Hi there,
Is there a way to make the default notification ringtone silence? I set up a customized ringtone for SMS with Light Flow app. Now, I hear two ringtones when I receive SMS. One from Light Flow app and the other one from the default notification ringtone.
Thank you!
Go into the stock SMS app and turn off auto retrieve and notifications in the settings menu.

Have searched high and low but cannot find anything. I need to know if there is a way to set the email notification sound and a separate one for sms notifications? I know you can change the sound in the gmail app but it doesn't apply to the main email app, so no matter whether I get a text or email it plays the same ringtone - it's very straightforward on winmo but on Android I cannot find anyway of doing it.
Any ideas?
Set your default notification sound as one tone for email. Set notification for messaging as the other.

In Android you can set your ringtone up by opening messaging hit the menu button then settings and look for notifications you should find you can set the ringtone from there, do the same for your email.

All sorted now second post had the answer, your method cannot be used as there is no ringtone settings in the mail app - that's what stumped me first off.

Settings/Notifications/Ringtone. In all messaging/email/Google Talk apps. They can all be changed independent of each other.

Hmmm strange just double checked this Rom on my HD2 and it's there under notifications in settings in both email app & gmail app, also checked my X10 and it's the same so maybe something to do with the rom you're running. As long as you're happy with your fix no probs.

Similar question - is there a way to disable sound for emails and enable sound for texts and vice versa? In volume control under settings, there is only one bar that lets you adjust all notification sound levels.

Turn sound for emails on/off:
open mail app > menu > more > settings > Notification settings
Turn sound for texts on/off:
open messaging app > menu > settings > scroll down to 'Received messages' section
Thank you, this is exactly what I needed

when i have my phone on vibrate it does so with calls but not on texts even though i turned on the option under the settings for texts. i also tried audiomanager which doesnt seem to work either.
anyone else having this problem and is there a way to fix it?
Annoying as it is, the vibrate for incoming texts is controlled separately from the ringer volume. Meaning that if you turn on vibrate, it will always vibrate even if your phone isn't set to vibrate.
Menu -> Settings -> Vibrate from the text thread list.
My solution is to use the Tasker app to vibrate the phone when I receive a text on the condition that variable %SILENT = vibrate.
What I'm trying to say is that even when I go to settings and vibrate under text menu it doesn't vibrate on texts. I may give that app a try.

I started having this problem a few days ago and just solved it. I'm using Handcent for SMS, and even though my phone was set to vibrate, and Handcent notifications were set to vibrate, suddenly all of my notifications (Handcent and otherwise) stopped vibrating. Vibrate still worked on calls. I simply downloaded the free app "Sound Manager" from the Market and went to Vibrate from the Menu. For some reason Vibrate for Notifications was set to "Never". Not sure how, since I don't think there's a setting for this in the stock settings on the Epic, but I changed it and now vibrate works on all notifications again.
To me this is easier than setting something up in Tasker (though Tasker is way cool).
Sweet! Thanks so much its finally working now...

Is there anyway to set the notifications to vibrate more than twice for incoming text messages?

Install NoLED... It has repeat options for notifications. That's what I've been doing...
My legend is running froyo and I have an issue with the sound notifications when I receive texts.
I do not want sounds when I receive a text. So I went to settings in the messaging app and disabled sounds. But I still continue to get sounds. I've had to mute notifications for now. I am not able to turn off vibration either.
It's like its linked to the main notification settings.
Help please ?

Okay i managed to fix that issue.
notifications working as i choose them to now.
But one thing still bothers.
i have a prepaid connection. my service provider sends me my remaining credit notifications after every text i send.
and i receive those messages with a sound, which is dependant upon the ringtone volume i think.
any way to turn THAT sound off?
A2017G here... I installed whatsapp and the messaging itself is working fine. However, I noticed that the message tone was a ringtone by default and the list only shows me ringtones- not notifications when i go to settings to change the tones...
Anyone else experiencing the same?
Actually this is not just particular to whatsapp. I just noticed this today that there's no android default system picker for the notification/ring tone as well. It defaults to zte's built-in picker.
I would appreciate if someone can figure out how to change your notification and ring tone to something else

I had to silent my WhatsApp notifications because of that. Hated the full ringtones.
I finally had to do this the crude way.... You have to have root though.
Copy your ring tones/notification sounds to system/media and the respective folder instead like the good ole days.
Reboot, then it'll show up on the zte tone picker app.

Is there a more stock-like sounds picker we can flash (that uses the standard folders) instead of the weird ZTE picker?
