Source code has been released for I-9000

lets hope we get 2.3 then source a day later...
wow am i dreaming?
probably.
Old news ;]
Seriously, do people not search?
Even though this is the vibrant section, i9k new does get posted here, and something as major as 2.3 kernel source is NOT going to go unnoticed. This is what, the 4th or 5th thread about it? And wasn't the kernel source dropped sometime over the weekend?

wait... they're making gingerbread for the vibrant?! When was this information released!?!
/end sarcasm
It was posted on the samsung site 3-4 days ago I down loaded the source code for GB on Saturday

I don't know if this has been answered yet I was wondering why we don't have a overclock kernel for dk28. Thanks In advance for your answers.

No source code for DK28 has been released.

Exactly!!

So where did we even get DK28 in the 1st place?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It was leaked fully compiled
So there is no way to make a custom kernel with no source?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Not a practical one, it can be done but takes a LOT of work in comparison to one based off of source code
Ok thanks I was wondering about that for a bit now!!
[derail]
DJ29, DK05, DK17, and DK28 were all leaked within a matter of days from each other. And after that we haven't been given any new leaks. Was the guy who released the builds fired?
On top of that, DK05 and DK28 were compiled within 23 days of each other. The differences between those two were pretty big and if development continued at that rate, we would have a released build by now. Perhaps Samsung took a break for the other phones?
[/derail]
Nice observation.

Not to be an ass but we already had thread like this in general. It doesn't have anything to do with vibrant as they received their froyo while back. And we received our froyo like a week ago..

Well receiving the official rom and the source are two different things. You can do much more with the source like making kernels that are much more stable and fast and build better roms.

I'm saying Samsung is not going to release the source right away after they just released the Rom. I will be surprised if they did.

Rogers got the ROM around January 6...source about a month after...they will probably follow suit with the vibrant also. A few more weeks minimum...

Guess what everyone. If you look on Twitter, you'll see that Eugene got his hands on T959 Vibrant SOURCE. Yes, for OUR phones... no "D" on the end. I would say we can expect good things to come very soon.

I just peeped that.....I can't wait
I see he just released an update for his kernel that's built from source. He won't say how he got source though, and no one else has it.
I'm about to try out the kernel though, so we'll see how big this really is.

Not sure if the kernel source has even been made available to the awesome devs we have while I was considering/searching for BNL for froyo.
Has the kernel been made available and if so has anyone looked at what it would take to implement BLN?
If not, whatever, I can wait a little longer.... and if Samsung has their way.... 2 years till my contract ends.

The source likely won't be released until the update is official and pushed out

There is a post in dev section about kernel source being built for the fascinate from the i9000 source. It is alpha at the moment.
I don't see an official source being released until months after the OTA.
I did see that the i9000 alpha was release yesterday or the day before. While I don't understand all of what was said the basic principle is that there are problems with the video drivers and/or modules.
Worth a shot to ask though since I am not sure if BLN is baked in or is a loadable module?

It is baked into the kernel drivers for the touchkeys. Until SirGatez/birdman/someone get the i9000 source working, there can't really be any modifications done that require modifications to kernel source. The only other option would be Samsung releasing the source that we need, but that is likely not going to happen first, and will probably be about a month or so after the release of Froyo is official.
Well I guess that answers that. Certainly wish them the best of luck within the i9000 source. Now off to hate/bash the samsung representative fellow lurking around.

I know there are about 12,000 threads on Gingerbread, but I have yet to see anyone point out a link or a website or anything where we can go to confirm when Gingerbread has been OFFICIALLY released for the Epic 4G. The last I heard on these forums, it was last slated for the last week of July. It's now the last day of July, but I don't see any posts about an official release and how/where to get it. And I keep seeing the word "STOCK" in the mod rom forum, which is confusing...have they officially released Gingerbread for the Epic 4G yet? If not, is there a new date for it's release? Is there a website or specific thread that I can routinely check that will announce when it's out? I just saw a thread showing a leaked pic about the EOL for the Epic 4G in October of this year. Having just switched from the Tilt 2 on AT&T to the Epic 4G on Sprint 2 months ago, I'm not fond of seeing that my new phone will be out of date in another 2 months.
Can anyone clear up some of this confusion?
Thanks.

there is no official release date. what you see in development are leaks.
No official release yet. Just leaks.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
That's just when they are going to stop manufacturing new ones. There's plenty of development left to come. Right now it looks like a possible September release for the official. These leaks come out and its almost as if we are Samsung's beta testers used to search out the glitches. The EG22 leak is actually pretty good. If you are big on GPS use, you may want to go with the EE03 modem. As far as an official release date, as soon as its known, you will se a thread here with a link to the source of the info almost immediately. Try out a few of the GB ROMs here. There are some very nice ones. If you want a Froyo ROM that has everything working, try SRF 1.2 or Urban Regeneration.

But also, according to Tweets from Samfirmware, they have information of two builds to be released Mid and/or late August at least from what I've gathered, so we've leaks but we're close to a possible Official Release.
A while back didn't someone say that Samsung guaranteed us two more updates? I couldn't even attempt to find the thread it was mentioned in, can't remember any title it would belong to.

Yup, I was told that by someone on G-Talk as well. I was told 2 more leaks by the end of August. That's why I said maybe September. I don't mind. Let them fix that modem. Let the GPS get fixed at least as good as Froyo and the stock browser and such. The leaks are good enough to keep people happy for now. I am patient. I still use Froyo as my daily.

In an ideal world I'd like to think so, but for that they probably in the end would want more premium accounts and possibly couldn't deliver something as pivotal as that, I'd like to hope I'm proven wrong honestly.
