Lulz. That's all I have to say - though I don't know who I'm lulzing at. Is it Apple, for their complete BS lawsuit, or is it Samsung, for TouchWiz which is **** and a half?
F****** apple sueing everyone, next hes going to sue the users for not using an apple product. lol
As much as I hate these types of lawsuits, I do hate the way manufacturers have blatantly copied iOS elements. TouchWiz is crap, and "being like the iPhone" is not what is cool. Enough.
Its all about the Benjamin's baby!

Unfortunately, Apple has such enormous orders that if Samsung said FU, they'd be hurting themselves more than Apple. Apple could go to anyone and get what they need - hell, they could build their own fabs and do it themselves.
Jeez apple. They're not even THAT similar! The only similarity is the app drawer with the box around the icons! Big whoop!

That's cool. If Facebook can now redesign its own servers, Apple can make absolutely all its own phone and tablet components too. Meanwhile Samsung will supply all Apple's competitors and the Apple shareholders can ask Black Turtleneck God why cash reserves have dropped so precipitously so fast.
Apple is either going to have to sue everybody (oh wait, maybe they are) since all seem equally guilty to me for ripping them off, or actually try to compete through the innovation they're supposedly so good at.
i agree they copied iOS a little too closely. unfortunatly for apple most people hate touchwiz

I am going to have to disagree on that, while Apple has a tremendous amount of money at their disposal, they can't afford to go a year or two without making a phone/ipod while their factories are built. They rely on outside sources for pretty much everything, to attempt to become completely self reliant would be a bone-headed move and would absolutely kill their stocks.
They are not going to build their own factories...its VERY hard and expensive...most just buy the factories from others and recycle them. Most likely though Apple will just go with someone else in worst case senario..like LG, Sony, Toshiba etc..
Apple makes Samsung electronics biggest customer, a swap would hurt both of them tremendesly.
They are not going to split their business over this though...its far too insignificant...it might even be on purpose to have Samsung and Apple cross license each others patents and then let Apple have leverage over other Android makers...like M$ sued HTC that time..
Apple is a more innovative company than Samsung and everyone owes Apple a lot. There, I said it.
Now that I said it, the pathetic thing about this suit is that by the time Sammy has to pay up and/or dump Touchwiz--which they would do without many tears--and Apple has wasted its own time and money, iOS 7.0 will be out which will be holographic 3D scratch n sniff. ;-)

Apple has never built their own silicon.
I like apple and all, but geez... how many "innovative" ways really are there to show application shortcuts?
Apple makes solid products, no doubt, and you definitely get what you pay for (albeit at a premium price), but I think they are going a little crazy lately. I mean, c'mon, suing amazon for calling it the "amazon appstore" because apple coined the term "appstore" first? really apple? is that really stealing your thunder?

Hello everyone,
i guess now the S2 will receive some major updates to change the phone software entirely cos of the lawsuit from Apple. The new update already has a new music icon, please read the new above itll explain more.
Samsung has nailed the hardware and i really do hope they can do the same with the software eg touch Wiz which is a terrible UI.
they could have learnt to make something like the sense Ui which is much better.
Apps integration is so important for smartphones to work in harmony, not many phones can do that includng Multitasking and push notifications which are so important. preview widgets could have been improved to give more info to a user without having the need to tap so many times.
Its time for Samsung to bring in some great developers to help them with great UI to nail the market
Apple developers are only human!!!
The topic is a little misleading (the same goes for most of the headlines in the tech press). Apple will not be able to see unreleased Samsung hardware, only the legal firm handling this case for Apple. That means (as mentioned in the article you link to) that Apple's engineers and in-house legal team will not be given access to the unreleased products.
Apple might very well lose the case as well, so I don't expect any drastic changes in the near future as these cases tend to go on for a couple of years.
Would be funny if Samsung terminated their contract with Apple though, think there would be a slight delay to their new products if they were suddenly missing almost all the hardware parts
Maybe this is why the US s2 launch date was postponed?

