CRT animation for new framework? - Droid X General

Does anyone have the zip file for the CRT animation for the new framework? The old one will just revert the framework back to the older version

When you say "the old one", are you referring to this .zip?
Gingerbread 2.3 CRT Animation .zip

I loaded the same one that I saved from the previous leak and it only loaded the screen off animation. No other changes were made that I have noticed.

Yes that is the one I was talking about haha it's not really old but things move fast. Wouldn't this be similar to flashing a theme? And when you flash an older theme to a new rom, it would revert the rom back to the older version. Wouldn't the same thing happen with this?

If by "similar to flashing a theme" you mean "instaling a .zip through ClockworkMod Recovery", then yes, it is. The exact same actually.
Download the .zip I posted to the root of your SD card. Boot into CWMR *USING THE DROID 2 BOOTSTRAP APP, NOT THE DROID X BOOTSTRAP APP*, and install the zip from SD card as you would any other theme.

No that's not what I'm talking about at all. I was talking about when you flash a theme with older framework to a newer rom. The framework reverts to the older version and you go back to the older version of a rom. That's what I was asking about. Please read the whole thing next time

[z4mod] For Captivate Froyo 2.2! (Similar to Voodoo)

So, over in the i9000 forum z4ziggy has been working on z4mod, it is similar to Voodoo, it completely replaces the file system with ext*.
Check out the original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797672
Currently our kernel only supports ext2, which is sad, but here is the patched kernel, apply it with odin in the PDA slot.
Download kernel (Froyo 2.2):
http://www.multiupload.com/N1OUL0ZYYN
Download Odin:
http://www.multiupload.com/KK1GOK9SYT
Next you will need to run this zip from rom manager, the patched kernel has a borked version of 2e recovery that doesnt let you select anything, so if it fails, you will need to reboot and try again with rom manager.
Download EXT2 zip:
http://www.sgscompilebox.dreamhosters.com/files/z4mod.ext2.update.zip
If you want to revert back for whatever reason, just use this.
Revert Back to RFS:
http://www.sgscompilebox.dreamhosters.com/files/z4mod.rfs.update.zip
Enjoy!
If you post quadrant scores I will hunt you down and slap you with a very large trout!!
woah this is cool
Nice,
Thank you
dg always has the new toys
i am going to give this a try right now.

Should mention somewhere that this is for 2.2 DG.
is the patched kernel for froyo? i can see that the patch will work on froyo or eclair but you posted a pre-patched kernel, or am i misunderstanding something?
edit, i see. nevermind i missed the froyo in parenthesis

I tried going into CW recovery and mine when it rebooted to go into recovery it errored out and i couldn't get back into the OS. I had to redo my ROM again just FYI. Not sure why it wouldn't load back.
Do you know why my CW wouldn't load DG? Not sure how to apply the fix if I can't get into CW recovery.

Yup, when I slap them with the trout their **** will splatter all over!!!
Apparently, if you've deleted Touchwiz and replaced it with LP, it won't work. Boots up pretty damn fast and the drop down menu has absolutely no lag!!! That's all I've been able to test ATM. Flashing back to stock, then back to Cog2.2B2.
is this going to give us any real world performance increases? and no.. I'm not going to run around posting screenshots. besides, with the years I spent on IRC, I've been trouted enough times to know it's SHTANKY!
OMG I GOT OVER 9000 IN QUADRANT WITH THIS FIX! OMGOMGOMGOMG!
**eyeroll** =P
I flashed the kernel with Odin then tried to apply the .zip with rom manager.
It failed. Now my phone keep on booting into the recovery screen...and i cant make it reboot regularly to try again.
Help?
omg i got the same problem!!! help!
I fixed it. I just flashed the PDA from my version of Cognition (v6). Now it rebooted into recovery, only this time it worked.
Successfully updated it, but it seems to have no Android Market app???? I installed my TiBu of Appbrain, but it says I can't download anything without having Android Market installed. Have an .apk for that DG? Or anyone for that matter? Other than that, it is pretty quick

Download recovery.
Reboot into recovery.
If it doesn't go into Clockwork (green screen) automatically, just in regular recovery, select reinstall packages. Should reboot into Clockwork.
Thanks, i think my problem was that i had never gone into clockwork mod recovery before. With the modified kernel it is impossible to reinstall packages. I flashed to cog 2.2 kernel then reinstalled packages. Then flashed back to modified kernel. Now it should work.
EDIT: Worked

Flash custom recovery on an already rooted Aria with clockworks recovery?

