[Q] TV out for milestone 2 - Milestone 2 General

Hey guys I´ve searched all the web for a way to conect m2 to tv, but I had no sucess. Milestone 1 uses an AV cable and there´s a model called X720 that uses HDMI out. I don´t understand why our model can´t conect to a tv! There´s a way?
[]´s

Nope, there is no way, i tryed out the Nokia AudioVideo Cable, i tryed USB->HDMI Cables, i tryed every goddam cable and searched the web for days...
Yet i had no success in finding anything helpful, so i assume, ITS NOT POSSIBLE :/

Only DLNA with WiFi. There was one thread about it

please check previous threads before posting a new thread. there is no way you can use a tv out on this phone. if you wanna watch anything on your TV from your phone, ur best best would be DLNA, or your USB connection.

It´s very sad there´s no connection availabe...
I know how to use DNLA, but I can´t stream live videos to it.
I want to send megavideo stream from M2 to xbox 360 dnla... but i don´t know how.

thats a tough one. im not sure if such an app exists, but judging by the youtube download apps, you could search for one that can download flash videos. after dloading them, save them to your SD card, and you can play them by directly connecting your phone to the USB port on your TV, or into your xbox.
if there is no such app, download the intended video through your computer into ur MS2 and then play it on ur 360 perhaps?

this is correct. You can download a flash video then streaming to dlna devices. But Im looking for an app that connect directly into dlna network dispensing dowloads. Something like browsing my M2 screen into TV.
Just to save time, because in Brazil network speed is a $%#$.
I don´t know if this kind of transmission is possible but is a good idea for a new android app $$$

im afraid i wouldnt know of any such apps mate, sorry. your could post a thread (if there arent any threads already) on the android software development and post it as an app suggestion, and see if any developers get back to you there.
here's the link to that forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=524
hope a developer there would be able to assist you

i´ll try! thank you

Milestone2 just can't use HDMI or any other means to get a TV out

Buy a new USB storage compatible TV with digital media playback function,
Connect Milestone 2 with USB Storage Mode,
Play media files in the SD card via TV,
Done.
Just kidding , @agent008my is right.

I found an app that function according to my needs. It´s called imediashare. It work with several streaming servers including youtube. It works making M2 a proxy server so you can use a dlna to open. It´s very cool but the software need to include morer servers like megavideo.

Thanks for your feedback. I read the description of the said application on the market. Seems pretty sweet. Obviously as stated more sites will be supported in the future. Hopefully they would include megavideo for your convenience

Any way to use Incredible as webcam?

I'm using Ubuntu, but I'm guessing that isn't as much of a limitation as what Android gives us.
Probably the answer is "no" but it never hurts to ask. There doesn't seem to be an option in the PC Connection type that would even allow any software on a computer to access the hardware of the device aside from accessing files.
while i dont know of such an app, i dont think its impossible or even hard to write such an app. there are video recording apps, so all u gotta do is send that data over the usb, maybe using debugging mode.
that being said, i am too overworked to write an app like that and i have a webcam, but its an idea for any budding android developer.
have you tried the app ustream?
The app called QIK is not really a webcam but allows you to stream videos live from your device where you can have anyone you choose watch them online. Search for it in the Market it's free. Just a thought.
found this, but i can't get it to work on my nexus.
http://vikram.eggwall.com/computers/watchtower.html
http://vikram.eggwall.com/computers/watchtower-devel.html
but it is fully open sourced if anyone wanted to dig into it and see what's going on with it.
I'd think it would be pretty awesome if someone got this working.
Ustream.tv has an app to broadcast and another app to watch broadcasted streams. The best part about ustream is that it is also viewable within your Internet browser on incredible. Also for the app that broadcasts it has option to also record what you've broadcasted. I recommend checking it out.

[Q] Torrent Privacy

I have wanted to use WM Torrent for my HD2, now i use to download torrents from home, i had recently received a letter from my local service provider that my IP address was found with suspicious activity. i only downloaded old movies, and tv shows, nothing big, not like i was selling them., any way, so i was wondering, is there safe and secure way when using the "WM Torrent" app for the HD2? just want to be sure.