I dont know why they have to fight with each other rather than working on better software for the user. They work with each other and samsung provides some hardware to Apple, as a company Samsung totally rocks but probably lacks vision cos they dont have a steve jobs sat there. Probably. The event was cancelled suddenly late last Monday (May 16). The judges ruling came out last Wednesday (May 18). Samsung's lawyers probably had an indication of how the judge was going to rule. Samsung probably figured it was better to delay announcing new products if there was a chance that Apple could win an injunction against their release.
It appears like Samsung has 30 days to provide Apple with the products in question (Galaxy S2, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Infuse 4G, and 4G LTE Droid Charge). Who knows how much time Apple's outside counsel gets to review the products before determining if they want to file an injunction. At this rate, who knows when the U.S. will see the S II...if at all if an injunction is granted.

Sense rocked in the early days of Android when the interface was bland and lacked credible home alternatives, but now it sucks big time. Not that I'm a TW4 fan, but it's far less intrusive and easy to bypass so for that reason I'll rather have it.
Back to the topic.... yeah interesting case and without going back in time to decide who did one first I feel the interfaces bear too much of a resemblance.

I agree they need to be careful, but boycott. Never. Apple just SHIFT TOO many units for ANY manufacturer to turn down. (unless it's for logical reasons like they can't meet demand, but i doubt Apple would even go to them if that was the case)
And may I just add, I really hate apple. -_-
Hate their business ethic and I just hate they/he runs the company. (Not going to lie, it's clever and really wise because it brings in HUGE volumes of sales) but it still despise it!
Patent everything them make, sue everyone that has any similarities what-so-ever. Again it's clever but so annoying.

Not sure about profits, but it looks like Apple was responsible for about 4% or 5.6B of Samsung's revenue in 2010. Samsung's overall net income is about 10% of revenues, so Apple probably provides somewhere in the ballpark of $500 million of net income to Samsung.

I have compared touch Wiz and iOS ,Xperia UI,Sence UI.
IMO TouchWiz does looks like rip off from iOS. For example compare clock app , TouchWiz Clock app is exact replica of iOS. Xperia UI,Sence UI looks different. Similarly many other parts of TouchWiz resembles iOS. Even the design of Galaxy S looks very similar to Iphone 3GS/3G. HTC, SE, Motorola phone looks different. But Samsung phone somehow resembles Iphone.

Yeah, and actually, Apple is copying Android's notification bar for it's iOS 5 and nobody even points that out! Personally, after using both iPhone and Android (Galaxy S), I feel both are completely different and I don't think anyone "copied" the other as they give different experiences overall. One should never go just by appearance!
Unfortunately there is only so many ways you can design a touchsceen phone, and an app screen.
Their entire claim pivots on broad, sweeping claims like their ownership of "a field of square icons with rounded corners" - it's stupid, vexatious, and anti-competative.
Their entire claim about copying the physical shape of the iPad is also based on it being a flat tablet with rounded corners. It's ridiculous.
It's not the phone, this is Standard Operating Procedure for Apple. How many of us remember how the Apple Mac got its start? Apple stole the Graphical User Interface from Xerox. Then a few years later they sued Digital Research Corporation because their Ventura Publisher product for the PC contained a Graphica User Interface. The fun thing about this story is that Digital Research licensed their GUI... from Xerox!
if you cant beat em, sue em.
"products that blatantly imitate the appearance of Apple's products to capitalize on Apple's success."
the truth is that samsung copied the interface alot cos "ppl" the great zombie masses of ppl want something they recognize.
but its true.. samsung really copied ios quite alot on the UI..
but the way handles it is un-capitalistic.. the whole idea behind the world they live in is that there are competition that will copy your stuff as closly they can if its a good solution and if it is not they will make something better or try to.
if apple dont like it they can move to north korea.. they can probebly get excusive rights to be the only phone for sale there

Absolutely agree. The iPhone is derived from HTC Touchphones that appeared on the market 1 year earlier (also with the color white and rounded edges). The iPad is derived on Archos Pads that arrived on the market several years earlier!
As you say, this is what good companies in a capatilistic societies do: improve on competitor products or on their own products.
There was no need for samsung to shake their a*ss 3 times to sh*t straight.

