The ARC seem to have really bad receptions. I only have connection in the house, but in the garden it cannot connect to my wifi, signal is too low.
However, my HTC desire still have a good connection within 5-10 meters in the garden.
The Arc has connection in the house but signal is also low and not very good.
Anybody the same problem?
I try to 10-11 meter and connection is good......your access point is Wi FI what ????
No problems here works really great and fast
Indeed I think arc is better.quickest time to connect.better signal

Did you compare your nexus 1 with your ARC and which one does lost signal first when you walk as far as possible from the access point?
I have a wifi n router and I had similar problems with my defy. Although it was connected the signal strength reported as low. Yet it was still connected out in the garden at the same range as my laptop
it seems mines purely graphical, the connection is solid even though it says its poor

That's the difference, my phone loses the signal completely when i am in the garden and it switches over to 3g.
No problems here either.
No problem with my Wifi... Signal strength is same as i had on my X10 & Desire
Signal power is lower on Arc than on X10 in my case.
Wifi connectivity is also wierd with my 2 Arcs as well. I say wierd because I suspect it is more than just a signal strength problem.
The Arc definitely has poorer reception strength than my Desire HD. At the same location, my DHD can connect faster, at a higher speed (>72mbps vs max 54mbps on Arc), and much more stable than the Arc.
In fact, Arc's network connections frequently hang/drops especially when I have an Automatic push Exchange account and/or Enabled wireless location services. When it happens, all apps needed network connectivity will respond with error.
But this happens both with 3G and Wifi........
I have also heard that if one downgrade the wifi to network G only, Arc performs much better. Seems to be a serious issue with the arc's wifi.
The problem with my WiFi is the same, HTC Desire signal strength is much more better, then the ARC . The router is a Linksys WRT54GL .
I must say my hero has better wifi than the arc when testing from my garden the arc loses signal whilst the hero holds it

I'have the same....and before, i had an HTC DESIRE HD....I hope dev will found a solution....perhaps with CYANOGENMOD...if it come on the Arc !
My wifi now wont connect its says limited connectivity though everything else works including my HTC hero in my other hand. Grrrrrrrrr :-(

I had the same problem with wifi at first. I was losing data while my wifi clearly indicate reception. It was worse on heavy data like youtube. I discover that my modem had problem keeping my arc connected while changing from A to N. Changed the setting to A and B/G only and now everything is perfect !!

Yup I have the same problem with my ARC tried to optimise settings on my router but still no joy my SE arc only connects to wi-fi in the room where my router is where as all other mobile devices works fine in every corner of my apartment .
i can't connect to the wifi in my workplace, well it does connect but drops frequently, and when it is connected its a very low signal. Never had this problem on my Nokia n900/X8/Hero/X1/Samsung Jet etc etc. Strange.
how did you change the wifi to only a/b/g i cannot seem to find it in the settings
Related
I got the WPA2 working. But it drop connection and acts badly.
Strange thing is when I stand and holdl the phone from the antenna I get 80% signal quality as best, If I move away a few steps I get 20% quality
I only tested with WPA2-PSK
How is the quality of your WLAN connections ?
anyone got any wlan input on this topic ?
i get one bar at my school WLAN network (using securew2 to get past all the security), but the speed is great b/c it's a very fast network. so even if your signal is low, you should still get good speed depending on network.
One thing I've observed in phone right after i bought 'em is the WLAN reception. as for the X1 it's just okay. of course signals also depends on how far the range of the hotspot's coverage is but I've tested my devices on a single WIFI router at home and here are the results on "balanced" setting:
1. X1 just about 13 meters from the router is almost dead reception.
2. XDA Zinc is about the same position signal dies.
3. XDA IIi (HTC Alpine) at 15 meters still has a weak signal -> this one impressed me much.
4. HTC Prophet just 3 meters away goes dead. -> this is far worst than I imagined.
5. Nokia N91 about 10 meters still has a weak signal
6. Nintendo DS about 10 meters still has a weak signal.
7. MSI Laptop S420 18 meters away still can watch youtube. ( well of course this is way different. )
And I have all these devices with me.
what that test done with open wlan or WPA2 as I talked out ?
How far from the WiFi HotSpot can your X1 get before the connection is useless? I'm in a house and it barely works in the next room (newer house, walls made of drywall). My brother has an iPod Touch that works all over the house perfectly (same router). I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the WiFi radio on my X1?
i get v good coverage from the x1 as good as the iphone. try changing your radio firmware
WhyBe,
Is it set to best performance or best battery?
Go under settings to check.
Cheers.
Doesn't it depend on the HotSpot itself ?- I mean on the router, its signal strength and etc...I connect to my router trough 2 brick + concrete walls and have no problems at all...Always connected in every room

