Should i use it when capturing photos with flash on ?
apparently this is what you should do:
[good light][day photos]
NO Smart Stablisation
NO flash
AUTO mode is great
[low light][night photos]
YES Smart Stabilisation
NO/YES flash = try it with NO first if u want natural photo and see if its acceptable photo.
Otherwise it is strongly recommended to use flash at night or at low light conditions
AUTO mode is OK /or Can try adjusting iso/exposure/etc settings

Great , but when taking night photos with flash on , should image optimisation be on or off ?
What's image optimization? U mean highest pic quality?
What Samsung calls smart stabilization it's not real stabilization to begin with. In order to have real image stabilization for still pictures you need either optical stabilization in the lens or sensor which, as far as I know Note 3 doesn't have. What "smart stabilization" does is take quick burst of shots and combine them into one low noise shot, which is more like special form of HDR. In video mode they're using digital stabilization, when lets say first frame is taken from center of the sensor and the next frame from different area according to your hand shake, so both frames align properly. I would say you should experiment and see what works and what doesn't. With static picture, smart stabilization should work just fine, with any type of movement in the frame things will start getting tricky, but really experimenting is the way to go.
It looks like we have full support of camera 2 api.
try snap camera from the store it have a option to enable..used the app if I was on aosp rom with the m8
Good to see
I forget where, but this was actually confirmed a looooooong time ago (well... long in tech time. Couple of weeks ago though).
I thought that since Samsung doesn't offer shutter speed control in pro mode that they didn't enable the full camera 2 api.

Hi,
According to the person who wrote this article, it seems that the camera2 api is not fully supported at the moment :
http://spectrastudy.com/camera2-api-on-mwc-2015-devices/
The manual camera checks would then bit too enthusiastic if this is true.
Can anyone who has manual camera installed try to take a picture in RAW and post the DNG file here?
I couldn't find any S6 DNG file on the web; it would be great if someone could confirm whether it is really possible to shoot in RAW with the S6.
With a Nexus 5, the 3 following apps can shoot in RAW :
- a better camera (there is a free version with limited number of shots in case)
- camera fv-5 (paid app)
- manual camera (paid app)

It does, but due to driver limitations, the longest shutter you can choose in Manual Camera app is 1/10. The longest shutter the S6 and edge is allowed to use (when ISO is manually set in the stock camera app) is 1/7. And when Manual Camera opens, WB is all green, so you need to long press WB to make it normal. There is now RAW support wither.
Right now the best camera SW for the S6 and edge is the stock, which is extremely fast to open, very quick to focus and snap, and offers a wide variety of options including manual settings, without shutter control. The latter is a pity, but without long exposures, you can just indirectly control it via ISO, either way, you are maxed out at 1/7. On the bright side... the lens is very bright, offering dramatically better lit details at the same SP and ISO than the S5, Note 4 or One M9, and it makes it a solid snapper indoors. Overall camera2 API is a mixed bag at it's current state and I hope full manual control comes soon with long shutter options.
Not sure this is because of camera 2 API or not, but you guys notice you can now separate auto focus from exposure point in pro mode? You can press and hold to lock the focus point, while shifting the exposure point to elsewhere on the screen. Makes it much better while shooting in situations where background and foreground are in vastly different exposure brackets.

I Installed "Manual camera" app (compatibility app said that it would work) but it doesn't work.
"Manual camera" interface appears, turns green and freezes, and phone either reboots or app
just shuts down. Camera gets a little warm too.
Was hoping to get DNG files from S6, but doesn't look good.
Very disappointed about this.
Uninstalled app and was refunded.
Thanks for the feedback!
I tried the Manual Camera app as well and it all appeared to be working for me, until I attempted to save a RAW image. This crashed my camera and required a full reboot to resolve.

I don't think there's RAW support for any non-Nexus phone (maybe one of the Chinese ones, but not from the major OEMs).
Also, doesn't the shutter top out at 1/10 or 1/7?
Yeah when putting it into raw and gpeg you will get a crash we have to wait for Samsung to do an update . I have a feeling that the ois is the reason samsung cannot alow shutter speed variation as even dslr cameras don't use image stabilization when it's on long exposure and as ois cannot be switched of manually then this will be a problem .
Currently just trying out open camera, is this the best? Clearly the ZTE camera software is terrible, the image processing looks like its been handled by my 1985 Casio calculator.

