Duel boot? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039617
Want to give this a try any body got any ideas where to start? Ie: like what would the boot img. Look like ? And how about 2.2 with 2.3 ?
I know I should start by looking inside to see what they did but when it comes to kernels not really sure what I'm looking at. so if anybody wants to give it a shot I'm in.

+1 im gonna download the files and see what those files do exactly.

looks like something that we could easily do, but doesnt look too safe/stable for power users to run. uncorupted was trying to do the same thing, but only having the roms run/install on the sd card. but its a lot of work. could use on our devices, but why?

The rasone why sounded good to me was I love sense. Especially 2.1 but it does not have full kernel suport yet. So with this in therory any way could run a fully functionl 2.2 froyo with all options working when you need them. But could still have the new sense 2.1 on 2.3 ginger as a daily desk top.
Downloading the new kitchen up-date and this at the same time so I can take a look. I figured it would be a power hog. Just wanted to know if our chip would handel it. Thats askin a lot out of it but I do have a new sd card jusk askin for it LOL.

Duel = fight
Dual = two
MT4G + Royal MIUI + Faux's BFS LV kernel

which rom?

hey im pretty new to the android world so bare with me please
i have a cdma hero and i have fresh 1.1...today a friend told me about a app called droidswap
so i installed it and made the pagefile on my sd card and it gave me a HUGE performance increase so it motivated me to get on xda to see what else i can do to make my phone better
i noticed that there is a new optimized kernel and full working roms with 2.1 i just dont know which one to get
in your opinion which one is the fastest with all the features? i dont want aps2sd and i want to be able to use the droidswap app...
sorry for the long post but i need your help you guys
If you don't care about android 2.1 and android 1.5 is enough for you, you can try the MODACO ROM with technologist kernel.. it's the fastest rom with HTC'S SENSE UI that i've tried..
If you want the android 2.1 you must choose: with or without SENSE UI because the htc platform uses more memory and resorces..
so.. with sense ui try the Villian ROM it's really fine , works awesome and running the sense just fine..
-if you don't care about the htc platform try the others.. I'm working with [email protected]'s esspreso and I love it! it's fast and it has everything I need..
-if you're looking for speed only , the clean ROMS will do the job. less addons more speed

I'd say you should try a few ROMs yourself. Telling you what ROM too choose is the same telling you what car to buy.
I'd say be very, very careful! Most of the ROMs mentioned here are *not* for the CDMA Hero.
Check out the CDMA Hero subforum for details of ROMs compatible with your device.

What is the best ROM for the G1? (Stable, battery, performance)

My friend has a G1 and wants me to give it a boost.
Which ROM would I be best putting on his phone? (preferably FroYo and with A2SD)
Need as much stability as possible so once it's done, it's done and I won't have to do it all again.
I'm a DHD user (Leedroid 2.2.2) so that's the kind of standard/stability that I intend to put on the phone.
This is also why I want to get it perfect first time as it's not my phone and I won't be testing it for any more than a couple of days.
Any help would be much appreciated
I have CM 6.0.0, it's ok but seem to have a few gliches. I read that there are a few out there, but cannot confirmed witch is the best one yet. Hopefully I will soon.
I've been running this Spanish ROM for the last year or so: SuperCSDIV4_ENV_MLIGNv3
I came across this youtube and tried it out:
WHOOPS, I'm new so I can't post links. It's youtube video 3whjnUg-c2w
It's only 1.6 but runs really smoothly and I've rarely had issues. Recently I've been having battery issues but I think that is just because my battery has gone south.
I have Emonther The Official. Its magic for battery! It have the best battery from the all I have ever tried. But it isnt so fast after days of use. Maybe its because LauncherPro, i dont know, but its took often a lot of time to load icons ...
POST SOME MOAR
I'm having great luck with Ginger Yoshi, although it is not quite fully developed.
I didn't like any of the Froyo ROMs I tried ( froyo4trout cyanogen, biffmod)
My wife loves superD (donut) because it is much faster than the newer roms, but won't be much of an update.

With your criteria, I'll go for ezterry's AOSP froyo or froyofortrout, both are very speedy n stable. The only diff is that terry's aosp is odexed so not much theming can be done, and froyofortrout is de odexed to allow theming and etc.
Do the ramhack by flashing terry's radio and you'll get xtra ram on top of the very stable and speedy plus battery friendly rom =D

I've read good things about Ginger Yoshi but something final would be much more ideal.
I've heard lots of good things about FroYo4Trout though and I am leaning towards it.