I can always connect to my router from the door on the street (I live on the first floor) and everywhere in the house including the bedroo with router being on the corridor outside.
And I did not tweak anything in my EnergyROM 3.0
Thanks all. I have never specifically changed my radio firmware. Is this something that is updated when I change ROMs? I've went from R1a to R2a to R3a. Does the radio get changed with these?
I have the X1 set to best performance.
It depends on what kind of router you have. The cheap ones are crappy. I have a medium spec one and I get good connectivity through 3 walls.
I have a LinkSys G router. It is pretty common. Everything I use works fine with it (3 laptops and iPod Touch). Only the X1 can see it but not connect.

Did you see the settings in the phone that allow you to use better Wi-Fi reception, but get poor battery life? I had problems with Wi-Fi until I set it to "better performance" rather than "better battery life".
Yes, it is set to best performance. My X1 recognizes the router but doesn't connect. I'm wondering if there is some other problem?
EDIT: OK, I just discovered that if I turn off the phone radio, the WiFi works properly. Is it supposed to be this way?
with linksys and all other routers really one have to upgrade the firmware once in awhile
to get best support with newer devices

Nope. There is a problem. I have no idea what it could be though . Maybe an update is a good thought.
I only use stock ROMs and haven't really tweaked my system beyond factory state. So I don't see why I need to update anything. I'm thinking there is some sort of conflict between my internet settings for the phone and the internet settings for the WiFi connection?

Mine did that when I 1st tried to set it up, it would find the network (hidden) ok, but would not connect. No matter what I tried, even though 2 pc's (wired), laptop (wireless), xbox (wired) & iPod touch (wireless) were working fine.
I gave up on the X1 and turned my attention to the router, tried a static IP for the X1 etc (it's back on DCHP now), after rebooting the router, the X1 connected and worked fine and it has ever since. I have no idea why - but initially it would not connect - something funny with the router.
I have a netgear router and every now and then kicks me off. i have to disable my wifi on the x1 and reconnect or even power off the router and back on for it to work.
Turn off your router for 1 minute and power back on then try to reconnect your x1.
I have a Linksys WRT160N router and it actually doesn't even detect it when it transmits mixed speed, only of I put it on B and G it detects it.
Otherwise the signal is average, a bit worse then my laptop.