When this nonsense first appeared, it was revealed that samsung had developed a ui very similar to the iphone and unveiled it almost a year before the first iphone was released. I'm writing on behalf of Apple to insist that you cease and desist from making ludicrous claims about Apple's rights to make ludicrous claims about stuff they stole...erm...invented.
This is in itself in breach of retrospectively granted patent no 63578929, 'Patent to claim to have invented stuff (and we ain't even lying) 1895'.
The above patent is valid under Apple's patented patent system, patented by Apple Patents Inc in 4258BC.
If they stuck to saying 'well we didn't invent it but we implemented it really well, albeit in a somewhat restrictive manner', you'd have more sympathy, but this persistent reinvention of facts is just tedious.
Why would anyone buy a phone because it looks like the iphone and how many actually use touchwiz anyway, i got this phone as it is the best phone on the market and the best screen simple as.
It's funny, on a simple google search you can find tons of chinese/korean iphone and ipad replicas that look exactly the same, but Apple can't be bothered about them. Of course, you can ignore obscure producers whose phones are manufactured in the forests by panda bears cause if you sue them and you win you get 1 cart of bamboo leaves as compensation. Why not sue a top selling company with the hope that you will get a lot of money and at the same time causing them distress and huge losses. It's all about the competition and Apple relies on less conventional ways of trying to catch up / stay on top.
See what Steve **** says here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW0DUg63lqU
More of the same nonsense from Apple. They sued HTC a while back, see any shortages of HTC phones?
I wouldn't buy anything apple, I detest them as a company and don't see why all the iSheep like them so much. They are nowt special and ridiculously over-priced. I loved my Galaxy S but my Galaxy S2 is just SO much better. I'll probably get the Galaxy S3 after this.
i think iphone should not change..apple aims to sell to brainless people and it is an affordable target.
In my opinion the right question is: what android should do to sell to brainless people?

True. So since almost one year ago the iphone 4 came out in black, a few months ago the newest was in white! What's next? Transparent (cool!)? And raise it another 100 bucks? Here in Spain the WHITE 32 gig model is 50 euros more expensive than its black counterpart. They're charging more .... FOR COLOR!? isn't that some sort of racism? lol.
Its just business and apple is the master of it...for now.
Steps to a successful apple product launch:

2) Sue them, and get an injunction on the sales of the product

i hate apple, and the fact their marketing seems to work on so many people...
Apple has been known to release it's products in a period of the year when most do not release hardware.this is to enable iphone to be the only hype on tv, as opposed to many companies all advertising their new gadget and sharing the crowd.
Also, Apple makes tons of money through a marketing technique it's a master for.i don't blame them.
Problem now is, they've been selling low spec gadgets at premium prices while the others were sleeping. Now Samsung is up, releasing a Super amoled phone, micro sd slot, bluetooth working with all devices, wireless sync, keyboard integrated voice control and the list goes on. This is a SERIOUS treat even to the most robust apple marketing techniques. They are therefore trying to clear the best phone out of the way in preparation for the iphone 5 arrival.
They've updated ios by copying lots of android functions and a release with SGS2 on the way will prompt alot of comments like ' this resembles such and such function of the SGS2', instead of the other way round as had been the norm.this has the potential of dilluting or destroying apple's brand name, something they are ready to pay any price to avoid.
If they band SGS2, tab 10.1 in the US, samsung should also request for all iphones to be taken off shelves in europe, korea etc, when they win their own court case.

Apple is really worth burning down.they sued a company for using a GUI on their software without license. The company allowed apple to take them to court.in court they showed that they had payed licensing fees to xerox, who were the rightful owners of the GUI apple had copied and now claimed to own. Watchout for them patenting the android notification centre and all the open source ideas they've stolen to later sure them next year.

The company allowed apple to take them to court.in court they showed that they had payed licensing fees to xerox, who were the rightful owners of the GUI apple had copied and now claimed to own. Watchout for them patenting the android notification centre and all the open source ideas they've stolen to later sure them next year.

