Having some trouble here with USB tethering. Connect the phone and enable the USB tether option on the handset, Windows seems to install the NDIS driver and the Network and Sharing Center usually shows that the device is connected and has access to the internet, however that is not the case. Pages time out, and it seems like DNS isn't working. Firefox sits there on "looking up..." and eventually times out.
Tried a bunch of stuff such as setting a static DNS server (8.8.8.8, 8.8.8.6) but no good. Tried disabling ipv6, no good. Tried manually uninstalling the NDIS driver and letting it reinstall, no good. Tried this that and the other thing, no good. FWIW, in network connections the NDIS icon almost always shows as disabled, even though the rest of the windows networking crap says it's connected. grrrrr.
Wifi tether works fine, but this is beginning to really bug me.
Did the windows dignostic BS and get this result:

Anyone have any advice?
Also fwiw, I've got Easytether installed and have no problem at all tethering my GF's Motorola Spice via USB.
Well, I finally figured it out.
I've got my computer connected to my router via lan cable. The router is in client mode, so it pulls internet access from elsewhere, wirelessly, and delivers it to my PC via the lan cable. Sometimes, however, the router is not actively connected to any active hotspots, so no internet access is available, although it is always connected to my PC via cable.
... and that is where the problem lies.
Since the default gateway for the wired lan connection is different than the default gateway for the USB Tethering connection, it caused Windows to have massive problems with DNS. Even though the USB tethering was connected and was the only source of internet access at the time, the PC still wanted to use the default gateway for the wired lan connection for some reason.
Long story short, disabling the wired lan connection caused USB tethering to begin working properly.
... and now it's not working again. My PC probably needs a format and reinstall of windows or some****. Oh well, wifi tether works fine.
Just realized this AM that 2.3.4 fixed this issue. Tethering works great and my throughput is through the roof. Excellent.
Hello HaddKoe,
Question did you ever get this to work correct.
I have a buddy that has a root HTC EVO 3D and Today I managed to follow your instructions. I disable wired lan and PDANET. I connected using wired tether and great speeds. I disconnected and tunr on PDANET to test and it was working fine.
I disabled PDANET and tried wired tether and it did not connect.
What I am thing is that PDANET has its own DNS and once open causes wired tether not to work.
I'm restarting now with wire Lan and PDANET disabled, Ill post if it works faster
OK computer restarted and it was trying to connect. When I tried opening control open it locks up and the small little network icon near the clock shows that it is connected but no browser activity.

ok here's the problem
you want to connect to a wired network or even simply a single pc connecting to the net on a broadband or dialup connection.
if there was a wireless router then it wouldnt be a problem. your pda would connect to the wireless network and the wireless router would give your pda an address and everything would work.
without the wireless router you don't get allocated an ip address.
well problem solved www.nat32.com has a program called nat32e which you can get a demo version of (works for an hour before needing to be restarted)
essentially this is a nat router which runs on any pc running windows
you need a wireless card in addition to its ethernet connection to the net.
I did this with 2 wireless cards so in theory it could be used to extend the effective range of an existing wireless network too
installation is simple but basically you give the wireless card i used a belkin usb 54g dongle type on channel 6 a fixed address and tell it to connect to an adhoc network called "whatever"
you add a network packet driver, nat32 holds your hand installing this,
then the pc needs a reboot.
first time you run nat32 it runs through the configuration you tell it what card connects to the internet and which card connects to your private net
(that is your adhoc wireless network) it sets things up
scan for a network on your pda tell it to look for adhoc networks connect to "whatever" and tell it when it asks, it connects to work.
you should then have wireless access to the net.
if your doing this with two wireless cards make sure you have seperate channels set up for your infrastructure network and your adhoc network.
the belkin 54g usb wireless dongle costs about 25 from staples or 30 from pc world (both are local for me)
the host pc will run fine without any problems with nat32 running or not
no proxys need configuring a registered verion of nat32 costs from
$25 but this gets you registered for just one pc and really you want it so you can roam with a usb wireless card in your pocket and your pda.
I think adhoc wireless networking works for up to 30 wireless points.
i did it with a pda, mdaIII and a laptop.
basically like ics but with less problems
I think you can do this with bluetooth as well but that really isn't fun
hope this is useful sorry its so rough but i have to get to work
Think you may be on the trail of a problem that I am stuck on at the moment . I have the XDA11i and want to connect it via blue tooth to a blue tooth modem connected in turn to to a BT wall socket ( in that way I can surf for 1p per min !!!) no matter what I seem to do whilst the PDA will recognise the Modem as a serial modem ( and form a secure link ) it wont talk to it and get it to dial up . Zoom ( Hayes ) are wondering if 02 have disabled the element in blue tooth that lets this work ? Any thoughts . with the above I dont need to lug my lap top round with me .