I only use Wi-Fi at my university. Well basically my Wi-Fi works everywhere around campus, at the dorms, and at the movie theater right next to school.
It's freaking great, but I prefer 3G. I just can't afford it.
Just picked up my Desire HD today and it's a lovely phone.
However, the wifi connection is pitiful compared to anything else using my wifi. According to the Desire HD, the wifi signal is poor and it loses connection 6 metres away from the router whilst other devices (an iphone 4, an ipad and a laptop) say the signal is fine.
I have tried both holding the device and putting it on a table, so as to remove any antenna issues while moving away from the router.
Has anyone found this issue or should I expect wifi to be this poor? Is it something I could look into and get sorted?
Thx
Not seen a problem with mine. Got a Draytel router and all is fine anywhere in my house. Can you change wireless channels on the router?
Dave
I've noticed that my wi-fi speeds are hell of a lot slower than 3G speeds. Anyone experiencing similar issue?
wi-fi: DL- 56kbps UL- 78kbps ping- 1218
3G: DL- 3106kbps UL- 1228kbps ping- 131
Device: Xperia Arc
With my previous phone, which was Xperia X1 I had much better results on wi-fi than on 3G. Also because X1 runs on WM6.1 there are settings to improve wifi performance, Android doesn't have anything of the kind as far as I know.
My modem is b/g, Arc has b/g/n. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I wonder what causes this and what could be done to solve the issue.
30 minutes usage of 3G network makes battery very hot, almost kill the phone. Need hardware reset again.
However wifi seems perfect doing well for me.
ARC sometime do run into battery problem, need to give it restart/reset.
No problems with hot battery here on 3G or anything else but the wi-fi speeds are disgraceful.
ive noticed the wifi signal isn't very strong on my arc, even when i'm sat next to router with no other devices near me. My X8 had superb wifi connection speeds, but my arc sometimes won't even detect wifi signals that my x8 had no problem connecting to.
I copied a video to my Arc over wifi @ about 900k/s. It was in the same room as my router. No issues here, except maybe a little less good reception than my laptop, which is normal.
My router is in my living room, I use wifi on my arc all the time from my bedroom and while "sitting on my throne" in the bathroom. No issues.
Maybe you have a loose wi-fi antenna in the phone? (not sure if that's even possible)
I can use the phone in the house too but the speeds are low. If it was the possibly loose antenna I wouldn't be able to fix it without voiding my warranty.
Speaking of warranty... Why doesn't SE say anything about this issue? Would they like me to return the phone to them?

sry, read too fast through topic, thought was more like a general question.
b/g/n device on b/g router is no problem. you should test with different security encryption and on other networks so you can see if it is a problem with your device or router.
Hi, just wondering because I do not have my Arc yet.
Does it happen if the phone is on a table (ie. no "death-gripping
' it, who knows if that s an issue)?
Do you have a cover? on my DHD, a simple gel or whatever case would butcher the GPS performances, for example. Have to take it out of it if I want it to work properly.
Well, I did some more testing today and this thing has me puzzled. First off in the morning I got blazing speeds (in excess of 6500kbps down) on my wifi but in consequent tests the speed was slow (about 50kbps down) again. I went to my neighbours house to try it on his wifi and it ran fast there (6700kbps down). So obviously the Arc wifi can run fast too.
I'm thinking it might have something to do with router configuration as suggested here earlier. My neighbour has b/g/n router and uses WEP encryption. I have b/g router and use WPA2-PSK. I might try to reconfigure and see if it helps.
@kipue - I have no cover on the phone and it runs slow whether the phone is in my hand or on the table.
I wonder what SE might have to say about this issue.

WEP is unsafe, stay with WPA2 if possible. my results were also done on WPA2 secured network.

don't think Arc has death grip problems. tested a lot, signal strength weakens only when i cover the top chrome line (where power button is) with my finger
OK, I think I solved it, for now at least. I changed wifi encryption to WEP and in about 10 speed tests the download speeds ranged from 5000kbps to 9000kbps.
I'm not happy about switching from WPA2 to WEP either but what good is secure wifi if I can't use it? It's not like I'm keeping any secrets here and living in a little village I doubt there are many identity thieves prowling this dead end street.
Try wpa/wpa2 personal/enterprise with tkip/aes, maybe you find a combination witch works fine

Is anybody experiencing wireless signal strength issues with Nexus 10 ?
In the same room with the router the signal strength drops from excellent to none and back at will. Router is fine, I have other devices (apple and windows based) which have no such issue.
Yes I noticed the same issue.
No issues with my one, I have my router in the same room too and I'm getting full strength. Occasionally it drops by one bar momentarily.
Is it just the on screen meter showing the fluctuation or are you actually losing connectivity?

