Found a Bug for all EC05 Phones.. - Epic 4G General

Hello,
there is a small bug that many users may not have noticed in EC05. When I want to set a custom ringtone for a contact with a custom sound, it force closes and says android.acore.process is not responding.
Can someone fix this?
Thanks
The way to replicate this bug is to go on contacts, select a contact, edit contact, set a custom ringtone, and press sound. It will force close.

Sounds like you got some bad data...
mine works perfect...

No crash for me. Do you have the MyFiles app removed?

i have that removed and mine has always had that removed and mine always has worked
i think he needs to wipe the contacts data...
Goto: Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Contacts/Clear Data..
As long as you have them synced with google you shouldnt have to worry about if they get deleted...
Edit:
Just saw how to replicate it, and yes it does fc, a simple way to avoid this is too not click sounds and click ringtones instead...

Does the FC error happen with your mp3 sound files or all of your sound files. I personally use .ogg sound files and I have zero issues. I was having FC issues with some mp3 files especially if they are larger mp3 files.

It doesnt have to do with the sound files it has to do with the option sounds in contact custom ringtone, it force closes, like i said if u dont push it and push ringtones instead u are set for what ever files u please..

Sounds like you deleted drm files
Sent from Snarf high on SRF 1.02 till freezes are fixed

Try recreating my scenario and tell me what you discover.

I just copied a mp3 file into my media/audio/ringtone and I played it with my settings/sounds/Voice call ringtone and I always get this error message [Activity Android System (in process Settings) is not responding] it will play the music but afterward you can not play another file after it, instead your phone will temporary lock up and then the following error message will appear [Activity Android System (in process Settings) is not responding]. I can not afford for my phone to lock up because during a phone call because I use my phone to help me pay my bill and not as a toy. If my phone locks up my client will us call the next person in line.
P.S. Are you trying this or are you going by what android should do?
I am using the Midnight Rom 5.2 Standard Edition and my DRM files are frozen with Titanium Backup.
I just unfroze the DRM and I still get the same error message. All I my ogg files work perfectly find only that one mp3 file freezes my phone why is that?

I can do that now try selecting another file after that file and see what happens. All I am trying to do is get to the truth of the matter. Is this problem with just my phone or other phones too. I want my phone to play the MP3 ring tone and then afterward do something else. Not have my phone play the ring tone and then lock up afterward.
My phone plays mp3's as ring tones but, it locks up afterward making the notification useless because when my phone does unfreeze the phone stops ring tone and I can not receive the phone call.
I want to play mp3 files as ring tones but having my phone perform at it's optimal level is more important to me than a cute ring tone especially if I can convert the mp3 file into a smaller ogg file anyways. I just lose the sound quality put gain a phone that is 100% reliable.
If this is a problem maybe the developers can fix it and make it more stable.

Can't change sms notification tone

Even after a factory reset my phone is not allowing me to change the sms notification tone. It always plays the 'alpha' tone. I have the main notification setting set to 'gamma' and the notification setting under messages set to 'gamma' as well. Am I missing something?
OMG, I was starting to feel like I was alone on this one, as I've had this problem since day one and nobody has said anything abt it. I'm on my second phone and still having the same problem. The notification tone for sms just doesn't change from alpha. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.
This is my very first android phone BTW (coming from a BB8900) and I absolutely love it. I feel like I've invested too much time on this phone to exchange it and start all over again, so I'm just putting up with it. Plus its a $10 restocking fee every time.

I actually have kind of the same issue, but with a twist. I can change the sound except for one contact. With this contact it plays a song from my sd card. I've looked everywhere and can't figure out where the heck its defined.
Its not enough for me to return it and I'm hoping loading a new rom and it will fix it.
How goofy.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yes, I have the same problem. What's odd is that I do remember that gamma would play for a few messages earlier on. But, now it's all alpha.
Another very odd oddity which I think is kind of odd is that for some odd reason, calls get the vibrate treatment, but not always. I have vibrate for incoming calls unchecked, but yet the thing vibrates on calls at times. Odd.
Mines doing the same thing! It really bothers me, but its big the alpha tone. I was thinking a new ROM would fix it as well. Hope it does!

