i thought that it will work with us
i try a program called juice defender {in market} but with no effect
use task killer, set auto kill on safe + on "screen off"
also disable wifi when not using, and only use your phone when u are called xD

OMG don't use any of the task killer apps. They are waking the device periodically - eating CPU cycles just to kill apps that are sleeping (not using CPU cycles) or will be reloaded by the system anyway.
To improve battery life:
- Disable auto syncing
- Disable wifi/3G when not used
- Set screen brightness to low
- Check battery usage and disable/remove apps eating too much juice
- DO NOT OVERCLOCK!

I totally agree with you, and of course waiting for the NAND versions will cut it short. well, can you please tell me how to know that the device is overclocked, is it in the cmd line or something??

overclocked known in startup txt in the root of your memory card {no program needed just the startup} you can find in attached files what you want just replace what you want with the file startup in your memory card

hi all,
i m new user for Nexus one, i wonder what is the best task apps to auto kill when the phone in sleep mode in order to save battery. My phone havent ROOT yet, shall i do it? After i have update the Android 2.1 i found it very good compare with iphone.
thank you very much
Killing tasks won't help to save battery... don't buy the hype. Android will manage your apps for you.
No killing tasks can help your battery. There are many apps on the market that are poorly written and drain battery.

Well that makes sense... but I don't run any poorly written apps. And neither should you.
If you absolutely have to have a task killer, just download Astro File Manager. You'll need a file manager on this phone anyway, and Astro has a built in configurable task killer and can also back up apps to SD.

I try not to. But sometimes I get curious and download some random apps haha.
I use Advance Task Manager since I bought it when I had a Cliq.
It works good when I need to kill something to restart it or if I need to do a batch uninstall.
Astro is amazing and no one should have an android phone without it.
Thks all,
If so, i shall just leave as it is and not install any of those task killer or auto task etc......
But anyway to min the battery drain since there are so much apps running on RAM when the phone is in sleep mode. My battery can only last for 8 hrs from 9am till 5pm (i am so distracted, i do turn on my BT and talk on phone for at least 100mins-150mins a day.)
Thank you

Keep the screen brightness as low as you can. Also having a lot of widgets can contribute to battery drain.

while this is true, I notice that android's threshold for closing programs is lower than I prefer. It seems to start closing programs at around 25 mb free (on stock kernel and rom) as reported by ES strong's task manager. At this level there is a noticeable amount of sluggishness on my N1. Of course this only lasts for perhaps 10 seconds or so as I am switching apps or whatever until android closes the processes to free up some ram.
I've read comments like yours many times, and I go back to not using one for a while thinking I must just be paranoid. Each time I return to the task manager because I get ticked about sluggishness.
If you manage your ignore list carefully to avoid closing stuff you actually want running in the background you lose nothing. The phone is fast enough that it loads apps quickly even if they're not sitting in the ram, so I prefer to hit the autokill widget once in a while or after using something like the youtube app or other resource hogging apps that I don't use on a regular basis.
I haven't noticed a difference in battery life, but the task manager improves my experience with the phone. It seems that as long as the free memory stays around 40+ I don't see the sluggishness.
Which task killer you use?

I've got over 400 hours of uptime without closing ANY apps with a task killer, and haven't had ANY sluggishness. So if you're really noticing your phone slowing down (and be honest), then I'd exchange it. Frankly, I think a lot of people just "think" their phone is slowing down...

Yeah, I'm sure you're right.. it's all in my head.
Couple of things OP:
1. Bluetooth is a battery hog!
2. How frequent do you have email update, weather update, et al set to?
3. Did you properly calibrate your battery meter when you got your N1? (Two ways to do it, 1) follow the in box guide and charge the phone before using or 2) run down the battery until the phone shuts itself off, pull battery out, put it back in. Now, without turning it back on, put it on the charger and leave it on for a couple hours past the green light coming on, take off charge, finally turn back on)
4. Do you have WiFi running? GPS? Streaming anything?
Have you downloaded any apps from the market just on a quim? There are some pretty bad apps that will never close until you uninstall and do a soft reset, and sometimes uninstall again.
Killing apps is actually going to hurt your battery. It takes more juice to power up the CPU to open an app then it does to hold it in the RAM, unless it is a crap written app that keeps running, and running, and running... but you shouldn't be using those apps anyways.

It most likely is... even when apps sit idle in RAM, the CPU usage for them is 0% in almost every case. Like I said... I don't have those issues at all, so it's either in your head or you have a dud.

