Poor GPS signal since last OTA update? - Desire HD General

anyone else experiencing this? before the update my phone and GPS were great since the update the GPS (using navigation) hardly ever locks and then when it does it then loses lock and doesn't regain it again
help???

What is your softare version number, 1.72 or 1.84? I had the same issue with 1.72, and that along with other bugs got me to go for a custom rom.
After flashing Android revolution 4.0 along with a new radio I get a fix at my GPS almost immediately.
I think you will find some apps on marked named GPS fix, you could try and see if it would be of any help, don't think it's a offical fix for it yet.

GPS stopped working after CID unlock

hi
I have a SPV M700 on orange(uk). My gps worked fine without any problems, however today after unlocking the CID so that i could try some roms the gps no longer works. in Tomtom i get messages gps device not found.
I've tried searching in the forums here but cannot find an answer.
Has anyone else had similar problem or know of a solution ?
Thanks
Have you flashed a different radio rom?
What version of the radio do you have now?
Some older radio roms don't support he GPS receiver.
Hi,
I had the same problem. I was given the link below and updated my ROM, this solved the GPS but TomTom kept sticking. I did a bit of digging on this site and found another ROM, which is essentially the original Orange ROM. I have installed this ROM now and am having no problems.
javascriptl('http://rapidshare.com/files/16675831/RUU_Trinity_DOPODASIA_WWE_1.23.707.6_6275_1.35.00.11_108_Ship.exe');
Recommended ROM. (Orange)

I hope this helps.

Further to my reply....
Your phone memory will be wiped when you install the new ROM. So back up any data/files/settings that you want to keep. Your Memory card won't be affected so save everything to that.

Thanks for the quick replies but im a bit confused here .....the rapidshare link is that for the ROM that makes TomTom stick ?
And from the Recommended ROM's, which one is actually the original Oranger 1's ?
Thanks
I hope this helps.
Managed to get it working.
Used the Mozzer Rom for the link given and then swiftly upgraded to the Big Black WM6 rom.
All working fine as far as i can see.
Need to get out the office to test gps properly, but at least it's picking up the gps device.
Thanks again for the help
I had the same problem, I tried several ROMs without any fix, GPS looks desabled.
Then i had one idea, flash the original ROM from HTC, the one that enables the GPS and Voilá it works, then i loaded the ROM i like and keep working.
Hope it helps,
Information please
You downloaded the original HTC ROM with GPS working, but can you tell us the exact site with this ROM... I look but I did`n get it...it would be very helpfully for us.... Thanks a lot.

unlock GPS for Verzion xv6800 with stock Rom or with the MR1 rom.

First of all I would like thank Skywing for writing this GPS Application
Gateway for the xv6800 phone with stock rom or upgraded MR1 rom..
This thread is to show my thanks and to help new ppl like myself
find this app easer.. It took me about haft a day searching two forums
just to find what I was looking for .. so I hope this will help other
new ppl find what they are looking for much easer ..
Again this application was written by “Skywing” and someone wrote
the easy install CAB for his app .. also like thank “gc14“ for writing
the tutorial ..
This Application aGPS aka GPS Server aka (Valhalla Legends GPSServer.cab)
Will allow your 100% stock rom or MR1 rom on your xv6800 Phone
to access GPS signal via 3rd party application e.g. MS Live search, Google maps etc..
without the need to unlock the phone or do anything to the phone other than
simply loading the GPSServer.cab file ..
For step-by-step install info. go to: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=VerizonAGPSFix
To download the CAB go to: http://rapidshare.com/files/165096506/Valhalla_Legends_GPSServer.cab
Show your thanks to Skywing, go to his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424387
I have personal testing this code on my xv6800 with stock ROM, then I
upgraded to the MR1 ROM from HTC for the xv6800 with WM 6.1 and
install the GPSServer.cab and it works perfect for both ROMs without
doing any unlocking or running anything else other then just the GPSServer.cab
BTW for anyone with the stock ROM running WM 6.0 and would like to
upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 .. you can download the MR1 ROM direly
from HTC
Again this is the, Verizon XV6800 ROM MR1
Release Date: 2008-08-23
go to: http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=82&cat=2&dl_id=99
If this link does not work you may need to set your “country” first, (top right of the page “select country” set to “United States”
wow .. update: also found out that gc14 made the CAB file as well..
Thanks again gc14
gc14 post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2625473&postcount=113
Thanks! It works very good with Google Maps
Is your WIFI works with WM6.1? After I installed MR1, my WIFI is not working anymore. I hope you might be able to help me.
TIA
to all that created this thank you, works flawless on the stock mr2 rom
can't get it to work..
Hi all! I followed this method a while back and had Google maps working great for quite some time! This past weekend I tried to use it with GPS and it couldn't find any satellites. I figured it was maybe too much cloud cover or other interference related to my location. Anyhow, yesterday I updated my XV6800 to MR2, installed the latest Google maps (3.0.0.12) and still cannot get it to find any satellites. after playing with the COM ports and location setting (currently COM4 and Loc ON) without success I installed GPS Toggle, which also cannot find any satellites.
Anyone have any suggestions to get this working again? Does this even work with MR2? I'd be happy to go back to MR1, though MR2 seems to be a little smoother and faster.
Thanks!

