[Q] Liberty 2.0.1 Epic Blue Theme Issues. - Droid X General

All.
My appologies if the fix is somewhere through this wonderful maze of knowledge. I have recently updated to a donated version of Liberty 2.0.1. I love this ROM. I have also themed to the amazing Epic Blue theme. Running Launcher Pro Plus with very little other mods or tweaks. My issue is that everytime I apply the theme, my Market app breaks. I can no loner find it in my app drawer and the short cut on home screens is there but doesn't work. Then I try to reinstall it via another theme or by file manager it still will not install. I'm still rather new to ROMs, but have technical knowledge. Any guidance on how to reinstall the market app will be appriciated. Right now the only way to get it back is to really store a backup or wipe everything and really flash which as you all know is time consuming.

If you go to settings > applications > manage applications, is it in the list under all?

Thanks for the reply. No. That's strange right? Its now where. The only thing I can think is its because I have a custom icon for it on the dock using launcher pro plus. But, if that where true them all apps like this would act the same right?

Im pretty sure the marketis not installed on your phone. I have two ways to get it back:
1. Using root explorer, go into one of the themes and copy the market app into /system/app. Then install it
2. Google search 38 themed markets. It should be the first site. Download one, and flash it in CWM.

Hey man, stetsonaw from DF (aka the creator of EpicBlue).
It seems you downloaded my OLD version of the theme, which breaks markets, that WAS in the Liberty Toolbox.
Here's what you do.
-Install Liberty without wiping data (wipe cache and dalvik cache)
-Verify the market is now there
-head over to DF and grab my new and more epic version of the theme (google EpicBlue Liberty, you have the discontinued one, grab the proper one for your X)
-make a backup
-install theme
oh, and take two, call me in the morning

What launcher are you using? Did you try ADW or Launcher Pro? did you also load livewallpapers.apk?
I loaded livewallpapers.apk and the livewallapaerspicker.apk
I tried with Sense and sweeterhome
But I think I need to load the .SO files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647837
But I have to find a different SD card because I can't get into recovery mode with my 8gb sd card.
(I left my 2gb at home)
ADW gave me the same problem.
I was able to adb remount since I pushed your clean update
But now I am getting "out of memory" when I try to push the SO files.
So I guess I will have to do the push in restore mode.

Let me know if you can figure out a way to get it running in Sense. I still haven't gotten my Aria (due to show up on Monday), but the lack of wallpapers is the one thing I was disappointed with.
Well I have live wallpapers working on my aria right now in alternate launchers like adw and launcher pro.
Pulled the files from a custom rom that adds live wallpapers for legend then rebuilt them into a rom I'm working on stripped of at&t crap. Did not replace the rosie apk since at this time tha just crashed htc.launcher.
This is a fun little phone.

Hey Bob, did you find a way to fix the non-market apps toggle in settings? I am working on a modified spare parts type deal to do that now, but if you already have a fix, I am all ears. Funny, AT&T didn't like the name Liberty. How fitting that they chose not to use it.
we really should open an IRC channel
The real question is there a way to do Live Wallpapers & Sense at the same time.
I know I am being picky, but I want my tech the way I want my tech.

I havent worked at all on the market toggle, i figure since we can sideload the settings.db file and it works its very low on my care list. All i worked on today was stripping out what i didnt like and trying to make a nice clean rom that had all the default files i wanted in it (google voice, pandora, etc..). Just happened to also play with the live wallpapers and found it worked on the way home when i tried a new launcher.

Yeah all the files are on my work machine so I will do that in a bit later. Will put it into a zip able to be recovered into an existing rooted aria so anyone can add them.