i recently got my mytouch 4g and i also cant' change my sms tone, idk maybe we're missing something but has anyone found out how we can change it.
Well, I took my phone to a T-Mobile store and had a rep check it out. He couldn't get the sms notification tone to change either and offered to exchange it for another phone. Guess what...the new phone does the same thing. I'm just going to deal with it for now and hope someone finds a fix for it.
I solved my issue.
On my sd card I had folders from my Nexus One that included music. Somehow it was picking this song. I moved the folder to the root level of the sd card and now it plays the correct notification sound.
For those keeping score at home. I had a folder named "music" in the sdcard/media/audio folder along with two folders named "ringtones" and "notifications".

No problems here, but I just wish we could pick the default Froyo notification tone. None of the tones included with the MT4G sound very good (at least to me).
SOLVED. There seems to be a bug when selecting the notification ringtone in Messages. When 'default ringtone' is selected as the ringtone in Messages, alpha is always used, despite having set the default notification in Settings -> Sound -> Notification sound to something other than 'alpha'.
So, Messages seems to ignore the default notification ringtone setting. To counter that, simply select the ringtone you want in Messages manually, that is, don't rely on the 'default ringtone' setting.
I'm glad you solved it, but I have had 2 different notification sounds set from the get go, on in the default, and one in the messaging app. neither of them are set on Alpha, but it always plays Alpha anyways.
I just deleted everything media off of my SDcard, rebooted, now just waiting for a text lol

Are you sure? If you have Google Voice, you can just send a text to your T-Mobile number to test.
heyy! That was a good idea! I sent a text to my phone using my computer. and BING. it worked with a different sound. I don't know what exactly is causing this problem, but after I took off the folder that Ringdroid created with all my custom alarm/text/ringtones, the phone changed the tone. weird.
EDIT: well the tone changed, yes, but its not using the tone that I set through the messaging app its self. Its using the default notification instead selected in the settings instead. -.-
I just realized the phone uses default tones when the sd card its mounted to my pc. D'oh.
After I unplugged the usb cable, presto, back to the sounds I selected. I wonder if I can copy my custom sounds to the phones filesystem and not have to worry about this?

I use Ringo Lite to choose my ringtones and text notification tones for each of my contacts. Works great and it's free

Most likely. Can't you copy them to the system ringtones directory?
I have this same problem. It only plays alpha. My default notification is epsilon in settings, and in the message-settings it is epsilon also :/
I haven't fixed the problem yet. But another simple way around it is by using chomp sms or handcent. I dont like using replacement apps =l
EDIT: or sms pop up, which is what I'm using right meow

This is the WRONG answer. Tested it and your solutions fails. Manually doesn't change anything the true solution is to delete the folder that your third party app made on the SD card. To test just take out the SD card from phone and you'll see how all the ringtones work perfectly as stated by Mr_Skot above.
TRUE SOLUTION: REMOVE SD CARD TO TEST, DELETE SOUND FOLDERS FROM SD CARD AS PER MR_SKOT that's the true solution THANK YOU! this was driving me INSANE!

Clock app crash? It's actually a ring tone bug!

Every time I open the clock app and try to set an alarm the app crashes. It freezes and the just says "Clock has stopped". I´ve tried to clear cache and restarted the phone twice, still doesn't work.
Anyone else having the same problem and have a solution for it?
Thanks!

got any solution?
Not a solution but it is worth cleaning all the alarms setup (if there are any).
Going to settings/More/Date and Time and changing the auto time on/off, time zone on/off and the other settings. I.e. just changing everything to manual or to auto dependant on your current settings to see if that helps reset something.
Worth a try before a reset at least.
Battery out for a min and restart too maybe?
I did a factory reset a couple of hours ago. When I first started the clock app worked like a charm, and I thought everything was back to normal. BUT!
When I changed the ringt one to one of my mp3s on the phone (selecting via settings and then ES File Explorer) the clock problem started again! When I try to change ring tone again back to one of Androids, the green android-guy under ring tone, the phone stops and a pop up that says "The process android.process.media has been stopped" shows up.
I have no idea how to "undo" it again. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do? Just re-installed like 80 apps and set my phone back to normal again, and changing my ring tone was like the last thing, and that just F'ed everything up.
It doesn't bother me That much since I can use another ring tone and set my alarms with the "AlarmClock Plus"-app. But it's still anyoing as hell and I would really like to solve it!