Yeah for me too. When this issue appears I'm doing a speed test and the speed is slow as hell.

Hm, this is a concern. Is that new MIMO wifi thing too new to be released in a product? Hope not.
No issues for me, stable connection all around the house, even in the kitchen where my phone sometimes loses WiFi signal.
Thought I'd post a quick update. I set my IP to be static on Nexus and looks like signal got a bit stronger, it's Max or 3 bars without random dropping. Will see how it goes.

THis is a problem between Android and your router. Certain routers just have this issue, usually because they are not designed a specific way and do one thing or another out of official spec. This causes an Android device to drop out of connection every couple minutes or so. The biggest problem that causes this is routers that do not have a DHCP lease time set up. There are other causes too, but that was a major one. Also make sure you have wifi sleep mode set to never (I think it defaults to off when screen is off), and if you can also set your wifi mode to high performance (usually a kernel feature and I doubt we have it on this tablet yet)
Now this isnt talking about weak strength or losing bars. What I am describing is specifically for Android based devices that can have fine strength and then suddenly at any random time completely drop the connection to nothing, and then try to reconnect once more. Over and over

MIMO is OLD by now. Been around for years
I wanted to chime in here, because I was getting frustrated as well. I was having all sorts of trouble connecting to the 5Ghz signal from my Linksys e4200: sometimes it would show a connection but I wouldn't have internet access, other times the signal was super weak and unreliable. I went into my router's settings and changed the channel width to Auto (20Mhz or 40Mhz) and that resolved the problem immediately.
I hope this helps someone!
I am having a similar issue. Sitting about 10 feet from my router and my signal strength, bars, is down to 1. I know bars mean nothing but this is concerning.
Hopefully this is just a software issue. I have a spare wireless N router that I am going to hook up and use it just for the nexus to see if it helps.

Good question. I was actually thinking about creating a thread for this, but then I saw this! Anyway, I'm in my apartment where I usually get three out of four bars on my HTC one x, but on this tablet I'm getting between one and two, they switch from one to two nearly every ten seconds so maybe I'm right on the edge.
However, so far I have no complaints about Wi-Fi strength - I'm watching Netflix without any problems, browsing chrome is fast, and downloading apps has been fast. These are not very scientific tests, but in normal use it has been adequately speedy. Oh, except when I streamed the free HD video (I won't say which title in case anyone is trying to avoid " spoilers"), it switched from HD to standard definition a few times. could that have just been because lots of new N10 users were accessing it?

Not only do I not have signal issues, but the Nexus 10 is picking up about twice as many wifi networks as my Acer A500 or my DroidX, and no they aren't 5ghz, just better range.
Mine is. So far so good but I don't have a dual band router so I only have 2.4 GHz enabled' its definitely has better radio than my Acer iconia I tested both next to eachother. With Wi-Fi analyzer
I have the same problems... My WiFi signal is as good as it in my Hox, but sometimes my WiFi connexion drop and disappear, just to return after 1-2 seconds. Not sure if this could be a problem with my ****ty router but I have never experienced this "drops" with my phones or computers

I've just done. I noticed that my WiFi signal had many "ups and downs", even using it in the same room where my router is. The signal wasn't very stable so I decided to use my phone as a router and connect the tablet. I have been browsing for a while with my phone WiFi network and I haven't suffer any drops. Signal has been stable so far and with the app WiFi analysed I get much better results.
So I think there is not any problem with the tablet. Somehow it is no it very "compatible" with my router. Not sure if the MIMO technology doesn't get along with my old router
Enviado desde mi Nexus 10 usando Tapatalk 2
I've tried something that seems to help, although it doesn't fix it completely. I accessed into my router's advance settings and changed the "signal interval" from 100 to 10 msec. Not sure this will apply to anyone, but it helped people with similar issues in their iPhone 5 WiFi signal. As I said, my signal seems more stable now