Update file for adding LWP to Aria
6/28/10 - Updated to allow LWP in the Sense UI
* This assumes you have your phone rooted and have access to the Clockwork Mod to allow updating your phone with unsigned zip files *
1.) Put the file onto your SD Card in the root directory
2.) Access the Clockwork Mod
4.) install zip from sdcard (option 5)
5.) choose zip from sdcard (option 2)
6.) Click on the file you downloaded and put on your sdcard
6a.) If you run into an error when installing shut off your phone,, unplug it from the USB cable, then reboot it back into Clockwork Mod and start again from step 2
7.) Once done installing, go back one menu and reboot system
8.) Upon reboot you can now choose Live Wallpaper in the wallpaper options
*Issues*
The only issue that I know of at this time is you have to use the settings/personalize/lock screen wallpaper option in order to change the lockscreen wallpaper
If you have any issues let me know, I tested this on a fresh clean stock rom flash then updated to add in the LWP.
*Files*
Clean install of the LWP packages
Select this if you want to install the LWP on a clean install or install without any LWP
Update install of the LWP packages
Select this if you used the previous version with LauncherPro and Home Switcher. This will remove those packages and update to the Sense Enabled LWP.
Thanks! I just flashed it and it works great. There's Absolutely no loss with performance with it either.

Ok lets see if this works =)
1.) Put the aria-lwp.zip file onto your SD Card in the root directory
2.) Access the Clockwork Mod using the rooting methods in the how to root your aria thread
3.) Go to the Partitions Menu and select the first option (mount /system)
4.) Go back to the main menu and choose to install a zip file
5.) Choose the option to install a zip from the SD Card
6.) Click on the aria-lwp.zip file
7.) Once done installing, go back one menu and reboot system.
8.) Upon reboot the home menu should pop up asking you to choose which home menu to launch. Choose the LauncherPro option.
9.) Go into the wallpaper options and choose your live wallpaper, it should work with no issues.
10.) Set up your new launcher, refer to any Launcher Pro threads for more info on this nice replacement launcher.
At anytime you can use the home switcher program to go back to the HTC Sense launcher if you want to use that instead. Same with setting up which launcher is used by default when you press the home button.
If you have any issues let me know, I tested this on a fresh clean stock rom flash then updated to add in the LWP.

Any chance we'll ever get this working in Sense?
Well, that didn't work.
I am still getting force quit
I might needs to do a clean flash.
Ok, I got stock to run, but I also want to get rid of the lockscreen and make it default as well. Any ideas?
Ok, reflashed with the clean install and it worked.

[Q] How to update themed apps? Please help

Just wondering how to update themed apps? I have a mixture of themes installed right now, as I originally installed the Invernito theme, and have now pulled out their framework and apps and started theming over the top of them (didn't remember that the files I pulled were from invernito til I started).
I tried using titanium to uninstall facebook, but then could not install from the market....
Can someone offer some advice? I would like to install the latest facebook update since it has chat built in, and reduces my need for another app like IM+
Thanks in advance!
Did you reboot after uninstalling because you need to.
I'm pretty sure I did. I will give this another try and be sure to reboot as I reverted to a nandroid backup when I couldnt get it working.

[Q] Fission 2.4.3: GPS broken when I apply theme on Droid 2

I LOVE Fission 2.4.3 on my Droid 2 (regular Droid 2, not R2D2 or global).
I was running third-eye theme that I downloaded from full Fission ROM Manager. The theme is superb! Great-looking.
But I noticed my GPS wasn't connecting. I discovered this while using Google Sky Map and could tell what was on the screen was different than the sky. GPS wasn't engaging so the app was generically using my town.
I searched and searched in google and forums and found one other person with this issue, but no answer.
So since my Fission was an upgrade from an earlier version, I bit the bullet and completely wiped the phone, data, cache, dalvic, factory reset, the works! Then I installed Fission and the GPS worked!!! Yeay. So I installed Third Eye via Fission Rom Manager, and the GPS broke again! Ugh! So I installed regular black Fission theme over it hoping it would fix it but it didn't.
Can anyone help? Why would a theme affect GPS? Any patch? I'd be happy to provide whatever log files or debug info is helpful.
Thank you! I love the D2 ROM community!
I thought the creator of the theme fixed that problem. For now you can install the upgrade ROM without wiping and then reapply the black theme and you should be good with gps.
I am looking into the issue with that theme now.
Sorry!
Are you sure you went into settings and enabled gps statelites?

