Gingerbread 2.3.3 JVB/JVK call delay problem - Galaxy S I9000 General

Since upgrading to Gingerbread 2.3.3 I have noticed that there is a call delay on every incoming and outgoing call where you can´t hear the other person and the other person can´t hear you. This problem occurs for about 2 - 3 seconds.
I have seen this problem in different threads around XDA. There problem is also reported for Nexus One devices as you can see here:
http://www.google.com/support/forum...b1&hl=en&fid=110c873c8cdee0b10004a13fb277fc99
And here:
http://pocketnow.com/android/google-nexus-one-having-call-problem-on-gingerbread
I had this problem when i tried Darkys 10 RC 3 and the problem disapeared when I flashed back to Froyo but came back after Kies update to 2.3.3
If you have this problem, which GB release do you have and which country and network provider do you have?
GB Release: 2.3.3 JVB
Provides: Swedish Telia
Thank you!

i guess the issue is with Gingerbread in general...there is a thread going on in phandroid.com
http://phandroid.com/2011/04/18/i-got-99-problems-and-gingerbread-is-one/

I can confirm it with JVK. I hoped it is corrected in JVB.

I don't have this problem with JVB! Everthing works fine!

i also think it is fixed in JVB, did some calls yesterday and all was fine. JVK had delay.
if it`s really fixed, then samsung is the first. no other 2.3.3 rom has a fix for this, not even aosp.

Yes, it seems to bo related to Gingerbread and not just Galaxy S specific. But in my point of view, Samsung is the one that has the responsibility to fix this bug.
I suggest that everyone who has this problem report it to Samsung Support.

Ok, interesting. I noticed it yesterday on JVB but maybe I have to give JVB a try.

But it seems strange if it was fixed in JVB and then they release JVK for UK?

If you concern that memory management problem in JVK it's much more strange to release that.

The problem persists with JVB, not that obvious as in JVK though.

I've tried calling myself and speaking straight away and I could hear myself without a problem.
I'm on JVB by the way.
Edit : spoke too fast. There is an issue for me as well.

This is a known bug with Gingerbread, that Google recently declined, saying it was "device specific" (to the Nexus One).
However this problem is also being reportedly widely on the HTC Desire, as well as Samsung Galaxy devices.
I have posted a new issue, which is not attributed to a specific device.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=16230
Please comment and star this issue. And please specificy especially if your device is not the Nexus One, so that Google gets this message that this is a widespread Gingerbread bug, which has nothing to do with the device.
Thanks.

I can confirm this bug as well, on jvk.
Sent from my GT-I9000

Same with JVK.

No problems with JVK- not tried JVB yet-too busy to flash!(First time ever!)

This is a well known bug within every API-Lvl10 which was shown until now.
It wasn't fixed yet, neither in the early JVK nor in JVA/JVB.
But wasn't exactly this issue one of the reasons for the first GB delay?
But I'm very curious getting to know why this issue shouldn't affect the
VOD Versions as well^^ Probably only some "marketing related thing" there

The Google employee following up on the call delay issue, in the Google support forums, is asking people to fill out the following form, to gather information about how people are affected and on what devices.
http://goo.gl/10HJ1

definitely encountered this bug
i thought it was just bad signal or something

I didnt had it on JVK, 2 days on JVB and calling was impossible -.-

No call bug here.
Does anyone know if JVA have daily briefing? I'm looking for the latest gingerbread version
BTW, gingerbread battery life has been phenomenal for me so far. my first charge has lasted 1.5 days and I still have 50% left!!! (fairly light usage, but a bit of web-browsing, app installs etc).

ANyway, I think we'll need to wait till samfirmware gets hold of the ROM.
I updated my Wife's phone to 2.2 via kies.
It wasn't so good as I thought it might be.
She wasn't able to receive calls. Screen went black and error message came. Factory reset helped.
Second bug was that after factory reset calls came through, but She or neither the caller couldn't hear a thing. I switched speaker on on my wife's phone, and everything was ok.. turning back to phone, everything is muted..
I flashed 2.1 back. And 2.2 is never coming back to this house.
not so bad .i think it's just got something wrong during you flashing .i flash JPF many times and different version like kyrillos's one or Lestatious' .those all runs fine on my phone.

