Kernel Update - Fixes WIFI Tethering - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY HAPPEN TO YOUR DEVICE
Hi guys,
Just the kernel update (still Froyo) to enable WIFI tethering. Putting it here so people don't have to sift through the 38 page thread
http://www.apksmash.com/x5/update.zip
Just put it on your SD Card, boot in to recovery and go install zip from SD card, navigate to where you put the update.zip and install
All of this thanks to Stockwell Without him the Dev wouldn't be as far as it is.

just a note from the original topic:
applying the above update "may" cause issue to the battery which indicates "over-voltage" of it.. this issue is also reported/discussed in the chinese forum hiapk.com..
those having applied the update, keep us informed if there are new findings on this issue..

Want to also throw in, to avoid this be at 100% when youapply it (as far as I can tell this avoids it)

Might try this a little later.
Does this wipe the data from your X5?

I can't help wondering though, why did Huawei remove it when it's a part of Froyo. They even have it running on the cheapie U8150.

It's not as simple as that, the wifi drivers have to support it too. They probably just had issues with it and decided it was better to release it and push the update later rather than set back the release date.

It looks like it is disabled by the request of their partner operators.

applied kernel update
Wireless tether working as i type, but thats not gunna surprise anyone.
no bugs noticed, will get back here if anything comes up.
it is great to have this working.
i am on AU model.
edit *********
ok now i've got it, i thought it was to make th wireless tether app work because it would connect but not transfer data.
now i see it adds a native wireless tether setting to the android wireless settings menu.
this is much better and supports wpa2.
awesome (and i do not say this lightly) uninstalling wireless tether app now.
still no sign of bugs since updating kernel.
thanks again everyone involved.

Does anyone have this running on NZ version We are due to get an OTA version anytime so am wondering whether to apply this or wait

Nah I only made this for B135 (the Australian firmware specifically but should work on any B135 build I suppose).

I applied this update but now it takes a bit longer to boot and it removed my theme and overclocking. Not really a big deal just thought users should know.

Just be aware that if you would like to now use an overclocked kernel you need the kernel for B136.

Has anyone noticed some improvements on wifi stability with b136? On 135 there was like no chance connecting to zyxel with wpa2, but with 136 it seems stable even with wpa2...

I'm not sure if you can install this but the update should already be included in B160.

[FW] New Firmware - 2.3.20

Hi all,
We have a new firmware, 2.3.20
I think it's enough to write

Damn, and I just switched over to UrukDroid. What am I supposed to do now?

switch back to stock or wait until urukdroid devs merged the changes into urukdroid
Some tests with the new firmware should be done.
Can it be downgraded back to 2.1.08?
Is archangel working?
Anybody volunteer to being the Guinea pig?
Because they have changed the format of the Medialibrary, they prevent the downgrade.
Wifi channels above 10 are not working atm.
Otherwiese it feels better.
It looks smoother than before. And I had somr problems with some piano apps before there was no voice with some of them. But now all of them working. I don't know it's related with fw though
On my archos 101 the browser is now much smooter and multi touch zooming is better and everithing is lot faster even some games aren't so laggy.

Apparently Archangel does not work anymore.
Holy **** archangle wont work any more (thats true). What now? Will there be uptate for archangle.

a) if Archos really closed the leak which archangel was using to gain root privileges, they have to find another leak and you have to wait until they found it
b) you have to use the SDE root method (which will be available as soon as I get my A101IT back from Archos)
c) life without root privileges
I installed 2.3.02, but the downgrade doesn't work (the update is too old...).
Is there an other possibility to downgrade?
No, no downgrade possible.
Does upgrading to newer fw clears/deletes my current files? Im still using 2.0.71 fw.