Hi,
Did you check the setting?
Settings -> Location & Security -> Use GPS satellites (should be checked)
Yes, that is checked.
I'm going to try the suggestion to reapply Fission upgrade and black theme. I do really like the" Third Eye" but I like GPS better.
Okay, so I installed the Fission 4.2.3 Update (no wipe required) via the Rom Manager. When phone rebooted, I was back to default theme. I tested the GPS and it's still bad.
Is there a patch or a dll or something that can be applied?
I am technical (though not an Android Developer.) I work on Linux systems at work and am comfortable using debug tools if anyone wants me to generate a log or a core file or whatever might be helpful.
I wonder if there is a /var/admin/messages on Android. Maybe I'll poke around with the command shell.
I would ultimately love to have Fission, third eye, and the GPS.
Also, might one of the other addons I installed through Fission ROM Manager had broken the GPS? I think I installed the tether app and patch, some black-themed items, like swype, market, google search, weather, and I installed the moto multimedia pack and moto alarm.
Speaking of which, any plans to make R2D2 bootup available via Fission ROM Manager? Maybe I'm expecting too much.
Happy New Year everyone!
Try deleting the Maps.apk in your /system/apps folder then re downloading the app from the market.
GPS Broken with theme
Yeah, I am having the same issue, just stopped using it, and seemed to be fine. Guess I will just wait to see if it gets fit.
I'm sorry I didn't post the results. It's been a tad crazy around here and I haven't had much chance to post an update.
The following worked for me:
1) in root explorer, cd /data/app, mount r/w, rename com.google.android.apps.maps-1.apk to com.google.android.apps.maps-1.apk.bak
2) lauch maps just for a fun FC
3) uninstall maps from settings:applications:manage applications
4) reinstall maps via market
Now I have the latest Fission and the latest third eye theme - I LOVE that theme!
I wish I could get paste from clipboard back though. Oh, and Gingerbread of course!
I'll quit while I'm ahead. The D2 development community is amazing. Kudos to you guys!!!!
Gratefully,
Mark

[Q] Please help.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to ROMs / Apps / Themes, basically smart phones in general. Just got a Droid X for Christmas.
Thinking of using a ROM like Gummyjar2.5 or Rubix(don't know best version) because they seem to be very popular here. Anyone have any links for tutorials on installing either / both? And opinions to which would be better for a total noob? I want my phone to run faster / use less battery but still look pretty flashy.
As for themes, does anyone know where I can go to check out themes for the said two ROMs?
Thanks in advance for the help.
Roms are a mattet of how each person likes the feel of it for themselves. Right now, gummyjar 2.5, rubix 1.9.5, and liberty 1.0 are the usual choices. If you still want blur elements like you have it right now, then I suggest zapX bazinga, or apex.
All the roms run very well, but like I said, try out each. You will want to root the phone using z4root (google for it vers 1.3.0)
Then you will want to download droidx bootstrap. This will allow you to backup/restore your phone. It is also used to install the *.zip themes and ROMs.
As for themes, I recommend any of Bignadad's themes. He is the most thorough as far as complete images for framework and apps as well! Make sure that the theme you pick is compatible for any ROM you choose to use.
When I get back to a computer instead of my phone I can try and help out more =)
Ps... Look at the thread for each ROM/theme to see what you like and they will almost always include install instructions!
Hope this helps! Post back if you have more questions, I'm more than happy to help!