I have tried for a while to share my internet connect ion from my vista laptop with my wm device over wifi and could never get it to work.. last night I got it working by giving my device a static ip and maually configurin g dns servers. I think the problem is that with dhcp enabled vista wants to give me an ipv6 address, and perhaps wm does not know how to properly ignore ipv6 requests. With dhcp enabled if i look under the network adaptor settings the server assigned ip looks like a v6 address. I tried disabling v6 on all my network adaptors in vista but still no go. Is there a fix for this?
Go to the Vista machine. Open up Help and Support and Type in:
Set up a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network
Should be the first link.
Just remember, once you disconect either the PC or Phone you will not be able to re connect correctly and the entire process has to be reset up.
So keep in mind dont tell either device to remember the network otherwise you will end up with hundreds.
i bought a wrt320n gigabit router from linksys.
i have an htc touch (elf) with wm6.1
now i tried to connect my device to the router wireless .
now the only thing my htc says is connecting but it never connects .
when i connect to another access point it asks for a password like it should .
but when connecting to my linksys router it just keeps connecting without making a connected status and askin me for the security key.
my router give me the exact info on how to config my phone but it just wont connect .
how can i make my phone connect ??
Some routers allow new connections only after registration of the device (e.g. phone) on the router itself. This registration acts as an extra security measure besides the key. Only registered devices may connect. You could check your router documentation to see if this applies to your situation.
Hi all,
Recently changed from a topaz to HD2 (also moved from orange to T Mobile UK) and having some trouble accessing my home FTP.
Using the latest version of FTP addon in resco explorer, and it was working perfect when run on my previous phone using identical settings, but now i have the following problem.
I try to connect ,
my FTP server show user connecting from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (which shows that atleast im making contact on port 21 to open a connection)
my phone shows cannot connect and gives error 10054
my FTP server shows "an established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine"
It seems port 21 is connecting but not relaying the info about the passive port range. port 21 and the passive port range are open/forwarded on my router and windows firewall. And like i said i have been able to connect through this router/firewall previously.
On occasion i can connect but its maybe 5% of the time and i can discern to pattern to it.
I can connect fine if i connect my phone to my home wifi just not through 2G or 3G, Im starting to think that its a problem with tmobile.
I would appreciate any ideas that may help solve this problem
thanks
rumple
T-Mobile blocks FTP connections by default in all markets. Heres a bit of info:
Carrier Provider: 3G T-Mobile
DNS Lookup to external server allowed?: NO
Blocked Ports: 21(FTP) 135(RPC) 139(NETBIOS) 445(SMB)
BitTorrent Blocked: No
HTTP Caching: No
Kinda interesting that they block FTP and RPC but dont block BT....WTH? LOL
(Yes i know this is an old thread but this would have been useful info when I first started too...

What mode do u use for sharing the connection?
Access point or ad hoc?

Tried both nothing seems to work.. Right now I tried by creating a hotspot using connectify pro I could see my SSID and in my phone it says connected likewise in my connectify it displays my device connected with my lap. I tried to access internet in my phone it says "No internet found" :crying:
Try turning on Internet Connection Sharing manually? Network and Sharing Center, Change adapter settings, right-click the relevant network (probably "Wireless Network Connection 2" or similar), Properties (requires Admin), Sharing tab, check the box, select your PC's internet-connected interface (probably "Local Area Connection" or "Wireless Network Connection" but could be something else depending on your network configuration) in the drop-down, and hit OK...

I finally solved the problem , I used the following methods
1. Updated the wifi driver to latest
2. Used latest connectify version
3. Allowed the Firewall to access the hotspot
And now it works like a charm
