Please turn to the post on page 3 labeled as "VIP - Very Important Post". I have requested a replacement device for the phone below and have achieved positive results. Turn to the post on page 3 for full details.
I am putting a poll together to gather information on helping everyone, including myself, to achieve the best results with their Dell Venue Pro. Since we have spent our hard earned income on this phone, it would be great for all of us to have a great experience with it in hopes that Dell can promptly provide us with the proper firmware update to fix current issues. So please provide any information you have available that we can use to help your situation and ours.
(As of 5/03/2011)
Dell Venue Pro - 8GB Stock
Updates: February > Nodo
Firmware rev # 2250.1500.7004.105
Hardware rev # 112.576.2.0
Manufacture Date: 1/23/2011
Current Issues & Fixes:
1) Gmail manual sync issue - Solved - emails synced properly based on 30 & 1 hour intervals but not when done manually. Solved by deleting account and adding it again as a new account.
2) Lockup/freeze while charging - Not Solved
3) Lockup/freeze using Internet Explorer, Marketplace, Apps, Maps & Newsroom while using Wi-Fi - Not Solved - Should I request a replacement or wait for the Dell firmware update?
4) Slider Reboot - Not Solved - This is now a major concern, it seems as if the phone completely crashes upon opening or closing the phone via the slider.
4) Death grip - Not Solved - Yes, my phone does suffer the issue where holding it in the most comfortable way affects the quality of the signal
5) Low music volume - Not Solved
Comments:
I'd say that my phone works at 70% considering that my phone crashes often in the day especially when using Wi-Fi. There are moments that I can use Wi-Fi normally yet there are mostly moments that it crashes. I love what the OS and phone have to offer together, but the continuous crashing makes it unbearable after a while.
The answer for me was to replace the MicroSD with a Class2 card. For whatever reason the DVP doesn't seem to handle faster cards well; the higher the class of card, the more frequent the issues.
Since replacing my card I have had minimal issues; the phone works great on a daily basis for me.
Took me ages to get a Class 2 card (kept receiving a class 4 card in the post) but will hopefully get the card in the post this weekend..
I only have crashes when I use WIFI, and it tends to happen with big files (such as computer games or HD youtube videos), so long as I dont use wifi the phone works 100% of the time...
With wifi on, the phone will lock up 100% of the time.....haha

It's great to hear that your DVP is working great. I would love to take the chance of replacing the MicroSD card, but I'm not sure I want to void the warranty as of yet. So I'm trying to find solutions while maintaining the 1 year warranty. I've also heard of some DVP users having conflicts with their replaced MicroSD cards after they updated to NoDo. So that's another reason why I haven't made the switch as well.

Haha! I know exactly how you feel. The phone works great without Wi-Fi but with it on, I feel like throwing the phone out the window because of the constant lockups. Let us know how things work out when you use the Class 2 card while Wi-Fi is on =D

That is a chance, yes. But at this point, I'd rather have a working phone than wait for a fix that may or may not be coming.

Have a link to that? I have not seen anything about that yet.
EDIT: By the way, the thread title is quite misleading. Wouldn't something like "Poll: How stable is your DVP" be a better one?
I'd be surprised if anyone has a truly 100% working device, DVP or otherwise.
Just in case not everyone has seen it, there was a different poll on DVP stability a few months back:

That is my concern, that I am not fully convinced that someone is running a 100% working Dell Venue Pro. That is why it would be great for people to post information on how they were specifically able to achieve these results. So far only raremage has mentioned that replacing the MicroSD card works better with minimal issues. So it seems that there are individuals who voted on 100% and have yet to specify on how they have been able to have a Dell Venue Pro running flawlessly.
8GB with NoDo
OS 7.0.7390.0
Firmware 2250.1500.7004.105
Hardware: 112.576.2.0
Radio software: 2.2.50.15
Radio hardware: 8250
Bootloader: 7.27.1.0
Chip SOC: 0.36.2.0
Mostly stable, but seems more crash happy since NoDo. Have never disabled Wifi. Crashes frequently trying to run IMDB, occasionally with 4th & Mayor and Weather Channel. Games don't often crash it, but they sure make it heat up quick. Some freezes happen just when doing normal things. At least one crash per day.
Another ordered Class 2 card and another class 4 card delivered...
Tried amazon, eBay, memoryzoo and mymemory.com and they all have class 2 cards, class 2 pictures but I have received 4 class 4 cards in the post...
NOt quite sure where else I can go to buy one from...so unfortunately no update on how it works with a 32gb card...