I think we have a winner, doubt he'll be too fussed about theming and I'm sure I'll find a way to deodex through adb if necessary.
-Reboot into recovery
-adb shell mount /system
-adb shell rm /system/app/Rosie.odex
-Reboot
Something along those lines maybe, only replace rosie with whatever else? I haven't picked it up yet but I'll have a look around when I can.
I'm assuming the ramhack only works with ezterry's?
Thanks for the input from everyone,
I might just get with ezTerry's ROM, if the ramhack works well with it.
Right now, I am having to recharge my G1 every 8 hrs or so, weather I use it a lot or not. It's a constant power drain.
As a followup, I used froyo4trout the longest of any ROM I've flashed. It was stable and good battery, I maybe just never could find the right settings to get the performance I liked. I also didn't have (or know about) the ramhack, otherwise that may have helped my overall user experience. I had a few issues related to running out of space even though I was using a2sd. I had to clear cache and dalvik often to keep things moving.

I didn't know about ramhack too, until I read the forum. I have A2SD on mine, but half of the programs I downloaded won't let me move it to the SD, especially the reasonably updated apps, it forced me to put the apps back to the internal memory (What's up with that? We are trying to optimize our internal spaces here), or it won't let me update the apps.
I'm gonna go ahead and say these dev's that are workin on these roms are like genius . Most devs would leave such an old phone bc of its old hardware (including cyanogen lol) but other devs make the best out of what they have and that's pretty sick . So its pretty safe to say you guys have the best of the business workin for your device

The ram hack is done by upgrading your radio and spl, check ezterry's thread or signature. It would work on any rom, there is an active development on froyo 2.2.2 by e344, it uses less ram, but im still waiting for final version of gb by yoshi, terry =D
Happy flashing! Use switchrom if u want to test diff roms, it helps a lot, google it up, or youtube it, its a simple script
I think I just found the best ROM for G1.
SuperAosp DM 2.8.2.
Got it on and using it right now and very fast on G1.
Although it's not final yet, I've been partial to COS-DS Gingerbread with built-in apps2sdext. I'm also using Firerat's CustomMTD & AIO for swap. I've also flashed the new radio & spl with ramhack kernels, which has been fairly quick & stable, for a noob like me. I was previously using CM 6.1, but the froyo apps2sd was a disappointment. Tried Sparksmod for a day or 2, but that was quite unstable. I happen to like Gingerbread with my Dream/G1...
I was using CM 6.0.0 DS RC1 until this past weekend with it throw my G1 into a loop at the splash screen. With no backup since I was unable to get in the recovery mode. I end up having to Wipe and reflash my G1.
johnson8cyl recommeded the SuperAosp ROM, and I tried it. It works well with my G1 and still running at full speed. Other than the launcher I keep giving me FC every so often (I need to find a better launcher). It doing well with 10 apps loaded on my internal storage.
I would say ezterry's 2.2 with the ramhack. Just my 2¢ stability and u wont have to mess with it much. I'm running superaosp but might have to play a little too much for u.

Yes it is. 18 apps installed (14 internal, 4 SD), 7 running services and still flying with 82 MB (internal) free space.

how is the speediness compared to froyofortrout and ezterry's aosp? all i found was a spanish forum, and google translate did not translate it well enough! hahahaha but i do realized that it is gingerbread! better than yoshi's / COS / Andisa?
gonna try it soon!

AOSP Froyo?

I'm fairly new to the Shift scene, coming from an Evo. Often I read on these threads that the Sense ROMs give better battery than CM7, which I have found to be true..I just think we are improperly labeling them as "Sense ROMs" rather than "Froyo ROMs". When I had my Evo, Froyo also got much better battery than Gingerbread..because of this I wonder, has any Dev ever spoken of creating a plain jane AOSP Froyo ROM/Kernel? I imagine a Froyo rom would be much smoother, better battery, and less bugs..just as it was on the Evo.
PS. Can anyone point me in the direction for a "how-to" on ROM creating? If no developers are interested in a Froyo build, I'm willing to take my n00b self to school, lol
Check out the HTC Android Kitchen over in the general section it takes a lot to set it up but has support for evo shift and there is a lot of info about it.

Sense is the UI overlay used on android so they were labled right, aosp is currently on 2.3.4 so no downgrades coming this way we are in the same boat as the evo was at launch it will take the devs time to get aosp gingerbread to its full potential but over all I'm really impressed with cm7 and very thankful for toastcfh!

