Fix Data Connection Issue? - Atrix 4G General

Im sure we all know that the atrix has serious data connection issues. Mine disconnects all the time. Motorola has promised an update, but god knows when that is. I was wondering if there is anyone here who've tried to fix this? You guys are probably smarter than Motorola anyways.

Pretty sure this is the wrong section to post this question, but anyway, mine hasn't dropped data once.

Funny, but I have the same issue. My data constantly drop. I notice it more when coming out of standby. Also, when I am on a call, I'm unable to surf or use data--never had that issue before.
I haven't done much looking into the root cause, because I have been to busy tinkering. One idea I had was to swap my SIM for a new one, as I have had this one for quite some time. Just a thought.

On more thing.
I keep my battery profile on battery saver. Maybe that's the issue. I will do more investigating and report back.

Sorry if this is the wrong section.
I've tried hard resetting the phone and I have changed my sim. Im following the motorola support forums and this is a common issue.
I think they are working for a patch.
I just figured that it wouldnt hurt to ask and see if you guys have figured it out and fixed it on your own.

Well, I have the performance mode and my wifi disconnects all the time, even right beside my router. It's definitely a big bug, but it seems not all of us are suffering it.

I do't think that's the issue being discussed here.
WiFi connection and network data connections are not the same and are controlled differently.

I did notice the wifi randomly losing its connection (sometimes really frequently) while using school wifi even though my laptop's wifi was fine at the same time... but I never had a problem on my home wifi (with DD-WRT ). The Atrix wifi drivers must not like certain types of AP's.
P.S. I'm using Nighttime saver.

No issues whatsoever with data for me. Atrix net connectivity is rock solid.

Data Connection keeps turning itself on?

I turn my data connection off through the phone settings but it seems to keep turning itself back on? Has anyone experienced this and/or knows how to sort it out?
Cheers guys
Yes there are many threads about this, check you have no auto connections enabled, like weather, facebook, mail ect, but to be honest, if the data connection is idle, it uses no more power than if it were off, i let mine run all day and i only loose 10% battery, and thats checking email every 2 hours and weather updating every 3.
Leo really is an always on device.
There are reg tweeks and cabs, and progs to help, but i found them all pretty buggy and useless, just leave it on and dont worry.
Now if you can stop the damn wireless disconnecting on sleep im a happy man .
I'll take that advice my good man ;p

You don't want that.. trust me. It brings a whole new meaning to 'battery hog'!
you can also configure another data connection with fake data to prevent it from connecting.
Werid that cus my nokia 5800 stays connected to wireless for 3 days on one charge?
It is strange, but data connection almost constantly on didn't affect my HD2's battery life too badly..in fact it made almost no difference.
maybe because battery life wasn't very good in the first place
Well it should not unless its being used, good advice is drop to GSM only if you dont neet a fast connection, i have my device on GSM always, and use Morits com manager to switch to 3G+ if i need the speed, i have done this with all my phones.
3G is a bit of a power monster, and rather pointless drain unless your using it.
I,m using Nodata program to disable data connections. The draw back is you have to enable them back if you want to use internet. The program is definetly good for roaming if you want to be on a safe side.

Hey thats a handy app thanks
nodata switched my data connection back on while abroad. I just hope not to get a horrific bill now!!!

mines also good too.
Wifi on mine is 100% broken. Trying to turn it on makes the phone freeze and then reboot.
Phone arrived yesterday. Wifi never worked a single time, out of the box. Details / video below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618764
Buyer beware.
Ok thanks guys, it seems only a few are broken, fingers crossed I guess.
Paul has another, much larger post about this up here somewhere that you can probably pitch into.
I read that rebooting 4-5 times worked for someone.

To be fair, I've searched and searched and searched on here, Google's support forums, Google itself, etc, and have not yet found a single other person with broken wifi like on mine.
So I guess I'm 1 in 20,000, sigh.
Either way, I would caution against purchasing the device until the 3G/Edge switching problems have been fixed. I didn't care about those issues, because I thought I'd always be on wifi. Heh, boy was I wrong...
Thanks paul, I do suggest sending it back by the way
No Wifi problems here either WEP or WPA (no 3G/Edge issues either)
WPA works fine here, but doesn't always re-connect automatically after an incoming phone call. Sometimes need to force a re-scan when I'm at the far edges of the range.

