GPS and Brazil Maps For Tomtom

I live in Brazil and I'm thinking about buying a P3600. Do I have to check something on the phone to see if it has GPS capability or all P3600 has, if I update the firmware?
Other question is about the GPS software... I think that Tomtom don't have Brazil maps. Is there another GPS Navigation software that you recomend?
Is there a GPS program for smartphone just with basic GPS functions, such as, showing speed, coordinates, points to a specific coordinate, and things like that?
Thanks,
Cesar
No tomtom but destinator
I use Destinator for Brasil tomtom has no maps as far I now for Brasil Destinator is limited aswell for just a few places, if you want to now mor about it just drop me a email.
Willem
All P3600 have hardware GPS capability, although you may need to update the firmware.
As Wilsas said, Destinator is the only WM software which has maps of Brazil. Last vesion maps (2007.Q2.0) only cover estados do Rio, São Paulo, Minas, região Sul, and a few cities in Nordeste.
For more basic GPS software, you may want to have a look at VitesseLimite, and SirGPSTweaker, for GPS basic data extraction.

Orbit2-- GPS cannot be detected with IGO PLS HELP?!?!?

Orbit2-- GPS cannot be detected with IGO PLS HELP?!?!?
I have a HUGE problem with getting my GPS running on my Orbit2. It came from O2 with CoPilot7 preinstalled with the maps of UK and Ireland, which I dont use, because I am not located inthere, nevertheless Copilot detects GPS signal and shows positioning, but i dint have the maps for the area that i am in.
I tried to install IGO6 and then IGO8 but I have the same problem-- it cannot detect GPS device, no matter what which COMM Port and BAUD Rate I select.
How come CoPilot detects, and IGO does not? I read that Orbit2 is not locked?!?
Should I boot the whole device using some other ROM.
This may be a silly question but, have you configured the GPS in iGO?
So you are not in Europe? I ask because the CoPilot Disk allows any country (or the whole) of europe (or is that just western, can't remember).
IGO has an option to auto detect the best settings, that is what you should use.
I use IGo with Orbit2 and it works!
Use Autodetection or set the Com-Port to 4 and Baud to 57600...

TomTom

TomTom 6 is not working - do I really have to buy TT/ and all new maps ??????
If yes is there any better navigation software out ?
TomTom 7 for Windows Mobile is currently only available pre-installed on some of the HTC phones. You can't buy this software. At least not yet. Their hotline said that it will be available for other PDAs/Smartphones, but it's still unknown for which and when.
"iGo My Way" is an alternative.
Are you using igo on Xperia ? Is is an online software or do I have ti buy the maps ? How about TMC ?
Thanks !
I still don't have Xperia (should arrive today) and after them I'll try iGo.
It works exactly like TomTom, no online connection is needed.
In terms of interface and fexibility (options) iGo should be better than TomTom, but there were complaints about routing quality, so I'm not sure.
It has TMC but I doubt that it would work on X1 without additional hardware (special TMC receiver).
Actually, TT7 works on Xperia as well... but that can't be discussed here.... ;-)
Can you please send me a private message ref. TT7
Can I use the maps from TT6 with TT7 ?
no
and don't ask about warez.
iGo requires use of their specific MicroSD card though, right? You can't put it on a 8gb card so that you can also have music and videos on the device.
Anyway, sucks that TomTom 6 doesn't work. I believe there are no maps for TomTom 7 available for purchase yet anyway.
iThink (have heard somewhere) that it's possible to copy iGo to internal memory of a PDA or phone or to any memory card (eg. to a 8/16GB microSD). Then you have to call hotline and they will give you inbstructions how to re-activate the software. One time it should be possible and legal.
So we really don`t know by experience which GPS software is the best for XPERIA or ?
Is this IGO idea with the special card right ?

From TomTom 6 to Navigon?

I'm not sure if TomTom Navigation 6 will be working on Touch HD. As the new HTC comes without TomTom 7 pre-installed, which obviously cannot be bought from a retailer, I have to look for a new navigation software. Will Navigon be working on the new device?
It is certainly a good idea to choose a navi software from a company that has a commitment to PDA navigation, and hence new maps and mapshare-like offerings will be compatible. TT does not in general, but currently has a deal in place to provide navi software and updates for selected HTC devices only (Diamond, Raphael). But only with V7 maps, the latest V8-maps are not offered. And if you want TT7 for your HD, you have to revert to the underground
But let me point out to Sygic Drive, a fine navi soft from Slovakia, sold as McGuider by TT-owned company TeleAtlas. http://www.sygic.com/