thanks drewcam888. I'll check it out this afternoon and let you know how I make out.
BTW, I was looking around my device and I found a different version of gpsapi.dll (hidden) in the Windows directory. I'm thinking this may be the problem. It won't let me modify it though, as it's a system file. I can view it using SKTools, but not modify it.
Can you recommend a file manager program that'll let me move / copy / replace system files?
Thanks!
You can't modify a rom file or one that is created by the rom itself. Or at least I don't know how
Hello,
I'm pretty new here and new to the XV6800. I have a rom version that I downloaded from htc site that under device info reads 3.57.605.1 I don't know what MR1 or MR2 is or is mine an MR3?? Also I have a Radio version of 3.37.75?? My question is can I install this to get GPS or AGPS working on my device? Do I have to install a different radio to get it working?
Thanks,
Chris

Read the thread for a while that drewcam8888 lists above "adapter program to ......" and then make sure you change the registry settings as it describes for Valhalla in the posts from the past couple of days. I believe I posted #627 which has the places to edit for Valhalla. Listen to what others say to make sure you have everything right.
mine failed around the same time but using a different set of cab files which had worked flawlessly on both previous installs of MR1 . Is this perhaps something from verizon?....Anyway having not installed from a wrar file before how do you install the valhalla cab when the redirects disconnect from the server?
I have a xv6800 and i got it last week, the person that i got it from updated the rom. a couple days ago i cleared the storage, which i guess is a hard reset, but i wanted to know if that resets my Rom
thanks
Tyve

i have no idea wut im doing,
thanks
Yes you do
dang, that sux. thanks a bunch
my ROM version is 3.57.605.2 does anyone know if that is hacked or not?

[Question] How to test GPS hardware...

Hi all,
suddenly my GPS is not working anymore. Can enable GPS and it says it is ok. But when i want use Google Maps, or navigation program the icon in taskbar is not there anymore.
Did try GPS Status, nothing....
Did a fresh rom install and wipe everything i can wipe.. nothing not working.
now i want to know is there a tool or adb option to test the hardware if this is still working.... (maybe GPS is broken)
Thanks
Did a RADIO rom flash with the one i already had on my HTC... and problem solved....
Still wondering how it can happen that maybe the radio rom was getting crazy...
had the same problem two days ago, same solution... same no idea for the cause
this kind of strange things was my idea only for windows... suddenly it is not working anymore.. But.. Solve this problem was mutch easier haha
This seems to happen whenever you flash a 2.1 ROM. Even going back to 1.5 doesn't fix the problem and a new radio flash is required.

Dave

Every now and then manufacturers like HTC will release an update to radio which controls your wifi, data, blutooth. If your current radio is having problems, you will need to update it. Most of the time new radio is included with the update but you can Google individual files as well, hope this explains

[ROM]RUU_Schubert_O2_UK_3.04.206.01_Radio_5.66.09.21a_2 2.48.50.21_Signed

Here new RUU for o2 UK

Enjoy!
could any1 post an alternative link to this mine keeps saying download interupted when i try this thanks
Any chance of some more information of what the rom contains or what improvements it may make.
First two things noticed, the bootloader and radio version are later than I thought was available as the NoDo Update is cooked into it so it's NoDo'd out of the box so to speak.

Not tired it yet, but it should not install if its not a valid O2 rom
Installed it - seems ok no major speed differences of battery life - but seems to be the latest around - if anything the signal strength is possibly better. Just really waiting for Mango and hoping that the move to 7.5 will be possibly on original 7 devices - anyone know this?
I install this with rum? help me
I dont think drinking is going to help you install this. lol
Whats the battery like with this radio? any improvments over the stock version? (besides nodo)

The radio has helped with my signal. Hope a new one comes out soon.
Um....Really!
Would you beleive that i just flashed this to a TMOUS HD7?!
Not only did it flash but it did indeed update radio and it works!
Makes me wonder, have i just unlocked the 900 band to use this in Australia??
Either way my pd29110 is now a T9292 haha
Next step would be to load a custom rom with no branding and i would have just reverted a TMO to a stock HTC. me is happy

[Q] Should I Update Radio On T-Mobile G2?