I don't think it's a problem with my phone. If you don't notice then good for you. I notice it and it bothers me. Your finger pointing is neither helpful or needed.
As android builds are getting more and more closer to being daily builds, one of the standing issues that remains is battery life.
This thread is where posts concerning How to Save battery should go. NOT Questions, but suggestions. If your suggestion is one to look into, it will be added to the OP.
UPDATE: You can now use ALL GOVERNORS For the CPU! (Read more to find out how) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SetCPU
SetCPU, is an app more commonly used for over/under clocking devices.
This short tutorial will show you how you get the app,
get it running, and of course save battery!
*YOU NEED A ROOTFS.IMG THAT GRANTS YOU ROOT ACCESS!*
1. Get SetCPU
A. Download it from *HERE*. (The only XDA thread I could find for it)
OR
B. Support this great application and get it from the Android market by searching for SetCPU.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Getting the App working
1. Once you have the application installed, launch it from your drawer and either grant it Root Permissions or it may auto-configure.
2. Hit Auto Detect Speeds.
3. It should show you the speeds your device it currently running at, now move over to [Profiles] and click Enable and if you want click on Notification.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Make your profiles
1. Sleep Profile - 384 Max/245 Min- Interactive setting
(It may seem high, but this keeps it so that your device wakes up quickly)
2. Battery < 30
Max 614/460 Min- Interactive/Conservative Setting
*Try out the SetCPU Widget!*
If you have any personal settings that you think might be better than these please do post!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 9/15 ALL CPU Governors!
To use the modules use this kernel built from the GIT, and hit auto detect speeds on SetCPU again. Under the main tab choose Your preferred setting..
You can find what all the the kernels differ in in the further pages of this thread, I will update OP later.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Advanced Tab
20000 Sampling Rate
30-50 Up Threshold (THIS IS THE KEY: This means when your CPU load hits 30%, it will scale up the mhz. If the phone still responds too slow for your taste, set this lower)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=777921
Check Set on Boot (And Apply)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Turning off Background Services and Adjusting Brightness
Things like Bluetooth, WiFi, Sync, GPS, and excessive brightness can really kill your battery.
A quick way to manage these settings is to hold down to add a widget on your home screen and choose [Power Widget].
This stock widget allows you to quickly see the service's your using, and the farthest one to your right allows you to switch between four brightness settings.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Using that new kernel link provided, you'll get a nice boost in standby time too! Enjoy!
Additional battery saving tips:
* Don't use a live wallpapers
* Turn off 3G connectivity (Eclair-based ROMS need apps like APNDroid to do so)
* Turn off Background-enabled data transfers in the Sync page.
the app screebl is a battery saver for whenever you have your screen on.
MOD EDIT:
Screebl Pro is a PAID FOR APP..
Link deleted and warning given please do not post warez in the future.

Yeah, I'm using SetCPU 2.01 with Dan's v1 vanilla froyo fine. When set to use "ondemand" CPU Governor and Autodetect speeds, getting much better battery life - it's only dropping ~1% every hour now EDIT: when idle, of course

Happy to help!
Next thing (when I get around to it) is probably to try out the Conservative CPU Governor module... that will correctly scale CPU power according to load (ie. 245mhz => 384, etc) instead of like On Demand, where it jumps from 245mhz => 998mhz => lower....

Use Taskiller. Red Icon in the market. Free App is the exact same as the paid one. Kills tasks as well but detects tasks that ATK cant. Includes features like End apps once screen turns off and kill all apps 10sec's after boot. Great App IMO.
I've found out that JuiceDefender does a good job as well. If you buy the extension (UltraDefender?) it also has a CPU governer module which regulates your CPU speed based on usage.

No need to pay - as I mentioned before, the "conservative" cpu governor module that is freely available (do a search!) will do exactly what you mentioned when used with SetCPU.
hello.
could you help me to chose economy kernel for my device i9000.
i need more working time on my device.
thx for answers
Well, if you are willing to sacrifice some power you could underclock with Damian's ultimate kernel and as well undervolt (whatever your phone can handle)
apart from changing the kernel, have you tried tasker? this app can really help you to save some battery...
I dont no about Kernels But ive heard 'insanity' ROM is amazing on battery life without losing speed and features.
check for it under development and see what Kernel people are using with it.
i try to underclock CPU but program that i use cant use all frequency only 100 - 500 mhz.
can you give me advice what program can underlock CPU and good task killer.
i need much web serfing

as for now, try damian's kernel, underclocking setting is in the recovery menu. As far as I know, he is working on an app for the new kernel but just try version 1.1

I assume you have already set brightness to minimum, in addition you could use the app "screen filter" which makes the display even darker but then it is only readable in the dark.
Do you set your brightness to automatic ?? thats a big help
As for changing display color i dont know if thats possible, unless you can find a themed version

I ran some test cycles with speedmod and ultimate kernel with both standard file system and converted system. Therefore, I can say that just changing the filesystem does not influence battery life in any way noticeable.

its not MEGA improvement but the donate version has more options. what it does is cuts off all connectivity on screen off, so nothing is being used when it shouldnt be.
its really good IMO, and the partner to the app is 'juice plotter' this will identify what running processes are happening when the phone is idle, allowing you to modify to save battery life a little more. another similar app which is also good but a little hard to understand is 'task identifier' this is similar to juice plotter,
it tells you what apps and processes are starting up automatically. Over night i found 48 processes happening when i was sleeping. THAT drains battery
What exactly are your battery stats?
how long does your phone last on one charge? how long is the display on? how long do you call?