I hear what you're saying..I really didn't mean that they were really mislabeled as much as I was trying to make the case that when it comes to battery life I believe that Froyo is simply better than Gingerbread..poor choice of words I suppose..I'm not trying to take anything away from the fantastic development that goes on here in regards to CM7. Having just come from an Evo in the last 2 weeks I've tried every rom available in that section and always found myself going back to CM6 due to the super speed and fantastic battery life.
I understand that 2.3.4 (and beyond) will be the future. I'd just like a solid, stable, AOSP to run till gingerbread is fully there. I don't reasonably expect any developer to take this on, that's why I asked for advice on where to go. I'm reading up on kitchens now because I'm guessing I'm in this alone, lol..I may succeed, I'll probably fail..but at least I tried lol
Edit : thinking about it I'm sure there are others here that believe Gingerbread to be stable..I just haven't had much luck with it. Whether it be battery life, gps issues, force closes, etc..
I hear you on the 6.1 for the evo it was my favorite and if I knew how to do it I would I just don't have any clue on development so I'm stuck with cm7 which isn't bad just not perfect

Working with the kitchen is pretty easy the coding is built in and it gives you a lot of options. Just work with it for a bit and try different things. Also I use different kernels from time to time to compare and mess with the clocking speeds setting up underclock when the screen is off to save battery. Mine right now overclocked to 1491 max min 364 normal and screen off 364 max to 364. Using evervolv and my battery last all day long med. To heavy use. I haven't had any problems with FC.

Ive tried the kitchen via ubuntu virtual box. And ive been trying to port these new sensation roms that keep surfacing over to our shift. Havent had any luck but then again im very new to it. Tried with froyo base and fail, tryed with cm7 gingerbread base when it was 2.3.3 just like the sensation ports are. Still nothing. Wish i knew how to go further but im stuck in recovery trying to flash with an "Expects 4 args got 3 args. Or expects 3 got 2." Was different between the two bases. Anyone wanna help!?

Would that be the same as a live cd? That was my plan to go with this weekend.

Should I Root?

I'm comming from the HTC HD2 so I know about the whole process and how everything works. I love to mess around with my phone and see what it can do but the Evo is so fast already and runs smooth. Im not afraid of breaking the phone because I have insurance and I always take special precautions. Is it worth me to root? I love sense and would love to have GB + Sense 3.0.
Also Ive read into 4G keys, does CWM backup the WiMax partition automatically?
This is my first time working with a CDMA phone?
thanks for any input, also if anyone is using a GB+ Sense 3.0 build is it worth it?
You sorta answered your own question
You should just get amon ra recovery. No problems but you have to flash everything manually. Meaning you can't use the rom manager app that downloads and flashes automatically for you.
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
Just go to the Development section, find a rom that fits your criteria (Virus comes to mind) and flash away!
Make sure you back up first, so if you are unhappy you can revert back. Only you can decide if it's "worth it"

Yes. Yes you should.
you should. right now.
GB and Sense 3.0? I'd point you in the direction of this ROM.
You all have convinced me I'm rooted now just exploring builds!!!
I knew i couldnt stay away from the Development section long
i'd try cm7, mikfroyo, myn's warm twopointtwo, and a sense 3.0 build. if you decide you like aosp, try more aosp roms. if you decide you like sense, try koni's and other sense roms. have fun, and welcome to the forums (evo side at least)
Root is a must just cause u can take all the rubbish of to start with

Absolutely
Of course you should root and flash. Just realize that once you get started flashing ROMs, it can become real addictive.

My battery life sucks with 4g/gps/bluetooth turned off i get about 4-6 hours of battery life, and sometimes text messages/voicemails are slow.
Thanks for all help guys

you already rooted, but really it depends on your needs. I am rooted but running stock and only needed root for wifitether otherwise.

dualboot idea?

I was just thinking as an idea or suggestion for the atrix it'dbe cool if there was a dual boot for it haha. i don't really know alot about this phone so i'm what my name is when it comes to developing although i wanna learn how to develope mods and stuff. but is there a way to somehow put 2 roms together and have the phone think one is webtop and can view it on the phone? like to have cm7 as primary then put miui in the webtop partition since they use the same kernel (I think?) lol or is this something that can never happen? just wanted to stir up some ideas. also probs to the people who make my phone 10X better.