Is this actually still 2.2, despite the release #?
Also, anyone else out there use Move2SD enabler (root) and then do this upgrade? I am a little nervous what will happen with those apps that were previously moved to SD in this non-standard way.
Thanks,

Archos release numbers have nothing to do with what version of Android that is being run.
There is no root in this firmware yet so Move2SD will not work. The regular apps2sd that is built in to Froyo will work though.
Thanks for the quick response.
I still am unclear what will happen with the apps that I already moved prior to the upgrade.

They won't work. At least that is my guess as I have never used that program before.
Is it worth it though?? Your thoughts....
Ok, I have my A101IT rooted via Chulri's way and it's running smooth n' sweet but I have a question about this apparent new updated Firmware Version 2.3.02? Am I correct to have understood that ..."there was a leak but the leak is currently non-existent and you can't get the new 2.3.02 Firmware any more"? If not, where can you get it... (I.E. - Posting a link to it)?
Also, with those of you who have tested this new Firmware 2.3.02 and/or are currently using it on their Archos 70/101IT tablet (granted it's possible to install right now)... is it worth updating to AND other than "not being able to downgrade because of the Media Library issue are there any other reported issues or areas of concern? How about any advantages over Froyo 2.1.08 WITH full Root Access (which is what I currently have)? Would there be any improvements in things such as Overclocking speed and lag issues with this new 2.3.02??
OK that's my first post here,
I had urukdroid 0.7 installed. I restarted in android mode and downloaded the AOS FILE, then restarted an proceeded with the upgrae. I dont have the root rights anymore but can choose to start in android mode (2.3.02) or in developer mode (urukdroid) 2.1.8 , I can remote control the Archos 101 from my Samsung Galaxy S iin android mode not in Urukdroid. The bootloader is 4.04.000000. I hope it helps.
The other problem is that I had to dislable the screen autosleep as it doesn't wake up anymore in android mode (That's not the case in developer Urukdroid mode).
PS: I still have the root rights in Urukdroid (developer mode), I had to clean the Titanium backup cache as it didn't showed anymore the applications.

[Q] Which rom do most of us use for U8800 everyday

Hi gals & guys!
I just got notified and downloaded over the air an update here in Australia.
Believe it or not, I'm still using B133 build ... no updates, not even root, "clockwork" or "perfect" recovery. You see, my U8800 is very useful just as it is, and I use it for work so I'm reluctant to break something that maybe could work better, but works OK just as it is.
I'd like wifi tethering (though I use usb tether a lot and it works well) and FM radio receiver (which I'm told the Snapdragon CPU has and just needs the correct firmware to "switch on").
All this is my way of saying maybe I won't update, specially when the OTA - pushed file comes with no info about what has changed.
So, there's a survey attached to this post .. which build version and modification options is everyone using?

I really like the B160, as the wifi is really working, camera looks great and calling works flawless, one downside is that when getting a phonecall you will see the answering image looks retarded and the answering motion is not so good. Overall its wonderful.
From where can I know which version I am using? when I get on the About menu.. I see a lot of version stuff, but I dont see any B133 or B135 etc.. Any help on how I can find this out?
But when I go to update the rom it says no updates available
I use B160 Complete rom with all fixes and 1.5Ghz kernel. Perfect recovery and I use the ROM update--use INTERNAL 2GB SD as data.
runs great
better battery life.
WiFi hot spot is very usable.
OC to 1 ghz. have tried up to 1.5 but found 1 to be stable and a nice increase from stock speed.
using smartass for scaling.
cifs is very usable also.
I have this same setup on my phone and my wifes phone.

Go to "Settings", "About phone" then scroll down to "Build number". You will see a long number, towards the end of the number will be the letter 'B' followed by 3 digits ... that is your "B" version number.
As for no updates available, that will depend on what country you are using the phone in. Not every place on the planet gets the same update at the same time.
Hope this helps!