I purchased from Amazon on Apr 12 and got a class 2. the seller was BlueProton.
Thanks for the tip....The main page 1 star reviews look a bit dodgy to me, but will look into Blue Proton and see if he is certified.
Its the same link that folks here and also ZDNet had luck with.
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
It works
I have had a UK Venue Pro for the last two weeks and to date had no real problems. Logging onto WiFi does however only seem successful where 802.11n is available. We have 3 different Belkin Routers which are all n certified, it will not conect to a Belkin PreN one though. All are WPA. Hope that's of some hope to others.

read your post about WiFi and decided to play around here at home with router settings. I live in a fringe area, so WiFi for internet is a must. I work in town and 3g is good so there are never any connection worries. I only see the small amount of lag I do see, at home. My wifi band was set to b. I changed it to mixed. The speed change was immediate. Have seen no lag issues all day. I doubt this is the cause of others WiFi issues. However, it resolved the slight problem I had at home.
Well I have had the chance to really put my phone to the test during the holiday weekend and have come up to this conclusion. It is possible to have the Dell Venue Pro running at 99.9% stability. I have been running the DVP for the past 4 days without a single freeze or lockup. I have surfed the web, browsed the marketplace, downloaded software, used maps, sent emails, and everything else you could possibly do with the phone.
current Dell Venue Pro configuration
MicroSD: Stock 8GB
Wi-Fi: off
Bluetooth: off
Cellular Data Connection: on
Cellular 3G connection: off
Network Selection: T-Mobile
I must keep Wi-Fi off at all times. I have yet to purchase a bluetooth headset so I am unsure if bluetooth causes any instabilities with the phone. Also, since the 3G signal around my area tends to be inconsistent, I mainly keep the phone on EDGE network. Besides the extremely slow internet browsing, it seems that this is the only way for me to achieve the best performance & stability without voiding the warranty. So this is one temporary option that I would recommend to everyone who would like to have a phone that actually works. It seems that a major issue is caused by using Wi-Fi. So until Dell's upcoming update finally resolves this issue for all of us, we may have to use the DVP as a phone rather than a smartphone.

Lately, feeling much less pleased with the stability. Newly downloaded apps seem the most troublesome. Downloaded ESPN, Poynt, Weatherbug, TED and Flixter yesterday. Except for ESPN, each one caused a freeze either in the app or just after trying to go back to the start screen. ESPN didn't freeze, but wouldn't connect the first few times, and crashed out to the app list once. Today, I was able to run the first three without issue, and was able to connect to ESPN. It seems like once I get through the initial app settling period, things work a little better.
IMDB still behaving badly. It doesn't cause freezes, but Search just doesn't work. I don't think I can blame the phone... just a poor app!
Strongly considering the Sandisk Class 4 32GB Micro SDHC card upgrade now...
8GB Model
Purchased directly from Dell on February 20th.
Have 5.56 GB available
The reason I posted 100% is because every crash I've experienced has been by a poorly designed app. I just simply remove the app. Everything else works great, WiFi, Exchange Server synchs, etc. with no lock ups/crashes.
OS Version 7.0.7390.0

Bootloader: 7.27.1.0
Chip SOC: 0.36.2.0
Swapped sd card for a Sandisk Class2 model...now working 100% with no wifi crashing, no app crashing and currently updated to the post nodo update 7.0.7392.0
D'loaded big games (PES 2011, Earthworm Jim) etc, with no crashes....had 10 different apps and games d'loading at the same time with no crashing whatsoever...
Touch wood it stays this way, cos honestly it is a beauty this phone now...
I just ordered a Sandisk 32GB Class 2... through BlueProton! Hoping I get the card I want
I will try to come back here and let you know how it goes.
Question - how many of you got the Venue Pro with a completely black sticker over the SDHC card rather than the "warranty void" sticker?

