Mobile Hotspot enabling - Atrix 4G General

I am on 1.5.7 AT&T Atrix unlocked and rooted on Fido network in Canada.
With Fido if you have data plan over 1GB, you are free to tether. However, when I try to turn on mobile hotspot, it says "validating Wi-Fi hotspot" and then gives me a notification: "Account not set up for WI-FI hotspot, to enable, go to att.com.mywireless"
What should I do to enable this on my phone?

Edit Build.prop I believe
Sent From My Gibgerblurred Phone

Well the phone is an unlocked AT&T phone so it wasn't meant for a Canadian Cell company. But go download Barnacle WiFi Tether. It works the same way the only difference is that the Hotspot has WAP2 and the Barnacle only has WAP. But it really doesn't matter since it is short-range signals

I had that problem.. repeatedly restarting my phone and turning wifi on/off got it to work.. also mine doesn't seem to start when near heaps of other wifi enabled devices such as 2 laptops and an iPhone 4. took it away to the other side of the room and it started almost instantly.. could be coincidence

If you open the build.prop file.in notepad++ there is a section for wifi tether it is set to 0 if you change it to 1 it should enable I will try today

I've got atrix 1.57 ulocked but not rooted yet-- on rogers- still checking to see how to use hotspot.
I can tether with Easytether.....
will keep trying.. not sure I want to go back to 1.26 to root it - waiting for better solution for now.
Will keep monitoring and post whatever I come up with.

What directory on the phone is that in?
I assume I just open the file to edit it when attached with USB?
Thanks

You have to have root... I have a modded build.prop file already ill post it then u push onto phone using adb.

But I need to root first?

EDIT: I may be wrong... Heres the Build.Prop
http://goo.gl/L7Hjp

hello, could you post tell me the directory on my phone that has the file?
It will be ok to "cp original internetlsd/original" "mv original original.bak"
then download the original to my computer from internal SD, edit in notepad then put the edited back to where the original was?

I googled around to find out where the build.prop was
here is my settings for wifi (which is identical to the one you posted)
#For enabling Wispr Feature
ro.mot.wifi.hotspot=1
# To enable Google Froyo Tethering (USB & WIFI hotspot)
ro.tether.denied=false
so shouldn't my tether work if denied = false?
I was also reading an article about build.prop apparently you can fake things with it like android version #, which makes me think this file just stores variable to display?

have you made sure to add "default, tether" without the quotation marks as the APN type for your Fido APN?
also, due do a bug, you must have Wi-Fi on before you enable tethering, otherwise it will just hang.
so Turn Wi-Fi On THEN turn on mobile hotspot.

Ok I feel so stupid now... adding ,tether after default made it work

[Q] Free 3g Hotspot

Ok so I know that you can "hack" your way into opening 3g hotspot for the DInc but I tried doing the same process on the X and it doesn't work. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the "3g hotspot" for free? No I do not care about wireless tether or anything else that requires root. Yes I do know that I can download an app for wired tether. I just want to be able to unlock 3g hotspot for the DX. Thank you!

Yes you can. Team Black Hat had a flashable .zip that allowed for it to work without paying the fee. You do have to be rooted however, as this flashable file needs to be flashed through bootstrap recovery, which requires root.

Thanks for that but I'm looking for a way that you do not have to be tethered. It may seem silly because yes both my phones are rooted but I would like to see if there is non-rooted way. Thanks again.
Yea if you want to share wifi unrooted... you'll have to use pdanet, or pay Verizon... those are your only options. Sorry.

