Hey Community,
Due to the company I work for being great. They have allowed me to borrow a working SGS2 for the night. So tonight I will be taking requests for anything people would like me to try out within reason. If you have a request post it or PM me
for all non believers here are some photo's... this is a test version so it is not perfect and I'm sure they're still working out some minor details...
I'm also looking for a good way to test the phones abilities on stock. Quadrant is not really that great for true tests.. so any idea's shoot over
can you take some screenshots of general things?
Homescreen, app drawer, notification bar, etc.
I love how it looks (the design of the phone not UI, but UI looks better than ours )
and i have a working terminator that skynet just happen to let me borrow today. so im taking request of going back into the past to beat up anyone's childhood bullies.

Someone get supercurio over here and tell me how to dump the ROM and I'll be happy too
I'll go post in the i9000 section
There must be a guide somewhere that tells you how to dump the ROM?
I imagine you'll need to use adb or similar to do it, so it'll have to be connected to a PC with a data cable. Do you have one?

OK, I found this in this similar thread.
you'd need to install busybox to /data/local then tar the /system
on adb shell:
cd /sdcard
ls // to make sure it's correctly here
chmod 755 /data/local/busybox // to make it executable
/data/local/busybox tar cvf dump.tar /system

I don't understand that, but someone here might.

I didn't undercut anybody. I spoke directly to Hector and obtained his permission to post this up before posting it.
On a side note, I felt my post would be easier for other's to read and use, since Hector had only posted a paragraph and a link to zenulator's original Hero ROM thread. He's, since then, copied info from zenulator's post and fixed his post up.

Is there any way you can get rid of the background image on the icons? To be honest they look like the xPhone and takes away from the Sense UI, which is crisp and clean.
when uploading roms, i suggest using multiupload..
rs gives users a maximum of 10 downloads before killing the link..
just a fyi

Just tried your Rev2 and I like it! It's quick and I haven't found a problem yet. Will bt it to my car radio on the way home. The icons are different than I am used to but they are growing on me...sort of Ipod Touchish. Good job!
It appears as though your extra downloads aren't signed...at least that is the message I got when I tried to flash.
So, I just grabbed the Hero port from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722122. And then, I did the following -
1) loaded into dsixda's kitchen and selected 'Advanced' and 'port'
2) used freshly compiled AOSP ROM with freshly compiled kernel as base for device (using Android Builder - link in sig)
3) replaced 'heroc' with 'desirec' in updater-script & build.prop
4) changed several lines in build.prop to change 'Sprint' into 'Verizon' & 'Hero CDMA' into 'Eris'
5) renamed 'init.heroc.rc' in ramdisk to 'init.desirec.rc'
6) copied 'desirec-keypad.kcm.bin' & 'desirec-keypad.kl' from planejane into appropriate locations
7) copied 'sensors.desirec.so' from planejane to appropriate location
Seriously. That's all that I did.
What works:
wifi
camera (no preview)
bluetooth (well it turns on, I don't have anything to test)
Market (after the Google bits are installed)
phone calls
3G
touch screen
buttons
lights
SMS
What doesn't work:
MMS (couldn't send)
OC won't work because the kernel I used doesn't have it.
This is really nice for no more work than it takes to port. It kind of hurts me, because I like the idea of compiling from source so much better...
I don't want to step on any toes of people who are doing real work, since I don't plan on maintaining this ROM. (Well, I didn't really do much of anything anyway!) So, hence the instructions above. Roll your own, if you want.
nice work has anybody tried this yet? i can guinea pig if not.
Edit:
Nevermind

Hey, I just provided the instructions... If I were going to post the ROM, I would make sure it's ok with darchstar. That's just me though. Since it's all open source, it may not matter one way or another.
So, yeah, it's ok with me! I haven't sent my build to anyone yet, so if you ported it, well, you ported it!
Thanks for asking. That's the way to be.
I do have one request though... If you make any more changes, can you post them too? And not just - "v53 - fixed thingy". I really like to see what people are doing, so I can learn how they did it. That's purely a request. You are in no way obligated.

