Call Tmobile?
I have that too, but I got my texting plan 2 years ago, so it might not be around anymore. To my knowledge, with the new plans, you have to have data for MMS.
Yes, on Tmobile you can send MMS w/o data plan. You must have the correct settings under the Cellular Data Network. Use MMS APN: wap.voicestream.com
Google for a Tmobile MMS fix for IOS 4. Good luck & have fun.

on a rooted one I believe it does as you can spoof the STOCK sms/ mms app to use an user agent like Nokia n95 or blackberry 8xxx, both of those phones use the regular texting plan to send and receive MMS. I did this with my mytouch 3g since like cyanogen mod 4-6...
btw you will have to change your APN settings to match that of a regular no data required phone.

are you on a vanilla rom or cooked rom? if you're on a cooked rom then use the stock sms app..(AOSP roms) hit menu> settings> Custom user agent and click blackberry 8800 (that way you can use the regular edge network to send MMS) and your pictures won't be compressed
edit: make sure your data network is turned on. Otherwise when you toggle data it also disables the MMS settings.

looks like an AOSP rom so you should be able to spoof the MMS settings using the stock sms app. some market sms apps might be able to spoof the sms agent, but I am not sure since I only use the stock android messaging app.

I think this depends on your carrier's apn settings.
On Orange in the UK, I have separate apns for data and mms, so I can disable or enable them separetely.
Other carriers use a single apn for both however.
there is no way to do this because of the way android uses access points. i know, i want to do this too. i dont like how android only has either on or off data. other phones, like my symbian devices for example, data only turns on when you open an app that needs data. and when you close that app the data session terminates, which saves a tremendous amount of battery life.
android on the other hand keeps an always-on data connection, no matter what, even when the phone is not doing anything or using any data. this is why android devices get such poor battery life compared to other devices.
yah. in settings, theres only 1 apn for t-mobile. thats sucks. some ppl said apndroid works but i cant seem to figure out a way to make it not go on net while allowing mms. that sux. =3 was soo hoping i can use mms now since my old 1st gen iphone couldnt
thats kinda stupid too cuz im tryin to accept pictures which should theoretically count as just messages or counted under the texting plan (unlimited for me) but the phone uses "data" to download it.
I don't see the point on using mms at all in smartphones, it is so much easier to just attach the picture to an email.
Well, for me at least, since my carrier gives me unlimited data an no mms at all. But still, its been ages I don't get an mms from someone.
Back to the topic, unless you have separated apn for data and mms there's no way to disable one and keep the other. At least I don't know how.

I'm pretty sure if you create a APN with only the MMS settings, and set it as MMS type, it should only do mms.
OP, have you called your carrier and asked them for proper APN settings for what you want to to do?

i dont think that will work. he currently has mms working fine. this is a limitation with android OS. for example symbian you can turn off the data connection, and when an mms comes in, the data turns on and retrieves the message, then closes the data connection. android cannot do this. with android data is either on completely, all the time, or off completely all the time. and since mms grabs the pic via the data connection, it wont work if data is turned off.

i stand corrected, i was wrong i thought it was tied to the system data connection.
Yeah, just create a second APN and set its type to 'mms'. Keep your main one as type 'default, supl'. That way, you can disable your main APN and your MMS will still work fine (if that's what you want)
when i change the 2nd one to mms, i lose the dot next to the APN to enable it? i tried deleting the 1st apn but i cant recieve again
umm im confused what are you trying to do? receive mms? i have the 10 tmobile data plan and what i did was change the default apn name to
T-Mobile US-MMS
then the apn type to
mms
create a second apn and name it
T-Mobile US

I cannot seem to send any MMS messages with any Android rom I try. I have tried just about every different setting with no luck. Could this have anything to do with my windows based rom that's on the phone or does anyone have any ideas?
You need to program your carriers MMS APN. Google will serve you there. Apn is under settings, wireless and networks, apn when you see T-Mobile or whatever press menu, new apn and find android mms values for your carrier last entry should be mms and there shouldn't be any button to select new apn in the list.