I am just about to purchase a new PDA. I am deciding between the Wizard (o2 xda mini s) and Universal (o2 xda exec).
The universal seems to have everything I want, but I am scared by the posts here.
So I have one basic question for you guys:
Do you think:
1. There are basic hardware problems which can't be resolved until there is a new version
2. It is just a buggy software/firmware issue, and this will be fixed by the current and future firmware upgrades ?
If it is 2, I will not mind buying it ?
thx
Only a personal viewpoint, but my view is that most of the problems are being caused by software that claims to support WM5.0 - but the reality is that although they do support it, not all software is as robust as it should be. I have installed and uninstalled a whole range of applications (purchased and trial versions) - and found that many cause lock-ups etc. After trial and error I have settled on a PIM (Pocket Informant) and a closer/launcher (GSPocketMagic) that work reliably, do not cause my Universal to lock up and do not seem to have any effect on system speed. Others I have tried may cause lock-ups or at least really slow the system performance down significantly. Not sure if others have found the same - just what I have found by trial and error. Hope it helps
that is a very interesting point. I was very influenced by this article:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35177
Also it seems if you read aximsite re: dell x51v, that Wm5 is not as compatable with wm2003se software as people think.
What also seems to be adding to the issues is that the service providers (o2, orange, etc.) are NOT aware of this and are installing applications as standard (e.g. battery meter) which actually cause lags in answering phone calls as they are not correctly for Wm5.
I guess the question is now, does the jasajr work fine when all bad the sowftare is uninstalled, and is it possible to uninstall monitoring software that service providers have installed ?
I just bought mine on Monday... great piece of kit!
If you are just going to use the software that came with it you shouldn't have any problems at all (i haven't anyway) all is working well.
I think as soon as WM2005 becomes more established and more developers cater for it the glitches will go, like NH said, it's more 3rd party software that's causing the problems
hey budo, which service provider did you buy from ?
how is surfing the internet using 3g (the real reason I want to buy it, as I will keep my normal mobile for phone calls)
rgds
My position is clear. WM5 itself has bugs and does things you don't expect. Here are just four examples of WM5 probelms which are nothing to do with third-party apps:
- If the Camera app is left on it heats-up the devices as it drains the battery
- On downloading email over GPRS/3G the Messaging app can freeze
- Media stored on the SD card when used by apps when the "suspend" option is used can cause the app to fail when you re-start your device
- WM5 can report it has insufficient memory even when it has 20MB of RAM free
- Memory leakage means you need to reset the device daily
- If you do reset it is possible to loose settings and data if this data has not been written back to the persistent storage from the real RAM
O2, and they give you 3 options for "install type" so if you want all the bells and whistles you can switch it on, or if you want just the basic software you can switch that on lol...
I have to sort my internet out for 3G, needs to be config for some reason.... but from what i have seen from GPRS it's top dog esp with sites that cater for mobile internet....
this is not good jah, i am put off again. although this could be fixed with a firmware update if htc provide that kind of thing. Anyone know their record on this for other devices ?
hey budo. If 3g is turned on, it should use it automatically for connection, even if it says gprs. that is normally how all my 3g phones have worked when 'bluetoothed' with a pda.
Colonel
I assume you have seen this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33871
I am not trying to put you off but just want to make sure you have a balanced perspective. I have an Exec and all I can say is that it is "high maintenance" like all M$ based systems
thanks, i'll read.
I'm not sure I totaly agree with you about M$ stuff. I had a dell x50v and currently have an orange m500, and they are perfectly reliable and low mainentance. It does seem however that the hardware people have rushed out wm5 systems without really doing their research and I am sure M$ is responsible for a load of bugs. Roll on WM5se ......

Sux. This pixel doubling issue means that you don;t get anywhwere near the estate you expected. U can switch to Oz VGA but that costs a 5 min reset either way - easier to get to a PC! The other issue is that the IE browser is SO bad that 3G surfing feels like GPRS - in fact I used to fire up my laptop just to check that I had a good 3G signal in the area and was indeed surfing on UMTS!! Issue is that browser renders slowly, and cache's so badly that it actually reloads the whole friggin page when u go 'back'. I could have my laptop working on a 3G card right alongside my JJ on 3G, type in xda-developers and press 'go', and my laptop would give me the screen in seconds, whilst my JJ would take a full minute!! We're taking over 10x slower. Also, many sites do not render in PIE - blank drop boxes etc. In SA that's movie booking gone, not a SINGLE TV guide site works, and altho my private bank works, my company bank does not. However, terminal services in VGA is awesome...
craigiecraigie4
I don't really have problem with 3G and PIE. I use T-mobile and o2 in the UK and the rendering etc is reasonable given that I did not expect laptop like performance on my Exec. The Exec in corp mode with GSPMagic+ is very quick.
Hello! I plan to buy HTC HD2 - think it is the best phone right now.
But have couple of questions:
1. Does it have old bugs - sms bug, calls bug. Heard that it always uses gprs instead of wifi?
2. What kind of micro sd card does it have? What class is it?
Thank you

