo rom. You get the advantages/stability of stock with everything under the hood modded, including the build.prop, market access, etc. It's ran everything I've thrown at it so far.
Thanks all for your inputs. I went to MoDaCo from CM7-Barebones as I wanted to try the stock feel. The stock Kindle is way way better for reading thanks to the various font size and typography features.
Even the games ran quite well on the MoDaCo and I was quite happy all these days as everything was working without a glitch.
However, when I wanted to play some gameloft games - I have purchased Modern Combat and Nova series, then poof... they don't appear on the market. I even changed the build.prop but no go. MoDaCo says they have the tweak that will show the Fire as Galaxy Tab on the market for more compatibility but even that didn't work.
So today I am back to CM7 and glad to see that the apps I want show up on market. Need to play around and see how this goes. Sad that I will be missing out on the reader experience though.
I am running CM7 with ravens kernel and play many of the same games you mentioned without issue. I had to download the modified build.prop but have not had any issues. Battery life is excellent and since ravens kernel overclocks performance is good.
try modaco custom rom with ravens kernel. It handled all the games I've thrown at it. I get like 2400-2500 quadrant scores from ravens kernel compared to 2000 stock kernel. So if you want the fastest stock experience I say go for that.

I'm on GR6 but think I'm using a stock kernel. Do you have a link to Raven's Kernel and some install instructions?
Also, what launcher do you use with MoDaCo ROM as I can't get ADW to run (immediately FCs).
Here's the link to the kernel.

Hi
I recently rooted my mytouch 4g because the old firmware on it was just aweful. It was slow as hell and the battery usage was just crap. I was advised by my roommate to root my phone and install the latest version of ICS out there, so i thought to myself that it might actually fix my phone.
So i download a cyanogenmod 9 copy of ICS from the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562316
I found it to be very awesome and smooth and everything. I havent been able to find major issues with the build, until I tried to play games on it. I am much into playing games on my phone like the rest of us. But after installing games such as temple run and my personal favorite, unblock me, i was able to see that the screen looses complete responsiveness when the games are turned on. I tap the screen so I can start playing, but nothing actually happens.
Playing games on my phone are very important to me, I mean, whats the purpose of getting a smart phone if we cant run tasks on it.
Any comment would be very much appreciated.
Oh, and thanks for the dev team who is responsible for making such an awesome ROM.

it's trouble with the ROM itself, same issue appeared in zipsnet version of ICS. You should try Dirty shot of awesomeness or the ROM mentioned above
as far as problem with games the only games I had trouble with the ics roms have been draw something, King pirate, and RS2012 but it has been only the display stops working and stuff like that. On the previous zip rom 4.01 every game I played was alright except the 4.02 need a patch with zip should come out with it soon

Yeah, this build, i would say, is about 90% finished. Everytime i forget that im running a lot of apps in the background, the phone stops responding, and sometimes even resets. How is this new rom, if i decide to actually go with it, does it mean I have to wipe everything I had on it first?
