EVDO rev. B & LTE support coming to the EVO? - EVO 4G General

Take this for what it is, it could mean the EVO is going to get support for EVDO rev. B & LTE or it could just be leftover unused code but I did find these references in the leaked gingerbread init.rc.
My guess is that it's leftovers but I guess we won't know for a while
Code:
setprop net.tcp.buffersize.lte 4094,87380,196608,4096,16384,196608
setprop net.tcp.buffersize.evdo_b 4094,87380,262144,4096,16384,262144

Lte with the evo would be sooo tight

No ones sure about rev b ... so we can only hope! Not so hopeful about lte tho.

Much more likely to be left over code from other devices. The sense code is most definitely shared between devices.
A while back I also looked into Rev b support, and while the snapdragon has support, it lacks the transmitter. Likely to be similar with LTE and authorization will likely be done with SIMs.

I thought the radio on the EVO would not be compatible with LTE... AFAIK, only the towers can be upgraded by changing a few pieces of equipment to make them LTE-compatible. As far as the phone goes... well it won't connect to LTE since the radio was not designed for it.
At least that was my understanding around the EVO and its compatibility with LTE.

pretty silly statement. LTE is no better than WiMax in any way. Just b/c the Evo gets LTE doesn't mean it solves all the problems WiMax has given people. And by all the problems I mean the 1 and only problem in that is has provided poor coverage. This is mainly because of the freq its on. Just swaping over to LTE on the same freq will do nothing to help us.

Doesn't matter how fast it is if it's 2.5Ghz and won't propagate or penetrate walls. That freq range is only slightly lower than military satcom. It's best suited for circular polarized line of sight type
communications, or short range only.

I think when people say LTE would be better it's because Sprints LTE implementation would almost definitely be done over their old Nextel frequencies. Which basically means better penetration than Clears WiMax.

There is no saturation on Verizon's LTE networks so to make that statement makes you appear stupid. Please, next time, think before you speak.

that or they simply don't understand what they are talking about to begin with fully. Regardless anything being used on that freq will not take place till 2013 since thats when they said they plan to have iden shut off and switched over to using cdma.

btw Great to see you around Calk! Hows the kid doing? gotten a chance to check out the Sensation Port at all?

Unused code: LTE requires a new radio, Rev b most likely would too, but it doesn't matter as no carrier supports EVDO rev b anyway.

You say that like it's trivial. Those two factors make the 4G network unusable even in areas where it's supposed to exist.

The EVO already has built in support for Rev. B, LTE would be impossible as it is in the GSM family and would require a SIM card.

Correct. To my knowledge, Verizon hasn't launched any device capable of that yet. I know the service is on track for a December launch.
I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you live in NYC, LA, Houston, etc., you won't get LTE until around 2013. We'll all have new phones by then.

Expect 4g start to roll out in the first quarter of 2011. From what I understand, February. Once rolled out, it will be the most comprehensive 4g available in the US. Verizon has more more towers and are being retro-fitted.

Without Lightsquared what does that mean for LTE?

It means LTE will not be in lightsquared's 1600mhz band, and instead will be in Sprint's 1900 and 800(former iden) bands which they would have been using anyway. So it means Sprint may be looking for additional spectrum to increase capacity down the line.
There was already a thread about this, must have died. Anyway their Lightsquared deal was to allow them faster deployment of LTE iirc. And also different spectrum.

I think being a sprint customer, by now we all should be use to slow/partial roll outs of any kind that sprint has their hands on. But I highly doubt they would drop a contract or whatever without having some sort of plan. That would just be horrible business to kill something like that and just stand there and go "now what."

No. Lightsquared's LTE was to be an addition to Sprint's LTE; same with Clearwire's LTE.
Materially, however, we will have less 4G LTE coverage/spectrum due to the loss of this agreement, and Sprint lost a lucrative revenue source (billions of dollars).
sprint have lost one, but gained an new one.

Virgin Mobile now has 4G

Virgin Mobile has now rolled out a 4G phone. For us Epic 4G users running on Virgin Mobile, I was wondering if it was possible to call up Virgin, find a nice support technician, and squeeze some info out of them. Perhaps get them to add our mac addresses to the system and clear us for 4G use.
Since the price points aren't changing, I don't see what the problem would be. All they have to do is add our mac address to the system and we should be able to pick up the networks.
I'm not expert at this, and I may be missing something. However, that's what I at least think should fix the problem.
I may give this a spin sometime, just have to get an understanding technician.
What are your theories? Any ideas? Something you have been working on?

It's sprints Wimax... They invested too much in Wimax to just toss it out the window so they opened it up to us boost Virgin users to get some extra life out of it since sprint will be rolling out it's LTE soon.
And don't trust sprint or boost or Virgins site for Wimax coverage... They have switched on a bunch of Wimax towers that don't show up unless you look on clear.com

I asked the store rep if Sprint is working on a fix, but we all know the Sprint reps are usually useless answering these questions (by this I mean at the store they are only trying to make a sell). Her answer was that Sprint is working on a fix that will fix all phones with an OTA. My next question was is this a hardware or software problem which she responded that it is a tower problem. I looked online for an answer but all I could find is that Sprint responded with a weird kinda lame answer that didn't really say if they are working on a fix or not. On Sprint's Forum a rep says they are, but they say a lot of things on the forum that aren't correct also. This seems to be a very frustrating situation actually.
Does it matter to you?
It does to me, but at the same time it isn't a function I use all the time. My only reason that it has helped me, is that it has greatly helped me with work a few or more times.
I am kinda forced to buy a new phone for framily / billing reasons... huge bill without it. I am sorta thinking that I will upgrade the phone but at the same time keep my S4 handy in case I hate the S5. I went to the store today and I have to say it actually surprised me with it's new version of Touchwiz- even though I usually hate Touchwiz.
The only real reason I can see me upgrading is the camera and battery algorithms for power saving.
I call crap!
I've had none of these issues personally, and you can just turn off Spark.
I spoke with sprint today and they said it would be fixed when spark opens up nation wide.

Spark is crap!!!
The reason you can only use one at a time is the triband antenna in the phone it can only use one signal at a time. It may be fixed once sprint starts using voice over LTE. Plus spark is just a unborn baby right now, not even full deployed. The sprint map says spark coverage is in certain areas on the sprint coverage map on the website. This is not true, the sprak network is 2.5Ghz radio head on the the already existing towers(have not be built or not on-air yet). According to sprint Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung towers are the only companies that are contracted to work on spark networks. Ericsson is looking like they will not be apart of the upgrade. This means there will be 1/3 of the sprint market that will not have spark. Sprint has the the companies split by markets and only two of them have contracts to build in their area.
Here is an article that will cover a good about of that info.

NSN will be the contractor for the Areas served by Ericsson for NV 1.0. The reason you can not get SVLTE is because they do not have multiple pathways for 1x and LTE. Here it talks about it. The S5 was not the first phone to have this happen, All tri-Band Phones will most likely be without SVLTE from now on.
S4gru has a few pages explaining it better.

Having sprint spark doesn't mean your going to have best speeds unless your connected to band 41 or band 26 which is the newest bands. With those speeds you have there i wouldn't be surprise if your connected to band 25 which is the 1900mhz which yea its loaded with majority of sprint customers which is going to give you real slow speeds.
Here some speed test on band 41 i took yesterday morning when i was heading to go play some basketball.