1. I have the USA HD2, and the bugs are nearly non-existent on my phone.
Yes, it's laggy at times, but I haven't ran into any trouble. When my wifi is turned on, my phone automatically uses Wi-Fi instead of t-mobile data service.
2. It comes with 16gb class 2 MicroSD card and can be expanded to 32GB.
Thank you!
the sms bug that was present on the hd2 is not around for the majority of people but i have read people saying their texts go to the wrong people.
the only real problem is that if you get more than 200 texts in your phone (in and out) it will freeze up sense entirely and you have to soft reset.
for now all we can do is keep our inbox managed and it works great
Can someone tell me how to get the Wi fi working in windows 7 on hd2 ??
assuming you have actually tried turning it on there couple of a couple of possible reasons its not working.
firstly WP7 wont connect to hidden networks
secondly, wifi not working is a very common sign of a incompatible SD card,
Thanks for the reply
a "compatible SD card" well what are most people using?
I am using a SanDisk 4G is that good or bad?
I also have a 16G but that’s for android
I'm using my stock tmous 16gb sandisk. From what I've read, & including the three HD2's I've installed WP7 on, it's very compatible.
yes i have the same problem, i know my sd card works with it because, i went through like 4 roms, and it worked perfect. I have installed HD2O_1.04_DFT_LEO70_RELEASE, and everything is perfect BUT wifi
ok let me be clear on this one, dispite what some folk on here believe there is no compatible list, any thread suggesting otherwise is just a waste of bytes.
however, in saying that, statistically, you have a better chance with a class 2 or 4 8gb or 16gb, thats not to say others wont work because they might, in short its luck!
sandisk, an all the other brands all suffer the same issue, im not going in to details on that issue but bassically even the same make and model of a card may or may not work, this is down to the manufacturing process and what components are used.
The only way you can take anyones "advice" on a specific card working is if they have tried it and physically gave it to you.
yes its a common error, you SD card might work but if its not completely compatible it may have issues, wifi, lagging, random reboots etc.

then, it's not your sd card that is the problem! simple logic here mynamemonte.
can you new folks please be more specific when asking questions? a generic question like "how do i get wi-fi to work in wp7 on a hd2" leaves open all sorts of interpretations.
a better question would have been..."i've tried such and such to get wi-fi working and not having any luck". also, if you include the rom and specific technical information about your set up increases the likelihood of a direct answer.

That is what I've gathered from all the readings on the SD card issue in the various forums. I'm using Kingston 16GB SD, class 6 that I bought to speed things up a bit when I was still using WM6.5. Works fine for me, but I'm on Frantic's 7008 ROM.
I think SD issues are a combination of both the card itself and the tweaks of the various ROM cooks put into their individual versions other than the basic DFT port.

Thanks for the info. I was getting tired of having to switch my broadcast option at home to use wi-fi. I've installed it and we'll see if it works at home tonight considering I may need the NoDo update which isn't out for the HD2 yet.
Will report later.
Btw...HTC sent out an update for the Connection Setup tool on Marketplace this morning. Just in case this update fixes any issues I may run into with HTC Wi-Fi I would recommend people install the update.

Question is though, is the Sandisk 16GB Micro SD Class 2 card a working card for this phone ? There are so many postings but hard to pin point if this is a good working card with no reboots or data loss.
Appreciate quick responses as I want to pick this up before they sell out.
Thanks !
generally after the samsung focus nodo update the phone is not showing the symtoms of earlier sd card problems. Sandisk should be fine, class 2 or 4 seems to be the best class right now for this phone; even though microsoft orignally said class 4 or higher. You should check out the sd card thread sticky
Card has been purchased... I've done 3 finger salute and connected to laptop. Seems there was an update from Microsoft, so let that run and update.
Now syncing the card to all my wonderful music. I've loaded 4GB so far. Another 12GB to go. Will report sometime tomorrow if any reboots or data loss occurs.
Oh my... I guess I had more music and pictures than I thought ! Anyway the total storage is 22GB and available memory is sitting at 1016MB. Essentially I have maxed out the storage. So far no lag, no blips, no reboots, and no data loss. It's only been about 90 minutes though ! Will leave it over night and then use it more. Play music, read emails, make phone calls and then see what happens.
Any othe suggestions for testing this out?
Seems to be working perfectly. If anyone has suggestions to testing the load and trying to get the card to foul up please make suggestions. Future Shop has a good return policy but it needs to be returned with in 14 days of purchase. So far though the card works !
Can you check the speed (using WP Bench)? If it's good, I think I'll buy one of these.
So, bought the card - only the one that showed up was a class 4 16gb San Disk (as opposed to class 2 as listed in the order). So far has been performing fine, although I have had the occasional slowdown / lock-up (which may be a function of the phone trying to find music on the card). WP Bench score for storage access has ranged between 2.8 and 5.6...