I can't remember if I saw it on Xda, but in re-reading this thread, I think some people found that if they open the Hot-Spot app from Verizon, point a PC or phone to the "wifi hotspot" and then turn on airplane mode, then turn it off and go back and try to connect again that it will work.
Don't know if this has been patched in the 2.3.340 OTA or anything... may want to give it a try...
Rooting isn't hard. Download Z4root. Push a button, it does it all. Then download wireless tether from the market. Boom free wireless tethering. No hacking no cracking hard stuff. Root is easy these days

whats your with using the newest wireless tether? it supports infrastructure mode now so you can use it with literally everything (and free!)
if rooting is your concern, as chad said, z4root will automatically do it from your phone in about 10 minutes. all you have to do is press permanent root.
Ok.... This thread was pointless. Yes I know 3g hotspot is called "tethering" but all I'm trying to find out is if you can unlock the 3g hotspot that comes on the phone from verizon. I do not want to download an app to tether internet or even one that will allow me to use my mobile broadband via usb.
If you do not know an answer to my question "How to unlock or hack the 3g mobile hotspot so that I can use it for free?" then please do not post. Thank you very much.
I'm not trying to be rude or mean, I'm just trying to find an answer.
EDIT: Also if you would, please read the other post's before you try to tell me something I already know. YES my phone is rooted and YES I said that in previous posts. Thanks

Yes you can. you'll need reprogram your phones parameter using QPST.
Hotspot activation
This works on the Droid X Verizon network:
Go to applications and click on 3G Mobile Hotspot
First check to see the settings by hitting menu and selecting Advanced
Click on Wifi AP mode settings
Security should be set to WPA2
Click on show password: You'll need this when logging on to your hotspot
Click save and arrow back to 3G Mobile Hotspot
Check the box to start application. Once it connects:
Go to your phone dial pad and enter this string:
*#*#4636#*#*
A screen will open: Testing
Press Phone information and scroll down to the button that says:
Turn off radio
Press this and wait for it to turn off
Then press it again to turn it back on. Try to do these steps quickly as the Hotspot will turn off by itself and you'll have to redo these steps.
Your hotspot is now activated as a WIFI and you can log on with your password.
The bad part is:
Keep your phone plugged in whenever possible because the battery will drain quickly and everytime you turn off the 3G Hotspot, you'll have to redo these steps.

Wifi Tethering bug (4.4.2) no root

I own XT1060 and I don't live in US. I bought this for the sake of having a world phone and when I found out that wifi tetheing locked by Verizon and bootloader cannot be unlocked I felt doomed.
Tried many things and found a bug/exploit, I do this in order and able to reproduce the result
1. Use Easy Tether root edition, and tried tethering
2. Use Foxfi, and tried wifi tethering, it will complain error, ignore it
3. Use PDA.net and turn on wifi tethering, it will complain error, ignore it, then turn on bluetooth tethering, then turn it off
4. REBOOT, the phone will complain about unknown sim, just press OK
then go to settings, tethering and VPN settings and turn on the wifi tethering and voila it works and no root needed.

Where did you find Easy Tether root edition? I tried this with the Easy Tether from the play store and it did not work. I also live in the US and use Verizon though.

Do you need to do this everytime we want to tether? Or do we only need to do it once?
Did it work for you?
Has anyone confirmed that this actually works on the Verizon network?
My XT1060 doesn't do an Entitlement check with other SIM cards. It only checks for a subscription with a Verizon SIM for me. When I use my T-Mobile SIM, I can enable Wifi tethering through the system without a 3rd party app. But once I put my Verizon SIM back in, it checks my account for tethering.
i just use easy tether pro, connected by USB, and it works great for me

[Q] How to get wifi hotspot working with rooted T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4?

I've got a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 which I've recently rooted. My whole objective by doing this is to allow my Xbox to connect to the internet to download updates for games (I've got unlimited data with T-Mobile).
I followed a guide which involved installing xposed framework and then xposed xtether. Everything seems to work, except after using the hotspot for a bit I checked my T-Mobile account for data usage and it shows that I've been using the mobile hotspot (for which I have only 5GB allotted).
I've also tried Barnacle wifi tether but it gives me this error message:
"DHCP: Failed to parse 'fd00:976a::9' for brncl_dhcp_dns1"
and
"WIFI: Could not set ssid of wlan0: File table overflow"
and
"Stopped unexpectedly!"
Additionally, I've tried PdaNet USB tether and internet connection sharing, but the Xbox can't connect to the internet when it's done this way simply stating "Xbox can't connect to the internet".
Ultimately, I'd really like to get the hotspot thing working so that it doesn't draw from the allotted 5GB and instead uses my unlimited data. It'd be nice to use the stock hotspot app. Is this possible?
I know this is a long shot but maybe you can try this:
Open the file: build.prop (located at /system/build.prop)
Add at the end of the file this: wlan.wfd.hdcp=disable
Save changes
Reboot your device
Than try to connect to your hotspot again.