Kies flashed, not me. Never had those issues on 2.1.
After short tests I noticed 2 bugs that egzists in JP9.
- 1min lag after turning off gps
- system shows wrong size of installed apps
I think I'll stay with this rom and test it more. If by some miracle those bugs are fixed I'll change for official release. But I seriously doubt it...

I must admit that I'm a little disappointed with xxjpl. In fact I cannot tell one thing that is better than my prevoius eclair version.
1) Lag in menus after turning off gps is sometomes very annoying and lasts for a few minutes
2) I haven't managed to get gps fix till now. I used gps opt but I have to admit that so far I tried only to get fix putting my hand out of my window Tommorow I will try outside
3) Today I noticed that when my mom called me phone rejected phone call after a few seconds. It never happend since then but still I'm a little bit worried. (I did factory reset)
4) I haven't noticed that this rom (menus) are faster than in 2.1, still sometimes there is a little lag
I'm thinking about trying those custom roms like Kyrillos. Could you tell me your experience with jpf? Is there a problem with showing wrong size of installed apps? What about GPS fix? Any other custom roms have those problems?

Some guys just open GPS test and are happy if the fix is fast and accuracy is 10m...
Sometime they can be 100m away, but because the GPS reports 10m accuracy they think everything is fine !
It does pin point over my head and i know my head isn't. 98m away from my neck.
I tried updating from JPY on XEU product code but Kies tells me I've already got the latest so no XEU update as yet as far as I can see

Wonk Fix Donations

I thought I would post a thread listing the Paypal address for those who would like to donate to the developer who helped bring about a fix for the dreaded wonk.
I think this guy deserves a couple bucks thrown his way by most of us who use and enjoy ASOP based firmwares.
The last couple of cyanogenmod nightlies have had ZERO wonk.
Lets keep in mind that this issue was starred with Google a couple of times and we couldnt get Google to even recognize that a problem exists!
The problem was so bad that cyanogen was releasing roms marked as stable that still had the wonk because it was an ASOP bug...
Anyway, send this dude a couple of bucks if you can. All of us running a N1 with ASOP based firmwares are benefiting from the wonk fix.
His paypal address is: [email protected]
Thanks!
-Dweebs
Ok, I just sent the guy $10 USD. Its not much but every little bit helps.
Umm what?
Google acknowledged the issue and even fixed it, which is probably why it is working in CM roms now.

Dunno if the email is the right guy, but it was fixed independently of asop.
Two different forms of wonk ..
One is the call delay bug
The other is the black screen bug
I "think" he found the issue for the call delay
Not sure about status of black screen bug
Google said the delay bug was not across all devices and only specific to Nexus so they closed the report. Last time i heard about it
Again i might have my bugs mixed up but ehhh
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080147
This is the thread where you can see the results of the guys work. All I know for sure is that for several iterations of Cyanogenmod there was a "call delay". People would call me and not be able to hear me for several seconds. Very annoying bug. I resorted to using a CM Froyo build for a while and then a rooted OTA build of Gingerbread. It was acknowledged as an ASOP bug but wasnt present in the OTA builds of Gingerbread. This guy took the time and tracked the issue down and repaired it with a simple patch.
@Devastatin: The email is the right developer if you follow the above link you can see the name of the guy who I contacted via PM.
@GldRush98: You may have never seen this bug because I remember you commenting in a thread where you stated you only used OTA builds and not "janky custom builds like Cyanogenmod" which I am sure ruffled a few feathers.
But regardless it was a very real problem and there were a couple of threads in which people were asked to "star the issue" on Google forums. The first starred thread was closed, Google said it was hardware specific on the N1 and didnt address it. I dont know what happened with the second thread.
If you guys dont want to donate to the guy, nobody is forcing you. I just felt like the guy deserved some props for fixing an issue that noone else was addressing.
-D
I'm not actively soliciting donations, but if anyone wants to donate to me, I appreciate it. I just thought I'd post here to confirm my identity.
My changes to cyanogenmod are listed here:
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#dashboard,1030
The a1026 suspend commit deals with the wonk, the call delay commit is obvious. If you click any of the commits, you'll see my email address there, as well.