Rooted T-Mobile G2 with S-off.
Preparing to upgrade my ROM from Stock OTA 2.15.531.3 to stock OTA 2.16.531.5 from the T-Mobile G2 Stock OTA Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314541
Should I also be updating my Radio from the HTC Vision Radio's Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970809?
- If yes, what sequence should I follow? Update Radio and then ROM or vice-versa? How-to links, Dummy procedure manuals, etc. would be welcome.
Thanks.
Just popping in, someone will help you out more in depth, but it does not matter which order you do it in BUT....you may want to try the ROM on your old radio to start.
Flashing radios can be dangerous, and their performances vary depending on your location. If after flashing your new rom you have poor signal or battery life, then flash a radio using the instructions in the radio thread. But if everything is peachy keen, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Sent from my T-mobile G2 using Tapatalk
I have recently flashed this same rom you want to, but came from mexdroid. The way I see it with flashing radios is if it's from T-Mo (and if you're on t-mo) then the update would include the radio anyway if the new radio came with the new update.
I flashed the radio first, but in my experience it doesn't matter. The newest official T-Mo radio is "Vision_Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19" and download the zip file. To install, rename it to PC10IMG.zip and put on root of SD card. Then hold the down volume button while turning on the phone and follow the prompt from there. This is the safest way to update the radio.
So far, in this build with this radio the time the radio is in use is far less than usual and battery life rocks.
I 'm running the pre-rooted OTA 2.15.531.3 ROM but left my radio at the 26.03.02.26_M as the phone came (with the original Froyo ROM). It works, but ever since the upgrade, my conversation partners experience the annoying echo on their end (they hear their own voice delayed).
Similar issues were reported by others but so far, nothing I tried fixed the issue.
I now think this is due to the older radio not matching some settings in the new ROM. I never had this with the Froyo ROM.
Also, when I'm using WiFi calling, the echo is not there which further points to the radio as the culprit.
The interesting thing is that whenever I'm in a noisy environment (like when in a restaurant, mall etc.), the problem is not present but in quiet environments it's always there.
So I'm also thinking about flashing the radio and hope that the problem gets fixed... I'm just nervous to do it and eventually mess up the phone. After all, other than this, everything works perfectly...
I'm not even sure which radio should I pick from that other post. Should I just go with the latest T_MOBILE OTA 2.16.531.5 radio even though my ROM version is lower? I don't necessarily want to upgrade the ROM and deal with customizing the phone again (yes, I know Titanium Backup helps, but there is still work left after that).
If upgrading from stock rooted to the new ota rooted rom its ok and best to undate the radio to since they Booth were part of the update and work well together and so u can take more advantage of the better power management .. and yes battery did improve with new ota and radio

That is exactly the way I look at it as well. I've only updated my radio once, and it was to the latest T-Mo radio. I took it one step further, and also RIL matched as detailed in another thread here on the XDA forums.
Thanks all for your help and advise. I finally found some time to do the updates last night. ROM is now at 2.16.531.5 and radio at Vision_Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19. All is working well and hopefully the annoying echo will also have disappeared.
I honestly think that flashing a new radio is not necessary unless you really have nothing else to do. maybe change do dz hboot u will require a dif radio (that diff story) but yeh. no really obvious point for u to flash. unless ur signal is really, really, bad?

Sorry for the delay in replying back. I was busy with work and updating my son's G2.
I also matched the lib-ril files, and wiped the cache, dalvick cache and the efs partitions. The echo problem seems to have been fixed for now.
I compared the Android version, Baseband version, Kernel version and Build number on both my son's and my G2's against my wife's G2 (which is stock, unrooted and receives direct OTA updates from T-Mobile). All the version numbers match up perfectly.
Thanks to all for their help.

Actually after finally rooting and getting CM7 running, I was running into a problem when I would go in or out of an area that had no signal. I would essentially not be able to connect back to the network.
After upgrading to 12.62.60.27U_26.13.04.19_M (tmobile) my problem went away. Of course, ymmv, but it was a good upgrade (for me)

What he said!!! Also, it made more sense to me to have the radio at the same version as the one T-Mobile pushed OTA to all the stock G2s (having my wife's phone as a reference helped)
