I find myself constantly refreshing the android dev forum, scouring thru developers websites, and stalking their twitter pages, looking for an update to the latest ROM. I almost never use my vibrant for what it is anymore...a phone! This website has ruined me. I spend my whole day pressing F5 over and over and over. Flashing, reflashing, flashing, reflashing, ERROR, ODIN, flashing, reflashing. Im sick, i need help. I can see it now....FOX news reporting "Kids trying new drug...street name "XDA"." Its a massacre.
haha jk
Lol im the same way is there a cure im I think im dying little by little lol great post

For real dude I was watching a medical show as well a looking through xda and heard the heart rate monitor in the background and cause I've done so much to this phone I thought I did something wrong I put it up to my ear like oh crap that can't be good and my wife was like that's the tv dumb ass
This site did take me off of facebook though so I've got that going for me I'm in love with my vibrant there it at least has vibrant in the thread once edit: twice

Whats even worse I'm getting a laptop just for the purpose of having odin handy..24 hours being a dad and working 24 hours xda and modding cause of course this site has a mobile app my days are so much longer now

I want to agree with everyone's elses comments on here. I feel like all the other people on this subject. Looking for the next best ROM for the phone. Always trying to make it better.
"hi my name is all ~g1, and yes, yes ... I am an addict!" :tear:
Now that the froyo storm has passed & R12 is in the recalibration stage I think, or at least I hope, I'll keep the staking down by half. I'm happy, for now.
Waiting patiently for 2.3 nexus $ release... Lol.
Yes I'm in this boat as well. My wife keeps yelling at me to put the damn phone down. She even complained to her therapist about my flash addiction!

also ever since i started flashing roms i feel the need to learn how to create my own roms and modifications. Luckily my laziness overcomes this feeling, but still.

haha true. but my friends dont know **** about technical stuff and most of them just have messaging phones (LG Vu, Sharp FX, blah blah) so if i try to explain anything about my phone to them there like clueless haha. And im not even going to bother talking to people who have an iphone. I wonder that spell they are put under when they buy that phone so that no matter what, they think there phone is 100x better than anyone else's when its not lol. but this isnt a iphone bashing thread so ill leave it at that.

lol this is also what's happening to me today! especially the froyo roms are on the hype today. when i wake up the very first thing that i will do is to look if there's an update on the development section.
Hi my name is 12paq.
I have been modding hard since my Pocket PC days. I have increased to 8-10 hours a day since getting my Vibrant and trying flashing for the first time. Don't blame Odin or Rom Manager, they are just delivery devices.
My wife has left me, my daughter won't talk to me and my dog left me for another dude. (Sounds like all Country music).
I refuse to believe I have a problem. It is everyone else that has a problem!
Now back to reading XDA. Tonight I'm mixing it with top shelf Gin for extra buzz. Now leave me alone!
Sent from my SGH-T959 which I could stop using the XDA App any time I want.
Xda was like crack for me (I love crack ) back when I had my g1. It was awful, hours and hours each day, up all night. I was so burnt out I was actually relieved to get the mytouch 3g and keep it stock, I finally realized how great android just is, of course I flashed update zips early but I didn't modify it, I finally rooted my nexus to try 720 which completely blew but that's it I love my vibrant and I want froyo bad but these threads are the same as they were back with my g1, there's always an issue, there just isn't any rom as stable as stock, the ones that are close are basically stock anyway so what's the point? Faster maybe, but not as stable. Anytime I check a rom thread people are asking for help, that crap has helped me stay on the wagon. If there was a froyo zip for unroored vibrants though, I'd jump on it...

Hate too pull you off the wagon but T-Moble and Sammy aren't known for their well vetted bug free updates. The ones on XDA seem better supported. Many fans here of many Froyo updates. Just wait and don't be the first to try the first version unless you want to play beta tester, a good cause too.
I'm using Tmo stock 2.2 fro Eugene with Klang kernel and it rocks with far less bugs then any crud official. You see the complaints here way more then the successes.
Come on... try it... I dare ya... just once you'll like it...
This **** spreads too. I got one of my friends hooked on flashing custom roms to his old WinMo phone and he's now followed my footsteps and picked up a Vibrant because of how much he loves to play with the new roms I flash every week. I have another friend who's on AT&T who has been following the Captivate forum so he is now wanting to get one so that he can try the xda drug for himself. Haha!

