Like a MORON i deleted the facebook for HTC Sense app. Whilst trying to recover it i somehow copied and replaced most of my stock evo shift apps with the evo stock apps... nedless to say my phone is pretty ****ed at this point in time. Ive got it somehow working just enough that if i can reinstall all the stock apps to the system/apps folder and factory reset it it will work, however, i can not find all of the stock evo shift apps anywhere ... only the evo 4g ...
if someone can upload theres or knows where i can downlooad tyhem id greatly appreciate it.
Just flash a stock ROM, I recommend MikShift, without wiping and that should fix it.
U could just ruu back to stock and then use the gui root tool to gain root again.

I just had my phone rooted on tuesday by a friend. It started turning itself off for the first few hours and went back to normal for a day. Last night it started turning itself on and off every minute. I know nothing about phones, can anyone help me?
How did your friend root?
Did they delete system apps?
Did they apply lag fixes?
Perhaps just flash a custom rom. Their better than stock and should fix your issue. I hope they didn't do a lag fix. Disable it if they did.
He did something like holding the power button/volume up/down to get into download mode? That's all i know. He said he didn't remove any of the system apps, or change anything. He added a wifi-tethering for me, that's why he rooted it. I know nothing about phones and computers. I'm out of town for another week so i can't have him fix it, but i need to do something so i can use my phone. Any suggestions?
oh ya, he used ODIN if i remember right
I don't know why he would be using Odin if all he was doing was rooting the phone. Can you get to the web to DL anything? I would try flashing something with clockwork till you can re-flash to stock with Odin. You need to find out what exactly your friend did when he worked on your phone.
Can you adb? I would like to see the log.

my phone wont stay on long enough to do anything. When i push the power/up/down buttons at the same time i get a picture of a droid and it says power reset or unknown upload mode
whats adb? I'm a preschooler when it comes to anything computer/phone related
I was getting panic mode/upload when I was messing with eugenes kernals.

As was I, and that's the only time I've seen that screen.
OP, you're friend definitely did more than simply root your phone. Especially if you say he used Odin? There's no reason to use Odin to gain root.
I would recommend you Odin back to stock and start fresh.
is there any way i can do it without Odin? I'm out of town for a week and need my phone
Rom manager / clockworkmod. Just go to the app store (it's free) and download it. Flash the recovery and flash back to stock 2.1 eclair. It should fix it then when you get home just use the one click root method to root your phone. Check the vibrant bible in android dev. to do it, it's really easy to do yourself since it is literally, one click ^_^ Also for the rom of 2.1 I also recommend going to the vibrant bible for that as well. All you have to do is dl rom manager, put the 2.1 rom on the root of your sd (not external sd) then go into rom manager and install custom rom (pick the stock 2.1). It will wipe your data but your phone should be fixed and you can always dl back your apps and import contacts through your gmail account. Hope this helps.

that's eugene's stock 2.1 for vibrant flashable through clockworkmod ^_^
ok..need some help here. Everytime I flash any sense 2.0 rom (port) Im plagued by the same error. I can use Titanium backup to reinstall about 90% of my apps but when I get to about 150mb of free space left NOTHING will install. I cant add a market app, cant complete my backup restore...nadda.
Im on an 004 EVO , Ive re-rooted with UnREvoked, and with Autoroot 2.24. Nothing works. My factory based (3.70) roms work fine. Ideas?
I have ran Warm Z and Mik Z. I didn't use titanium backup when i flashed WarmZ and downloaded all my apps with AppBrain. When I flashed to MikZ all of my apps and text messages were automatically restored via HTC hub.... So maybe that is why your having a problem.
If I do it with appbrain it will do the same. Lets me get down to about 150 mb of free space and then wont let me install anything else. I get the "invalid package" or "download unsuccessful". Is like either my free space reporting is screwed or there is something wrong with my partitioning in the 2.0 roms.
You can try retoring your apps with Astro, pain in the ass that it is, then restore data with Titanium.
its not related to way in which I restore the apps...more in the way the rom reports the free space. Ive tried different recoveries thinking that may solve the problem but have had no luck. The remarkable thing is that it only applies to ports. Anything based on the factory RUU works fine. This is more low level than just my install method..
re-rooted again with autoroot last night, gonna have to try the new MikZ thats supposed to some out today. Ive only used the ports from VirusRom, so maybe its related to the was Virus sets up his ports.. I would ask him but he banned me from his site after being there for 5 months and donating quite a few bucks...
and V, no hard feelings buddy but not cool. You should check the email I sent you, cant believe everything you read.
No ideas huh? I really wanna run a Z rom. Works fine on my sons 002 but I cant go through all the trouble of swapping