Someday soon you will get it I am sure of it !
I mean come on this phone is really great and works flawless, why wouldn't it get CM?
B160 all the way for me. Fully working, solid as the default rom only better...
I will be installing the 2gb update also soon..
FWIW
M..
I'm running B133.
Thanks trevh
Running B136 here, rooted (z4root) with Clockwork Recovery, INTERNAL 2GB SD as data, some build.prop & hwVolumeFactor.cfg tweaks, launcher pro and overclocked to 1GHz.
I was running B160 but the constant restarts when using data over 2G was getting to me (same bug found in B135).
Only thing left on my wish list for this phone is...
fixing the WiFi drop-out problem (it's not a massive issue for me)
improving the performance of the camera (takes way too long to take a photo)
getting the volume button to take pictures using the default app

That's interesting, the official B136/B160 install must flash a new radio baseband (even though the version number remains the same). If you're wanting to try the B160 rom again it most likely would no longer have this reboot problem. I will look into the matter further.

Verizon Pushing Update

Not sure what it is but a couple of people on the Verizon Site say they are being pushed a update
Even though it say's ed05 on the PDF
It is EH03
Here is the updated PDF from Verizon.
That PDF is ED05 and not the update I just downloaded and applied.
Firmware version
2.3.5
Baseband version
S:i500.04 V.EH03
Kernel version
2.6.35.7
Build number
SCH-I500.EH03
I just opened it and is definitely EH03, you have to refresh the page if you have opened the pdf page from Verizon's site recently to make it show the correct page.
Here ya go: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20768745/samsung_fascinate.pdf
good to know...was gonna be a tad irritated if it wasnt eh03 lol
First problem i have encountered is my picture share to bluetooth and then send to my computer keeps failing. I guess I will be doing a factory reset sooner than i had originally planned.
I have tried removing the device from the bluetooth list, but it seems i can't find delete anymore.
I have removed the phone from the computer, added it again, and still can't share pictures over the bluetooth. I will try a few other things later on after work.
Waiting to see how my battery life will be after streaming bluetooth music another 4 hours of my work day.
sd card encryption
Has anyone seen that the new GB update is supposed to contain SD card encryption? I have been waiting for that for the last year. Is it true and does it work?
I have the leaked eh03 package installed a few days ago on my phone, I was wondering if this OTA build is the same as the leaked one. Thanks!

I checked the update pdf and it states the download manager app being included which is not in the leaked version, I am assuming that it might have other minor improvements. I have to wait for the OTA update to be posted to install, my phone has a bad esn and I believe that is the only way to install the new update. BTW, it might be too early but does anyone know where I can download the OTA update. Thanks!

So I rooted my wife's Fascinate and put CWM on it (no change in ROM other than root+recovery), and when I try to install this update it just boots to CWM. I figure it is trying to call a command to the original recovery which isn't there anymore.
Does anyone know how I can get this update under my strange configuration? This is probably the weirdest question ever, but can I flash the stock recovery back??

Odin back to ed05 which is the latest VZW release. (Package by pentafive). Let it fully load, then try to push the update through settings, about phone, system update.
I don't see the point in doing this but that's how I would do it

Yeah I was trying to do it without wiping anything, shrug.

is there a way to manually download el30- sprint?

OK, a long time ago, I did a manual update on my EPIC 4g (sprint). I am thinking that is why I am unable to download the update through the setting tab a week after the update came out. I know everyone has it now. I have no idea what update I did on my phone last year... but I havnt been able to get firmware updates from sprint since them. I'd kinda like to have this one.
Does anyone know of a link that has this update, I can load to my SD card and execute on the phone? I just want to be able to reboot to the new ROM, I dont want to have to hook up to a PC and load it that way. I need a rookie, easy way to do this.
Thanks!!!
You most likely have either rooted or removed at least 1 pre-installed application. That would cause the EL30 update not to install. You can find the .zip file in both the General and Development forums.
If you have rooted or removed any pre-installed apps, then the stock .zip file won't install for you. You would need to make sure you're on a custom kernel for your current build (most likely EC05 or EI22), get CWM 5 installed and then install one of the near stock roms in the Dev forum.
Yea, it was so long ago, I dont know if it is rooted or not? I have been away from this stuff for quite a while and have completely lost touch. CW5? is that an app that I can install directly from the SD card? Also, does the dev forum have ROM's that I can install from SD as well? - sorry for all the questions!