I guarantee you will stick out like a sore thumb if you start torrenting over your cellphone!
im with you. I turn my up/l down all the way trio slow up their effort. but I know that's not a fix all.
its a great app, how can we get it to work better!
on a side note, downloading torrents is not illegal at all, it is when you download warez and pirated movies and stuff like that when it becomes illegal.
ya,kinda figured i just download tv shows i miss cause of work and school, hate waiting 3 or 4 days for them to show up on website. ill give it a try, maybe look for a torrent privacy progran compatable for smartphones.
UseNet
You may want to look into UseNet (SSL Usenet).
There's a UseNet application for Windows Mobile called NZB Mobile.
if youre set on doing this, why not just tether your laptop to the phone or get a usb wifi stick if its a desktop and torrent using a full fledged client on a pc?
You're likely going to hit your 5gb monthly limit pretty quick
As stated previously, either look into Usenet, or purchase a VPN Subscription (cheaper than usenet). I have been using StrongVPN for a while now, and PPTP is perfectly fine for your needs (OpenVPN 2048 bit encryption is an overkill).
Torrents is not the way to go.
Really your best bet is to not download tv shows, I have been around since the AOL days of downloading, talking about private room .............., irc, etc.
Several people have told me they have received letters from their ISP, I do not understand, first off, I rarely use torrents.
Your best bet is to legally wait the extra days and just watch the tv show on the Networks website. If you're looking into watching your shows on your HD2, you may want to get a DVR that is capable of being hacked, at least that way you can download the shows you record to your PC, or better yet, get a TV Tuner card for your computer and record the shows directly to your hard drive.
Stay away from torrents and UseNet unless you plan to download LEGAL files.
Suprised the Mods that be are even allowing us to discuss this topic.
Good Luck, need any help looking for a good TV Tuner Card, let me know.

I in no way endorse or condone piracy in any way. I posted to offer methods that will keep the OP anonymous while downloading/browsing the internet. What he/she chooses to do with that is totally up to them. Nothing illegal has been discussed here, VPN's are perfectly legal.
a bit OT but if youre strictly downloading tv shows that just seems like a gray area to me, its content that was previously provided for free, and theres nothing illegal about recording tv broadcasts, and the networks generally provide the content for free on their websites after a period of time. I would kind of hope anyone that got dragged into court strictly over tv shows would have the case thrown out or just get a warning/slap on the wrist
Downloading movies and music is a whole nother beast in my opinon. Even though i hate the MPAA/RIAA with a passion, you deserve whats coming at you if youre downloading that content

[Random Guide] Hulu & Netflix on your Transformer (or on your big screen)

First off let me go ahead and say most of you probably already know that you can do this but I'm just trying to be safe and letting everyone know how easily it can be done (No rooting needed either for those of you that care). I just do it this way myself because I haven't really gotten around to downgrading and rooting yet and needed a way to watch hulu on my couch last night. Now back to the point.
Things that are needed:
1 MINI HDMI/HDMI cable (Only if you want to watch it on your tv like I did)
A PC or MAC (No linux support yet that I know of sorry) with decent hardware (gig of ram and a dual core should work fine =P)
Splashtop remote installed on your PC you will be using!!!! (GOOGLE IT)
A decent wifi connection (G works fine)
Now all that you have to do is go to the mycloud application, click my desktop and go to whatever your streaming site of choice is (say netflix since no one has it on here yet) and fire up whatever video your heart desires. Obviously if you want it on your TV you'll need the MINI HDMI/HDMI cable mentioned above and I recommend if you get a low framerate on the video you disconnect from your PC/MAC and set it to a lower resolution in the mycloud app on the tablet (click the edit button beside the computer of choice and its the bottom option).
My personal setup also involved a BT mouse so I didn't have to hold the tablet while changing videos and such and it worked quite nicely. All questions are welcome and please if anyone finds out a way to fix the cut out pixels on each side when using HDMI tell me via this thread or PM, Its driving me insane!
Sorry but remote desktop is not really a true method and has been mentioned before.