So, is the idea that when I use my mobile hotspot it shouldn't tally the data under that 5GB cap? In other words, if everything is good, it should say 0/5GB for the mobile hotspot?
I'm wondering if the data will continue to count up to 5GB but once it's maxed, it will still let me use the hotspot? Becsuse it seems like xtether lets people tether who don't even have a tethering plan in the first place, whereas I do.

recommend me a good tether app

i finally rooted my moto X pure. hotspot does not work on its own and i dont know how to edit the settings for it. So i tried looking for apps but some of them that i once had does not work.
Barnacle doesnt work
Wifi tether router gives a giant mcafee warning stating its a threat with Android/Bokbe.A!Gen or Malware for basic
FoxFi i have to pay 8 dollars for it when i didnt need to before
clockworkmod works but its usb tether
any other options?
Is your carrier restricting you from using your data plan to host a WiFi hotspot? Mine works just fine with no additional apps required. When I first turned it on, it made sure my data plan supported the feature then worked as expected.

yeah i tried that, doesnt work. thanks.
ill either unroot entirely or switch to another OS
use clockworkmod on a pc and make that pc a gateway for a wireless router (set pc ip address manually to something static) configure the router properly, then just connect all your other devices to that wireless router
UPDATE:
Wifi tether creator replied to my email saying mcafee has a false positive on it because its root, mcafee never tested it.
but what i did discover is this. when i played with the wifi tether app, they have the ability to allow tether completely wifi. in it contained was a LTE patch to allow tethering and it worked. if anyone is able to get the patch out, then jackpot we have tether ability

Did you happen to try FoxFi to see if it would work? Also I think there is a direct WiFi way to connect with FoxFi that's new. You might try that. Let us know. I'm holding off until I know I can use the hotspot. I'm not sure if you can upgrade to Oreo unlocked version and get around Verizon's hotspot limitation.
Pdanet+ has wifi direct and it does work! I can confirm wifi direct works on mac.
Yea I updated also not thinking ab it and now I'm screwed.
Use pdanet+ and use wifi direct, it works fine, just have to change settings that's all. Hopefully something will come up coz I don't see any other android update coming anytime soon to note 8.
Another +1 for pdanet+ and wifi direct. requires the windows app but works like a charm - happy to have it back.

What is the SIM popping trick because, I am trying to avoid using Odin to revert back to Nougat OS?
Start with wifi off. Eject your SIM card (you don’t have to pull the tray all the way out). This should take you to your lock screen. Unlock your phone. Go to settings > Connections > Mobile Hotspot & Tethering.
Here’s the tricky part... You have to pop the SIM back in and click the hotspot button quickly. You might get a message that pops up telling you “insert a SIM to turn on tethering” or something. If you get that, click “OK” to make it go away and click the hotspot button again.
Last thing, have a device ready to connect to your hotspot because it will time out and automatically turn the hotspot off.

If you use pdanet+ and wifi direct, do you need to check the box that says "Hide Tether Usage"? I assume that let's you tether without VZW knowing it's tethered data and thinking it's just normal cell data usage? Does it actually work? Would be useful when I'm nearing close to my 15 GB tethering limit.

I have been using Foxfi. 1st, I enable my native hotspot then turn it on in Foxfi and configure the password and name to the same as the phone and set the proxy. Next go to pdanet+ and tick hide tethering. Then I update the apn settings and add dun to the configuration. I have the SM-N950U cre1 baseband on metro pcs. Unlimited plan with a cycle from the 8th-7th. According to the my metro app I've used 3.4G of data and 165mb out of 10G hotspot since the 8th. The phone says I've use 5G of data but doesn't tell me the usage on mobile hotspot. I can say I usually have 2-3 devices and a laptop using the hotspot.
