[Q] Restoring to a previous firmware - Surround General

I have a Telus HTC Surround with the NoDo update. I had the chevron unlock, but I i unfortunately factory reset the phone, which removed the unlock. I am wondering if there is any way to downgrade my firmware back to pre-Nodo. Any help would be appreciated. I saw some ROMS to flash but I couldn't figure out which was the right one for my phone. Thanks, Sharushan

I put the phone in USB mode to do this you need to power off the phone without the USB plugged in ,....Now hold the Volume button down and keep holding it down and hit the power button, phone will boot up in 3 color Screen Red Blue Green and white at the bottom and will say Serial, now plug in your USB cable to the phone and into the computer and let it instal the qualcomm cdma driver...It will then install and your phone will switch from saying "Serial" at the bottom to saying "USB" now download this RUU_Surround_Cingular_US_1.03.502.07_Radio_5.51.09 .06_22.30.50.09U_by_ansar located here:https://rs80l33.rapidshare.com/#!download|80l3|456962609|RUU_Surround_Cingular_US_1.03.502.07_Radio_5.51.09.06_22.30.50.09U_by_ansar.zip|207904 Then Extract it and Select Rom Update Utility...Run that and it will go up to 8% hang for about 20 seconds then it will continue first 8% is formatting and verifying the ROM and Vendor ID, then it will continue, I did this and successfully downgraded the Nodo 7.7380 Update to the Factory 7.7004 and my phone shipped with 7.7380. good luck and be carefull I dont know how safe this is Im not a moderator so maybe you should check with a system mod or ansar himself before following my steps.
If you are on Telus then you will need the Telus ROM from ANSAR's Post in the WP7 Development Section but same exact way just use that ROM instead of the Cingular one I posted.

Red Led of Death

Hi,
After upgrading to new ROM I performed hard reset on my vx6900. At the last screen during hard reset pocedure I press Send button as requested and it was a last time I ever saw something on my screen. Device is not waking up anymore when I plug power it always the red led is switching on (with or withoout batery). I took a 100% charged batery from another device, but it's not helping. I'm out of options I think I tried evrething: Hard reset combination, bootloader combination, keep it on charge for hours, then without battery for hours - no luck.
Could anybody help me?

Had you been switching to Android (NAND Flash)?
No, I performed hard reset after succefully loading NFSFAN's WM6.5 1.00 FINAL ROM.
Before NFSFAN's WM6.5 1.00 I loaded Vogue_unlocker_MFG-2.31 (initial attempt to load NFSFAN's WM6.5 without unlocker didn't work).
Is there any way to revive it after Red Led?
If you cannot put your device in bootloader, then you are toast
How are you trying to put the device in bootloader?
I guess it dead then Not waking up into boot mode after Pwr-snd-reset.
Also I tried any combination of buttons with reset. It is not waking up. And it is strange to me because I was just performing hard reset and following the screen prompt. Now I don't see any activities except this stupid red led. I though there is some sort of reincarnation procedure some "hard hard" reset?
To enter the Boot Loader mode....
Press and hold the following buttons:
Power (on top left of device) + Camera (on right of device, near the bottom) + Reset (small hole on bottom right of device, just right of the USB port. You can press this with the tip of your device's stylus).
It can be tricky to press all 3 of thes buttons at the same time, and you will probably need to use both hands.
You should see an odd rainbow on screen, indicating that you are in the Boot Loader mode. The device does not need to be connected to a computer of charger in order to enter Boot Loader mode.
If this does not work you may actually have the 1st bricked vogue I've ever seen...
(It didn't get wet, did it...?)

That is exactly why I was asking. What you are doing with power +vol keys is for the TP and not for the Vogue.
I used boot loader sequence already (pwr + camera + reset) between all other sequences it doesn't help, device is no show any vital signs the only thing that works is a red led.
I also noticed that when I power it up without batery and then insert the battery the red led is going away. Then Red led is blinking every time I press the reset.
It sounds that you may have fried your NAND...
Just to be sure, you didn't bump it, throw it, or sent it for a swim... have you?
Have you tried this?

May not work, but it is worth a shot.
Guys, when you get a red LED, it means your battery is fried. It's near summer so are you sure you didn't charge it in the car or something? Replace your battery and you'll be fine.