Hi. I've been using this, much more controls/settings. Even turned on HDR. NO ADS EITHER!
Open Camera is a fully featured and completely free Camera app for Android phones and tablets. Features:
* Option to auto-stabilize so your pictures are perfectly level no matter what (see example image).
* Expose your camera's functionality: support for focus modes, scene modes, color effects, white balance, ISO, exposure compensation/lock, face detection, torch.
* Video recording (including HD).
* Handy remote controls: timer (with optional voice countdown), auto-repeat mode (with configurable delay).
* Option to take photo remotely by making a noise (e.g., voice, whistle), or by voice command "cheese".
* Configurable volume keys.
* Optimise GUI for left or right-handed users.
* Zoom via multi-touch gesture and single-touch control.
* Option to lock orientation to portrait or landscape for photo or video. Upside-down preview option for use with attachable lenses.
* Choice of save folder (including support for Storage Access Framework).
* Disable shutter sound.
* Overlay a choice of grids and crop guides.
* Optional GPS location tagging (geotagging) of photos and videos; for photos this includes compass direction (GPSImgDirection, GPSImgDirectionRef).
* Apply date and timestamp, location coordinates, and custom text to photos; store date/time and location as video subtitles (.SRT).
* Yes you can take a selfie (also known as front camera), includes support for "screen flash".
* Support for (some) external microphones.
* Widget to automatically take a photo after launching.
* Support for Camera2 API: manual focus distance; manual ISO; manual exposure time; RAW (DNG) files.
* Support for HDR and Exposure Bracketing (Camera2 only).
* Dynamic range optimisation mode.
* Small file size.
* Completely free, and no ads in the app
Since ZTE did not implement Camera2 support, third pary apps do not handle it well. The only good option is the native camera app. Image processing is bad yes, but if you care about your photos, shoot them in RAW and do the processing yourself. That can get you some impressive results, on par with the hardware really. Hopefully the next update will fix the autofocusing problem.
How do I shoot in Raw mode on this thing?
I'd rather have a larger file size but a better result.

If you are on the US version of the phone, go to manual mode, settings and enable raw. (you have to shoot in manual mode but can leave all settings auto). If your device is the A2017G version or you use a custom rom, you would have to flash the US camera app from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/themes/zte-camera-flashable-zip-t3553638
Or, if you cannot flash, I'm afraid you'll have to wait until the G version implements the american camera improvements.
I'm not sure what the situation is with the chinese version of the device

Flashing the camera zip won't bring raw support on G devices running marshmallow/nougat roms for G devices...
I think it's a kernel-dependent feature. There's so little information about this...I'm waiting for nougat just for this, but I don't want to lose Xposed either

Oh ok. I assumed it would work on Nougat stock rom, if flashed. It does work on LineageOS A2017G

You assumed something and I assumed something else. I hope I'm wrong. I just found it very weird that no one said anything about it working/not working

Well, I'm not rooted, and have no plans to currently, so maybe raw mode will come at some point.
If not.....I'll live with it.

You don't need to root the phone to install TWRP and flash the zip. But you do need to unlock the bootloader.
Yep, I know
I've done all that in the past, flashing ROM after ROM.
I totally understand why people do it, I was one of them....it's just that's all gone for me now, just want to use the phone.
I'll sideload and apk, but that's about it for me now

Mike did you try it? I'm gonna try one of them. My major problem is when I take a photo in a WhatsApp chat, it opens ok and takes the pic, but then freezes for a while on the photo. If I hit back or try to type or select a function, nothing happens. However the home and recent apps keys work. Actually if I snap the pic then hit recent apps right away then reselect WhatsApp, I can immediately use tools or type. Makes no sense to me, but maybe someone can tell what's happening. For now will try one of the suggested apps.
Hi there,
I am new to this forum. So apologies if I am posting this thread in any wrong section.
I want to know if there is a way to access all the rear cameras in pro mode. As far I discovered, I can only access the centre camera in pro mode. It would be great if there is a way (maybe any app) to access all the features manually. While I was looking out for any solution, I came to know about the app named Filmic Pro. It does amazing things in terms of videography. I can select the cameras (Main camera & wide angle camera but not the Telephotocamera), FPS, Resolution, Shutter Speed, ISO, Focusing and every single available feature of all the cameras. So I think its maybe possible to access the features manually in photography too. Any help would be appreciated.
I tried looking around but found nothing. I love taking pictures of objects far away, especially bright stuff like the moon etc. which the telephoto on the OP8P is quite capable of taking pictures of at decent quality, but without manual focus and brightness controls its absolute hell taking a photo of the moon and similar objects. Right now I have only been able to take pictures by waiting for it to switch between all the focal points and brightnes points and hitting the shutter button at just the right time, which is stupid.
1: Is there already an app that offers this function?
2: If not is it reasonably possible to modify the OP app to enable the 3x in pro mode? As a Comp Sci student familiar with tech is it simple enough that I can do it on my own? Or can someone save me the headache of learning how to do it just for this and do it for me?
Thanks for any answers.
I'm looking for the same solution.
I contacted OnePlus for the Ultra Wide as well.
Hope to see some improvements.
+Up. Also wondering samething.