Ok, to start with.. No worries, we all had a point where we knew nothing about this stuff!
Blur is an "interface add-on" that motorola has added to their phones. If you were to look at the Nexus One or Nexus S, these two phones both have a stock version of android without Motorola Blur or HTC Sense on them. Sense and Blur are modifications of system applications and the user interface... Some people really like these interfaces, but most people are against it in the Android forums because they are mostly wanting performance (which is usually degraded by Sense or Blur).
Most of the ROM's now strip out the blur components (yay for our devs!) and that is what GummyJar, Liberty, and Rubix do. If you want a ROM with blur components, I would suggest using Apex or ZapX Bazinga.
2. That z4root and backup thing you said to download. Do I do that with my phone and just launch them? Or?
I have attached the z4root and droid X bootstrap .apks. What you need to do is copy these to your phone's sdcard. Then go to Settings-->Applications--> Check the Unknown sources check box. While you're at it press on the development section as well. Then check the USB debugging box.
You can then install these using a File manager such as Astro (free on the market) by opening Astro File Manager, and then browsing to the .apk file on your sdcard.
To root your phone after installing z4root, launch the app from your applications list, and then click permanent root. It will take a while (potentially) and then your phone will reboot and be rooted.
After that, then go to Astro and browse for the bootstrap apk and install that. This is what allows you to backup/restore. After that app installs, you will be prompted for superuser rights, hit yes.
Then open Droid X bootstrapper. You will want to click the top option, as that hijacks the boot process. Then reboot recovery will allow you to go to the backup/restore mode.
Check out this link: droid X wiki. I have to go take care of some stuff, but will add another post with some stuff.
3. Where do I find the threads for the specific ROMs / Themes?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=687
Use this link. This is the general Droid X thread page. The general section is just mostly questions and "general" stuff for the Droid X. The themes sections has themes.. lol and the android development has the ROMs.
Just read through the different threads and post back if you have questions.
So what does rooting my phone do? I get what backup / restore is, but not that.
This z4 is taking forever. -_-
So I went to sleep while z4 did its magic and it wasn't running when I woke up. How would I know it x completed?

EDIT: Also, when I installed bootstrap, it didn't ask me the question you said it would. Now it's showing an error when I want to do "Bootstrap Recovery". Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that didn't work.

Reboot your phone, re-run the Z4root program (phone will reboot) and after you should have a GREY Super User icon in your app drawer.
Hope this helps.
That worked, man. Thanks! So I have Bootstrap, z4 and ROM manager all ready. Now I just need to get a ROM and find one that has a slick THEME.
How do you like Liberty, Sys? I saw it was just something you put over the top of Gummyjar, which was probably the one I was going to go with if Bignadad (by the way, I don't know where to find his themes. =/) had a cool theme for it. Have you tried Rubix?
EDIT: I love Swype. Are these ROMs going to take it away from me? =P
I think many will agree that Liberty 1.0 seems to be the sweetest right about now..... try it out.
Got Liberty up successfully, but don't know how to retrieve my contacts.
hey i have one question, when z4 is done and you run bootstrap, the phone is empty of apps and contacts...and you have to do a backup from somewhere correct?

So you already have loaded liberty? Just trying to make sure I have my details straight. If you followed the install instructions and wiped data and cache then yes you will need to restore apps from titanium backup or whatever means you may have backed up your apps.
If you load a ROM such as liberty, then you will not want to use bootstrap to restore. Bootstrap completely backs up your entire phone state, not just your apps. Sorry if I misinterpretted any part of your message

So I've loaded Liberty, but can't "Link" facebook contacts to their phone numbers. Is there some option I need to enable to do this? Or should I go back to vanilla? That's a convenience I don't really intend to do without.

Is facebook installed on your phone? If not install it from the market and the initial setup should ask you if you want to set up facebook sync.
If facebook is installed to go phone settings->accounts and sync. Your facebook account should show up there and you can setup sync options.

Yeah, I have no problem with having my Facebook contacts in my contacts list, but I used to be able to link them with their phone contact. Meaning if I had a person's phone number, I could link it with their Facebook profile so their phone number would display their facebook default pic and latest status. Now, when I try to edit facebook contacts and add a number to them, it says I can't do that with this device.