Cool deal then. The next thing that I was going to do was change the "Sprint" in res/xml/eri.xml in the framework-res.apk to say Verizon. I had no idea of where to do that until last night when it was mentioned in the irc channel by andrew8806 & conap.
This is really good build. I'm using it right now as my everyday ROM. It will be good for this to be an option for people. It's just not a part of my plan... Muhahaha.
Rock on.
very informative, thanks for editing the title accordingly. =) don't need anymore flames rising. And also thanks for making sure to add the ASK DARCHSTAR part in the OP beings that there was already almost a issue between him the heroc community and one of the eris forum members(you already know who) due to a mixup.

If you are using dsixda's Kitchen, you can go to Advanced and then '15'. It will expand the boot.img out into a folder called BOOT-EXTRACTED, and there's a folder in there that is the contents of the ramdisk and the kernel. Be sure to build the boot.img back after making changes and before building the ROM.
This explains it -

Well done! Did you have to do anything that I did not list in the instructions in this thread? Share?
Honestly, it's real tempting to take yet another detour and make a plugin for the kitchen that will do the steps in the OP (CDMA Hero --> Eris) and maybe another one that's Eris --> CDMA Hero.
I don't think it will take much time to do, and it will make Hero ports even easier for people who don't have the time to dig into things as well as they probably should if they are going to be a dev. (There is a downside to making all of this easier to do...)
HD Build Tweak,.
1install nand hd build of your choice as usual..at first boot clean up home screens..get su permission by running a root app..then connect to adb..delete squashed.sq ,,reboot,,
it will stuck at cyan htc screen,,after a while adb will reconnect,, push squashed.sqsh after finish ..reboot
wait for reboot
*droid explorar and android commander works
****for rooting*****
install su.apk from market ..reboot...now install z4root with adb.dont disconnect from adb run z4root.... you will see "su" is asking for permission if not {reboot} that should do the trick....
* Mod EDIT *

Hahahaha No. Your not a cab driver are you. Do you know the answer to my original question?
I want to change the file extension, I had my brother do this through adb but I am not at all knowing of this stuff.
This is for the fully charged sound. - i tried root explorer but it doesnt work.
TW_Low_Battery.ogg and TW_Low_Battery.bak
to
TW_Battery_caution.ogg and TW_Battery_caution.bak
in /system/media/audio/ui
I think you can just move "adb mv /dir/file.old /dir/file.new"
Maybe substitute mv for cp...its been so long since I've done it.

Eh, sometimes we can cooperate, other times he can't be reasoned with at all. Many of the questions he asks here, he ends up asking me, which annoys me because it wastes other people's time, so I post in his threads asking him to stop and sometimes provide a solution to the problem for other readers to see.
Thank you chinoto for that document

It's a very good sign that twrp team is trying to work on our note 4.

Big biff is a heavyweight.
I have not yet rooted or I would be on this. If I can make a difference I will root this thing.

He asked for people to post what they got and they did. No place in the op did he say just 1 person. I am assuming he wanted to make sure they all got the same thing. So they should post over and over till he tells them he is good.

Boricua, I'm pretty sure one or two, maybe three, should be enough. By now he should know how to proceed. Hopefully he'll figure it out pretty soon.

I don't dispute that his comment was a little harsh - but your reaction to it was equally harsh - no need for that here - I have seen other development threads become reduced to a bunch of childish bickering over the silliest things - and I personally believe that is really out of place in a forum designed for people to help each other - so please consider how you want to be treated and maintain a level of respect that each of us, including you deserve.
I know that I would appreciate that - as I am sure many others will as well.
And plese, some one hit my thanks meter - it is at 6-6-6 and it is scaring the hell out of me - LOL
this guy is obvioulsy not sure what he's doing. his commands don't output anything
what a derp
I got 1| as well.