Class 4 for me too!
Title pretty much covers it.....I have had it with the WiFi issues on the OP8 Pro and was going to go back to the OP7 Pro.
....but people are saying that they are all fixed in Android 11 beta on the OnePlus forums...is this true? And what about Dual SIM which I also need on occasion?
If I move to A11 OB2, can I root and get GPay working?
Is it stable enough to be a daily driver?
Many thanks in advance...

You can root OB2 device, and the OB2 seems usable and also stable enough for daily usage.
I recently acquired a oneplus 8 pro purchased directly from oneplus.com. I have model IN2025. It is the 12gig ram 256 gig storage version. I also have a samsung active watch 2 which I again have had no problems with my oneplus 7 pro. When I initially acquired it, I tried using it with the android 10 non beta firmware. I had multitude of issues up to and including:
1. high difficulty (to not at all) connecting to either my 2.4ghz wifi network OR my 5ghz network. It would state connecting however stall at obtaining IP address. No other devices have issues connecting to either networks including my older oneplus 7 pro.
2. if it would finally connect, while it may state that the 5ghz is connected at 300mbps or the 2.4ghz connected at 144mbps, with random speed tests I would not experience anywheres near those speeds (my ISP dishes out 200mbps). at most I would get 30mbps on my downstream....again if it even worked.
3. both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks would often disconnect and never reconnect if and when they did successfully reconnect
I installed the open beta 1 and then did OTA to open beta 2. This has helped quite a bit HOWEVER I've experienced the following issues:
1. while I have no longer received the locking up on obtaining ip address, even if it states I'm connected to my wifi (either the 2.4 or 5ghz) the network is still extremely slow
2. sometimes the device while connected to either wifi network will appear to not send any information aka stall which potentially makes using google messages over wifi unreliable as well aka text msgs show up late etc
In both pre and after beta installation 5g has been significantly slower than 4g cellular data(though I can't say much to that as more than likely the 4g in my area has towers closer near by). Also while on 4g or 5g cellular connections I have though not as frequently experienced data stalls.
Things that have helped resolve some of my issues:
1. this I believe is the largest potential bandage: make sure use device mac address NOT RANDOM is selected. After having done that my connecting to the internet appears to be better (even if it still stalls out)
2. while I've not tried it alot as I use bluetooth alot (with the watch I have and my car and wireless headsets)I've read that turning off bluetooth can help both wifi and cellular data issues
I am currently in the process with oneplus of returning the 8 pro for a new 8 pro as I have not owned/had the phone for greater than 15 days. If that does not resolve the issue, I too may go back to a oneplus 7 pro...or perhaps the 'dark side' and go the samsung route.

Excessiveidling,
This is exactly the type of info I was looking for. So it sounds like it is better, but still bizzare WiFi issues that no other phone on the market has. My situation is...
I have to leave bluetooth on because of watch and hearing aids
I need to rely on WiFI calling on occasion and need it to be 100% reliable.
I need working WiFi at home because I use my phone for some applications that connect via my home network, so having WiFi work "most but not all" of the time is a deal breaker.
So at this point I think I am going to switch back.
I've been a loyal OP fan for quite a while (4 phones now), this has been really disappointing. I even bought a new router because someone said WPA3 would help...but it didn't.

While I can not say anything to the validity of the following statement...I have heard in other forums that the samsung devices with the same qualcomm chipset had wifi/cellular issues (especially with 5g).....that was only ONE forum post however unlike the multitudes of forum posts I've seen regarding the oneplus.
If I were to guess, only based upon my limited modding experiences with previous android phones, an updated modem/chipset software COULD resolve these issues...further more a different/modified kernel as well. Doing that would probably void any warranty though and for spending 800+ on a phone, you shouldn't have to modify in order for it to work just as well if not better than an older phone.
I'll let ya know how the exchange goes. I'm willing to give them another shot 1. because of my excellent experience with the 7 pro and 2. because I've seen so many posts, reviews, etc stating the oneplus 8 pro is THE PHONE to have overall.
Thanks,

I read the same thing re - chipset, and agree that is a possibility. The other is a horrible RF design for the BT / WiFi antenna because they crammed in the wireless charging.
But I don't see any of this getting fixed anytime soon. I wonder if the OP8 (non pro) has similar issues -- I didn't check.
Let me know how your new phone works out - an RF HW update or a new batch of chips could change things.