Xepria X10: 3G APN not working but showing 3G on the top bar.. suspect juicedefender

Hi
Allow me to vent. I am not a very satisfied customer. I am having a lot of problems with this device. the most irritating being the battery life as well as 3g function. After reading up about the battery life problem I installed juicedefender. Not a bad app for what its worth, only if it worked correctly. Ever since I installed it, it has been causing issues with the APN which is apparently a known problem. The APN does not turn on fully? I have now uninstalled it but its causing intermitent internet connection problems still, cant seem to figure that one out.
Anyways, I can see the 3G and H icons on the top bar showing activity, but nothing seems to work. I can't browse, no other applications really picking up any data at all. I have loads of apps that need to be connected all the time.
Anyone have any ideas on how to deal with these issues? I am really getting annoyed now. I tried out a mate's desire, it seems so much better and faster.
There are lots of other issues I am facing but I wanted to keep this thread focused on the most troubling issue, the 3g connectivity.
Please respond with suggestions.
Re: Xepria X10: 3G APN not working but showing 3G on the top bar..
I would start with a factory reset. Failing that, reflash with SEUS.
Hi -Which network are you on? try deleting the APN and re-setup the internet settings.
reluctant to do a factory reset. Got too much stuff on there. I have switched to 2g and its working so far, but not ideal obviously. I am stuff with 2g and a battery life that doesnt last 7 hours. I am not pleased at all.

Reluctant or not I would do it, looks like juicedefender screwed something up, or you have a hardware issue like a bad antenna. When your phone battery drops below 15% and the phone prompts you click "why?" and let us know what the results are. I have been using my phone all day today for the past 14 hours and have 45% battery left not using any juice defender (which I think messes with Android)
Delete the A P N
Did you try deleting the Apn's and re creating them? it's really easy to do and won't lose any of your other data or config off the phone.

Occasionally I have this same issue. However it only started happening after I debranded my handset and upgraded from 1.4 to 1.6. I have not installed juice defender whilst being on 1.6.
I did have to recreate my APN's but my data connection started working immediately afterwards. I've noticed that it drops every now and again without warning. When the connection has dropped i still have the 3g\H symbol.
I am on o2 in the UK and had the same issue after using juice defender, basically it changes your APN by inserting it's own APN text. Even after uninstalling the app it doesn't delete it's settings.
All you need to do is recreate your APN settings, I am sure you can get them off the T-mobile website.
does anyone got the APN setting for T-Mobile (USA). my phone doesn't show any data signal.
Thanks.

Found your problem.
iead1, if you had read my post correctly, I uninstalled the app as it was causing the issue. The 3G stopped working altogether after the uninstall. Had to delete the APN and recreate it with the same settings. That fixed the problem.
Re: Xepria X10: 3G APN
Had the same problem. Juicedefender edited my apn to juicedefender.live.vodafone.com and because of that no internet access. I just deleted juicedefender and reset my apn to get it working again

[Solved]Wlan problem - loosing connection alot

Anyone else experiencing problems with the Wlan? Everyday I have to shut down Wifi, and start Wifi again to reconnect to my router. This mostly happens after the phone has been unused for a few minutes.
When I start using the phone again, it still says i´m connected, I still have the IP, and the signalbar. But when trying to use the internet there is no connection.
My X10, asus lamborghini, hp laptop and desktop pc works flawlessly, so there cant be anything wrong with the router.
Would like to confirm that this is a general problem, and not just my phone...
I didn't have this problem until I played with the WiFi sleep policy. I switched it from 'Never' to 'Sleep when screen is off' and I then got the problem you described. I have since switched my phone back to 'Never' and the problem has gone away.

Just added a videon on youtube to show how it keeps disconnecting itself, and how I restore connection.

I've got the same problem with my phone, its really annoying
There are three threads and one poll dedicated to Wi-Fi. There was no definitive answer in those threads so I doubt there will be one in this thread. Do a search.
Same problem here, not sure if it's down to running a customer rom, anyone having this problem on stock rom?
Yes I've had this problem and tried to send my phone back over it.
It appears to be a problem with WPA1 - the wifi driver hangs and the phone kills it (from adb logcat).
It happened on my home wifi - I switched it to WPA2 and it went away; however, my employer uses 802.1X and I have to use HSPDA at work as wifi keeps crashing.

Get off your high horses. I found a solution in this 'noob' thread that I did not find in the pages of waffle on the main thread.
It may have cost me £100 but it is a solution which is what some of us pragmatic types want. The rest of the high and mighty around here can cast around for an understanding of the underlying issue but some just want to get things to work and get on with our lives. Both attitudes are valid and one camp should not set themselves as more 'worthy' than the other.
A sense of superiority is seldom founded on anything useful.