Go to your Settings > About Phone to see what your baseband, kernel and OS build are.
Yes the dev forum has kernels and roms available for you to flash. Google search "QBKing77 youtube channel" to get how-to videos for doing everything.
Baseband = your modem version. This is completely independent of your kernel and OS and can be a different version from those two.
Kernel & OS build = these must match in build #. Example would be EC05, EI22 and EL30. Some custom kernel's do not include the build # on the About Phone screen, but stock would.
CWM = ClockworkMod Recovery. This is a custom recovery tool that allows you to flash custom roms, kernels, mods and themes.
Easiest way to see if you're rooted is to look for the application Superuser in your application list. If it's there, then you're most likely rooted.
is there a way to unroot this handset and allow the sprint update to come thru? If not, what is the name of a good (stock) gingerbread ROM? There are a ton of them over on the dev side and honestly I dont want to mess with he clockwork stuff. Im kinda pinched for time.
I did find the CWM5 zip - i assume i can run that directly from the SD card, then apply the new ROM.
no superuser... know that I think back, I dont think I did root it. But I dont know why else the carrier update wont work?
ok, I just looked @ the current version(s).
BASEBAND: d700.0.55.DK28
KERNAL:2.6.32.9
BUILD: FROYO.DK28
so, what is going to be the easiest way to get this to EL30?
I am almost done bothering you guys - I promise!
Odining the el30 stock package and flashing an ec05 modem and then flashing the ec05 to el30 delta

I was able to download both from the FTP here: ftp://slatesftp:[email protected]/slates/think/tablet1/
Now the question I am wondering is... Is it worth it? Potentially sacrificing root and CWR? I have been running 0.0.7.3 CM9 build for many months now and am curious to what you all think.
Pros/Cons? I've heard battery life is terrible, which is odd because I feel like I have good battery life on the CM9 Port. Also... Is root completely gone? Does OTA Rootkeeper help? My biggest concern (I'd probably even lose root if it is fixed), does the pen work as advertised? Or is the infamous 'pen wonk' bug still present?
Pen wonk = writing notes for ~10-15 minutes, pen is suddenly not responsive. Sleep/waking the device fixes it usually. This has been present in every stock Honeycomb build as well as all the CM9 Port builds so I am very curious if this is fixed because I believe it is a hardware issue (Lenovo please prove me wrong). Any info would be much appreciated.

I was able to go from a rooted, CWM'd device (US 64GB) to a fully rooted device without CWM.
After a few painful steps to get an old busybox file restored and stock recovery enabled, the upgrade process was very simple and so far it is working very well with ICS. There hasn't been enough time to judge battery life yet....
Make sure you follow the instructions that other's have posted about using RootKeeper. That is the only thing I needed to use to restore root perfectly.

I updated with CWR rather than reverting to stock recovery. Everything worked fine. However, it did get rid of the stock recovery.

That is good news about the ability to keep root. At least in keeping root, we should theoretically be able to restore CWR.

How were you able to update using CWR?

I commented out the lines of the update script that checked for "indigo" in build.prop.
so you're now on official ISC with Root AND CWM ??
it's a great news !

I did not have CWR to start.
I downloaded the update through the "update" menu on the device.
Update failed due to gps.conf being modified.
Reverted to what I thought was old gps.conf, update still failed.
Install CWR
Try update through CWR
Still fail, due to indigo being required in build.prop (this error is caused by CWR)
Commented out the Indigo lines in the update-script in the update
Flashed again
Still failed for gps.conf.
Commented out each line in update-script mentioning gps.conf
flashed again, it worked.
I take you flashed 310 first then 400?
Where is the script located?

The update-script is in the META-INF/com/google/android folder in the zip. a # sign will comment out any line.
Do I put the number sign in the front?