is it possible to switch to another custom recovery after I already got clockworks?
I tried unrevoked but its stuck in the reboot (I believe its trying to root my aria again)
not sure what youre trying to do.... i believe Clockwork is the only Recovery for rooted phones. if you want to flash a custom ROM, well that is something else altogether. please be specific as to what you want to flash to the phone. include a link to the flash too
I was trying to flash psfreedom recovery rom from here
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_Aria
I believe the method on that website was for unrooted arias without clockworks

To flash a different custom recovery on your Aria, you need to rename the zip file LIBEIMG.ZIP on the SD card and boot in HBOOT (Power on the phone by holding down VOL DOWN and the Power Button). When it boots to the HBOOT screen you should see text stating that it found LIBEIMG.ZIP and is installing it.
awesome. now before I go ahead, is there any clockworkx recovery image I can revert back to?

I'm curious, what recovery are you talking about?
thanks for including the link. the instructions are clear.... Root IS required, Clockwork recovery is recommended, the Freedom Aria flash appears to be a custom ROM.
once the phone is Rooted, boot into Recovery, make a Nandroid backup, and flash downloaded zip file from SD card.
if you need help Rooting, there is all sorts of good methods available on this site. I use the Unrevoked method myself, but it works best on Linux or Mac OS

hmm I think you are looking at the old method which is a custom rom
The new one is a custom recovery which brings me to the question as I dont think you can flash a custom recovery in the clockwork custom recovery.
its possible im looking at the wrong thing, but far as i can tell it states "Recovery Custom ROM" which is totally different from Custom Recovery ROM
From link posted above:
"Update can be installed in recovery mode in Psfreedom settings menu via Update (local) or Update (net) if you have configured your wifi connection. Put the file on your SDCARD and install it.
Download Recovery custom rom : http://alephzain.klutsh.com/aria-recovery.tgz "

I have similar questions. I was trying to update my version of clockwork also using unrevoked again, but couldn't get it to work. I guess my questions are:
1. Is there any benefit in updating to a newer version of clockwork? My current version is 2.0.x.x and I believe the latest one is 2.5.0.4.
2. Will this same method work to do so? Can I rename the latest clockwork .zip file like this and get it updated?
I thought using the flash clockwork option in ROM Manager would do it, but it doesn't. If I reboot from ROM Manager it goes to the newer version, but if I reboot otherwise it goes to my original. The couple times I've used it, there appears to be maybe some different features/options in the newer one and I feel like I might be missing out on something!
What's the difference with this recovery?

These are probably two different things. once you got the recovery rom flashed you can upgrade it in recovery mode (hence its different from original clockwork recovery)
Ok bro, I didn't see much info about it so I'm gonna take your word for it.
@brswattt, far as I can tell this is " basically" used for jailbreaking the ps3.
@armyengineer;
you can use unrEVOked to flash the new recovery. if youre a Windows user, download the unrEVOked tool and run the .exe as Administrator. also make sure there are no conflicting s/w on the PC such as HTC Sync and you have all the drivers installed(HBoot, ADB drivers, etc.)
for more info about the PSFreedom Recovery, check out THIS Thread HERE
unrevoked keeps giving me
couldnt find misc
error, is there any other way to flash a recovery?

This still isn't working for me. Everything appears to go well at the start, then I get:
Waiting for root...(safe to restart if this doesn't work)
At which point the only way I can restart is to pull my battery. After doing so, it reboots and I get:
This was a triumph
It is not, however, any such thing. After another minute I get this:
Internal error: couldn't find misc.
So I've still got my original version of clockwork, 2.0.1.3, despite the fact that ROM Manager is telling me I have 2.5.0.1. I'm obviously missing something here.
BTW, if it matters I'm running CM 6.1.0

Although there is a ClockworkMod 2.5.0.4 version, I don't think it is for the Aria. According to ClockworkMod ROM Manager, 2.5.0.1 is the most current one for the Aria so I am believing what ROM Manager is telling me since it is written by the same the vendor.
I have tried CM 6.1.0
original HTC Aria 2.1 International Rom
and FR001 RC1
all no go. I think it has something to do with the phone already been rooted and has clockworks installed which makes unrevoked unhappy

OK, let's start from the beginning. You asked about installing an alternate recovery (PSFreedom recovery), but apparently it has its own installation procedure that needs to be run on an unrooted Aria.
What you need is to find just the PSFreedom recovery and copy it to your SD called in a file called LIBEIMG.ZIP and that is how you need to install it on a root phone that has ClockworkMod. Perhaps you need to go back to the PSFreedom thread and ask if a LIBEIMG.ZIP can be produced that can be flashed from HBOOT to replace ClockworkMod.
Looks like everything you need is located in the PSFreedom wiki:
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_Aria
I got a recovery.bin which is suppose to be used with unrevoked.
are you talking about the same one if I just compress it into a zip file?