If I want to go back to vanilla to re-do it, back it up, and then come back to liberty, do I have to download the vanilla zip? Or is there any way to just revert?

Sorry, slightly confused by your post... But I think I may have what you mean.
If you want to go back to vanilla (original phone condition) then you will need to sbf if you didn't take a backup before installing Liberty. If you did take backup using Boostrap, then I would recommend just restoring your backup.
If you didn't create a backup before... create a backup now with liberty installed in case you need a place to come back to for reference. Nandroid backups are your friend...
I'm not quite sure what you mean by vanilla, so I may be way off here. Feel free to add in some more details please =)
Yeah I mean I want to go to the completely original phone setup. I did do a bootstrap save or whatever, but bootstrap isn't installed. If I reinstall does it still have my vanilla Droid saved?
Also, how would I go about switching back to it? Navigating those menus makes me nervous.... Haha.
I'd go into Bootstrapper -- > Reboot Recovery... then what?

Okay... So if you have taken a backup before you did your install of Liberty (or any other ROM/Theme) then yes, it should still be saved on your SDcard actually. Bootstrapper creates a folder on your sdcard called "clockworkmod". Inside of that folder, there should be two more folders: backup and download. Inside of the backup folder, you should see a folder titled in a similar manner:
2010-09-10.04.03.48 (yyyy-mm-dd-hh.mm.IDK what the rest is.. LOL)
But regardless, this is what you should see. If you re-install the bootstrap program, then when you go reboot recover--> backup and restore--> restore, you should see this folder/option. You will use the volume up and down buttons to move the cursor up and down. Pressing the camera button (red) will select the highlighted option. You can use the back arrow key or power button to go up a level in the menus.
If this doesn't work, you can always SBF the phone (this takes the phone back to the complete original condition out of the box). It is slightly scary to do the first time (at least for me it was...), but I have probably done it at least 10 times now.
Let me know if the bootstrap backup works. Take note that you will lose any apps/texts on your phone that you now have unless you use an app like titanium backup to backup your apps, and an SMS backup app to save your text messages. The bootstrap backup takes you back to the exact condition the phone was in when you took the backup.
Lemme know if this works out for you! Good luck!

[Q] My apps are not showing in the market. Any suggestions?

I recently flashed Liberty 2.0, and restored my device using TB Pro. My apps were reinstalled, but they do not show in the market under "My apps." So I don't know what's been updated, etc. I've cleared the cache and data for the Market application, tried the Market Doctor included with TB Pro, I've even wiped cache partition in Recovery. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions? Is it time to wipe it all and start over? Thanks in advance!
Is Liberty 2 what you're truly using...
The one on froyo kernel?
If not...you're on LIBERTY 3 v2.0
Either way.
Seems like a build.prop issue.
This may be a documented problem in the rom...but I kinda' doubt it.
Jrummy/Kejar are pretty reputable hack-er-up rom builders.
Try flashing the rom on top of itself.
Or if you really don't want to do that...
Using root explorer or equivalent to manually move a fresh build.prop into place (with the correct permissions.)
Thanks for the reply! It is on the GB Kernel, Liberty 3 version 2.0. I pulled the 2.0 out of the Liberty Settings/ Mod version. I tried pulling the build.prop from the .zip for the ROM to replace build.prop on the device. No luck.
The other interesting thing that I meant to include earlier is that it only happens on my main google account. I have 3 on the phone, and of course the only one that's not showing apps is the main one I use. Here's a screenshot of what I get.
I'm not excited about reflashing, so any other ideas are greatly appreciated. I know I might have to bite the bullet on this one though. Thanks again!
I also meant to suggest you check that you were logged in with the correct account.
That's a pain in the ass...I hope you resolve it.
Are you sure your main account was the one linked with your purchases?