The OP already stated that he tried a 100% charged battery from another Vogue and nothing.
No, I didn't do anything brutal to that device, as i said it was absolutely responsive when I started the hard reset sequence and it had not history of stuck buttons, anyways I'm going to doublecheck all buttons to make sure nothing stuck and preventing it from boot (looks like it my last hope )
If that doesn't work. open it up and clean the dust and debris out of there with a can of spray air. There might be a spec of dust that is causing a short circuit. That actually happened to me during the 80386 days when I was putting together a computer and it wouldn't get past the post screen. Turned out, there was a spec of dust lying across 2 pins on the CPU.
I keep my phone in my pocket and every now and again I take the back cover off and there is a ton of dust in there.
Good luck.
So? Any news? Could you revive it?
Use this it will be fine as i have used it once!!!
Edited *This will help those that are stuck at the HTC welcome screen and cannot get past it to load IMCokeMan's Unlocker.**
Edit by ImCoKeMaN: If you are stuck in bootloader (3 color screen) use titanexitbl or mtty (set 16 0 then task first and try these steps only if that doesn't work.
Apparently you can not use SDHC cards with this method, please use the 512mb card that came with your phone.
I have successfully unbricked my phone due to updating the Alltel rom to a non Alltel Vogue, before IMCokeman had released his unlocker an also have downgraded to the previous SPL version. I will shortly update this post with the How to instructions. I just need to retrace my steps.
I would first like to thank IMCokeMan for his help and unlocker.
I currently have a Sprint Vogue but I assume this will work for all versions
For those that had loaded the Alltel rom without the unlocker and have bricked there phone try this procedure to unbrick your phone.
1. First download IMCokeMaN's 2.31 Unlocker. http://rapidshare.com/files/11019074...r_MFG_2.31.exe
2. Extract IMCokeMan's unlocker
Previous SPL version was 2.31 current SPL version is 0.36
Edit by ImCoKeMaN:
Note: Steps 3, 4 and 5 should not be necessary, but step 6 is critical that it is a signed rom from your carrier
3. Navigate to the extracted folder and within the folder you will find the following file called VOGUIMAG2.nbh and rename it to VOGUIMG.nbh
4. Copy the file to a fat32 memory card, and insert it back into your phone, and place it into bootloader mode.
5. The phone should display Loading... let it sit there for a minute or so. It will not go past this screen, now reboot the phone.
6. Extract your official rom (Must be a signed EXE from your carrier, check here)
7. Navigate to the extracted folder and within the folder you will find the following file called ruu_signed.nbh and rename it to VOGUIMG.nbh
8. Copy the file to your memory card (less than 2gb and formated fat32) and insert it back into the phone and place it back into bootloader mode, and install the your Carrier's Official ROM.

The OP is not stuck in bootloader. His device simply doesn't turn on.
Unfortunatelly nothing helps. I opened it up, even unscrewed completely and sprayed with dust remover. It's the same.
What I noticed is when I plug device to power without battery the red led goes on (it's normal behavior for all devices). Then I insert the battery while device is still plugged in (in my case to Laptop's USB). The red led goes away (also normal behavior for devices). Then I can hear USB connect sound from laptop and in few seccond message: "USB device not recognized".
Click on reset button causes device's Red Led to blink and I can hear USB re-connect sound from Laptop again. Any other buttons or combination of buttons on device don't do any diffrence.
You are only trying to charge via USB? You should have said this earlier. Get a charger (output of 1 A). I had the same thing happen to a Wizard once and I used a high output charger and it worked again (battery was brand new too).
USB cable was one of my desperate try-outs, before I was keeping it on stock HTC (1A) charger for days, with empty and full battery in and no luck

[Q] Hero bricked after official upgrade

Okay, so I think this topic has been talked about a few times already. But I didn't manage to find a proper solution, maybe my situation is not as desperate as the others I read about.
A friend of mine gave me his Hero for me to repair. It just would not boot up after last official HTC update. Just gets stuck at the first "Hero" screen. Should I precise, he did not do anything to his phone (no rooting, no alternate bootloader, no nothing).
Official RUUs can't manage to detect the phone via USB (whatever the boot mode is), it can't boot, so I can't turn USB debugging on, or install flashrec to set up a custom ROM.
Power + Menu takes me to a waiting screen with a phone and an exclamation mark.
Power + Back takes me to fastboot, from which I can get into HBoot mode.
From these, flashing a new recovery via fastboot doesn't work (remote: not allow), which is to be expected.
Is there any other solution except sending the phone back to manufacturer. We'll do that in the end if no other solution happens to work, but I'd prefer to fix it myself.
Thanks for your help.
Tell me if you need any other details.
A.

[Q] Help ... ROM updated failed...noting is displaying

Hello All,
Today, I got t-mobile locked leo (UK). It was continuously stucking and restarting. I thought, I can upgrade it to fix any firmware problems. However, it got stuck at 10% twice and filed.
Now, nothing showing up except big vibration sound.
Can some one guide me to fix this problem....
Yes put the HD2 into bootloader and flash the ROM. To put it into bootloader hold the volume down button down while powering on the HD2. Then connect the USB cable to the HD2 and computer and wait until you see the Serial change to USB in the white bar of bootloader and then run the RUU.
If you still can not get it to flash via USB then try flashing it via SD card.
Thank you for quick reply. However, even I am unable to go into bootloader.
As soon as I place battery, it just continesoly gives just vibration sound nothing happens. Even I tried Vol+up and vol + down and poweron, but doesn't help as nothing coming up on the screen.
I was updating official ROM : RUU_Leo_S_TMO_UK_3.14.110.1_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe

Sorry if you can not get the HD2 to the bootloader then I hate to tell you but you have a bricked HD2. The only way to fix it is to use or get someone to use a JTAG and a RiffBox on your HD2 which requires the total removal of the main board from the HD2 and then putting it back in after you have fixed it using the JTAG and RiffBox.