***UPDATE***
Got it to work by having my Mp3-song selected as ring tone, and then move it to another folder. Both the clock and the ring tone-changer works fine now.
Now I just need to come up with a way to ge my ring tone back
EDIT: I solved it by making my Mp3-file into a Wav-file. Don't know if it's just that file or all Mp3-files. Cased closed for my problem at least, woho!

This trick of moving the bad ringtones to another folder worked and saved me tons of work if I had to factory reset the thing. One small addendum, after moving the files I had to clear data and cache for the clock app before it allowed me to create or edit an alarm again.

This part didn't work for me. My own ringtones were .ogg files and even when I converted them to .wav files, both the clock app and the android ringtone selector kept crashing. I set my own ringtones using the ES File Explorer too, maybe, just maybe something went wrong there or maybe the files were simply too big in size. I don't know.
However, I did solve my problem in the following way:
1) having root access is necessary for this method to work
2) using a root-enabled file explorer or using a root-enabled terminal to copy your own ringtones to /system/media/audio/ringtones, /system/media/audio/notifications or /system/media/audio/alarms respectively.
3) chmod 644 for these new files (not sure if this is really needed, but I guess it can't hurt)
4) reboot the phone (absolutely necessary as apparently it loads all available sound files at boot time only)
5) set your ringtones for any apps using the android ringtone selector. Your own ringtones should now appear in this list.

Wow thanks that worked. ... nice...!!!! Thanks +1
I had the same issues. In my opinion "ES Browser" was the reason for this bug. To fix it, i removed "media storage"-app. After a few reboots all libraries (Pictures, Music...) got filled again.
Clock and ringtone now working again.
I Know its an old thread, but i was having trouble with my Galaxy s6 clock.
I solved the Problem by changing the theme. Propably it will work for you aswell

Text messaging is losing the custom ringtone I set

Hey y'all,
As the title says, I have set a custom MP3 as a notification tone to receive when I get text messages, but, for some reason, this gets lost every-so-often. The MP3 file is just one second long (MGS alert tone, if anyone is interested) and on previous phones has been the text alert of choice.
However, I can't see a pattern here, but every few days or so I will get a text that does not have a tone, then in settings it tells me I have an 'Unknown Ringtone' and I have to reset it again. I have used file commander to set the tone.
Any ideas?
Cheers
For me, it was the fact that my ringtones were on the sd card. Once I moved them to the internal, it stopped. (Or rather, it hasnt happened to it again since)

Add my own notification sounds

Anybody figured out how to do this? I can add my own ringtones easy enough but don't see an easy way for my own notification sounds, I can't even find were the originals are stored!
just drop the notification sounds you want into /sdcard/Notifications. You can also drop custom alarm sounds into /sdcard/Alarms and ringtones into /sdcard/Ringtones.
Install zedge

Ok, haven't got my sdcard yet, its on order, will try that then.
But I have the sounds that I want on my phone, I just can't get them into the list of notification sounds listed
Even if you haven't gotten your microsd card, you'll still have an /sdcard folder. It's the root of your internal storage.
Used Zedge download onto my Macbook, took a Scan of the QR Image with my S7 E and downloaded the ringtones I wanted. Worked great on everything except Textra, which is the messaging app I use

I clicked and held for 10 seconds a checked box appears you got song selected, then upper co rner I clicked more, clicked copy, and it opened a "Copy To screen" and three options I had device storage, sad card, notifications which I clicked then clicked done and song was there

How did you manage to move the files? I've run into the same problem as yourself, 3rd party file explorer couldn't write to the directory......
Same issue with s7. Created file. It's my files>sd card>ringtones. Still only tones phone came with. Under ringtones I have add from device storage as an option, but not for any others. Pls help.
Zedge worked for me, Awesome. Thanks.