Hi MrBox23, maybe you can give me a suggestion regarding mms apn problem.
I can receive a message that reports me I got a mms with a button to download it... the only way I found to download it is to remove the internet apn parameters and leave only the mms parameters.
Same thing for outgoing mms.
Is there any solution to this problem???
I searched around but with no success....
I don't know make sure apn is labeled mms mine coexist just fine mms has no button.
There needs to be two apns one for internet one for mms that's the way simple mobile is anyway tmobile should be same format idont know about att

It could be that your MMS settings are incorrect. Have you checked to see if that's the case?

No you don't. You just have to have the right settings. How do you think picture messages were sent before data plans were available? The correct settings should be in a middle post on the link below. I used this on my GN before I had a data plan.

I can't send MMS on T-Mobile either. Glad it just wasn't me. I was able to receive just fine though.
Also, to clarify, you do NOT need a data plan to use MMS. With that said, MMS does rely on data to send.
Ok so from all the mixed responses I'm reading is that you don't need a data plan, but you need data to send/receive MMS. So if you receive or send you will get charged for the data that's been used for the MMS?
And what monk4life said was true. I didn't need data on the older phones I had in order to send receive MMS.
I'm so confused, everyone's saying different things

It still uses data but you won't get charged for it as it is only used for MMS purposes.
OK just to clarify and end this thread.
1) you do not need a data plan for MMS.
2) MMS uses data so you must have data enabled on your phone (in the settings of the phone).
3) You will not get charged for using data when sending/receiving MMS.

I did not miss anything seeing how I do not have your issue, so your comment is FALSE! Just because YOU cant get it to work doesn't mean it is not working for everyone else.
The Stock messaging app works just fine for me sending and receiving mms on my N4 using T-Mobile without a data plan. You must have a wrong setting somewhere for your APN or make sure you have not disabled data completely. Or your not using the stock messaging app which could also be causing it as stated in the post above mine.

You wanted to end this thread because you clarified MMS does not require a data plan. However, the OP was about MMS not sending, not whether it uses data. Fortunately, the post above your post gave me a working solution. I had been using GoSMS.
Hopefully, this fixes the problem for the OP as well. Just gotta report this to GoSMS so they can update their app now.
Does anyone have a working apn setting that allows mms to be received without a data connection on Rogers?

Yeah I always found that odd. I know dumb phones without data that could do it but for some reason Android devices required a data connection for MMS.
Some people have managed to receive mms without a data plan on other carriers, im just wondering what the apn settings would be for Rogers.

THIS IS A UNIVERSAL MMS CRICKET FIX...IT SHOULD WORK FOR MANY PHONES ON CRICKET!
I managed to find a temp mms solution for my Note 3 on Cricket wireless if you don't feel comfortable editing your build prop, or using root explorer yourself. YOU MUST HAVE TALK, TEXT, & WEB ON YOUR PHONE FOR THIS TO WORK!
This requires using two apps:
Chomp SMS to send mms(cant seem to get it to work on receiving)
Universal CKT app to receive which i provided (force closes when i try to send a mms not sure why)
First off make sure you disable any of your messaging apps "Auto Retrieve MMS" (i dont think it matters but I just have it that way)
Next: you will need to download chomp SMS from the Play store, once you install it open it and go under Settings>SMS & MMS Network Settings> go down to MMS Network Settings tab and click on APN Settings
Next step enter these exact settings:
MMSC: http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy: wap.mycricket.com
MMS Port: 8080
After you've entered them go back, and go down to "Send Size Limit" and choose 300KB & below that check the box on Delivery Report (not mandatory but shows when they receive it)
Now download and install the Universal CKT App which i provided with any file manager
and open the Universal CKT App, go to settings and enable Auto Retrieve MMS (once again i dont think it matters but I just have it that way)
Now try sending a mms using Chomp SMS(sender app)
and use the Universal CKT app to receive or download it (receiver app)
If Chomp SMS failed to send make sure you are sending with your wifi turned off & double check you APN settings
IF FOR SOME REASON YOUR APN SETTINGS ARE NOT STICKING ON CHOMP SMS, ENTER THEM WITH YOUR WIFI DISABLED..AND ALWAYS DISABLE IT WHEN SENDING A MMS

hey this actually worked perfectly. The only "problem" I guess you can say is that now I have two messaging apps, the regular one and this one. Is there a way to replace the regular one with this one? Or can I just delete the regular one, which (I'm guessing) would force the cricket mms to act as the default app? Thanks in advance.
