[Q] Nodo + Micro SD Card update together? - Focus General

I am planning on updating my Focus to NoDo this week and have held off on adding a Micro SD card. I figure since I'm resinstalling everything this would be a good time to add an SD card (especially now that there are certified cards coming out).
Has anyone done this with the unbranded NoDo update? Can I save a back up of my phone (with stock 8GB memory), add NoDo to the phone and then reimage the phone with the backup image I created for the NoDo update? Or will the new larger memory now available break that?
What is the least painful way to add a card?
My wife's Focus has had a card since launch day so I never had to reinstall everything.

NoDo does not delete anything since it creates a back up and then loads new system with all info intact. So you could add the card before or after. I personally would add it after as some are reporting better performance with NoDo.

Next to just syncing your files, there is no backup solution yet, it seems.

Recover pictures

Hi I installed Mango but i forgot to save my pictures. I took out SD card before i wiped so is there a chance of getting pictures back?
I really need help on this one. I need my family pictures back!
yes. if you have taken out the sd card before flashing / updating new rom and never reinserted since then, you could try to flash back the rom you were on before. don't insert the card before this is finished and then don't make a hard reset when card is back in! you should be able to use the card like before and access your old pics, because the card wassn't encrypted before mango. good luck!

Sorry, this won't work. your new flash will not recognise the old sd and will ask you to insert the correct sd.(that is if you CAN upgrade to mango without sd in). remember WP7 uses NAND and SD as raid memory so each installation is different.
Not sure what you can do unless skydrive or zune has copies
personally I would keep sd until someone figures a way to access and decrypt the data on it.
not, if he flashes back to where he came from (7004 /8 or nodo), there the sd will be recognized (had issues with my old sd in the early days of wp7 on my hd2 and even after hard resets (with sd outside the phone for sure) the sd was recognized after reinserting and my tile colors etc, were back then. i know, that this will not work in mango build, but that was not exactly the question i think, its worth a try, he got nothing to lose (as it's still lost for now )

switching sd cards (and back)

Here's one I don't come by often.
I got a new 32 GB class 10 card to test (Transcend ultimate). On the Focus (rev 1.3) there's now a 16 GB class 4.
I want to take out the old card, test the new one and if it doesn't work, put back to the old card. I've already made a backup with the old card.
My questions are:
1. assuming the new card doesn't work, will the Focus see an already "locked" card when put back in the phone, and will it be able to re-format it? Or do I need to unlock the card first?
2. ...and more important: will the backup work?
Did anyone went through this?
You can't test SD cards. You have to format the phone in order to see the new card at all. And if you put the old card back, you have to re-format again, loosing everything on it. Meanwhile your new card will be locked and can't be used anywhere else.
If you are using voluptuary's ROM you can unlock the card and format it on your PC again to use it normally. The phone will see an already locked card. I have swapped out locked cards in the phone and even though it starts from scratch it will work with the cards regardless. Dont know if backups will work with a different sized card though.
@foxbat121: I know that if I'm going to put the card in I'm going to hard reset (ie format) to be seen by the phone. I've written that myself in the wiki, actually
My question was (and still is): will a stock Focus ROM see another locked card? Most probably yes, as fenrir26 says, if a custom rom sees locked cards then most probably the stock should too.
Stock should do the same, before I swapped to a custom ROM I had swapped a 4GB and a 16GB in and out of my Focus a couple time and it didnt have any issues seeing the previous card when I swapped it back in.
Again thank you fenrir26 !
I can confirm that the phone sees locked cards and also switching back to the old card, restore works!

MicroSD Card stopped

Ok hey guys. Yes I searched. This forum and the internet in general.
So I don't know why but all of a sudden my phone won't recognize my SD Card. It has been working for the month that I have had it but all of a sudden... IDK It is a ScanDisk 32GB SDHC-1 U1 Class 10. Anyways I have unlocked bootloader, rooted, xposed installed on stock operating system. I don't have the May OTA Security update and I flashed the zip since I can't accept OTA updates with modded os and it didn't work. No biggie, I don't really care about the May Security update anyways. This was like 2 weeks ago. Well I get tired of seeing the screen asking for me to download it so two days ago I got the app "DisableService" and in the folder Motorola Update Services, I disabled Ota Service. That's the only thing I have done recently. Anyways last night I pick up my phone and notice some of my apps have disappeared. I look in the storage and usb section and the sd card is there but greyed out. I restarted my phone a couple times, popped the sd card out, cleaned the contacts, and put it back. Nothing. I have everything backed up anyways so I forgot the card and reformatted it but I get this error
Whenever I reinsert it I get the notification "Unsupported ScanDisk SD card" but I can't format it. Maybe the card went bad all of a sudden? It's just weird. So I bought a new MicroSD card-PNY Elite-X 64GB microSDXC UHS-I, U3. It's on the way but I don't like not knowing what went wrong with the one I had. Any suggestions?
SD cards do go bad. Do you have any SD cards laying around you can put in just to test if it is the SD card or the phone hardware?

The only other one is in my wifes phone and I'd have to forget it and wipe it. No biggie I guess I'll just wait for the new one and see. I upgraded to 64GB and U3 so I'm happy about that.

What happens to apps on SD when phone is formatted for an update?

Hello!
Hope this is not a duplicate question.
Now that Oreo is finally available officially for Brazil, at least for the ZTO, I'd like to install it from scratch rather than applying on top of Nougat.
I have some apps installed on my SD card and I'm not sure what happens to them when the phone gets formatted.
Does the app data on SD get erased? Will Oreo know that there apps on the SD card after the update?
Thanks!