Thanks for the laughs!
We probably scared some people too, snicker snicker...
Im a epic lover...... dont mean to do any fights or anything like that...
we have been in so much drama ... and i know some ppl making threads because of no havin time to read!!!! (i did it once)... anyways my point is here!!
i just saw the evo thread and for some reason they have the 2.3 ginge.. working in the evo(not full but they are in the way_) is a dirty hack from sdk but still they got it to work
we have great devs here!! (noob... bubby323.. syndicate ... and some other just to name some!!.... btw to bad for noob that he left us...) i know they can make it work!! i know is hard and it takes alot time so lets just chillax a lil./.. right now im learing how to theme ... which isnt bad .... just need lil bit more time and i know is not the same as dev... but is something!!
so i think we have the power and the ppl to make this work and only giving the best to the ppl ... without the (spr. and sammy) bootloads lol!!... so please ppl..
lets get a positive work here ... and not fight!!!... and u guys can erase this thread or not!! just want us a a commmunity to get in that same track as other phone users!!!
thanks for u time !!!
The best way to bring christmas (android) cheer, is to sing loud for all to hear! Our dev's rock, and we will be there soon, cause once our final release is dropped and the source is released we will be on the same page as the Evo. No doubt about that.
The reason you aren't seeing anything for the Epic yet is that in like 8 days they are releasing a phone almost identical to ours with gingerbread. Once the source for that rom is released, it should be a lot easier to port. Still gonna be a TON of work though.

well dont get me wrong!! but if we havent get the froyo update...///and even tho sammy has work on the 2.3 (ginger...) for a few months... what makes u think we can port it ... i bellieved nexus s is not a cmda phone that make alot diff. to port it... even tho they might or do have same hardwares!!
I don't know how many people here has actually used Roms built from an SDK but there is a ton of stuff missing always that can't just be fabricated out of thin air. Sometimes though a decent rom can be made out of an SDK and a dump from another device that has all the bells and whistles. None of this matters anyways because in this subform people complain when their lock screen lags as unusable so phones would go through the wall with something that would have as many bugs as this would have.

+1 im running dk28 as a daily use bug free and I see threads popping up about how bad it is. 1/2 of all problems I'm reading about are install related. This also speaks to a lack of organization in the epic forum. Combine that with the spread out duplicate files all over (i think there are 3 different di18 pit files, at least 2) the whole development forum needs to be restructured. On top of that add in how critical the standards are from the users like onilink said. Have patients and quit holding the epic to the Evo just cause there is a froyo leak. When the source is out and the kernel gets overclocked, then we can start a new outlook for Epic development.

I installed DK28 via the 3-button method, didn't do a wipewipewipe or factory reset. I have since done the wipewipewipe, and that did help speed/smoothness wise. I'm having pretty cruddy battery life though...seems like a dumb question (and I'm not sure how this could be related, but here goes) but could not doing the factory reset left some garbage in there that's causing this problem? I'm running watchdog and I don't see anything out of the ordinary, this thing just goes through the battery like a piranha on speed.
At this point, I'm seriously thinking about Odining back to DK18. I take the phone off charge at 6:30 am, and it's dead by 2pm.
A factory reset is mandatory to install froyo

I wouldn't worry about it. As long as people have been waiting, and as much excitement and joy this release is going to create, I would hope no one would say anything about multiple threads right after the release. Just let everyone share their excitement as long as XDA doesn't end up with 20 new threads. Then in a day or so the threads can be combined. Let's all support the part of the Fascinate family that made what was for them the right choice and didn't root. This is their day to shine and celebrate.
her phone is definitely faster and smoother. gps seems to work a little better. when gb comes, i may trade her for my bolt lol
Manual ED01 download links and update instructions for those who don't have the update available or want to download it and play with it first.
I will personally donate money to whomever does, and I'm sure others will too. I can't believe it's been out for a day already and nobody has submitted the update to a developer.
Relax. Official launch date is tomorrow. I'm sure somebody will post it by then.

Yeah but I'm off work today and not tomorrow.
I would have to agree with the OP on this one - I would have bet a large sum of money that by now that not only would the original update have been spread around, but that it would have already been all over the development area in the form of update.zip's with a pershoot OC kernel version hitting the dev area before the actual OTA's hit tomorrow. And I would have thought even that would have been conservative. Guess there really weren't many people in NYC (at least xda people) who went to pick up the in-person update. Oh well.
Yup, pretty wild..... But its prolly just because the official release is so close nobody feels the need.

