From reading multiple threads here and at AC, it seems a lot of people are getting an early start. Let's hope this trend continues for everyone who wants the official OTA.

Is it worth it over the EC01 builds? Are they the same thing?
Nope. They are similar, but custom rom is way better

ok cool i had 1 more question tho i have the vibrant 2.1 flashed which means i should get the update. and after update i am going to loose the root but i can root it again right?
"vibrant 2.1"
you mean you are stock? Or did you flash a custom rom?
You should be able to root it once you have stock froyo (once a developer figures out how to exploit it)... but I would not do the OTA update. Just keep your eye on XDA and you will have froyo + root, and it will be stock.
In the near future there will be custom ROMs that take froyo to the next level.
Wait wait wait...a T-Mobile representative said the first week in September? That goes against the opinion of several members of this forum. Are you sure that was said?

I heard in September... did not hear it would be that early. I just read his comment and marked it as a Rep trying to sell a phone.

Not with the same root file. But yes they will have a rooter for it so yea, get the update and wait for root. Or wait for a rooted version of the rom and flash it.
I personally will update ota then root when its available ....

I think I will wait for rooted version because the ota update will not include the lag fix

so does that mean even with 2.2 our phones will still lag?????? this is lame...too many issues with that lag fix people are reporting. and then im wondering if people who report "perfect, love it" ever come back to report issues when something goes wrong, or do they just quietly flash back without letting anyone know.

I did the one click lag fix the day it was released here on XDA. I'm still in love with it, no issues at all.

We have no idea what the 2.2 update will change, so there's no way to tell whether or not the perceived lag issues will still exist. Let's not spread speculation...it tends to end up being interpreted as fact by some people.

I tried RyanZA's 2-3 lag fix and had major problems with Google Maps after a while. I'm going to wait and see how the stock 2.2 performs before I do any more tweaking. Even then I'll probably wait for a stable custom ROM with a lag fix cooked-in...there are too many variables involved with re-partitioning the phone for me to trust a scripted installer 100% of the time.
I just called T-Mobile, and the rep I was given said she had no idea, but logging into your MyT-Mobile account might show some more information.
Just curious?

Can you clarify why when FroYo comes out it will require a different root procedure? I did not realize rooting was in any way related to the particular Android version. Going back to G1/MT3G days, once it was rooted, it was rooted, and then I flashed ROMS from Cupcake to FroYo as they came and never had to do any re-roots, that I can recall? I'm actually thinking the opposite of your thoughts. I've never had any lag with Eugene's V6, so I'm inclined not to update what works well (assuming what you said is correct) until "root for FroYo" is available. Being rooted allows you to do too many things, so I ain't gonna fix something that ain't broken now.

It'd be nice if they'd define the term "soon" a little more acurately.
The issue is probably that kies if you update kies to latest version you can't update your phone. Kies has to be version 1.5.1

Where have you been? This is old news.
It's basically a repackaged DL09 with the emergency bug worked out. Nothing to see here, folks.

lol IT'S NOT OUT YET!!
But right off the hop it's highly probable that the current rooting method will be closed. There are a few ways we may be able to attain it so here's to hoping. We'll just have to wait and see what the devs can deduce once it's available.

Yeah Gingerbreak will work till we get to 2.3.4 so far.
Hope this means a sooner update, but I wont hold my breath.
Given how much better the new blur appears over the current one, I'd gladly give up root for the update.

I used it for a bit with no problems, besides the brightness bug but use screen filter and bam! I recently went back to MikFroyo just because I love to mess with the framework.