I like speedmod's modification on screen brightness that allows for even lower brightness than I got from voodoo kernel. No idea if other kernel has such feature.
on one full charge i get roughly 2 days.
display is on automatic and i make about 5 - 10 calls a day, and text all day, i manually push emails every few hours and browse the market / xda / youtube for a few hours a day.
Im not a heavy user, but i play alot of games ( especially angry birds ) im more than happy with my battery usage.
Im also on the JQ1 modem, if this is of any use.
If you want to use screen filter, leave the brightness at automatic and it is great in all but the brightest sunlight. I use auto brightness and 60% filter to good effect. You can create a widget, so it can be turned off if required. It also plugs in to Tasker if you want to set up automatic profiles.
Also, the Super Optimized Kernel is worth a look. Each OC/UV value can be completely customized (unlike DamianGTO's kernel, which relies on a series of presets), using the "Voltage Control" app.
I would stay away from Ext4 lagfixes if battery life is of upmost importance. That said I use lagfixes and am torn between JFS and Ext4 with 'unsafe' mount options (selected in recovery). EXT4 with 'safe' mount options uses far too much battery IMO.
JFS is somewhat unstable, and EXT4 'unsafe' can become corrupt after an improper shutdown. The battery life with ext4 'unsafe' is slightly worse than JFS, but you get a corresponding slight increase in performance. Try each for a day if you go that route before choosing, but for the reasons described above be prepared to reflash in case of disaster...
As all our custom roms are in devlopment there is still battery draining issue but i found a some ways to maximise the battery
1 setcpu
use setcpu and set minimum frequency to 128 in stock rom it is set as 245 so change it also i think some of us dont know the profile function in setcpu i have set as when the screen turns off the cpu should run on minimum frequency ie 128
2 titanium backup
use this app to freeze some of the application that starts automatically on startup
you can also use diffrent freezing apps that are available in the market i use this app
3 cyanogenmod settings
in the performance setting disable all the options ie use of jit compiler , surface dithering etc and also set VM heap size to 24 or 16 belive me or not this is not affecting the performance to much extent still i am getting quadrant score greater than 1000
4 use of 3g
with diffrent experiments i have learnt that wifi consumes more battery than 3g i
am also not sure this is true or not
this are some of the setting you can use to increase your battery you can also
use automatic task killer, decrease brightness, turnoff background sync, disabling live wallpaper, use of 2g connections etc etc.
with this setting i am able to save my battery for more than a day
also guys tell me what you do to save your battery
if you like my post pls thank
Its a shame that the battery capacity is too low in these phones. Anyways this is what I do to extend the battery:
1. Use auto-brightness (in froyobread ROM)
2. Use automatic data disabling applications
3. Only 1 application gets internet connection for auto-sync when phone is idle (so the other ones can use that gap to sync too)
That's all.... you may want to set your account auto-sync off... but that's no good if you rely in gmail, google calendar, etc...
I have read somewhere that task killers "kill" the battery!
Don't use them! You'd better use apps like Fast reboot!
And about titanium backup..
Freeze (or delete) the Email.apk not Gmail.apk.
Also the Maps.apk if you don't need it!

Advanced Task Killer does that on my x8.
I use some tips from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726381
and use powermax from the market.
in my experience,in the night my battery 40% left i let my data traffic turned off and 2g only network, i let the music played with phone speaker 50% volume.
im falling a sleep, and in the morning i still hear the music and the battery 8% left.
i use froyobread
Guyz, i found a way which helps increase battery life on CyanogenMod by Marcel(THNX to him).
I was wondering whether an app closes when we press back button,so i needed a task manager, but cyanogen doesn't have a task manager so i downloaded one from market and so many apps were open ,almost all apps were open.
So i killed them all and battery life has pretty much increased since then.
Also i set some profiles in setcpu and in the task manager to kill unnecessary active apps every 30mins.
Both these methods combined....i am getting a good battery life.
However the battery drain on internet still doesn't solve. However the overall battery backup has increased.
Also check this out:Install a task manager(i downloaded advanced task manager)then restart your phone then as soon as the phone starts check out the number of active apps on task manager.Almost all are open.Hope Marcel fixes this bug
My battery now is at 70% after 12 hours from 100%...(i browsed facebook for some time and listend to 12-15 songs on headphone) and that too i didn't charge the 100% fully,so we can hope for more battery backup.

Here u go
One basic point is that Android will automatically open certain apps by default. When you kill these apps the task killers claim they will stay killed but because Android opens them by default they will be launched again so this cycle of killing and re-launching apps will just continue which will use up more battery instead of conserving it.
settings --> applications --> Development --> Stop app via long-press.
You can always chek this option, so you know that you close all applications everytime you use them.
I will recomend you Auto Memory Manager. You can modify the values in that android stars to close process.
Y use it on agressive mode, and always have around 80-90 mb free of RAM memory (less apps open == fasther phone == less memory used
Sorry for my english,
i think using task killers is not a good idea.
we can use task manager (default app) it is better than any other app