The other fixes were for a CM related issue due to merging of 2.3.3 with 2.3.4 which broke receiving MMS from certain other phones. All bugs were a major source of complaints on both the xda nightly thread (along with Fitsnugly's Gigglebread build) and the CM nightly thread with who knows how many countless other threads in both forums.
And AFAIK, google has not fixed the call-delay bug (the wonk didn't exist on the stock ROM) from everything I have read. It still existed on various 2.3.4 builds that I tested.
jyxent fixed some of the major bugs that were plauging N1 users (and who knows how much sleep cyanogen lost due to the wonk). If I can come up with some money on this next paycheck, he will be getting some... Until then, I will just sing his praises
Gonna give this thread a final bump in the hope that the N1 users out there will show this guy some love.
I realize fixing broken code and releasing it to the community is in the spirit of open source software but every once in a while I like to give credit where credit is due. My N1 is perfect (again)!!
I'm on CM7.0.3 and am still having to use dewonkificator because of phone delays. Is this for real or is someone trying to get some free $$?

It's for real, and also seems to have side effect of greatly increasing battery life as well. Bit the fix is only in the nightlies which is why you don't have it.
You could apply the fix to the stable firmware. The dewonkificator was just a band-aid as this actually corrects the bug.
And the guys not trying to make any money off the code, it's freely available. I just think he deserves a few bucks for fixing a huge problem with our phones.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I believe that this was truly fixed for most devices and the developer who solved it deserves the credit for it, but I'm sorry to say that I'm also still experiencing that call delay occasionally on my N1 running CM 7.0.3...
Edit: just after posting I saw the comment that this is only available on the nightly builds... thought this was already included in 7.0.3. Anyone has a clue on when it will be included on the stable versions ?
I would think it would be included in 7.1 (or the next stable release (candidate) but I'm most likely wrong.
Oh, and the call delay exists in stock OTA builds. My husband has an N1 that is completely stock and not rooted, He has the call delay bug.
I didn't write that. Prove it!!!
this patch can be applied to another ROM like stock GB 2.3.4?
I'll wait for the next stable CM
If the next stable CM has fixed the call delay, wonk, and has better battery life you can be sure I'll be sending out some donations! I flamed on the google thread about this issue; it was clearly an AOSP bug because I experienced it on CM *and* vanilla AOSP. I'm looking forward to the upgrade back to gingerbread but until CM drops another stable I'll be rocking Froyo
This problem is completely fixed in the latest nightly builds. You can apply the fix to the 7.03 build by pushing over the fixed libaudio.so file. Step by step directions are available here if you are uncomfortable using adb, search the forum. I attached the corrected file to this post. The fix was made by jyxent and he deserves the credit for fixing this problem.
Just so everyone is clear...the call delay bug is not just AOSP. I had it right from the get go in OTA 2.3.3 and it continued to 2.3.4. I am now using an AOSP build and don't have it . I may have the MMS bug though as I can't receive certain MMS pics from certain phones/carriers. Have not narrowed down the exact issue yet.