I believe el-G already has a kind of patent on the notification system, as I am sure I've seen the document
I think if it's true, it would be a good time for all android users to stand up in court as witnesses and say this was the reason they bought android
Then, apple are in doo-doo...

Hey,
I want to know what do you think about the "war" between Apple & Samsung!
For all the people who dont know whats going on:
Apple indict Samsung, because the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 looks like the Apple Ipad, and it has same hardware parts and the UI is partly the same(said by apple)
Now apple has won this war - in the whole EU samsung arent allowed to sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (propably they are allowed in netherland.. the court still processes)
Update! Apple also indict Motorola because the Xoom, same causes.. (Germany)
Here are two statements about the decision of the court (Source= http://www.computerbase.de/news/wir...msung-zum-verkaufsverbot-des-galaxy-tab-10.1/) :
Apple
It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging. This kind of blatant copying is wrong, and we need to protect Apple's intellectual property when companies steal our ideas.

Samsung
Samsung is disappointed with the court’s decision and we intend to act immediately to defend our intellectual property rights through the ongoing legal proceedings in Germany and will continue to actively defend these rights throughout the world. The request for injunction was filed with no notice to Samsung, and the order was issued without any hearing or presentation of evidence from Samsung. We will take all necessary measures to ensure Samsung’s innovative mobile communications devices are available to customers in Europe and around the world. This decision by the court in Germany in no way influences other legal proceedings filed with the courts in Europe and elsewhere.

What do you think about this?
You can do the poll and post your standpoint here, or even both
Greets,
Lenn
Apple hasn't won the war - they only shot a soldier in his leg - and I hope they never will.
please add sources to your statement quotes..
I thought Samsung built Apple's UI.
Sorry chulri, i did
Update: Apple also indict Motorola because of the Xoom, same causes like Samsung..
Aren't there a lot of tablets that look like that? not just samsung? don't all tablets pretty much look the same? lol
Why doesn't Dell sue Apple because their macbook looks like every single laptop out there?
This is silly! Apple is worried of a little competition!

Yes it is silly, but it is not a little competition:
http://www.businesswire.com/news/ho...e-Rises-Top-Worldwide-Smartphone-Market-Grows says:
2Q11/2Q10 Change
Apple +141.7% = 20.3 million (from 8.4 million in 2Q10)
Samsung +380.6% = 17.3 million (from 3.6 million in 2Q10)¨
this is serious and apple doesn't like to take it

Cool facts chulri!;-)
I think apple was(and is from facts) just the tablet leader because, most of the people think "Ipad" when they hear something about tablets pcs and such.. nearly 100 persons ask me if my 101 is an ipad..
those numbers don't represent tablets, they represent the smart phone market
I never really liked Apple.
I mean, they basically take something that already existed (Tablets are just popular because Apple created one) and sell it like it's something they created themselves.
Though I have not much to worry about concerning a lot of Samsung's products (which I think rock), because the ban isn't active in the Netherlands (yaay).
Dympy.
I go with Samsung ALL the way, period! I'm the anti-Apple kind of person that will never buy or own anything Apple.... ever! You can give me something Apple-made and I'll turn around and sell it faster than you can blink!
In my opinion anyone who owns anything Apple-made is a iTard. Apple is just too mainstream and like many others have said .... those "iTards" have mistaken whatever non-Apple product for an Apple-made product such as an Archos 101 for an iPad like Lennb mentioned. It's ridiculous, Apple really IS just too scared to have any other company competing against them and come significantly close in technology achievements thus contributing to that company's profits. Apple stuff just sucks helium balloons ..... great until the fun of it wears off. All I can say is ..... damn Apple to Hell! To those of you who are iTards and/or work for Apple, tell me why they have gone through 2 tablets already and STILL not have factory-included Adobe Flash support OR a full-size USB port built-in eh?! If I'm going to buy a tablet I want it to be completely unlocked and have the capability to root it so I can hack the **** out of it and do exactly what I want at any time. If I buy it and it's mine I shouldn't be restricted in any aspect!
My favorite saying for Apple: "An Apple is only so good until it rots." ... Which I'm hoping is soon.