I would say its something to do with how you're partitioned. Were you using DTs a2sd at all? Last z rom I was on, which was myns, a2sd didn't work correctly. Maybe somethings conflicting?

I finally got around to rooting my mytouch. It was pretty simple really with visionary. My problem is that I would rather keep the sense ui and Widgets than switch to gingerbread without the convenience of swype and the nice and reliable Widgets from sense and froyo. That being said, the issue still remains. I deleted the original backup for the mytouch by accident. Since I no longer have this file, how can I go back to stock?

Well you can either use the 2.5 recovery image and flash the PD15IMG. But you must do it from the HBoot screen. Or you can visit the development section. They have a few stock nandroid back ups. That haven't been signed into google.

or you can download this rom and make a new nandroid, as this is just the stock 2.2.1 rom with root permissions added...
Or you could get widgets with the same functionality on the market for free, and sign up for the swype beta. Seriously, a ROM free of bloatware and manufacturer's framework overhead is worth it (IMHO).
Does anyone know of a dual booting recovery or a way that i can have two ROMS at once on my phone. That way i can freely switch on start up from cyanogen mod to MIUI.

I don't know about having two ROM's at once but you could just make a backup of both CM7 and MIUI. It saves all your setting and only takes about 5 minutes to flash from one to the other.
I assume your referring to a nan-droid backup and if that's so i would love to do that but the issue with that is i have the default android software saved there. I would over write it but the fear of losing it and not being able to flash back in case i need to take my phone back to the store and get a new one. I have actually done this before and they accepted it because i flashed the factory software from a update on te HTC page, unfortunately there is no update from the original software on the HTC site for the shift.
You can make multiple backups through ROM manager. I have both a Cm7 and a MIUI backup saved to my SD card.

No he is speaking of a dual boot recovery, where when I powered my phone up I could choose cm7 or I could choose miui to load, and I would have this choice everytime I booted.

I've been looking for something like this for cm7 and sense dual booting.

There was someone working on this on the heroc forum, but I'm unsure if it ever actually worked or not.
I would much rather choose upon booting then going through the rom manager. Although i have never tried what you were speaking of so I'll give that a shot. Hopefully i can get MIUI to stop randomly restarting itself so i can use the ROM.
my wifes epic is beat up (women just kill there phones) and acting funny. my epic is in good condition (i am no longer with sprint) but i have installed cm7 on it, so i want to activate it on her account. problem is that when i call sprint, they want me to enter dialer codes and its not working. So what do i need to do? mind you i already have my cm7 phone set up with all her favorite apps, and sms's so i would hate to have to go back to a stock rom, activate it and install cm7 fresh.
what do i need to do? thanks, and yes i did a google search, and i am aware that its reccomended to flash a stockish rom and then go back to cm7 after activating, but those were old threads, i am hoping maybe there is some new discovery to make things easier.
Thanks in advance.
You could use the temp boot FC09 utility. Dialer codes are only available on TW roms. You can find it on the epic cm9 website. It will allow you to boot the rom once from the sd card and go right back to your cm7 setup on the next boot. Otherwise just make a nandroid, flash a mtd tw rom, then restore your cm7 nandroid after activation.