Experiencing missing calls

I had this problem since SC roms but now I have Evil froyo rom and having alot more missing calls. My friend told me that he called me three times but didnt get any....i really dont care about the multimedia but phone calls!!!! phone should functioned as it should be but its not...so anybody knows how to solve this problem...?? I tried to do *228 thingy but still doing this...
What radio/modem are you using? Try using ED04, if you're not already on it. I had your problem before and ED04 seemed to help.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Go back to eclair with ea28 radio. There is no froyo rom/radio free of this issue currently available. I have tested all radios available right now and had missed calls on all of them. ED04 made it even worse actually.
I've tried numerous radios, roms, and kernels and am currently on stock ED04 with the same issues. I think ED04 is actually worse on my phone as well. I've read about quite a few people having the same problem and the overall consensus is that it's a hardware issue.
For ****s and giggles, Odin the EC09 radio. I personally use it and find it to be pretty nice, much faster data speeds, and it MAY fix your issue.
It's not a FroYo deal, it's a network issue. My wife's Fascinate is still on DL09 and she has missed calls too. A lot of people believe it is an issue with LTE affecting 3G, since the problems started popping up around the same time LTE was flipped on
Call and complain... They know it's a known issue, but they are not fixing fast enough. It's pretty sad. I miss calls from the wife and boss... You may even get the droid charge...

Yeah I did call and they offered me another Fascinate, Droid X or D1 so nothing that I could accept. The only upgrade that makes sense available right now would be Charge but had no luck convincing them. Right now I'm testing EC09 leak modem and so far all calls came through (as far as I know) but it was just 2 days so it's too soon to know if it helps or not.
They won't offer me jack... Am I saying something wrong? Hahaha
This freakin issues is pissing me off since i got this VZN fascinate imported here in India ,
and its not NETWORK its just bloody FROYO and FASCINATE , somehow all froyo ROMS have got this crap issue.
i have started inumerable threads about so many ROMs and setups but this issue always keeps coming back.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that the GB roms wont have this bug..
Just to keep myself connected i have yesterday flashed back to dl09 debloated and using ed04 ( i know its full of crap this modem is , but i am giving it a shot with dl09 and so far in last 24 hours havent missed a single call.
I'm on hold with VZ tech support right now, I can't stand this bug anymore.. I'm trying to find a new job so I can't afford to be missing calls
edit: they're sending me a new fascinate.. might just have to buy another phone and use my fascinate as an mp3 player
Trying out the EC09 (gingerbread) radio.. I may not know anything for a few days.
I have been having this problem every since I started using froyo
if I switch back to eclair it is gone
It is not in the radio
It has to do with the phone going in a deep sleep it will not wake up
The deep sleep is causing other issues with sms, mms, alarm not working when set all because it will not wake up
Alot of problems Same cause
The only way I have found to stop this is go to Eclair

if anyone wants to install debloated rooted version of dl09 then simply ODIN this > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911677
after that boot it up
store latest SU file in sd card and this debloated ROM (only ROM and nothing else ) from adryn >>

and then again shutdown and ODIN CWM and without booting install SU first via recovery
boot up
shutdown
reboot into recoveryand flash the alreday stored adreyn's debloated version.

Been using it for couple days. Nothing new to report, went back to ED03. If we could just get the stability of GB 3G signal I would be a very happy camper.
+1 for the EA28 modem, at least for my phone in a VZW marginal reception area where 1x reigns supreme. Easy to get the missed calls, by attempting calls during bootup, sleep-wake, busy with GPS/aGPS, etc.
In my particular case, ED04 made things worse. EC09 was much much better. EA28 had the least missed calls as far as I can tell (n=1). YMMV.

Yup, fixed some wifi issues (constantly dropping connection) for me.
Thanks for the info. I never had the WiFi issue so I guess the update is rather useless for me. Oh well.
Thanks again!

Sorry, but I cant provide a link as it was OTA. I noticed it yesterday on the phone and updated, although I dont know how long its been out. I did some quick research and there doesnt seem to be a lot of information about it except that some say they lost Arabic support.
My phone is, I think, a unit from France so I dont know if all regions have the update. Maybe the others who responded to this thread can shed some light to the updates availability.

My GPS is no different than before, just to let you know for comparison.
Thought my GPS was broken too but it just took a while to 'find' itself. Was hoping the update might have been a preparation for an unlocked bootloader (yes I know it has only been announced for 'current and future handsets'). But I still live in hope. Only had the update for a couple of hours so will need to monitor over a couple of days to assess the affect.