Request for boot animation

A friend of mine with a Droid 1 is running a rom called project elite. He showed me a boot animation that's part of the rom that started with an Apple logo, then it zoomed out and had the android robot eating it. Was brilliant.
Anyone know where I can get it or how I can get this on my Fascinate?
Download the ROM, extract the bootanimation.zip file from it (look in system/media) and put it in the /system/media folder on your phone. If you post the zip here, I'm sure someone could make a CWM zip for you to make it easier to put on your phone. Also, if there is a sound with it, look for that as well, system/etc/PowerOn.wav if it's in the same place that our boot sound is at.
Thanks! I'll see if I can get the zip from him. The rom has the setting built in to choose what boot animation you wanna use, and there were like seven included with it. Would that make it harder to extract the one I want? I assume there would be multiple ones packaged in there

I want that animation! In answer to your question it should not pose to be more difficult, but it may add for some good extra animations.
i used to beta for project elite ...let me know if you cant get out of the rom ...ill get them directly from the dev
edit: get the cwm version below
Here's a CWM zip for it. Only change is that I removed the Thumbs.db file from the zip let me know if it doesn't work.
You're awesome, imnuts. Was going get on this today, but you beat me to it and then some.
The zip worked fine and the boot animation is great, by the way. Thanks again

install with CWR.
Does the zip file need to be on the root of the sd card ?
Tried to install from Clockwork Recovery
Used "install zip from sdcard" and navigated to the zip file
Install shows complete but it is still the same old boot animation.
Running DB-DO froyo and have updated CWM
Thanks for any help
I absolutely love this boot animation, thanks!
so after digging around a few different places it looks like the EB01 kernel doesn't support the boot and shutdown animations. waiting on release of source code so we can have a custom kernel ?
zipgunjny:
Are you running the stock eb01? JT has a "hack" that he used to enable the boot animations for the custom roms. Follow imnuts instructions on where the bootanimation.zip is located.
Its the debloated-deodexed eb01. Searched for jt's hack without any luck. Any hints on finding it? Thanks again for the help. Tired of the verizon boot and shutdown animations

Any ideas or suggestions? I'm new to this stuff. I'm rooted with 2.1 firm and 2.6.29 kernel. Haven't really modded much except for moving some bloat apps to my SD card
this is awesome! thank you.
-now kind of off topic, but will this work on the SGS Captivate as well, or should I have one of the dev's in their forum answer that for me?

Need a favor

Can someone do me a favor and check on root explorer for pre install/and see if you have a recovery. Zip file in the pre install section. I wanna know if I need it there because I have a problem updating to 2.3 and it might be that
yes. in /preinstall/recovery there is a recovery.zip file
just follow these instructions and you wont have any problems http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...3-3-4-5-588-install-patch-root.html#post68035

yes, that file is part of koush's bootstrap install. not sure if it's ok to delete. why would you want to? what problem are you having?
because i keep getting an error when trying to install the ota gingerbread (not the leaked version) using stock recovery it says "error apply patch check system/bin/logwrapper" and i never flashed a rom on my phone or anything like that the only thing that my phone gave me trouble with was koushs bootstrap when trying to remove it cause it would always come up when i would boot up my phone. i fixed that problem using root explorer. although i deleted logwrapper from the preinstall section on accident thinking it was the system/bin/logwrapper which was the one i had to delete

[Q] Flashing corrections to roms?

Hi.
A number of times I have seen instructions where one is supposed to first flash a rom (NativeSD in my case), and then to flash a correction. Should the correction be flashed in the same way as the original rom, or should it be done differently? When is "recovery mode" used?
I also saw a case where one was supposed to change a rom by flashing a correction before installing this rom (an Xperia modificarion of Tytung's Nexus ICS rom). How is this done?
All instructions should be clear in the OP. If a .zip is provided and you know that you're supposed to flash that after flashing a ROM, then select install .zip from SD card in CWM and flash it.

No, just use whatever recovery you have installed. I have a habit of saying CWM since that's the only recovery I've ever used.

Thanks. In other words, the short answer to my first question is simply "yes". And the word "recovery" is used to refer to the various programs that can be used to flash the roms and also flash patches.
I now understand better what is going on, after looking at the contents of some of the patches that I was interested in. In the old unix days I would have made these changes by simply editing the appropriate text files directly. But I guess that is a no-no today. And I have not been able to figure out how to run Emacs in su mode on my phone.