Well I know it isn't that big of a deal, but you would have thought that one of the posters who got that update would have been able to flash CWM and upload their system.img and boot.img for one of the devs to make a flashable zip with.
It would have been nice for those of us already running one of the TW leaks or another 3rd party rom to not have to go all the way back to stock, do a factory wipe and all that jazz to grab the update.
Well, after some misinformed past rumors, I am finally leaving the Evo. I make this thread not because I feel like I'm 'important' or that anyone will care, but because of the community. Despite the past ICS fallout between users and developers, the Evo community has been one of the best on XDA, and can say that it was nice being apart of it. Made some good friends, and a few enemies, but comes with the territory. I'll still pop in from time to time, but I know I will see some of you in my new home, the Galaxy S III [will be here tomorrow]. Do keep the Evo name standing, as its a great device.

Oh yea, can do. And actually won't keep the evo [in my possession]; sending it home to my dad. He's on an optimus S and hates it, so big upgrade for him, and will do more than it needs for him. Best investment you can make on a galaxy device man, should be the first apps you purchase once you decide you're keeping the device. Yea Odin is a bit tricky at first, the things you'll probably have more questions with are the dreaded brick bug(idk if the sgs3 is plagued with that nuisance or not, I hope not) and how to avoid it, since its a permabrick if it hits you. The whole method of doing stuff on Samsung is just alien when coming from HTC. Took me a few weeks b4 I was back to flashing like a junkie again with out reading and rereading every step over and over prior to trying something new. I've had a few months with the sgs2 now so if you have questions about samsungs whole crazy zimage/recovery and how recovery is baked into the kernel and changes every time you change kernels I'm more than happy to answer em the best I can or point you in the direction of your answers atleast.

Much appreciated man, and actually been doing some reason: the kernel and boot image on the G S III were separated so its actually a lot safer to root. In addition I've looked up the G S III root [international version] and actually QUITE painless, even using Odin. Since there were minimal hardware specs, aside from processor of course, but I believe the root will be the same or extremely similar. I originally was going to buy the original galaxy S, but I refused to get the epic with a hard keyboard, so I went with the Evo; though not like it was a bad choice.

That's cool they seperated the kernel from the recovery now, on the ET4G there's no normal boot.img its called a zImage and has the kernel and recovery in the same partition so flashing a kernel changes your recovery. It can get quite confusing going from rom to rom and build to build and having to remember which recovery which backup was made with so you can Odin it to restore we still don't have official ICS or kernel source yet so flashing ICS roms requires first flashing a GB kernel with pure CWM to avoid a blue light of death brick. Talk about confusing, it took me a week of reading before I had the balls to try ICS but now I can mOdin el26+cwm kernel and flash ICS in my sleep. I've been running aokp since march never went back to gb except the few times I bootlooped and had to Odin to el29(latest GB ota) and start fresh. Once you get a feel for it and get any questions you have lingering out of the way its painless but the first few times you're sweating missles waiting to it to flash and boot and praying you didn't just brick, LOL. My first venture to ICS I chewed off all my nails while flashing it, I was so nervous I forgot something and was gonna fry my eMMC chip and be bricked.
ETA: what's even worse for me is I have 4 different manufacturers devices all different methods of flashing and its hard keeping it all straight, going from HTC, to Amazon to Motorola to Samsung and trying to remember which one you flash how is an exercise in frustration :banghead:

Having dev'd on the Moment, I remember the zimage! Actually the best way to work with adding a kernel to a ROM

Its just a pain in the ass for recovery, only because every time you change kernels if the new one has a different recovery your recovery then changes. On the et4g we have cwm, rogue and acs custom recoveries, and not all backups are compatible across all recoveries so you gotta try and keep track of what goes with what since we have to use the el26 kernel with pure cwm recovery to safely flash ICS without bricking I use it for everything recovery, but that requires me to Odin the el26 kernel everytime I need to do something in recovery and since I run ICS I then have to flash an ICS kernel to reboot my phone. Its more of a hassle/annoyance than anything just cuz of all the extra steps required to flash/backup etc