[Q] Restore Pre-Mango without a pre-mango backup... help!!!

I somehow lost the backup of my premangostate after updating to mango. I'm having issues with my device overheating and I need to mail it in to AT&T. But doesn't the Mango beta technically void your warranty? If it does, I need to revert to premango in order to send it in... what should I do? I've tried everything. I downloaded a ROM but I don't know how to use it! HELP!!

Do you think you could post a step by step of what to do? I tried going through the forum you suggested but had no luck following the steps. I'm a US AT&T customer.

There isn't one for Focus but if you follow the step by step guide for Omnia 7 with the Focus Rom, you should be okay as it's exactly the same. Just use the Focus UCJK2 Rom instead of the Omnia7 one.
Here's the short version:
You will not need the "Samsung WP7 Flash Program" as it is included in the ROM (Samsung-i917-Focus-firmware-UCJK2-ATT-USA.exe).
Install Samsung Mobile USB Drivers v5.2
Put the phone in download mode. Make sure battery is at least 80% when you do.
Turn off the phone
Turn on the phone, holding down the Power + Volume UP + Camera buttons simultaneously.
When the phone turns on, release the power button.
A yellow triangle with an exclamation mark and a "download mode” message should appear.
(there are 2 ways to get out of this mode: flash a rom or remove the battery).
1. Copy "Samsung-i917-Focus-firmware-UCJK2-ATT-USA.exe" in a new folder and run it (Install). After running you will see these files:
signed_CSC_Cetus_ATT_i917ATTJK2.csc
signed_eboot_Cetus_ATT.eb0
signed_pda_Cetus_ATT.nb0
signed_phone_Cetus_ATT.bin
WP7 Downloader Ver 7.21 for All Device (Publish version).exe
WP7_Downloader_Ver_7.05_for_Retail_Device_(Product_Force_Select_MD5_X).exe
The fhash program you need to run is
WP7_Downloader_Ver_7.05_for_Retail_Device_(Product_Force_Select_MD5_X).exe
2. Run it and load in it the files in this folder (click Phone, Eboot, PDA, CSC)
3. If the port isn't green, disconnect the phone from USB and reconnect.
You should be good to go with all this.

[Q]Restoring backup after flashing rom
Hi,
I have a At&t samsung focus running 8107 and phone's power button started acting weird. If i press it nothing happen at first, then the slide down to power off appear. I would press back but it would shut off anyways. It wouldn't reboot right and usually took about 20 tries to boot it. I have two backups saved one mango beta and one for current version. The problem got worse (wouldn't boot at all unless on usb power) so i restored it to my current version backup. Everything worked but after a week the problem came back and the phone was dead. I decided to flash it to factory rom (had problems getting it to boot to rebuild) but I eventually got it to boot. The power button still did nothing. I updated it back to 8107 and tried to restore to my backup. I keep getting error code 801812E0. My question is do you have to use the same update path to restore a backup? I had the mango beta, refresh, then cleanup to get to 7720 Mango build. The second time around I used official update path. Do you think this is hardware related?
Thanks in advance
From your description, it sounds like your power button is getting stuck in the pressed position. "Always Pressed". Occasionally, when messing with it, it will release. Also, when plugged in, that forces it to start up.
Try cleaning around the button, or remove any cases/screen protectors that might be sticking it down. If that does not work, you might need to take apart to clean or replace the button. Only attempt if you are comfortable with that type of job, otherwise, send in for repair.
Thanks for the quick response. I will try that.
Also would the power button being stuck affect the hard reset menu and download mode? I can still access download mode but the hard reset menu disappears after about 10 seconds. The only way I can reboot the phone is to plug into USB power via computer and touch the metal springs where the battery connects with a tweezers.

Yes. If you hold the power button in Any mode, it forces a shutdown after a few seconds.
Took the phone apart and cleaned around the button. Still won't boot, is it possible the phone's drivers to communicate with the power button are bad? And any idea why my backups failed to restore after flashing the rom?

I think this has gotten off topic from the original thread. I'll send you a private message, and we can continue there. I've been around a while, so I might get into trouble keeping it going here, since I should know better.
Does anyone have a working link to download the Samsung Focus USB drivers?
All the multiupload links are down and i am stuck with a bricked phone.
Mirror or alternate link appreciated..
Thanks

Restore original firmware in safe-mode

Hi all,
My Magic has the trackball broken, and because of this, when I try to boot the Magic, the notification Led turns blue and the phone does not boot.
Somethimes, if I stir the trackball the phone boots, but in the left bottom corner appears a message saying "safe-mode".
As my Magic has a custom rom, and I think because of the safe-mode I can not see the phone via usb cable. Plugging in the usb cable only charges the phone, nothing else happens.
Until now, I also was not able to enter into bootloader (I do not know if is a safe-mode limitation or not.)
Do you know about that safe-mode? or how can I restore the original firmware?
because I want to send my phone to warranty with the original rom.
Thank you!
some photos ?
can you make some pictures of your screen or a small video to see what is happening? Or try to use the right RUU from development page.