So you are streaming the screen of your PC while the PC streams the netflix video? Know a way to do this without needing another PC on in the house?

Yeah all you are doing basically is mirroring your computer screen. Sadly there isn't another way to do this that I know of. We will just have to use this method until Netflix decides that Honeycomb tablets deserves their app it seems.
Not a very good guide since this doesn't work if the PC and tablet aren't on the same network, and if I am at home anyways why not just watch it on my TV?

Considering you can watch it if you aren't on the same network with a little bit of setup (google splashtop port forwarding) and the TV setup part was mainly for Hulu as most devices require hulu+ to watch on the TV
Also, if you don't want to work through the port forwarding guides that are out there (idk why you wouldn't if its that big of a deal) splashtop has said they are working on getting it on the android side (its already on the iphone/ipad app). I wouldn't hold my breath though unless you want to actually pay for the splashtop app in the market.

Then don't use this and just wait for the Netflix app for Netflix? Enjoy waiting on that one though.
I use Play On.
If you have the time to config your computer and internet settings i would just use play on temporary until an app comes out for netflix.
However things you would need is
- PC (has to be on)
- You can either use it at home only or set your internet to allow outside connection then you can connect anywhere
- Play on Mobile App on Android
- Play on Desktop (PC)
http://www.playon.tv/playon
However, you can test it out as there is a 30 day trial premium .
But you would've to pay for the program license after the 30 days, which is the bad part.
However you can link netflix, hulu, pandora, mtv, comedy central, cartoon network, etc.
Something to check out if you are interested.

I had forgotten about playon actually sadly I would rather not pay for something I already pay for (when it comes to the netflix) and on the Hulu side I'll just use a hacked flash apk. Thanks for the suggestion though.

[Q] streaming media over network..

Having a rooted Nook (CM7), I'm looking to stream video to it via DLNA. On my PC, I have the application "PS3MediaServer".
My Thunderbolt has the "Connect Media" application, I was curious if there is an app/method of doing the same on the Nook (or really any other non-sense Android device)?
Any suggestions?

I've done alot of research on the subject and I would always end up getting discouraged because idiots write these crazy bad reviews on much of the software available that's perfectly capable. Finally I settled on TVersity and it works great. I can access all my media from any one of my devices but most importantly my Nook with CM7.
There may be better options. I wouldn't know. I didn't need to check into it any further.

But, what Android app would you use...? If you are looking for a DLNA provider application that serves on your PC, I would check out "PS3MediaServer". Awesome application and works on anything that accepts DLNA.
I'm just looking for an app that plays DLNA, not the server app.
I'm sorry. I was just trying to provide a solution that worked for me and solved my issue which was similar to yours. I used to have the PS3media server but I stopped using it because of TVersity. I had no idea it could stream to android as well. I'd like to try it again. Anything I should know in regards to setting it up. I'd appreciate it.
So are you just looking for a player? Have you tried MoBo Player? I use it for everything now?
Or I'm thinking now your looking for an app to navigate your media so you can select to stream. I would have thought you would use your browser for that. Sorry. Search the market for an app called Skifta. I just downloaded it and gave it a run. Much more elegant compared to my browser method and finds all my media servers. I'm happy to say it works great with PS3Media server so far.
I have aVia on my Thunderbolt, and it's pretty slick. I am running eyeballer's CM9 nightlies on the Nook, and haven't been able to get anything to see the DLNA server there. The server itself is an older Gentoo box with minidlna running. Runs solid to the Logitech Revue, too.