Nexus 4: radios behaving badly

The one thing that's keeping me from fully enjoying my new Nexus 4---hassles with radios, both wifi & cellular.
1) On my home wifi network on all devices except the Nexus 4 I see solid, constant download speeds of 25Mbps. My Nexus 4 consistently only gives me 4-6Mbps. If I disconnect/reconnect sometimes I can see speeds slightly higher than that, but only temporarily. This isn't generally a huge deal because 4-6Mbps is fast enough for most things on a phone, it just bugs me that every other device in the house gets 25Mbps.
2) Of bigger annoyance is my cellular data connection, it drops off multiple times per day. The cellular signal strength indicates full bars, along with the 'H' icon indicating I'm connected to T-Mobiles HSPA+ network. Voice still works fine but the data connection is dead--nothing will connect--Speedtest, maps, Google Search, Facebook, etc. This forces me to either turn on/off Airplane mode or reboot the phone completely to regain my cellular data connection. On my previous SGS2 I never experienced this issue. It drives me nuts to not be able to pull up a phone number, directions etc at the times I need it most.
Does anybody have any similar experiences or suggestions on how to remedy these issues?
Edit---FYI I'm fully stock but rooted. 4.2.1 update not yet applied.
1) Check APN settings and make sure your account is properly provisioned by calling T-Mo CSRs. I had a similar issue with my Nexus One back in the day that was fixed with a reboot after they reprovisioned my account.
2) Flash factory image, in case it was a bad flash of the radio. It happens.
3) If 1 & 2 fails, or you don't want to try #2, call the Nexus hotline and get yourself a replacement.

Called TMobile and had them reset my account, I'll keep an eye on it the next couple of days.
Right now I'm downloading a cached Google map via WiFi and it is slooooow.
I also notice on edge the signal is inconsistent.
Hi
The Wi-Fi issue is something happening to others, seems to be a driver bug.

Wifi connectivity is my biggest gripe. I'll step 6 feet away from my router and I lose a bar. A couple rooms away I fluctuate between 1 and 0 bars.

Did you ever find a cure for this? I am having the exact same issues on my O2UK Nexus 4, anytime I want to use the data connection its almost guaranteed not to work and involve reboots, Airplane mode on and off etc
Im having the same issues. My data just drops wifi and cellular. I dont get full signal wifi or cellular. I live in india and flashed the latest .54 which was released in india recently. I managed to at least get cellular data going but my strength still low and data drops still on both wifi and cellular. Its super frustrating. Any ideas?
try reflashing the OS on your phone and try changing the wifi channel on your router.
changing the channel on my wireless router really helped signal to all of my devices. there may be lots of interference on the channel you're on.

I may reflash OS but i just got the phone today so ill slow down a bit. I flashed the radio one would think that would be enough? Anyway I have many other devices on my wifi without an issue and i used wifi analyser and theres no overlap with other routers and i experience this on 2g 3g and wifi so it looks like some modem problem. Unfortunately the phone was bought 3 months ago in the States and im here in india so im kind of stuck
There are known issues with the Nexus 4 wifi speeds slowing for no apparent reason. Also, known issues with the LOS (loss of signal). You can find information and bug reports on both of these issues.

I dad see some threads reporting this issue. Unfortunately i dont see any solutions or resolved threads. Additionally people either have it they dont as i see it i cant see people witching sides. Its just a little frustrating. Any opinions on whether kernel swapping will help?
Did a full flash from scratch. No progress. Also i went to my friends place and signal was perfect for like 4 hrs straight but every other place ive been since has seen choppy signal.

Pretty bad. I ran a test a few weeks ago and I can go up to 450 feet from my router (old Linksys) without a problem, and after that it gets iffy, and finally disconnects at 500 feet. I am seeing an average of 20 Mbps on wifi. Now if I can only get my cellular connection (non-wifi) to go faster than 1 Mpbs max I would have a usable phone.
I have a slightly diff issue.
If I reboot my phone, I connect to my router no problem. If I turn wifi off (to save battery) and then turn it back on.... it shows my AP's as out of range.... but I do see my neighbours AP's. I also have an N10 with has no issues at all with wifi (and none of my other divises have issues either).
When I bought the N4 they seemed to be having an issue with it when setting it up.... but I was not paying close attention. I am wondering if I have a bad phone on top of the "normal" wifi issues that other are experiencing.
Think I will revert back to stock and swap it for another phone to see if I can at least just turn off / on the wifi rather then reboot to connect (how sad is that?)

I picked up a cheap belkin router and set it to AP mode.
My N4 has no issues at all with it. Connects when I want it to right away and is fast / solid connection.