[Update 13/Oct] Beta Testers Wanted for WiFi Direct app

Hi guys,
Google market version is the most up-to-date.
Soon to remove the BETA tag out of it.
New Link as of 13th of October!!
Ok, file handling should be spot on now.
I've tried several different ways of sending from good sources and bad sources and I reckon I cover all the bases.
To organise some stuff I've removed the internationalisation, sorry, for now is english only, soon I'll put back the other languages.
If I managed to put the tutorial on it on the next few hours I'll update it as V0.4 on the google play, but I'm not sure it's going to happen, maybe tomorrow.
so the plan now is:
- tutorial
- tips n tricks
- logging for missing intents (maybe)
- future feature? NFC? bump? who knows.
have fun!
New Link as of 08th of October!!
Hi again guys,
I found out what was wrong on the file on the 7th, it was not the transmission or connection or even anything WiFi related. It's just that the files can come from several different sources I'm not properly dealing with them.
So here's the deal, this new build, I just blocked the files the app is not handling properly (most likely from 3rd parties galleries, and should work as expected on local files from the stock gallery). Files that are currently not handling properly should just close the app and pop-up a quick message saying "Can't handle this 'Share' at the moment, we're working on it!".
so let's recap:
- local media files from the gallery should work
- connection process is still and will always be hardware/manufacturer dependent and it might or not work.
- transmission (once passes connection) should work rock solid. Including canceling transmission midway through and also once completed tapping on the notification to open the media.
What I'll work on next:
- proper handling of every possible file/intent
- include a tutorial that will appear the 1st time the app is opened.
- a tips & tricks section with what I learned until now on what's best to get it connected.
and after that we should be in a V1.0... does it sound ok?
have fun!
New Link as of 07th of October!!
In this one I completely redid the transmission process and it's ROCK SOLID !!!!
The version on the market if you try really big videos they'll eventually fail, with this new protocol I've transferred HUGE 1.7giga video file without any problem.
Furthermore there's TONs of optimisations on the transfer speed that you won't see on this version, but it's already on the file and it will be unlocked by the future paid version that give around 2 to 3 times after transfer times.
Before put this version into the market I'll include a tutorial and link to the youtube video, but you guys can already test it.
PS.: also there's not much internationalization on this one, there some parts that language will be lacking, I'm aware of it don't need to come tell me.
Have fun!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've doing an open beta testing of the first and only (until now) WiFi Direct sharing app available in the Google Play.
here is the link for it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.budius.WiFiShoot
I just finished refactor most of the code and should be smooth stable now.
So I'm creating this thread to invite anyone that have a FORCE CLOSE to get a Logcat and post it here for me
Please also state if it was the Sender or Receiver, the phone manufacturer/model and which ROM you're running.
Please do not post if you try to connect but the other device fail to reply, or if you device reboots when you try to switch the WiFi Direct on.
Those problems are 100% unrelated to the App itself and it's direct related to the hardware and OS on it.
Developers info:
The WiFi Direct API is 100% with callbacks. So the app just requests a connection and wait for a callback. And sometimes the callback is "failed to connect".... why this happens? is up to the OS.. the OS is responsible to all the transactions and there's no API available for any app to interfere with the process.
Hi, Nice app! It didn't force close on me at all and the UI design has a good look and feel. I just tried it with my Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus (both stock 4.1.1) and it worked. However, when launching the app to receive you might want to add a help menu or something to tell you what to do on the other device otherwise people might think to share something you need to launch the app on both devices and then share from there (this is what I did at first because I didn't watch your video!)
Is there any way you can launch the app automatically on the receiving device when the other device tries to send something? Also tapping "Shoot" to receive something is slightly odd. "Receive" or "Receive Shoot" might be better.

Yeah, the help will definitely be necessary but at the moment I'm focusing on nailing the actual software functionality. Non nexus devices not always works so nicely.
When I started developing I though about the same (auto launching) but it can't be done, unfortunately, I wanted something liked the show on last year Google io for he ask. But no, I couldn't do it without taking over ALL WiFi direct transactions on the device, which I reckon it would be bad a behavior. Maybe in the future I'll thin about it as an option for the paid version.
About the shoot.... hmmmm..... it kinda feels better to have the confirmation on the receiver, but for sure feels like the text could be different, but then the "cool factor" of it is to have that single big button with a very simple and almost graphical SHOOT, that won't even be translated to other languages.
Something to think about it.

Great work, any plans to expand the functionality and maybe expand to share a wireless shared connection from your laptop using direct wifi?

Nice initiative, I am on evo 4g lte. I tried it with my laptop sony viao, installed to latest atheros utility which haves wifi direct interface.
wifi shoot found it, invited it, get connected.
I just tried to send a songs or 3gp file thru root explorer. without enabling wifi direct from setting.
In send option it shows wifi shoot. I clicked on wifi shoot.
wifi shoot connect to my laptop wifi direct. then nothing no transfer.
Great work. Very high potential. once again great initiative. Thanks.
I'm sorry but you misunderstood the function of the app.
Is a direct transfer from android device to Android device, and both devices must have the app installed. It has never been meant to be used with a laptop.

My Nexus 7 and S3 don't play wel together.
What does work is using the S3 as a hotspot and then run Samba on the Galaxy S3 (Root required)
Samba takes a while to activate.. but after it does you can browse your phone using the Nexus 7 and copy stuff... no limitations on specific file extansions either.
It work great... for a picture. But I want to transfert any file I want and Wifi Shoot! doesn't appear in "Send"/"Share" menu in ES file explorer or X-Port... What can I do ?
NFC pairing would be a great addition to this app! Maybe include it in a pro version of the app and charge a small fee? I'd definitely pay for it!

Can you both tell me which versions of the S3 you have? Some US variant or the international?
thanks.
Work great beetwin mu gnex and n7
Nice work bedalus, now we only need The ability to share every file, not only media from gallery
dropped by a jellybeans cup...
Just downloaded to both my N7 and my GNex.
I really need something like this for files. As of right now, I'm using WiFi Explorer. It works but this would be faster.
The version from the Google play store (v0.3.5) worked fine both ways with my Galaxy Nexus with JB and my bro's Galaxy Nexus with JB. We both had to looking at the program during pairing to get the notifications though.
I was able to transfer a 323 mb .mkv video file in 2:30 mins. Pretty good considering transferring the file originally to my phone took about 15 mins over wifi via a PC router.
By the way, is there any reason in particular you made it so you can only transfer pics and video files? The program would be much more useful if you could transfer any file type.
Can i use it between galaxy S and SIII?
Please, add all kind of file type. Not only image and videos, also others type (.pdf, .zip, .dat…).
Wifi shoot installed on i9100 and i9000, both devices on Rom ICS AOKP milestone 6. The process work fine only if I follow exactly the same steps on the demo video :
Receiver:
1- Open wifi shoot and wait
Sender:
2- Open the apps where the file to send is
3- Share via wifi shoot
4- wifi shoot apparears and select client to invite
Receiver:
5- Accept the invite
6- Click on big button shoot
Sending + receiving…
So, if we follow the guide of use, wifi shoot work fine. But please, add support for all kind of file type. Not only image and videos, also others type (.zip, .pdf…).
Please, continue to develop this great app, I hope one day you will be able to win money with it.
Wifi shoot are not still unique for wifi direct. There is also this apps, but not working at all for my devices.

Hi,
thanks for the reply and tests. Could you further explain, how else were you expecting it to work? DId you try some other way?
I'm currently working on a better protocol to make the transfers more reliable, after that is fine tuned I'll enable every file type, multiple files and photos that are synchronised from picasa.
wifi shoot! is a great idea ... but would be better to have some kind of server on the phone that allow to share any file to another phone or tablet. Something like an ftp server or upnp/dlna server. This way we wont have to send the files frome the phone, we will just need to request it from the other device.
I don't know how wifi direct works ... but if it works using TCP/IP the only thing we need is to know de wifi direct IP address of the phone to connect to any available ftp/smb/upnp server phone from the other phone/tablet connected via wifi direct ...
the problem is: the available servers will be bound to the external IP only or will accept requests from the wifi direct interface? maybe this willraise the need of a special server and client prepared to work via wifi direct ..
PS: sorry about my poor english
